Loving the Green!

http://www.wibw.com/content/news/Former-Jayhawk-Brannen-Greene-arrested-for-possession-of-marijuana-472939303.html ↗

ormer Kansas basketball player Brannen Greene, 23, was arrested Saturday, Feb. 3, for possession of marijuana in Wabaunsee County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Greene was heading east on I-70 when he was pulled over for speeding at mile marker 322 at 8:50 p.m.

Greene was arrested for speeding, expired registration, driving without a valid license, and distribution of marijuana, according to KHP.

He was taken to the Wabaunsee County Jail.

The 6-foot-7 guard played in 93 games for the Jayhawks from 2013-2016. He averaged 4.6 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game.

Greene last played for Salt Lake City in the NBA G-League. He played five games for the Salt Lake City Stars, averaging 7.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.

His last game with Salt Lake City was in November.

Almost amazing how dumb some guys can be. All the potential to have had a career like James Jones or Mike Miller where he is on an NBA roster just to shoot 3s at the end of quarters or games.

Hint, if you have an expired tag or license, definitely don't speed.

Also, not that the charge is distribution of marijuana. That isn't the same as possession. It is much worse. Distribution is a felony and stays on your record for the rest of your life.

@Kcmatt7

I would assume the distribution charge was due to the amount exceeding what was a misdemeanor vs a felony? I can't imagine that charge actually sticks as a felony but who knows what Green(e) has gotten himself into.

@BeddieKU23

He must have had a bunch of fatties with him. :smiley:

Pretty sad deal

Feb 06, 2018 06:12 PM #7

@BeddieKU23 I'm sure it will get plead down.

Another career up in smoke. Except I hope for his sake, he matures and gets his act together. It always blows me away when someone has the potential to make a lot of money playing a sport and sabotages his chances.

@wissox career in anything!

Feb 07, 2018 12:04 AM #10

Greene hailed from the South. Wonder where he was headed, back in Kansas....

Feb 07, 2018 12:09 AM #11

@REHawk his folks did move, think his mom was a teacher, KC area? I know he has a lil sister, not sure if she would still be in hs.

Feb 07, 2018 12:09 AM #12

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you feel about it, it will probably be pleaded down since pot possession does not seem to be what it once was, several states do not even consider it a crime anymore. He will probably pay a fine for the other violations and will go on some sort of diversion program.

Too bad he appears to be throwing his life away, He could stay in the business, perhaps not as a player but as an instructor; after all, he has one of the best shooting forms I have seen; heck, he could be teaching Doke and Garret how to shoot.

@JayHawkFanToo self would love that!

Feb 07, 2018 12:31 AM #14

@Crimsonorblue22 career in anything!

Yes! He was also accepted at Harvard but ultimately chose KU. So much potential.

Feb 07, 2018 05:22 AM #15

I pray he doesn’t waste the gift of one of the purest shots i’ve ever seen. he could surely
make a few bucks abroad.

A wake up call, I hope.

Probably not though, if we are being brutally honest.

Feb 07, 2018 06:18 AM #18

@BShark do we know why he left the team?

Feb 07, 2018 03:20 PM #19

@Crimsonorblue22 I have lived long enough to be suspicious of coincidences. Bill Self explodes publicly this week, somewhat uncharacteristically; then, SHAZAM!, almost concurrently we read of outlaw Brannen Greene driving across the state of Kansas, breaking a cumulative host of laws, reportedly packing a load of marijuana.
Brannen is one former Jayhawk whom I hope stays clear of Lawrence, at least until he matures into a responsible citizen. I doubt that he and his former college coach parted ways on the best of friendly terms.

Feb 07, 2018 03:30 PM #20

@REHawk I meant salt lake. I know why he left our team.

Feb 07, 2018 03:56 PM #21

Different news outlets are reporting the charge differently. Some are reporting as possession, others as distribution. No report has come out stating how much he had on him. The amount makes a difference here, as the charge can differ based on that. My guess is Brannen stopped in Colorado, picked something up and was driving back to the KC area. Foolish to bring something back, as I have told many people - even though its legal to buy in Colorado, if you are stopped in Kansas, you will get in legal trouble.

BG did not learn from Snacks.

Or Wayne Simeon.

Or Norm.

Or Kurtis.

Or Bill.

Lots of roll models.

No learning.

Snacks modeled how to recover and save yourself.

Huna is a problem.

I hope society is ready for more of the good pot will do.

@BShark I read that too! Nobody could stop him? Wonder what was stopping him after he left? Can’t blame that one on coach.

Man he sure had a sweet stroke. But..... he was trouble from day 1 I believe.
