In th other thread there were numerous people talking about how good our defense is. I don’t get it. Iowa St is getting anything they want. At some point it’s just about effort. Either you want to get stops or you don’t.

We're trying to play 4-1 without shooters. I said before. Like my chances 3-2 with this group better. Just because of the lack of shooting. We will only look decent when 3's fall.

How basketball works is it's a big advantage to sprint down the floor, really on both ends to gain a numeric advantage. I see one team hustling and they ain't wearing white.

Grimes is in a nasty transitional funk. He just doesn't seem well adjusted. I think we can all agree most of these guys will be back next year, except maybe DLaw.

If we're going to have no rebounding at all why not throw DMack in and put Vick on the bench.

Looks like a team that didn't practice since last friday to me. No game plan on either end that I can tell except to try to outrun and gun ISU and hope to shoot 35 free throws if they get in foul trouble (which they aren't). Will be interesting to see if we slow it down in the second half, but I doubt it.

The bottom line is that we desperately need Silvio to be cleared - not just for rebounding and some interior presence, but also so Vick and Grimes aren't on the floor at the same time...

If Vick and Q hit just a couple shots we are up. Come on guys, you have to hit those shots, especially the wide open 3's.

Serious gut check time here this second half.

I've been more frustrated with Self this season than any other with KJ playing huge minutes last game and tonight, the team that killed us from 3 2 weeks ago were gonna let them shoot it. Its just not logical, I dont get it.

This KU team just doesn't play that well as a team. I am not sure the assist numbers are ever going to get much better.

Now, if most of the core returns for next season, they will probably improve in that regard.

And yeah, 3PA...tale as old as time with Bill. We can talk about KU missing open looks but KU is only 3-8, that's solid for this team. Literally identical to ISU as they are 6-16, but obviously they shot twice as many. Weird that they have more points...

Positives: we are doing better in Turnovers (6-9), Fouls (4-7), Steals (5-4), Freethrow% (100-50)

Agbaji in over Grimes to start this half. GOOD.

@BShark well, it was like we were running some action that resulted in open passing lanes on several plays, and when the pass was there the ball handler flinched, didn't pass, and shot a brick.

We've had several good open looks we just can't shoot.

We get a stop and then we can't score.

Shooting would fix a lot of this.

I said this weeks ago. Lawson in the half court is better than anyone else. Slow the pace. Force other teams to execute half court. We suck in transition anyways.

I tend to not enjoy seasons like this more and more. Not cause we suck. It's the disconnect with the group. Ya know. A season where we lose alot of guys. Not alot of the group that's been here is back. And it really feels more that way with Silvio out and Udoka as well now. Takes me almost the whole season to feel connected and invested in a largely brand new group like this.

Remarkable that we have only 2 FT attempts - esp. as many times as we've taken it downhill - and, at home. No one takes it strong trying to drive, draw a foul and score through contact. All the drives are falling away, hoisted shots...

Lawson is a late second rounder at best and that won't change next year either. Improving his 3 point shooting might boost him to early to mid 2nd round status next year.

Really pleased with the second half, defense was much better. To me it all started with hustling, I dont believe we got beat down the floor at all and we got some transition buckets. Crazy that a team that shot 30 3s and fouled us on purpose shot 4 more free ones than us, Owell survive and improve.

We evened the rebound differential in 2nd half, and we improved our FG%.

Last 16 minutes were pretty good by this team. Backs were against the wall and they fought back and got the job done. Proud of that effort.

@kjayhawks play the guy who looks like he's been starting all year, IMO. Self might have learned something by expecting Selden to magically produce in games his first 2 years

I think he'd be better next year, but retaining Dotson is much more important. I think Dotson is the key to next year's back court being really good. Sprinkle in some more improvement from Garrett and Ochai.

It should not be impossible to bottle up what we did in the TCU game and what we did in the last 16 here and reproduce. Marcus going to the hole is really solid, Dedric is the same dude we've had all year, plus his 3pt% is starting to normalize. Dotson is still lightning fast and has a ton of upside if he's encouraged to hold on to the keys and run the offense. Ochai won't foul out next time, Grimes had a bad game, we didn't even use DMack, and Charlie and KJ didnt have enough time on the floor to do anything to be meaningful either good or bad. This is very reproducable with a lot more upside to it.

@approxinfinity Good choice! Sometimes babies, even if totally nuts, are easier to deal with than the endings of games.

Especially when, upon calming down, they just give you the sweetest innocent look and your heart melts.

Baylor has to be the surprise team this far, they didnt look good at all in the non conference. Obviously WV is the big let down, which still makes me mad about Saturday lol.

Not possible. They never touched him. It's been an issue for weeks really. Teams are guarding Dedric with a ton of physicality and he's not getting half the calls he should.
