Pat Forde beating his gums ia an article saying that: Four programs that could have openings depending how much blowback results from the ongoing Federal investigation of College Basketball and potential NCAA issues; The 4 are : Auburn - -USC - - Arizona - & KU Forde lists.

His reasoning for KU he says: Because of star recruit Billy Preston ineligibility has yet to be addressed.

Then he talks about the 2015 ineligibility of Freshman Cliff Alexander late in the season for dealings with a financial company.

Then the smoke that surrounded KU last year with Bragg & Jackson both being suspended.

Then and the fact several other Adidas backed programs were caught up in the feds dragnet. - -

Forde then saying Coach Self Teflon status may get a bit sticky as things progress.

Pat Forde is a Missouri grad that cannot help himself. Not that long ago there had a poll among sports writers about the best college basketball venue and AFH was in the top 3 of every single voter...except Forde who did not even had AFH in his top 10. This is not being a homer or biased or even childish, it is just being plain stupid.

Addressing the issues you said Forde raised...Preston did no play a single NCAA sanctioned game, how dis this help KU? Alexander was sat down as soon as information came out and costed KU plenty by being short handed in post season. Jackson and Bragg had no eligibility issues, the suspensions were due to team rules violations. His attempt to impugn KU is just comical and laughable.

Forde's Missouri bias is showing. He should be worried Cuonzo Martin and how he landed Porter.

Oh Forde is probably reminiscing about Billy's playing time in the KU/MU exhibition game and hoping that is enough to get us in trouble...

Right because Self has sat guys that are in question while everyone else just plays them, means he’s guilty, makes sense. How guys like Forde and Gotieb have jobs is baffling, don’t know a guy thats a fan of ether.

I said it when the investigation became public. Who is the most pristine? Self and K. Who better for a grandstanding prosecutor who is looking for the limelight to target? Or to try to pressure someone to implicate? That’s my bigger worry.

@kjayhawks Gotlieb and Petro's 810 sessions are some of my favorite.

And I mean that seriously. Gotlieb at least isn't afraid to say something unpopular. He may have an inflated ego, but he isn't afraid to say things KU fans don't want to here. And never are they as outlandish as this stupid article... I at least have SOME respect for Gotlieb. He is at least somewhat credible in my eyes.

@HighEliteMajor I have no doubt that an Adidas rep or agent tied in with the program paid a player to come to KU. No doubt whatsoever.

I do not think that Self was ever implicit however.

I also mentioned when this first came up, a couple of things.

First, Townsend has been the guy recruiting pretty much any questionable player. Either Self trusts him enough to recruit sketchy guys without taking a stupid bribe or Self and Towns have an agreed upon deal that Towns will be Self's fall guy. I feel pretty good about it being the first. Self even self-reports little infractions like accidentally talking to a player after a game. He has sat so many questionable players that would have been major helps, I just couldn't see it.

Second, KU was in fact recruiting multiple players mentioned in the report. As well as a few others that are speculated as being paid. KU never landed a single one of those guys. At least not in the current scope of the investigation, or what I believe is the statute of limitations for a case like this.

Third, The flagship Adidas basketball school, who spends the most money on recruiting and a fortune on Dorms would likely outbit anyone for a player if they wanted to. Not to mention, KU has boosters that they could EASILY contact under the radar to pay players. No need to go through Adidas to do it. So, no, I do not think KU had Adidas pay players. I would not be surprised to see another way in which KU found a legal workaround to pay players. Much like Self's camps. But it just wouldn't make sense to me to pay players to come here when you don't need to in order to field a competitive team.

NCAA violations and the FBI investigation are two completely separate things.

Even if Self is completely clean, if an assistant or someone within the program did something illegal within the FBI investigation, that will hurt KU. It may not get Self fired, but it could change his reputation. I am not saying that Self did anything wrong, just looking at it from the other side.

Art Briles had a good reputation, right up until the accusations started at Baylor. He probably couldn't get another college HC job anywhere.

Joe Paterno had a good reputation, right up until the accusations started at Penn State.

Your reputation is only as good as the worst thing people know about you. Right now, there's nothing negative out there about HCBS. If that were to change, his reputation would change, too. Again, I'm not saying there is anything, just adding a little perspective.

There was a lot of money involved in this FBI investigation. There will be people that go to prison. We already know Adidas was involved and that KU is the prime Adidas school. While that doesn't mean that KU got caught up in any of this, there are certainly things that are in KU's neighborhood that would cause me concern if I were the compliance officer at KU.

@justanotherfan Do you think someone will go to prison? I'm not so sure right now under the current charges. Allegedly defrauding a university of the possible benefit of a player, done by a third party business, who is in competition with other third party businesses, by paying that player, all of which could result in a NCAA rules violation, which could result in a loss of eligibility. Ah, to be a prosecutor and to be largely unaccountable.

Let's say that money was illegally transferred. Let's say they hid the source of that money (so it wasn't easy to tie back to Adidas) or attempted to hide the recipients. Let's say they did not fill out the proper forms when taking out large sums of cash.

That could be the beginnings of bank (or wire) fraud, money laundering, etc.

There could be bribery charges in there (since many of these are public universities, the coaches are considered public officials in some states). Bribing a public official is a crime.

The eligibility stuff is irrelevant to the FBI. It's all of the other stuff that could send people to prison.

So as KU goes, a poster on the Phog that knows some guys around the program and has had good info before posted this and I feel it is worth sharing here for people that don't go there.

Didn’t see the fbi thread but figured I’d post in case there’s a little concern. Fwiw:
Buddy of mine played for Self in the last 5 years and was heavily recruited nationally. Had dinner with him last night, the Louisville stuff was on TV so I asked if we had anything to worry about. Pretty much word for word: “with the coaches? Fu-uck no. It’s all good with the coaches. No idea about players and what they may be up to, but the programs clean.”
I asked about a certain Asst coach and he said “oh no. Self is serious about that shit and none of them would go rogue. Especially him. He’d be gone so fast and he knows it (alluding to any minor violation).”

Take it how you want to. For me, the overall mindset the staff works with is a positive right now, plus I’ve been told this before by another. Also, he’s told some less than positive things about the program in the past that he knows I’d never repeat, so he’d definitely at least allude to it If stressful times might be on the horizon.
