Some good matchups here. Nevada playing great D early, but so is Loyola all of a sudden.

Caroline on Nevada averaging 17 a game illustrates Illinois' failures. His Grandpa was a CFHOF running back at U of I, his dad Simeon Rice a superstar defenseman at the U of I. The kid played hs ball in Champaign, went to Monteverde Academy with Ben Simmons for a year, and wasn't recruited by John Groce. Unbelievable.

Loyola looks like they want it more at the end of the half. We shall see what the second half brings. But - while it doesn’t have the look or feel of a Sweet 16 game, it is...

Nevada looks more desperate than the other times they were down in the tourney. Loyola D is just too good.

I will say that they eye test tells me the Nevada brothers are NBA talents. Not sure what scouts are saying about them. But athletically, they look like pros.

@Kcmatt7 Northwestern as you probably know can't recruit a lot of kids because of academics, at least that's what I've always thought. Depaul lost in recruiting when Ray Meyers son Joey ticked off an influential HS coach who then prevented public league kids from going there.

Illinois is a mystery kind of. When Self left, UIC's coach wanted the job, he was African American and claimed race was a factor in him not being hired. He had been a U of I assistant and thus influenced a lot of city kids from going to U of I. Weber struggled to get the gold mine of later 2000's kids like Rose, Collins (thankfully for us!) Davis, Okafor, Parker, etc. etc.

@wissox Well somehow Duke and other very good academic schools find a way to get around that... If there is a will there is a way.

I think whoever wins the UK vs. KSU game is going to be FF bound... Crazy Loyola has been able to be so damn clutch.

This is what makes this tournament so great!

Loyola used the entire clock in just about every possession and most of the baskets were layups. Very disciplined system team. Impressive win.

I looked up Custer, and found this:

@Kcmatt7 Great start for KSU but now it looks like they’ll go on their text book 8 minute scoring drought. I feel if that happens they could be in trouble, they simply don’t have the fire power to come back most the time (they did against us in the B12 semis but then followed it with another drought).

Early in the season UNC beats Michigan 86-71.

Last Sunday A & M beats UNC by 21.

Tonight Michigan Beats A & M by 22.

That's a 58 point improvement.

Article in the Chicago Tribune about Weber today. Gives you a good perspective on the much maligned (at least on these pages) coach. He's one of 10 coaches to take 3 different teams to the Sweet 16. He's taken KState to 4 NCAA tournaments. When he was a young up and comer in Wisconsin he was invited by Gene Keady to come to W. Kentucky for an interview. Bruce drove all the way there, about 9 hours, and Keady had forgot! In fact he was out of the country. When he returned Weber called him and Keady hired him over the phone, and a 21 year coaching relationship had begun. Gave me some appreciation for Bruce. Maybe not as bad as we'd thought!

Ksu just needs to jack threes and hope U.K. keeps shooting 5%

@wissox I actually think Bruce gets too much slack, but most of it he brings upon himself with stupid quotes. He is a good coach. But he has an ego complex and needs people to know it and that just rubs people the wrong way.

@wissox I don't mind Weber. Gives it everything he has, which is a bit limited. Probably inspires mediocre players to play above their talent too.

One thing I don't like is our nickname for him.

Refs keeping Kentucky in this

Hope KState can survive all these fouls.

Weber has proven he can coach talent but has lacked massively in developing it. This years team is the exception not the rule, He will have no excuses not to win the conference next year, they return every single player that plays on this.

I hate that the "best refs" grade wise are typically the refs that call the most fouls.

Refs shut this game down when ksu was up 13-1 and uk couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Carrying the ball call on brown, then every possible foul, making it a free throw contest ( which ksu failed)

@wissox I do. And definitely not two Kansas teams. And they do not want Loyola to win another game. This is basically the perfect distance for a Cinderella as far as ratings. Basically if it isn't Blue Bloods or upper echelon teams in the FF, ratings drop significantly.

To be honest I really don’t know who to root for at times. I definitely don’t want see Cal to get another FF or NC but I feel the winner of this one sleep walks to the NC. In terms of KSU if by some grace of God himself they make the FF or win the darn thing that all we will hear about for the rest of all of our lifetimes.

@JayHawkFanToo Michigan played amazing. Should come back down to Earth Saturday. But I also think it was a mix of them playing great and us seeing the TAMU that we saw all season long. Good enough to beat anyone, bad enough to get curb stomped by anyone.

I hope all these B12 teams play with the same fervor they played against us. If they do, as ksu has proven, the B12 can show up. We can prove once and for all the B12 is the better conference top to bottom.

I cheer for KSU just because they are underdogs and haven't had much tourney success since we beat them in Detroit in 1988. When they cheer against us, it is a reflection of how comparatively overwhelmingly sucessful we have been.

On the other hand, I am pretty sure they would not cheer for us if the positions were reversed -- if we had a surprise bowl appearance in fb, they would boo us. So maybe they really are jerks.

Dang, this is a great year for the B12. There is something about this season as a conference that gives me both Jayhawk and conference pride. It's the one year KU was totally tested under adverse circumstances. This conference win and tourney win was very special, not because of #14, but this team has developed such a chemistry and have played as one. They've really made this a special year.

Sorry azz losers. I don't like ksu either, but for different reasons. They are actually ONE of the better teams they've played. Their fan base is the dumbest ever.

They need to be reminded that two B12 teams beat them this year.

Epic game chat fellows! I feel like I lived that K-St UK game.

Best thing I’ve ever heard come out of coach Ks mouth, (I’m paraphrasing as I heard it 24 hours ago and don’t really like the man enough to look it up.) The game against Syracuse is the national championship. Don’t worry about anyone else’s path. Just concentrate on the one game in front of you. Each game is the Chanpionship game and the only game that matters.

Kentucky fans are actually blaming the refs for the reason they lost. It doesn't take a genius to know they shot 15 more FT's then K-St.

How about having the coach pull the brick artist? Oh, because he was the only aggressive player. UK was deeply flawed and seemingly lacked effort late. The try hard award goes to Brucey’s boys.

I read a few of the threads on the UK forum and sounds like the vast majority of posters/fans are tired of the OADs and Cal’s system that benefits a few players and makes Cal look good on draft night but the fans get screwed in the process. I can understand their frustration.
