KUBuckets through Summer
Mar 25, 2014 12:49 AM #1

Now that the season is over, I'm going to take a break from doing the daily news and stories and let you guys post as you like, which was some of the impetus behind me cutting down the front page layout.

I have some things I need to take care of for a while, and then
I plan to look further into fixing our data so that I can upgrade the board to the latest version of NodeBB. I mentioned earlier that the last time I attempted this, it failed due to bad data when attempting to upgrade. I don't think that's a big deal for the site as it currently stands, but being cut off from all the new features stinks, so I have to do something about it. While a wholesale reboot would be quick and easy, losing our data from the last year doesn't seem like a viable option, so I need to try to fix the data, and/or see if the NodeBB guys can help me, if they have time.

@approxinfinity can't thank you enough!

@approxinfinity You have provided a most generous service, esp. to those of us who abandoned the LJW site, all thwarted and disgruntled. Thanks for setting up this marvelous opportunity, and for the continuous tweaks. Would be nice and appropriate if some single advertiser would provide innocuous ads to remunerate you for your time and energy. Please keep the site alive!

@approxinfinity Just wanted to say thanks much for hosting so many us fans. Let me know if I can help you test anything.. Maybe I can find some time to figure out how to operate the scripts during the off-season!

Thanks guys. Appreciate the love. @REHawk Maybe on an ad. But the format is so clean right now. Don't want to compromise that. @bskeet definitely on testing. I was thinking of spinning up a second instance to check out the new features ahead of time. I will holler at you when it's up. Thanks so much for your help with the daily news and for staying up late into the evening when we tried to reskin the site. You were the ultimate team player and your help made a huge difference.

@approxinfinity Your hard work is greatly appreciated. (clap) (clap)

Without this site, I would have had no other place to express my joy and heartache this season. I've learned so much from others and look forward to keepin' it going till next season.

ROCK CHALK!

I'd also like to say thanks to @approxinfinity and @bskeet for all they have done this season in keeping all of us board rats together.

Yes, thanks for the site we can go to. Reading comments on websites which invite trolls, or just plain mentally unbalanced people, it's nice to come here and not have to wade through the idiots for the occasional gem. Here, it's all gems.

@approxinfinity

Thanks you for making this site available to us, die hard Jayhawk fans, to vent.

While at time we might not see eye to eye on issues, it is nice to see other views and present your own. We all have our beloved Jayhawks in common.

As we slowly fade into the non-basketball "blah" months, we do it with the thought that we will start up again in a few months with an improved KU team in the horizon.

I will periodically check the site; I imagine it will be very slow until football starts.

I bid all my fellow Jayhawks, even the long-winded ones, a great Spring and Summer and hope to see you back in a few months.

@approxinfinity thanks again so much for the work you and your team did to get this thing going and improving along the way. Hawk Talk is rare here in Texas so this site really helped me enjoy the season and learn a lot. RCJH

@approxinfinity - I am also very grateful that you put so much time and effort into this site. It sounds stupid, but this is one thing I really look forward to every day (yes, I know that's sad - but true!) and very early on I thought very briefly about going back to " you know where " but I just couldn't do it. Too negative over there.

This has been, and I hope will continue to be a mostly positive, always entertaining and informative site and I really, really (!) appreciate it.

Thanks to your family and spend MUCHO time with them this summer.

thanks @approxinfinity and @bskeet for all you're hard work. I love this site!!!!

Mar 25, 2014 08:43 PM #13

@HawkInMizery I wondered how you were! Sorry you had to see that game!

Mar 25, 2014 08:54 PM #14

@Crimsonorblue22 thanks for thinking of me! I actually ddin't make it to STL this weekend. I had that wedding Saturday and a surpise 50th birthday party for my mom and then forgot I told a couple frineds I would go to a place called Manifesto with them (it's a little lounge set in a speakeasy type setting), by the time Sunday morning came around I was too wiped to make the drive from KC. Kinda glad I saved my money. Being down in Dallas hurt enough last year no need to add insult to injury with an early exit this year ha!

Mar 25, 2014 10:43 PM #15

@HawkInMizery sooo, we can blame this loss on you instead of-------- fill in the blank! There's been plenty of blame around here. Nice you were there for your mom's big day.

Mar 26, 2014 05:38 AM #16

Thanks @approxinfinity and @bskeet for your hard work. It's been great on this site. Let me know if there is anything I can help.

Mar 26, 2014 06:27 PM #17

It's been fun and a big thank you to @approxinfinity and @bskeet for running this thing and giving us a place to hangout with like minded friends.

One thing though. Would it be possible on the home page to put a countdown clock for Late Night? Just curious.

Mar 27, 2014 12:08 PM #18

@brooksmd thanks man. I don't know about the countdown. Don't we all have that hardwired in our heads already? :) Think the homepage looks nice and clean as is. Maybe when we get close I'll put it up?

Mar 27, 2014 01:34 PM #19

@Crimsonorblue22 haaahah I do wonder what if I had gone??? You know the butterfly effect and all.

Mar 27, 2014 01:49 PM #20

@HawkInMizery let's have a do over!!

Mar 27, 2014 10:58 PM #21

Thanks for giving us a place to meet. I really don't know how you did all of this. There are a lot of very appreciative folks who are in your debt.
