Texas Tech vs Villanova
Mar 25, 2018 06:45 PM #1

Zaire Smith back in game with 2 fouls and 10 min left to go first half. 20-6 run by Villanova. TT missing all their 3s right now.

This is brand new territory for this team. Beard is a great coach and NO disrespect, but the atmosphere alone can defeat you. This is why experience is huge. I heard some lame analyst/host say he'll take talent over experience every time. I have one team to address his plan: UK...haha...all the talent in the world got beat. This is the dumbest statement, because every team will have talent. I've never seen a team go to the tourney without talent, S16, E8, F4 or NC without talent. You need experienced players with talent. Idiot...where do they find these so-called experts.

I feel like Nova is getting every call money can buy at this point.

Mar 25, 2018 07:08 PM #4

TT is not the same team. Beating themselves

Standard.

5 against 8. Tech not doing too bad. I think I'll watch the weather channel til 4.

Expect KU to being play 5 on 8 as well...

Mar 25, 2018 07:16 PM #8

This looks like a game between a team that's been there, done that, and a team that's in new territory. I figured it would happen to Tech before the Elite 8 such.

Mar 25, 2018 07:29 PM #9

Tech led 9-1 and there were 3 fouls against Nova. Ever since then, the foul count has been 12-4 and of course Tech's lead disappeared in a hurry. There are a lot more TV watching eyeballs in Philadelphia than Lubbock Texas is the lesson learned here. We have a lot more pull nationally than TTech so I think they'll get a fairer shake than Tech is getting.

Mar 25, 2018 07:31 PM #10

@wissox I honestly wonder if that doesn’t make a difference sometimes but heck UK and UNC are already out and they have some big followings.

wissox l hope you're right. But eyeball count didn't seem to have much influence in the '86 Duke game.

Mar 25, 2018 07:40 PM #12

@Gunman I think you misunderstood me. Sure, KU doesn't get a lot of eyeballs locally, but being a blueblood people do watch KU play and they do receive better officiated games than others. We've beaten Duke the last two or three times we've played them in the tourney which means we either overcame east coast biased refs or there wasn't any.

Mar 25, 2018 07:46 PM #13

@kjayhawks I think the refs did a lot to ensure Kentucky stayed in that game against KState!

Mar 25, 2018 07:46 PM #14

Evans has got to start hitting, 1/8

Mar 25, 2018 07:58 PM #15

Tech had missed so many bunnies, I think about 5 layups the last few minutes and may have blew there chance to comeback.

Mar 25, 2018 08:04 PM #16

@wissox Why watch if you believe it is fixed? I watched that same sequence and saw T Tech stop playing the way they started. They began making stupid fouls, dribbling blindly, and shooting bad shots. But my eyeballs must have relocated to Philly.

Mar 25, 2018 08:09 PM #17

Down to 5

Mar 25, 2018 08:11 PM #18

He was fouled

Mar 25, 2018 08:12 PM #19

Paschall fouling inside everytime.

Mar 25, 2018 08:14 PM #20

TT gotta hit FTs

Mar 25, 2018 08:15 PM #21

haha...touch Brunson and it's a foul

Mar 25, 2018 08:16 PM #22

Vincenza hanging all over the rim unnecessarily...should be a T

Mar 25, 2018 08:16 PM #23

If Tech could rebound the ball they’d be up bye atleast 5

If they block out Nova climbing backs

Lots of over the backs not being called. TT seems to have forgotten how to box out. So many O rebs for V.

Mar 25, 2018 08:18 PM #26

...down by 5, not bad

Mar 25, 2018 08:19 PM #27

fortunately nova missing FTs too

Mar 25, 2018 08:20 PM #28

6 offensive rebs by Paschall. I have thought a lot of his rebounds were highly offensive!

Mar 25, 2018 08:20 PM #29

Phantom foul.

Mar 25, 2018 08:21 PM #30

Wow they just gave the ball to nova when they didn't even have possession to call it out on one or the other

Mar 25, 2018 08:21 PM #31

No foul call

Mar 25, 2018 08:22 PM #34

Moretti Player One?

Mar 25, 2018 08:22 PM #35

We all know B12 screwed if they don't bring it

Mar 25, 2018 08:23 PM #36

Even if they called it a jump ball it would have been nova ball on change of possession. It just looked like a bad call

Mar 25, 2018 08:23 PM #37

So who called the timeout?

Mar 25, 2018 08:23 PM #38

Thought coaches couldn't call live ball time outs

Mar 25, 2018 08:23 PM #39

He put the ball on the ground picked it up and dribbled. Isn't that a double dribble?

Mar 25, 2018 08:24 PM #40

approxinfinity said:

Not with nova

Mar 25, 2018 08:25 PM #41

Lol if this is the refs we have to look forward to

Mar 25, 2018 08:26 PM #42

What's the chances doke has 2 before the under 16

Mar 25, 2018 08:27 PM #43

@BeddieKU23 Little because he’ll be on the bench with the first lol

Mar 25, 2018 08:28 PM #44

@BeddieKU23 As long as the first one is from him breaking Bagley in two, and the second one puts Carter in a sling, we’ll be okay.

Mar 25, 2018 08:28 PM #45

kjayhawks said:

I'd hope they play it smart. Doke needs to play the best game of his life

Mar 25, 2018 08:29 PM #46

The refs have really done a number on the Big 12 teams.

Mar 25, 2018 08:30 PM #47

It's just the lack of consistency that kills me.

Nova is the better team but has been bailed out badly

Mar 25, 2018 08:30 PM #48

@BeddieKU23 Smart money says will need Mitch and or Silvio to be good if not great aswell

Mar 25, 2018 08:35 PM #49

Not a horribly reffed game. Techs problem was that they couldn’t score at all inside. Nova forced them to shoot jumpers and they couldn’t hit them.

Mar 25, 2018 08:35 PM #50

kjayhawks said:

Silvio will be important, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mitch as ineffective as he was yesterday. He can't match up with Bagley

Mar 25, 2018 08:36 PM #51

Think we'll play some zone?

Mar 25, 2018 08:36 PM #52

@Crimsonorblue22 yep!

Mar 25, 2018 08:38 PM #53

I don't see how we zone without being forced into it by fouls

Kcmatt7 said:

Inconsistent it was, but tech didn't make enough plays or rebound enough. Usually how we lose..

Mar 25, 2018 08:39 PM #55

@mayjay You caught me! I was in a restaurant with my folks, a rare treat, and two of my kids plus a brother, so the TV in the corner gave me no perspective on what was actually happening. I just saw the foul count suddenly change with the score. That's the only part of the game I saw. BTW, others apparently were watching on this thread and didn't like the officiating either.

I will watch because as I acknowledged KU has received fairer treatment from officials against Duke, 1986 and the end of Maui notwithstanding!

Mar 25, 2018 08:43 PM #56

@wissox I didn't like the officiating much, especially with the amount of inside contact allowed. But TT played worse than the refs reffed. I just think if there was a change in how the fouls were going that the refs really don't give a crap about TBS's ratings in the F4! And if I thought the reffing was the result of manipulation I never would watch.

Mar 25, 2018 08:47 PM #57

@Kcmatt7 How many times did a TT guy turn down an open 3 receiving a pass, and then dribble up and shoot a contested 2 with no one even trying to get the rebound? Even those shots with 1 minute left, no one but no one was crashing the boards. They looked like a freshman team in the first scrimmage.

Mar 25, 2018 08:48 PM #58

@BeddieKU23 I don't either- -the real thing that scares me the most is the match ups on their 2 big's -we play Doke on Carter just pray he doesn't get in quick foul trouble - -do we play the 2 big's at times? -Doke & De-Sousa?

Mar 25, 2018 08:48 PM #59

I wonder what is the line in foul differential for the KU - Duke game...I will guess 8?

Mar 25, 2018 08:49 PM #60

@JayHawkFanToo looking at 10-12 - - I mean ya know - -any 50/50 calls their gonna get

Na we are just going to let someone in the post get theirs and pray we limit everyone else

Mar 25, 2018 08:51 PM #62

@mayjay TTU looked awful offensively. Didn’t looked fired up at all outside the first 1:30 of the game. Played way too slow. I was disappointed tbh

Stage was too big. Looked like us against oregon

Mar 25, 2018 08:51 PM #64

@BeddieKU23 I'm down to see some junk defenses in this game. Throw the kitchen sink at Duke.

Mar 25, 2018 08:52 PM #65

@BShark

I'd be down for a triangle and 1. I'm not a fan of doubling because carter and Bagley are great passers. We usually double when we know someone has an advantage

Mar 25, 2018 08:53 PM #66

Graham has to shoot well and doke has to control the paint with boards

Mar 25, 2018 08:55 PM #67

@Buster-1926

I'd really like to see us man up Bagley with zone principles.. I think that's a match up we know we are vulnerable with but can make it difficult for him. He scores almost exclusively in the paint

Mar 25, 2018 08:56 PM #68

@BeddieKU23 if Duval is in, whoever is guarding him should come off of him to double down. At least that’s what I would do.

Mar 25, 2018 08:57 PM #69

@Kcmatt7

Good point. You have to guard him tho he turns it over a lot and is their best passer so despite his shooting woes you don't want to make life easy on him.

I think if doke can stay on the floor and Devonte controls the tempo we have every adavtange

Kcmatt7 said:

Dude absolutely can't shoot. Still you don't want to leave him completely wide open.

Mar 25, 2018 08:59 PM #71

Can't leave trent open and can't bite on Allen's pump fakes. Otherwise we should be able to turn them over

Trent and O'Connell are the guys that can easily get hot and beat us. It would be typical if it was O'Connell since he is like a 10mpg guy...

Mar 25, 2018 09:00 PM #73

@BShark

I think Carter is a better defender than Bagley but not nearly as good on offense.

Depends on the officials...Hopefully they are neither B12 or ACC
