@kjayhawks is going to be extremely excited about this one. Les Miles announced today that Les Koenning has been relieved of his duties immediately and promoted Brent Dearmon to OC.

Dearmon was the HC at NAIA Bethel University in Tennessee where he guided that program to a 10-0 regular season record and averaged 540 yards of offense and 55 ppg in 2018. Dearmon has also been an OC at D2 Arkansas Tech and an offensive analyst at Auburn under Gus Malzahn.

Love the move. I think we’re all frustrated with Koenning’s playcalling and things got better when Dearmon had more input at BC. The timing is great too. Have a bye to get into the groove of things and we’ll see what we have in some winnable games down the stretch.

@FarmerJayhawk Yep exactly, it was right up David Beaty's alley. I get offensive line and QB are below average at this level. But that means you have to get creative and not run the same 6 plays over and over. We basically had 7 points the last 2 games that were against a first team defense. @Texas-Hawk-10 I've never been a big fan of firing people mid season but I feel his play calling and refusing to bench Stanley regardless of the score have cost us 2 wins. After the Coastal game I was more than ready to move on at seasons end. Sucks that you had some ties to the guy and it didn't work out.

A few things to watch. Emmett Jones is a leading candidate to take the WR coach job at Texas. Former UTSA coach Frank Wilson could be a replacement. Worked for Les at LSU and coached receivers at Tennessee. Lights out recruiter in Louisiana and the across the South. Bowen’s replacement will likely be from within.

Pooka gaining National attention before season begins. According to Pro Foot Ball Focus , they listed the top 25 returning running backs in America returning for another year Pooka checked in at # 7. - Pretty , they also mentioned as bad as the run blocking KU had - -Ku checked in at # 95 in that , still Pooka checked in at # 3 - -with 0.37 broken tackles per attempt. - -( DAM )

247 also has Pooka listed they listed the top 10 returning running backs and Pooka checked in at # 10. - -If we just had a QB that could run/throw a little a true dual threat, could you imagine how much that could help Pooka.

Until we get a QB that can make a defense respect the throw they just gonna keep stacking the box and shut Pooka down - -WE HAVE to get a QB

Hull is out. Classic case of what have you done for me lately. Recruiting fell off, he isn't a great on-field coach, and was making a lot of money. Deal was up so we mutually parted ways

Feb 13, 2020 10:01 PM #16

Hull was a HS coach with some ties. Nothing more.

Feb 13, 2020 10:19 PM #17

If he isn't landing players...then yeah pretty much.

Whether he was just a high School coach or not which I know he was, I think this move your gonna see repercussions . YA , YA, I know you say he was landing recruits. - - Well until we as a WHOLE COACHING STAFF, not just Tony - - until this Staff can get us MORE WINS on the filed then it isn't going to make a dam bit of difference. - We can Thank Tony for getting us ONE of our very few bright spots - that we DO have on the field. - -You think things were slim in the La area before? - we sure didn't do ourselves any favors by firing Tony - -word gets around. Tony is the one who brought us the LA connection - you best be finding some stud that all players have that Connection with in that area now - - Don't say Les, if that was the case why hadn't they commit even without Tony.

Stupid move - - P - - -= poor move Moronic move - -just shows how sad this program is - another BAD - - BAD - - BAD decision this dept and Staff made

We didn’t fire him. No hard feelings. His contract expires at the end of the month and he didn’t want to come back.

ya, after exploring some more have to totally recant 95% of what I posted, Sounds more like it was Tony then anything else. - -Still a very big loss, we sure have had the turnover. - -Not sure if it is conflict with Les or what. - - Tony was a major player to the LA pipeline, gonna be interesting to what happen with current LA players on team and any commits that we might have that was coming in for this coming year - -Need to get someone who has a really good LA connection
