Yeah he should save a year with how much wing depth we have. The comments from the staff are extremely promising for the future though.

Strongly agree. Players typically don't RS and leave under Self. If a player is taking a RS it's because they think that player will contribute down the road*. If it's a player they are on the fence about they won't RS so that if the player ends up transferring they won't have to actually burn eligibility sitting.

*Tyler Self doesn't count. :joy:

At the same time I really want to see what the hype is about with him so waiting a year will suck if that's the route they go. I guess its good problems for Self to have for once, possibly red-shirting a kid now that will be a multi-year starter down the road.

@BeddieKU23 You can still play in the exhibitions and take a RS if you are a FR I believe.

He's good, and athletic but this team is L-O-A-D-E-D with big guards in particular.

Difficult decision to red shirt the year where a National Title is a distinct possibility.

No way Mitch takes a RS now. Could absolutely be needed. One thing is for sure he will be ready if called upon.

I'm curious if you will see Basketball change the RS rule to something similar to football at some point. I don't think it would be good for the sport. I don't like it for football either.

Ya I hear ya buddy , I was just saying it would of been nice. - Yet I've always been behind Mitch , cause like I have said previously - he is just that

@BShark It would probably create a ton more Grad Transfers.

I'm anxious to see Agbaji play. Well actually all of them! I watched all the USA games so I expect a lot from grimes.

Basketball already has more flexibility in the RS rule than football. The NCAA has traditionally given out a lot more medical redshirts just because there are a lot more games.

Hopefully Ochai does take one. We don’t need him this year and I’d rather have him for when recruiting is a total mystery when OAD goes away. His senior year would be 22-23 so we’d have at least one stud for post-OAD. He’ll play tonight and the next one just because freshmen can play in exhibitions and still RS. Upperclassmen cannot, so if Mitch plays tonight he can’t, barring injury.

With SDS being out at his time I’d say no chance Mitch red shirts. I think Agbaji is a candidate forsure but he looked solid in the scrimmage at late night.

@BShark Does Silvio's status have an impact on this? My KJ to the 4 theory if Silvio is gone might open some minutes for Ochai at the 3, right?

Even if KJ slides down to the 4 primarily, the bulk of the guard minutes are going to go to Dotson, Grimes, Garrett and Vick. Then there is still Charlie Moore to consider. Just super crowded in the back court.

I'd bet he redshirts. No reason not to. Either he is good enough to leave early for the NBA or he gets a master's degree paid for. I'm surprised more guys don't opt for this honestly. Basketball scholarships are full ride...

Based on Self’s comments earlier and that to my knowledge it’s been the plan since Vick came back.

I think it would be best for him to RS. As Self said he is way too good to waste a year playing 5 minutes a game in the non con and then probably not playing at all once conference season starts. I think it would be best for him and the program.

We didn’t get much insight to Agbaji‘s game last night, but kid sure looks built solidly, huh.

Confirmed from HCBS, Freshman Ochai Agbaji will redshirt this season.
