Is this media or coaches awards?

Mar 08, 2020 09:19 PM #11

@Texas-Hawk-10 Coaches I believe: https://big12sports.com/news/2020/3/7/mens-basketball-all-big-12-awards-announced.aspx ↗

Comes from the conference directly.

Coaches. Marcus got robbed. Should’ve been at least second team.

Mar 08, 2020 09:19 PM #13

Must have voted for Drew before they Drew’d and lost 3 of 4 😂

Mar 08, 2020 09:34 PM #14

@kjayhawks Nice!

I agree on that one, Garrett should've been 2nd team over Haliburton. Haliburton is a very good player, honestly probably the most talented player in the B12, but as many games as he missed with injury, he should've been dropped to 3rd team in place of Garrett.

Self goes 17-1 and doesn't win COY. Gtfu

@BeddieKU23 "Coach That Exceeded Expectations The Most This Year Award"

Mar 08, 2020 09:42 PM #18

@BeddieKU23 I agree and as I said earlier, they had to have voted for that a week or two ago.

Mar 08, 2020 09:45 PM #19

I honestly don't have an issue with Drew winning COY. KU is in a position most people expected to be in. While Baylor was picked 2nd, nobody had them being this good nationally. While Self is absolutely the better coach of the two, but Drew did an amazing job this year having Baylor ranked #1 for a big chunk of the season and I have no issues with him getting the award this season.

Mar 08, 2020 09:53 PM #20

Udoka is also first team defense. Braun made the all FR team.

Mar 08, 2020 09:56 PM #21

@Texas-Hawk-10 Drew has a good season but I just feel like Self doesn’t get it as often as he should.

Mar 08, 2020 10:05 PM #22

Crazy to think Garrett leads the conference in assists and is the best defender but is on the 3rd team SMH. They just didn’t want too many hawks on the first and second team I guess. We did completely dominate the league...

Self's won it 6 times. Realistically, you probably could give it to Self just about every season, but it really doesn't bother me to see Drew win it this year. How many people genuinely expected Baylor to be 26-4 this season and 15-3 in B12 play? You tell just about anyone that ahead of the season, and they'd assume Baylor wins the regular season title. In the 18 game era of Big 12 play, 15-3 wins at least a share of the regular season title all but 3 times, including this season.

If you're mad about that, check out the Naismith COTY Semifinalists. Somehow Calipari is on there and Self isn't.

Mar 08, 2020 10:28 PM #26

@KirkIsMyHinrich

Yeah I saw that. There is no point to that award if Calipari is on the list this year. But these awards seldom make sense

Great to see Braun get recognition. Had a solid season even though the stats weren't huge

Mar 08, 2020 10:31 PM #29

I have to be honest, I really thought Dotson deserved POY in the conference.

Bill should have simply lost to Evansville. EZ.

Mar 08, 2020 10:34 PM #31

@BShark By the way, I appreciate all of what you do for this site. Guess my lazy ass needs to step up its game.

I saw that and that's the one that I'm trying to figure out. I probably would've had Kyle Keller from SFA on there instead. I have no issues with the other 9 though.

That’s really quite laughable, preseason #2 team in the land that’s currently ranked 8th. Won a crap conference that probably has 1 or zero teams make it outta the first weekend of the tournament. All with bought blue chip players, La Te Da..

Mar 09, 2020 12:54 AM #38

Losing to Evansville at home ought to automatically disqualify you from winning a coach of the year award for at least the next 5 years.

Mar 09, 2020 01:26 AM #39

We just need to move on from that Evansville loss because Kentucky is playing as great as anyone in the country. Not my words!

Mar 09, 2020 01:45 AM #40

Above article written days before the team "playing as well as anyone in the country" blows a 17 point 2nd half lead at home. So basically the logic is Calipari is a candidate because he was undefeated in 25 games this year. (We'll ignore the other 6 games in which they weren't undefeated.)

Mar 09, 2020 02:41 AM #41

Kentucky: Preseason #2, 25-6 record, 15-3 in the SEC, probably drops a few spots from 6th in the polls tomorrow, probably a 3-seed in the tourney.

Kansas: Preseason #3, 28-3 record, 17-1 in the B12, unanimous #1 in AP and Coaches Poll, probably the overall 1-seed in the tourney.

Hmmm...

Mar 09, 2020 01:08 PM #42

Oddly, I suspect Cal would not have gotten the nomination if UNC had performed to expectations. Cal may have saved UK's season, while Roy's team showed how things can accelerate from questionable to disaster.
