Does anyone care to predict the CMU game?
Sep 08, 2018 01:33 AM #1

I’m picking a surprise upset by Kansas 27-21, sadly we are dogs a team that is probably gonna finish in the bottom half of the MAC. I think all the whispers about Beaty and the disappointment from last week fires up the team just enough to escape with the first road win since 09 (46 games). CMU has a similar style to Nichols, which could benefit the defense seeing it again. The key remains upfront for the offense and if the line can show improvement, which is possible after the first game for a group that was thrown together a few weeks ago. CMU let up 35 points at Kensucky last week and that may not seem like a ton but it is if you consider that Uk had 4 turnovers. I look for a big day from Steven Sims to redeem himself from a lackluster performance.

Sep 08, 2018 01:42 AM #2

@kjayhawks I am guessing a 3 TD victory margin for KU, shocking the nation and catapaulting KU to an actual road game victory (first this decade!!!) and maybe more in later weeks.

Sep 08, 2018 02:52 AM #3

One stat to look at for this game is that UK ran for 300 yards and 7.0 yard per carry. Beaty talked about running the ball more and both RBs averaged over 5 yards per carry against Nichols, I personally thought we abandoned the run game too quick last week. Run block is easier than pass block for the offensive line, I’d give it to Herbert early and often. Still no word on pooka, my sources say it’s a eligibility issue with school so he may never play a down for us.

Sep 08, 2018 03:02 AM #4

It figures when we get a higher ranked player - -here comes eligibility this is how things go for a really struggling program. The kid sticks with his commitment and then more then likely ineligible - I know it hasn't been said yet but I too think that is probably the case.

I predicted a KU win last week so really hesitant this week especially after a CMU loss to Kentucky. - They give up 300 yds rushing to Kentucky which means we get maybe 200 - -because of our line. - Bottom line is our O-Line just has to get it together or it will be a long - - long - - long season.

Having said that I guess I'll say 21-20 KU

Sep 08, 2018 02:17 PM #5

Unless the OLine makes a drastic improvement from last week, the streak is going to 47. Maybe I need to re-enroll at KU since the 2009 football season was my senior year there.

Sep 08, 2018 02:37 PM #6

@Texas-Hawk-10

I agree. How well the OL plays will dictate how the game develops.

Sep 08, 2018 04:22 PM #7

The line opened up making us 7 point road dogs, and it has since dropped to 3 1/2. I think we lose by 20.

Drastically is 100 % right. - these guys have JUST GOT to be beter

Sep 08, 2018 05:47 PM #9

I would really like the team to surprise me but, if it cannot beat Nicholls State at home, chances are it will not beat CMU on the road. I am afraid the streak will get one game longer. A marked OL improvement and the game is a toss up, if the same OL shows up then it is a 2 TD loss.

Sep 08, 2018 06:02 PM #10

@Texas-Hawk-10 that’s a crazy idea, but it just may work! Lol

Sep 08, 2018 06:49 PM #11

Vegas sharps have flooded bets on KU. But I put money on CMU. I would have laid points if I could have honestly. I expect a 10+ point loss.

This is some weird shit. I'd be all over CMU at -3.5

Sep 08, 2018 06:50 PM #13

@BShark Lol I thought the same thing. I really did put some money on CMU. It'll at least make me watch some of the game this way haha.

Sep 08, 2018 06:52 PM #14

@Kcmatt7 I didn't notice the dip in time or I likely would have put most of my winnings from betting on Nicholls last week on CMU. Wasn't going to touch it near a TD.

Sep 08, 2018 06:55 PM #15

@BShark I got in at -3.

My buddy who lives in NYC texted me last week: "New college football season means betting against Kansas pays for my rent."

He ain't wrong lol.

Sep 08, 2018 07:04 PM #16

Pooka Williams with the start and the carry on the first play.

Sep 08, 2018 07:15 PM #17

What channel is it on?

Sep 08, 2018 07:21 PM #18

@Kcmatt7 No broadcast coverage; only on ESPN+. I'm going old school and listening to the radio.

Sep 08, 2018 07:24 PM #19

@stoptheflop Well we'd appreciate any big updates. I'm going to watch that Nebraska v Colorado game after Houston hopefully closes out this Arizona game.

Sep 08, 2018 07:27 PM #20

Neither team has been able to gain a second first down. Each team has two punts. KU is on offense at our 47; 3rd and short

Sep 08, 2018 07:35 PM #21

OLine still sucks bad, CMU will eventually win this one. Nicholls is better than CMU though, so if KU can protect the ball, they might have a chance to steal this game.

Sep 08, 2018 07:36 PM #22

End of Q1. No score. Another exchange of punts. KU will start Q2 with the ball on our 20. Our defense has been able to stop C Mich. But, our offense continues to struggle from penalties and poor O line play.

Sep 08, 2018 07:43 PM #23

Espn plus stream is crap. Jerky to the point of unwatchable.

Sep 08, 2018 07:46 PM #24

Defense has played well but they can't hold CMU scoreless all day. Offense would be in better had penalties not halted drives

Sep 08, 2018 07:46 PM #25

Sep 08, 2018 07:48 PM #26

Bender start?

Sep 08, 2018 07:49 PM #27

I guess he did. Need to just play Kendrick and commit to the run like they said they would.

Sep 08, 2018 07:51 PM #28

Should've gone for it there, not much to lose at this point.

Sep 08, 2018 07:53 PM #29

Watching the KSU MSU game today, I really think we just need to find a giant athlete to put at QB and run him 20 times. Fitzgerald dominated that game on the ground. Has to be a few guys out there who can't throw at a D1 level but tackling them is like trying to tackle a brick wall.

Sort of related note, when the Royals give up on Bubba, I'd offer him a scholarship in a heart beat.

Sep 08, 2018 07:53 PM #30

Bender did start. Looks bad

Sep 08, 2018 07:54 PM #31

@Kcmatt7 Starling committed to Nebraska out of high school

Sep 08, 2018 07:55 PM #32

Good field position after a penalty on punt return. See what happens

Sep 08, 2018 07:56 PM #33

Gain 7-8 yards and Rui should be able to put KU up 3-0. That's the one aspect of this team I actually feel confident in. Rui is a very reliable kicker with good range.

Sep 08, 2018 07:56 PM #34

Nine punts so far!

Sep 08, 2018 07:59 PM #38

Blown coverage on that TD

Sep 08, 2018 08:00 PM #39

Both of these teams are rancid but CMU might be worse which is saying something. I remember seeing that CMU has a few players out this first half because of ejections last week.

Sep 08, 2018 08:04 PM #40

The defense is stopping C Mich. C Mich only has about 50 yds total offense. KU ball on its 24.

Sep 08, 2018 08:04 PM #41

I guess Chanel 38 in KC broadcasts only the home games? Not getting ESPN+, might get the trial 7 day during the basketball season if there is a preseason game not carried on Chanel 38. Following the game on ESPN gamecast.

Sep 08, 2018 08:05 PM #42

Only the first game was a Jayhawk TV game. They only get the 1 football game.

More details here: https://kuathletics.com/sports/2017/11/15/jayhawk-television-network.aspx ↗

All other games should be part of the Big 12 deal and I bet ESPN relegates most they have to their ESPN+ service.

Late Night is actually included in this as well which is really cool.

I think overall ESPN+ is worth it but not for just KU football games.

Sep 08, 2018 08:08 PM #45

@DanR Kinda strange: Bender leads KU to a touchdown, then the next series, Beaty puts Kendrick in. But, we are moving the ball.

Sep 08, 2018 08:12 PM #46

@Kcmatt7 yes

Sep 08, 2018 08:12 PM #47

Colorado's QB is a future NFL QB imo.

Sep 08, 2018 08:14 PM #48

@BShark Because this game is at CMU, the broadcast of this game is based on the MAC TV deal, not the B12 deal.

Sep 08, 2018 08:14 PM #49

And Nebraska's may be a future Heisman. True freshman. Crazy talented. Nebraska will be a powerhouse again in no time.

Sep 08, 2018 08:16 PM #50

Lot of strategy about a punt

Sep 08, 2018 08:17 PM #51

@BShark

Looks like all the basketball games and Late Night will be on on KMCI 38 while Spectrum does replays...

I think it's only a matter of time before Kendrick is our QB. Bender has done good today of taking what us given and not forcing but kendrick can throw it well on the run.

Sep 08, 2018 08:20 PM #53

@kjayhawks It'll depend on turnovers. Bender has done a good job of not turning the ball over so far and if he protects the ball like that the rest of the year, that'll help KU out more.

Sep 08, 2018 08:20 PM #54

Tua is the Heisman this year. And Bama won't have anyone come within 21 points of them.

Sep 08, 2018 08:22 PM #55

Sep 08, 2018 08:26 PM #56

How about yhe defense, anyone remember the last time we held an FBS scoreless for a half. Hopefully the offense can get going because I doubt it lasts. I feel like they were a few penalties from having another score.

Sep 08, 2018 08:26 PM #57

@kjayhawks This just might be our only legit chance of a Win for the year. - Certainly a game of bad versus even worse.. - I wish I could get excited about the Defense today - -and today I can , then I come back to reality and realize to this point anyways the team we are playing has a lot to do with it. - CMU is bad - -really bad.

But I'm going to try and not be the Debbie Downer , let's hope we can hang on this 2nd half and break this streak. - no wins on the road since 09. -I looked at Bender a lot of completions but very little yardage EXECPT for one - -I was gonna blame Bender but it's the dam play calling - little flares and crap - you got to look vertical. - - Well 7-0 at half so yay. - -CMU only 1 first down keep it going guys.

Sep 08, 2018 08:28 PM #58

@kjayhawks This isn't good defense, it's bad offense on both sides.

Sep 08, 2018 08:28 PM #59

Mississippi State spanks KSU 31-10, Oklahoma destroying UCLA 49 21

Sep 08, 2018 08:29 PM #60

@Texas-Hawk-10 I dont disagree but I'm surprised nonetheless

Sep 08, 2018 08:31 PM #61

@JayHawkFanToo did you see the KSU fumble that they ruled an incomplete pass? It was a terrible call and made me pissed about last weeks for KU.

Sep 08, 2018 08:39 PM #62

Still halftime. KU had 30 yards of penalties and 151 of total offense. Our offense is so challenged, that we can't afford any penalties.

Sep 08, 2018 08:39 PM #63

Should be a fumble

Sep 08, 2018 08:39 PM #64

well seeing as how I haven't subscribed yet to plus - have no idea what's happening as they lost the feed on the radio

Sep 08, 2018 08:40 PM #65

@jayballer73 CMU receiver fumbled the ball away on the first play of the second half.

Sep 08, 2018 08:40 PM #66

@Texas-Hawk-10 we recover?

Sep 08, 2018 08:43 PM #67

Yes, KU recovered at the CMU 24 and will settle for a FG and Rui pushed it wide left so it's still 7-0. It's really windy, but that's one Rui should've made.

Sep 08, 2018 08:43 PM #68

Missed a golden opportunity to take control there smh

Sep 08, 2018 08:46 PM #69

CMU is trying to get blown out today.

Sep 08, 2018 08:47 PM #70

CMU would down at least 30 points against a good team today.

Sep 08, 2018 08:48 PM #72

@Texas-Hawk-10 Should Lassiter be fielding all these punts? Gosh, it seems like the ball just rolls and rolls.

Sep 08, 2018 08:48 PM #73

@Texas-Hawk-10 with out a few drops and silly penalties we would be up 17 right now offense has to get moving and put doubt on CMU.

Sep 08, 2018 08:50 PM #74

@stoptheflop I'm fine with what he's doing. Most are pretty short punts that would be hard to field so him letting them bounce is the right call.

Sep 08, 2018 08:54 PM #75

Touchdown Pooka Williams.

Sep 08, 2018 08:54 PM #76

That was a good play. OLine looked good and Pooka made a couple of people miss.

Sep 08, 2018 08:55 PM #77

A road win cookin up? Almost unbelievable.

Sep 08, 2018 08:55 PM #78

14-0 with 20 minutes to play.

Sep 08, 2018 08:56 PM #79

Pooka is really, we haven't had a guy that shifty and speedy since Jake Sharp.

Sep 08, 2018 08:58 PM #80

Rutgers hasn't done anything against OSU today. That game looks winnable for KU right now too.

Sep 08, 2018 09:00 PM #81

UNC looks like a team that might struggle to even win a game this season.

Sep 08, 2018 09:02 PM #82

Touchdown Pooka Williams.

Sep 08, 2018 09:03 PM #83

Joe Dineen should be an All-American this year. He could also end up being the B12 DPOY.

Sep 08, 2018 09:03 PM #84

Pooka looks legit

Sep 08, 2018 09:03 PM #85

Pooka is going to be a stud.

Sep 08, 2018 09:03 PM #86

Pooka would've helped last week no question

Sep 08, 2018 09:05 PM #87

@kjayhawks KU probably wins with Pooka last week.

Sep 08, 2018 09:06 PM #88

Couldn't have scripted a better start this half outside of the Rui FG miss.

Sep 08, 2018 09:13 PM #89

That was the defense I expected @Texas-Hawk-10 little resistance there. We had best not blow a 21 point lead here.

Sep 08, 2018 09:21 PM #90

Disagree with this punt, should've gone for it.

Sep 08, 2018 09:21 PM #91

C Mich all of a sudden is moving the ball.

Sep 08, 2018 09:26 PM #92

@stoptheflop our pass D is not good, B12 teams will eat it alive.

Sep 08, 2018 09:29 PM #93

And the pass D makes up for with a great pick 6

Sep 08, 2018 09:30 PM #94

WTH are they reviewing?

Sep 08, 2018 09:34 PM #95

Those stands are emptier than KU's stadium now.

Sep 08, 2018 09:34 PM #96

Who's ready to call this a W?

Sep 08, 2018 09:35 PM #97

Does CMU fire their coach? It's happened the last two times KU has beaten an FBS team, lol!

Sep 08, 2018 09:42 PM #98

@stoptheflop if we score here it's done or hold ball for 5 or 6 minutes.

Sep 08, 2018 09:47 PM #99

Rutgers is really bad too. That game suddenly looks very winnable for KU and that KU will probably be favored in that one.

Sep 08, 2018 09:48 PM #100

Rutgers only has 83 yards of offense about halfway through the third quarter. I know OSU is really good, but that's still really bad by Rutgers.

Sep 08, 2018 09:50 PM #101

@Texas-Hawk-10 that almost like us vs TCU last year.

Sep 08, 2018 09:54 PM #102

What happens if Beaty wins against Rutgers and then wins a B12 game? What does Beaty have to do to keep his job at this point?

Sep 08, 2018 09:56 PM #103

It's weird that we get turnovers and breaks in this game, but in many games in the past all we needed was one small break to get a win. Strange game.

Sep 08, 2018 09:57 PM #104

@Kcmatt7 Bowl game, 3-9 still gets him fired. All your scenario does is give Beaty the entire season instead of a midseason firing

Sep 08, 2018 10:00 PM #105

@Kcmatt7 I think he has to win 5 to keep it, but if the scenario you said plays out, it probably depends on how competitive we are. Last year we averaged a 32 point loss.

Sep 08, 2018 10:03 PM #106

I just want to make sure we give Beaty the benefit of the doubt. I think he needs to go, but man if he shows a big step forward this year (not that he has losing to an FCS team), I don't want to jump the gun on the process. If he wins 4, and we are at least competitive in several games I'd have a hard time letting him go. Just because that means he actually has proven that progress has been made.

Sep 08, 2018 10:04 PM #107

Georgia is the real deal.

Sep 08, 2018 10:06 PM #108

6 turnovers and now Carter Stanley is in. Weird game.

Sep 08, 2018 10:07 PM #109

31-7 with 4 minutes to play...the road losing streak is over. Pooka is the real thing and Dineen is a stud.

Sep 08, 2018 10:07 PM #110

Maybe the defense can be not absolutely god awful this year. And just below average.

Sep 08, 2018 10:09 PM #111

@Kcmatt7 The defense will get a reality check when conference play starts. Probably not next week based on how bad Rutgers is.

Sep 08, 2018 10:10 PM #112

The road streak is over!

Sep 08, 2018 10:11 PM #113

4 interceptions and 2 fumbles recovered by KU. CMU offense is pretty bad and KU took advantage of all mistakes.

Sep 08, 2018 10:12 PM #114

@kjayhawks Hello Pooka. - - - kid is a stud - -streak is OVER. - -let's not wet ourselves though - -competition gonna be a lot better - -BUT 6 TURNOVERS - -we only had 4 interceptions all of last year - - 4 today.

Again we will see how Pooka does against Big 12 defense - but I truly believe if our O-Line can give any kind of hole - -mercy is hit quick when he hits that 2nd gear. - Let's enjoy this win - get ready for next week - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
