Dec 11, 2019 01:02 AM #8

Ochai stay hot

Dec 11, 2019 01:03 AM #9

Well then

Dec 11, 2019 01:03 AM #10

Let's go Ochai confidence game.

Dec 11, 2019 01:04 AM #11

That steals per game stat warms my heart.

Dec 11, 2019 01:05 AM #12

OCHAIIIII

Dec 11, 2019 01:05 AM #13

God damn Ochai, save some for Nova.

Dec 11, 2019 01:06 AM #14

Ochai finally messed up. That was a bad pass when he had an easier one.

Dec 11, 2019 01:06 AM #15

Its lit

Had an easy shot

Dec 11, 2019 01:07 AM #17

If Doke could just make that jump hook more consistently he would be shooting 100%.

Dec 11, 2019 01:08 AM #18

Garrett is an OG on D.

Dec 11, 2019 01:08 AM #19

He's Garrett Payton.

Dec 11, 2019 01:08 AM #20

Well will they score 40?

Dec 11, 2019 01:08 AM #21

Man how the hell did we lose to Duke? Like I think they're a pretty good team but we are better.

Dec 11, 2019 01:08 AM #22

The difference between Milwaukee and very good mid majors like ETSU and Greensboro is very apparent.

Dec 11, 2019 01:09 AM #23

@BShark you could probable be naked tonightšŸ˜‘šŸ„“

BeddieKU23 said:

If KU played all out the whole game and didn't play the walk-ons either maybe not.

We know that isn't the case though. Self will do some troll line-ups and this definitely looks like a walk-on game so far.

Dec 11, 2019 01:11 AM #25

Reminder that the next team on the schedule lost to this Milwaukee team.

Dec 11, 2019 01:11 AM #26

LOL the weave

Dec 11, 2019 01:12 AM #27

Let's just sit Doke and Dotson and play De Sousa and Braun/Enaruna more.

Dec 11, 2019 01:13 AM #28

Probably a foul on Doke.

Dec 11, 2019 01:13 AM #29

Ugly

Dec 11, 2019 01:13 AM #30

I mean, if we are hitting threes we are just un fucking beatable.

This Milwaukee team ain't good tho.

Dec 11, 2019 01:13 AM #31

@BShark Hitting 3's and not turning the ball over.

Dec 11, 2019 01:14 AM #32

Are they d-1?

Dot not jumping much

Dec 11, 2019 01:17 AM #41

I'd just like to point out that Dotson is night-and-day finishing from last season. He's on that Frank path.

Dec 11, 2019 01:17 AM #43

@BShark It's definitely his last year.

@BShark I know what you meant. I typed that as Dotson hit a 3. Dude is good.

Dec 11, 2019 01:20 AM #47

This game is timed perfectly to watch the end of Tech-UL and Penn St-Maryland at halftime.

Dec 11, 2019 01:20 AM #48

They were really stretching d dot out before the 2nd half sat. Everyone else was shooting. We all were wondering about that.

Dec 11, 2019 01:21 AM #49

Christian Braun is playing PG. Okay...

Edit: Marc G now.

Dec 11, 2019 01:23 AM #53

When we shoot 7/12 from 3 the other team might as well not even play.

Dec 11, 2019 01:25 AM #54

Fun game for Bill to experiment.

Dec 11, 2019 01:25 AM #55

SILVIO DRIBBLING!

Dec 11, 2019 01:26 AM #59

How we looking? Who's hot, who's not?

Dec 11, 2019 01:27 AM #60

How did Marc G keep that in bounds?

Dec 11, 2019 01:27 AM #61

Magic I'm telling ya

Dec 11, 2019 01:29 AM #74

@FarmerJayhawk It's a game to test things out. Braun confirmed that he's not Michael Jordan on that play. Now we know.

Dec 11, 2019 01:32 AM #75

I honestly just feel bad for Milwaukee right now. This game is unnecessary.

Dec 11, 2019 01:33 AM #76

Doke just made that guy retire

Dec 11, 2019 01:33 AM #77

@KirkIsMyHinrich We do a pretty good job scheduling salty mid majors but its nice to have a small number of these.

Dec 11, 2019 01:33 AM #78

Doke blocked that with his elbow

Dec 11, 2019 01:33 AM #79

We passed up 3 good shots for that David jumper. Yikes

Dec 11, 2019 01:33 AM #80

Is that.font the same as Kansas City Royals jersey font?

Dec 11, 2019 01:34 AM #81

Ochai has some room to improve.

Dec 11, 2019 01:34 AM #82

Self's halftime board:

Doke, don't dribble.

Ochai, don't pass.

Braun, don't drive.

Okay let's get 'em boys!

Dec 11, 2019 01:36 AM #83

@KirkIsMyHinrich Hopefully Ochai figures it out for next year.

Dec 11, 2019 01:36 AM #84

My god, what a clinic they're putting on. Hustle on both ends.

Dec 11, 2019 01:37 AM #85

So there has been, a, uh uh uh emphasis on uh rebounding tonight.

Dec 11, 2019 01:37 AM #86

Rebounding!

Dec 11, 2019 01:38 AM #87

clock checked saved Big Dave from clanking a tour around jumper

Dec 11, 2019 01:38 AM #88

Tech up by 9. Penn St up by 6.

Penn St. is decent and playing at home so I'm not surprised by that. I am surprised by Tech though.

Dec 11, 2019 01:39 AM #89

@BShark Good to hear. We were only +3 last game.

Dec 11, 2019 01:40 AM #90

Dec 11, 2019 01:40 AM #92

I don't think we appreciate how good Bill Self teams are at getting the ball into the post. By comparison the entry passes by UNC in the game I went to were pitiful

Edit: by we, I mean me.

Dec 11, 2019 01:40 AM #93

@Big-Clyde52 Self has rightfully been pretty mad about the bad rebounding. It should be a stat this KU team dominates.

Dec 11, 2019 01:41 AM #94

approxinfinity said:

This team isn't great at it but I get your point. Still probably better than average because Self makes it a focal point.

Dec 11, 2019 01:41 AM #95

Self drills the angles and the entry pass like no other.

Dec 11, 2019 01:41 AM #96

I think the entry-passing has some room for improvement honestly.

Dec 11, 2019 01:42 AM #97

@KirkIsMyHinrich Brady Morningstar agrees. I remember Selden being pretty good at it too.

Dec 11, 2019 01:43 AM #98

Why does Silvio catch the ball practically on the floor on each entry pass?

Dec 11, 2019 01:43 AM #99

@BShark absolutely. You don't construct a roster like this without an expectation of winning the boards.

Dec 11, 2019 01:43 AM #100

@KirkIsMyHinrich Agreed. We turned it over quite a lot last game trying to force it in there.

Dec 11, 2019 01:44 AM #101

Dec 11, 2019 01:46 AM #110

Dec 11, 2019 01:46 AM #111

almost set a good screen, then bailed on it, silvio

Dec 11, 2019 01:46 AM #112

I don't know about that. He looked pretty set to me. The guy just flailed.

Dec 11, 2019 01:46 AM #113

I'm concerned that Silvio's weight lifting has messed him up.

Dec 11, 2019 01:46 AM #114

@BShark Shouldn't those guys be better than Milwaukee???

Dec 11, 2019 01:47 AM #115

He seems to run a little funny like he's got back issues and seems to have a lack of agility that I don't remember his freshman year.

Dec 11, 2019 01:47 AM #116

approxinfinity said:

I think it’s above the neck with him

Dec 11, 2019 01:47 AM #117

@DCHawker It's caused defensive issues. Braun in particular is quite bad defensively.

Dec 11, 2019 01:47 AM #118

Imagine 4 yrs of dotson

Dec 11, 2019 01:48 AM #119

Dotson was just going to hang out with the cheerleaders until a teammate came over to help him up. LOL

Dec 11, 2019 01:48 AM #120

Penn State still up by 6. 3 minutes to go.

Dec 11, 2019 01:48 AM #121

@BeddieKU23 Or one year with Dot and Bryce.

Dec 11, 2019 01:48 AM #122

Exactly what I'm talking about. This group doesn't have it on d. Wide open lay-up for Milwaukee. We won't see this line-up in real games.

Dec 11, 2019 01:48 AM #123

Christian is a yr away from a year away of being average defensively

Dec 11, 2019 01:49 AM #124

Junior dot, Senior Marcus, Junior Ochai sounds pretty good to me.

Dec 11, 2019 01:50 AM #125

BeddieKU23 said:

Imagine 4 yrs of dotson

That 31-6-4-5-0 line against Dayton was what Derrick Rose wishes he was his freshman year. I'm still convinced Devon goes lottery (assuming his 3 point shooting is around 36%)

Dec 11, 2019 01:50 AM #126

No reason Christian can't be a better defender than Grayson Allen. Bruan's arms are longer and he's not a tripper.

Dec 11, 2019 01:50 AM #127

Our 5th guard in the rotation is Grimes defensively. We good

Dec 11, 2019 01:50 AM #128

Not a great end to the half - they outscored us 12-7 in the last 6 minutes....

Dec 11, 2019 01:51 AM #129

Coach heading to the locker room to chew out the bench.

Dec 11, 2019 01:51 AM #130

@approxinfinity

Unfortunately I think Devon is a 2nd rounder no matter what he does. Being 6-2 with a streaky 3 hurts

Dec 11, 2019 01:51 AM #131

The bench looked a little lost but that’s why we need this game.

Dec 11, 2019 01:51 AM #132

DCHawker said:

I can see where it is frustrating to watch but it doesn't really matter. Would playing our best line-ups to be up 62-22 or so prove anything? If you don't experiment now there really isn't a time to do it.

Dec 11, 2019 01:51 AM #133

Dotson is averaging like 19, 4, and 4. If he maintains that he's a 1st rounder.

DanR said:

Dec 11, 2019 01:52 AM #136

Tech up by 8 on L'Ville with 5:40. Tortillas!

Dec 11, 2019 01:53 AM #137

KirkIsMyHinrich said:

He may look like a first round talent to us but he really isnt getting that kind of love from scouts and those that do this for a living

Dec 11, 2019 01:53 AM #139

@BShark Absolutely agree - just disappointed with the results....

Dec 11, 2019 01:53 AM #140

Penn St up by 10 with 1:30 shooting free throws now. Not surprised. Maryland got away with one last week against Illinois.

Dec 11, 2019 01:54 AM #141

@BeddieKU23 Derrick Rose shot 33.7% from 3 and 47% from the field and went #1 overall. I know things have changed since 2008 but speed still kills.

Dec 11, 2019 01:54 AM #142

RELEASE THE TEDDY BEARS !

Dec 11, 2019 01:54 AM #143

@BeddieKU23 Well as long as he doesn't go to Sacramento. 2nd-round picks can do well too (see: Graham).

Dec 11, 2019 01:54 AM #144

It's been widely discussed this is devons last season

Dec 11, 2019 01:59 AM #152

@DanR

Raymond Felton comes to mind

Dec 11, 2019 01:59 AM #153

I see a 1 inch shorter DRose and Westbrook.

Dec 11, 2019 02:00 AM #154

@BeddieKU23 I haven't discussed it. He's not as good as Frank was leaving as a senior. does he have a 40 inch vertical like frank? Range of Devonte?

Dec 11, 2019 02:00 AM #155

MD trying to come back...

Dec 11, 2019 02:00 AM #156

Penn St is really trying to screw this game up. Man.

Dec 11, 2019 02:00 AM #157

Louisville never should have gotten rid of David Padgett ;)

Dec 11, 2019 02:00 AM #158

@approxinfinity

The 1 inch seems to matter. He has tremendous speed and is athletic. Pg skills still need tuning but he is a heck of a player

Dec 11, 2019 02:00 AM #159

Yeah it doesn't matter if he's NBA ready or not, it's time for Dot to start cashing big checks. If he doesn't stick in the NBA he still has a long future in pro ball.

Dec 11, 2019 02:01 AM #160

@BShark I'd agree with that.

DanR said:

Unfair to compare him to them. Devon as a sophomore is above where those 2 guys were as sophomores

Dec 11, 2019 02:02 AM #162

Penn State closing it out.

Dec 11, 2019 02:02 AM #163

Maybe a worse-shooting Damian Lillard? He's not nearly as athletic as Westbrook. Westbrook yams on dudes.

Dec 11, 2019 02:03 AM #164

Tortillas up by 8 with 2 min.

Dec 11, 2019 02:03 AM #165

Monster work on the boards so far. 29 to 9. Coach's butt chewing must've worked.

Dec 11, 2019 02:03 AM #166

Penn St wins.

Dec 11, 2019 02:04 AM #167

Kind of called that one. Road games in cbb are hard.

Dec 11, 2019 02:04 AM #168

@KirkIsMyHinrich

The Westbrook's of the world dont grow on trees. He has the speed of Felton in the College game. Hopefully when it's time he lands in a good situation. He is much more confident a player then he was going into the Combine. Should help his case

Dec 11, 2019 02:04 AM #170

@KirkIsMyHinrich And Tech still up by 8

Dec 11, 2019 02:05 AM #171

Dotson plays below the rim and that’s why he’s not high on scouts boards.

Dec 11, 2019 02:06 AM #175

Nice play to start the half. Bill is decent at coachin'

Dec 11, 2019 02:06 AM #176

Tech up by 13 with 45 seconds. Bye Louisville.

Dec 11, 2019 02:13 AM #200

Dotson not improving that vertical anytime soon. He looks like his legs hurt bad right now. He’s slow (for him) switching like crazy on D, stiff and limping a lot. I’m a bit worried.

Was just about to say I don’t see that much difference. He has to gather and that always looks great against 6’1 HS kids. He’s a good athlete moving side to side and fairly skilled but not a guy we’re going to run lobs for.

Dec 11, 2019 02:48 AM #293

In a game like this a guy just wants to go win the second half and get the walk-ons in. Not sure we will see them outside of a few seconds.

Dec 11, 2019 03:02 AM #327

Doke reminds me of the Royal's Salvy Perez in post game interviews. Speaks excitedly and confidently and I can barely catch every third or fourth word and I love it.

Dec 11, 2019 03:12 AM #328

Great game by Doke, Dot and Ochai. I’ll be expecting more boards from Doke in the future, no reason why he can’t average 10 or 12. The main difference tonight is he actually went after them on both ends repeatedly, didn’t just wait and hope it came his way.

Dec 11, 2019 03:16 AM #329

This was a "perfect" game. Played amazing flashing the true ability of this team when locked in. Proceeded to fool around with line-ups getting guys valuable pt. Guys got lazy so Self can chew on them then they put them to sleep after it got down to 16.

Dec 11, 2019 03:17 AM #330

Dec 11, 2019 03:21 AM #331

BYU up by 25 over a decent Nevada team. Makes us look better.

Dec 11, 2019 03:26 AM #332

Excited Doke is boarding better, also makes me cringe with the hand injury history.

Dec 11, 2019 03:27 AM #333

@Big-Clyde52 BYU is a solid, fringe tournament team imo. KU completely controlled that game, and really every game since the Duke game except Dayton as that one got hairy late (three games in three days didn't help).

Some good teams played in that stretch. Shouldn't be much of a game against KC so I'm really looking at the Nova game as a benchmark. Tough road game against a good offense.

Dec 11, 2019 03:30 AM #334

@BShark Agree. Our next 2 games will be testers on the road at Nova and then Jarrod's bunch. Then we jump right into the Big 12.

Dec 11, 2019 03:38 AM #335

@approxinfinity stop that!

Dec 11, 2019 04:05 AM #336

Dec 11, 2019 11:29 AM #337

For sure a tale of 2 halves last night. You know for sure Self was not happy with the way they played that 2nd half last night - not good. - -the 2nd half just way , way to many open layups - like the Red Sea parting - - Wide open 3's like shooting practice in practice - -defense intensity was gone the 2nd half. - sure we won, but we play like that against somebody - -anybody that is anybody later in the year - -we gonna be in trouble.

Right around the 8:00 mark in the 1st half we were up 40-12 - - -from that point on we ended up being outscored 66-55 -- -not good , must of been thinking games were 20 minute games instead of 40 - -tale of two games - -we looked pretty good for the 1st 15 minutes - -then just eh the rest - - I'm sure Coach will remind them tomorrow. - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Dec 11, 2019 12:21 PM #338

Self played Braun more than Enaruna.

Garrett is now down to 26.7% from three. Missed wide open attempts last night.

We discussed Doke’s poor rebounding. Maybe someone challenged his manhood. Seems to prove the effort argument. He plainly had a different mindset.

The total minutes for our bigs was 57. On Saturday it was 54. 48 vs Dayton. 50 vs BYU. McCormack’s minutes since playing 29 vs Duke - 11, 16, 12 17, 20, 16, 15, 17.

Dec 11, 2019 12:29 PM #339

PER's after the Milwaukee game.

Dotson is on a tear, now up to 26.2

Agbaji has made leaps in the last 4 games to 16.1 after hovering in the 10 range.

Garrett has dipped a bit recently but still well above his career average.

Some impressive stats for the Hawks individually after 9 games.

Dotson 19.8 ppg, 5 assists, 3.9 boards, 2 steals. 85.9% FT, 49% FG, 32.5% from 3.

Doke 14.8 ppg, 8.4 boards, 1.9 blocks pg. An Astounding 82% from the field. Maybe just as important up to 1 assist pg, and his fouls per game are down. @approxinfinity, your spot on with Doke about his passing improving

Agbaji now up to 12.1 ppg, 5.2 boards, 2.6 assists and now more importantly 40% from 3.

Garrett, solid line- 9, 4, over 4 assists a game, 2 steals.

Moss- doing exactly what we need, a 45% 3 point shooter. Also important to note he'll be an invaluable late game FT shooter with Dotson (90%).

Moss is doing this without them being wide-open 3s too. You give him the smallest of a window and he isn't afraid to let it fly. Legit shooter.

Dec 11, 2019 04:45 PM #342

@Kcmatt7

Very good shooter. Gives this team invaluable spacing as well. If Agbaji and Moss are hitting 40% consistently we should theoretically keep defenses from trying to double the post option and should help keep those drives open for Dotson and Garrett. We'll see. I've been impressed with how well Moss has settled into his role
