Pretty damn good class when this is the other guy in it to this point.

Imagine self with 13 Uber athletes on his team at once. Just imagine
Yeah coming into the year I never would have thought he could be a draft prospect but I'm sold on him playing at the next level when his career is done now after seeing him so far this season. He's going to go down as one of the best PG's in KU history imo.
Self has been lobbying for him all season as underrated and I think that's part of the plan to get him the attention he deserves for after KU.
Crazy, 11 times. He's a GOAT and I'll fight anyone that says otherwise 😎
Think he was ending up in his original class. He has played in almost every game this year and is a role player for them right now. He's going to be good in time I think. Might end up somewhere else down the road too
Skyy Clark leaves Illinois. Just wow
@rockchalkjayhawk said in 247's Draftable List (NBA Draft):
Yup. I'd for sure like to see him at his best in Year 2!
Maybe with the NIL $$$$, he'll stick around.
Adidas did sign him this year. About the only hope we have there I believe
He's trying to adjust to the defenses. Everyone knows he gets his shot off super-fast. He won't have that issue in the NBA. His offensive game imo is still far-far away from being a finished product. He has all the makings of an elite shooter/shot maker and it's going to take time before he's finished developing. We won't see him at his best but it sure is fun watching him at the beginning of his journey as well.
Gradey will probably be different then some of our recent guys that have gone to the league. They developed a full game before going. Gradey will leave with a high degree of development still to reach which is part of why he's a potential lottery selection.
The public has a way of forgetting things after a bit of time. A year goes by, and will anyone be worrying about where Chris Beard is?
Unless Beard is going to leave coaching and retire, I have the opinion he'll be coaching again in the next 1-3 years. While I don't agree with that, coaches usually get a bunch of 2nd chances. I think it also depends on the outcome of his case.
Beard made it to the top and didn't get to stay there long. I'm sure that's going to eat at him for a long time & rightfully so, its earned
Yeah Stevenson can really shoot though and he's the one guy KU has to pay extra attention to because of his ability to score. He can get 30 when he's hot. Tre Mitchell has looked decent for them, obv I have bad memories of him banking in the 3 that helped Texas beat us last year. Matthews is another solid vet that came back to them in the portal after a stint at Washington. They don't have much else. Toussiant will fill in for Johnson and will have to play heavy minutes. Big loss for a team on the slide.
West Virginia is Top 40 in the nation in fouls per game (I know a real shocker) so naturally I'll expect KU to have double the foul rate of them in Morgantown.
Gradey one of 16 potential Lottery selections at this point.
Kansas (5)
Gradey Dick: 6-7, FR, W, Lottery
Jalen Wilson: 6-8, RS-JR, F, R1
Dajuan Harris: 6-1, RS-JR, PG, R2
Kevin McCullar: 6-6, RS-SR, W, R2
Ernest Udeh Jr.: 6-11, FR, C, Future
Big loss for WVU Saturday as their starting PG Kedrian Johnson is out with a Concussion. Leads the team in assists, steals and FT's and is averaging 9ppg.
I'm definitely more vocal about the refs. Complain, Criticize, whatever you want to call it, I'm calling it like I see it especially when they yield so much influence on a game.
Bigger picture issue is that officiating is not improving. I understand it's a difficult job. It seems to be the one area of the game that is constantly not performing at a consistent level & the reputation they have with fans accross the country only gets worse. The Iowa/Indiana Coach situation is a good example again from last night. I'd have less to gripe about if they just made the easy layup calls correctly.
Probably a place he'll have to go for a year or two to clean up his image before a P5 school will take on his risk.
Not a big list, we seem to be getting selective. Haven't really turned my attention to this group yet either though
Wow Texas did the right thing. Beard will find another job next year or the year after.
The round-robin schedule + KU's dominance in league play has evolved this league into what it is. Self raised the bar single handily for every team and it's morphed into this beast now. We should all enjoy it because this is the end of this great league's magic with OU/Texas leaving for money.
The league will be in a transition for years to come after this royal rumble ends
Yeah not losing sleep here. NC kid so pulling him obviously won't be easy anyway. Not seeing KU involved with a ton of 24's so far. A lot of kids have already moved their recruitments up and made commitments so interested to see what actual targets pop up.
After 1 week of league play and having watched bits and pieces of almost every other Big-12 game it's already clear that the officiating has been inconsistent and sub-par, some of it down-right embarrassing. I saw Iowa St shoot a ball off the side of the backboard out of bounds last night in the first half, get the ball back and score. You have to be blind to have missed the ball not being out of bounds. OU fans were livid. And there's just too many examples of things like this already.
KJ Adams was held by his legs trying to make a layup with no call in the first half of the Tech game. Just stuff that shouldn't be missed, blatant obvious stuff here. We all know he was fouled on his game sealing Dunk as well. A play that could have gone differently and horribly wrong given his speed and momentum to the rim.
Perhaps having 3 refs on the court isn't enough though I doubt more eyes will make a difference. I hope the Big-12 is reviewing this stuff and having active talks. There's no reason after 1 week to have seen this level of inconsistency in league play.
Situationally I think we have benefitted the last two games.
What I took away from those stats is that KU is not a good team at drawing fouls and getting to the line. KU is 315th in the country in FT attempts per game. A definite weakness that needs improvement. Getting to the FT line can be impactful and the difference in a game where both teams are even statistically etc. How KU is running offense and generating points is perhaps the biggest factor for why they struggle getting to the line. We'll see what evolves of this moving forward.
A look at the Big-12 via Kenpom and conference record so far. I'll try and update this weekly.
Bill Self is 300-16 in Allen Fieldhouse. He's coached at KU more years than he's lost home games.
This stat came from The Athletic column CJ Moore did after the Tech win (another fabolous read fyi)
"In games decided by five points or fewer, Kansas is 117-51 under Self." 69.6% win rate in close games.
"That means if you wiped out all of the others games in his career, Self would rank 77th all time among college basketball coaches in win percentage in just those games."
We could literally go on and on about this man.

Nike delivered a handpicked squad to Duke and Johnny boy is going to lose 11 games with them.
Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch::hugging_face:
Poor roster construction though. College Basketball got old because of covid, the transfer portal and now NIL. You cannot win today with freshman leading & the teams still trying to do it are behind the times. I'm glad Jon doesn't realize what's happening and will continue to stockpile the 5-6 HS players that dream of playing at Duke for a year before they leave.
I don't even bat an eye anymore when Duke/Kentucky get all the hoopla 5 star recruits. It used to give them an advantage but now you can go get ready made players in the portal and negate those advantages.
I've said a lot just to say they are not Bill Self at recruiting, development & roster construction.
No but they are not as good as the previous 3-4 Baylor teams which is a hard bar to continue to stay at. Cryer being off/on injured hurts them. They lack an athlete at the 4 position and Thamba being a non-scoring threat in the post makes them really perimeter oriented. It's their defense that's struggles the most not having that 4 man that can dictate the lane and disrupt.
TCU is a tough out especially with their experience and chemistry. I think they are our toughest matchup in the Big-12 this year 1-5. Extremely rare to see a team return its Top 8 players from a year ago.
