Seems like it was mutual when you read the release. Hard to have 13 guys.

Reminds me of the dude from Chicago, Milton Doyle. Got here and received a rude awakening. Doyle’s brother got on kusports.com and threatened to pop a cap in me or something like that after some back and forth. They have strict gun control laws in Chicago so I was not worried.

Sep 21, 2019 02:07 AM #5

Damn, hoping he was one of those players willing to stick around 3-4 years. Better to find out now.

On fire lately

@FarmerJayhawk I thought he was the better PG on tape. McBride was a 5’10 SG who was going to have to learn to play point

Sep 21, 2019 05:52 AM #8

So who does this leave at backup PG?

Sep 21, 2019 11:39 AM #9

@Gorilla72 Harris then Garrett hopefully? I love Harris's offensive versatility. I think he could be special, just needs college experience and work on making the J automatic. I think we will miss McBride as a 3 pt specialist though.

Sep 21, 2019 11:44 AM #10

@approxinfinity Harris has to rs due to academics I believe.

Sep 21, 2019 11:49 AM #11

@BShark @Gorilla72 ergh. Roster hole #1. Preseason.

Sep 21, 2019 12:34 PM #12

@BShark I haven't found anything that indicated Harris was redshirting due to academics. Based on what I read, it sounded like the redshirt was due to how late he was arriving and that McBride was going to be the back up PG so there weren't any minutes available.

Sep 21, 2019 12:46 PM #13

How quickly can he get on with another team?

Sep 21, 2019 12:48 PM #14

@Texas-Hawk-10 If that's the case the RS will likely come off now. I think the academic RS thing is correct though. We will see.

Sep 21, 2019 12:51 PM #15

People that know much more than I do are saying this is simply because McBride didn't have it. If correct then @HighEliteMajor pretty much hit the nail on the head. Was a funny post either way.

Since he enrolled and (apparently) attended classes for several weeks at least, he won't be eligible until Spring 2021 unless granted a waiver. Isn't that what Frankamp did--left early in fall?

If he left due to the possibility of upcoming sanctions, it would be ironic if he could have stuck around until they were imposed and then transferred in April with immediate eligibility.

Sep 21, 2019 06:14 PM #17

Ryan on the Phog saying that it was a case of McBride not being good enough but it was him and his family that decided to move on. Self would have happily kept him around as an end of the bench player especially with the guard depth being so relatively thin (lots of wings and post guys though).

Sep 21, 2019 07:35 PM #18

@BShark

Its also a case of a kid quiting. He could have stuck it out and been developed. I guess it's a lost art now

In some articles when he committed the development of KU was mentioned. That he could be the next Mason or Graham. Maybe they were sore that KU kept recruiting and landed Harris? If that is the case...well bye...

Yeah whatever the case he quit and didnt even make the start of practice. I'm a bit pissed since I thought he would do well here but I guess investing any personal feelings into these kids today is a waste of time

Sep 21, 2019 08:49 PM #21

@BeddieKU23 I felt he had potential as well. As @justanotherfan has said before though, you need a baseline combo of skills and athleticism to make it at this level. Possible that he just wasn't athletic enough to where he could see much time. Either way he did not want to fight for it so maybe not a great fit to play for Bill. I will make a note of where he ends up. Ie Cunliffe to Evansville was pretty telling. The good news is that Harris appears to be a dude. Has the swagger as well.

Sep 21, 2019 08:55 PM #22

I don’t see how Harris would impact him. Self loves loves playing two PG types. It could be just as easy as he didn’t like it at KU. He may not have felt comfortable here. And that’s cool. If it’s competition, then he truly did us a favor by bailing now.

Sep 21, 2019 08:58 PM #23

Today was the last day of boot camp. Do you guys think that has something to do with it?

Sep 21, 2019 09:01 PM #24

Hate to see him leave but maybe he knew after his first practices that he was in the wrong place.

From June 6:
When freshman Issac McBride endured his first workout as a member of the University of Kansas basketball program earlier this week, the newcomer from Little Rock, Ark., immediately recognized he had reached a completely different level of competition.

This was faster. More intense. Higher expectations.

Still, the 6-foot, 180-pound guard didn’t let it all overwhelm him. Although he agreed with fellow freshman Tristan Enaruna that the experience was “eye-opening,”

Self does like it but you know how some kids can get attached to playing a specific position. Not saying it is 100% the case but it could be a factor.

Sep 21, 2019 09:46 PM #26

Harris has academics problems

Sep 21, 2019 09:55 PM #27

I don't think McBride fit in w/the guys, lifestyle etc. I know he's a pretty religious kid and I think he was pretty overwhelmed and just didn't find anything in common w/the rest of the team. He seems very young.

Sep 22, 2019 02:07 PM #28

@Crimsonorblue22 That could easily be a big part of it. Lots of kids have a hard time moving away from home for the first time, especially when the challenges exceed their expectations.

Sep 24, 2019 03:23 PM #29

Smaller guards have a lot of challenges as they move up. That's one reason why I am always hesitant to sign on to guys under 6-2. It's a huge challenge to play at the D1 level at that size. You are always facing bigger guys, and they are generally going to be just as good as (or better than) you, and they have the physical advantages that go along with that. For a smaller player, that's a huge challenge.

McBride may have discovered he would need a redshirt year at KU to even have a chance to compete for minutes. That's a tough call to make. Maybe he was homesick. That happens. Maybe there are other issues we don't know about. These guys are human, too.

Whatever the case, I wish him the best in the future.

If that were true, it would either make him a K-State fan or a communist. Same thing. Good riddance to him.

Now it’s hard for me to talk smack on this kid. Keep in mind he signed and stayed with KU during the midst of all this in November. With that I respect him and wish him luck.

Your comment about K-State fans being communist, now that is hitting the nail on the head. Can not stand them.

Sep 24, 2019 05:55 PM #33

Well... Kstaters are generally conservative, you’re more likely to run into a communist in Lawrence. But for goat ropers and chicken bangers Manhattan is happening.

Sep 25, 2019 06:19 PM #34

He felt the heat after we signed Harris, who can flat out ball. I wish him well.

Speaking of Harris, is he still RS this year since McBride is gone?

I believe he has to due to academics. @FarmerJayhawk can you confirm?

Sep 25, 2019 08:40 PM #37

@BShark pretty sure Harris is a partial qualifier. In reading between the lines in Self's comments about him redshirting, “We are very excited to have Dajuan,” Self said. “He’s going to be in a limited capacity and this will give him the opportunities to focus on books, focus on getting stronger and put himself in the position to be a contributor right off the bat next year.”

As a PQ, he won't be able to practice until spring semester (hence why he wasn't at boot camp). So no dice on him having a chance to play this year.

Makes perfect sense. Thanks.
