How can I add a picture, I seem to have forgotten cannot find info under "how site works."

Thank you

!

When you are really injured you have to jump. Can't give folks another year of analysis. Make them take risk based on less information....

How desperate are we for a PG exactly? • Mar 27, 2014 01:11 PM

Not desperate enough for a one year commitment. Those are the death of College Basketball. Deandre Kane's are not very common.

March: Post-Season News Headlines Digest • Mar 27, 2014 11:56 AM

Yep , exactly nuleaf :)

RE; point guard talk...Conner vs Frank....

My preference would be Conner WITH Frank 1 and 2. Wayne 3, Ellis 4. We'll see on the 5 spot. A lot can change, but I expect Jamari to make similar strides in his development and be very difficult to keep off the floor. He's established his face up 15 footer, next year I expect to see him take more people off the drive with it and I see Bill going back to the 7-8 Man rotation next year: Conner, Frank, Brannen, Wayne, Perry, Cliff, Jamari, (Embiid, Turner, ???). Landen and Hunter will be odd men out for minutes. But I digress.

Conner and Frank give us the perfect combination of caution and aggression; speed and steadiness, drive/collapse/dish.

Of course Frankamp had 0 turnovers in 140 minutes. He would be perfect for Bo Ryan with his slow, deliberate, but cautions and steady pace. He's not going to make plays off of the bounce, but he's not going to lose the ball either.

Mason, is the opposite of Frankamp. And once he can get his swinging legs under control, I expect his trey % to improve as well.

One last comment: what is with our desire to label Kelly Oubre the "next" whoever. Why is society obsessed with this fad of having the "next" blah blah blah. Why can't we just evaluate Kelly Oubre for who Kelly Oubre is? It seems lazy to me. Instead of actually giving explanations regarding skill set and siting specific examples we just say "oh, he's the next Kobe Bryant" or "next Hakeem Olajuwon" blah blah blah. Guess I can get off the soap box now :)

For those folks who are saying that Embiid needs to go ahead and quickly make up his mind and announce his future intentions, I don't think you are being fair to Jo and his family. This is quite possibly the biggest decision the young man has ever had to make in his life, and here we have board rats proclaiming "hurry up and decide so we can get Myles Turner." Quite in line with todays "what have you done for me lately" mentality. You know, the way I see it: JoJo is a Jayhawk, and he means more to me than any potential Jayhawk. I hope Jo takes as much time as he needs to consult as many people as he needs to make the best decision for himself. If we miss out on a prospect because of it, then so be it. I know I wouldn't rush my own children on decisions such as these.

March 20: News Headlines Digest • Mar 20, 2014 02:08 PM

I believe my expectations are probably too high, but I have the Big 12 going 15-7 in the tournament this year. I hope the conference proves its toughness over the next few weeks.

Kansas 4 and 1
Baylor 3 and 1
Iowa St 4 and 1
Oklahoma 1 and 1
Ok St 1 and 1
KSU 0 and 1
Texas 2 and 1

Why Wiggins Won Me Over • Mar 20, 2014 02:04 PM

Definitely agree with all of these points. I am very satisfied with Andrews improvement over the 8 months he's been here. At times I question his want to, but I also understand that some of us are reserved in our behavior until we become comfortable in a new environment. He has been showing us the last few weeks what many of us knew he could do.

March 11: News Headlines Digest • Mar 11, 2014 02:38 PM

Off topic:

If Los Angeles Lakers call Bill this summer, will he take the gig? If he did, would you be surprised to see him take Danny Manning and Larry Brown with him as assistants?

Have Faith • Mar 11, 2014 02:34 PM

@tundrahok Hey, I know I'm all sour grapes right now. I am not questioning Tharpes want to or will, or any of the players (except maybe Andrews for a part of the season) I just think he's tired. I know he's tired. I see him enough to see it all over him. I just hope he has good couple of tourney games.

Have Faith • Mar 11, 2014 02:19 PM

Negative crap. Pessimistic bitching. Angry loud noises. Grunt. Sigh. Aaaarrghh.

The fact that Tharpe is completely worn down...I mean the dude is toast, cooked, and overcooked some more. Way past fatigued. Waaaay past Eljiah Johnsoned...that is the reason this team will not make it out of the first weekend. Not Embiids absence. This team can advance without Embiid, but it cannot navigate the tourney when the HEAD IS CUT OFF. Sorry, but my observation and intuition indicates to me that our head is cut off and won't be mended in time.

Not only is Tharpe worn down, so are Embiid & Selden. Of Course, Wiggins only went about 70% all year so he has plenty of gas left in the tank.

None of these kids were ready, nor could be ready for the physical grinds of a season at a division I school, let a lone the added pressures that come with playing at the top program in the World. Our fandom constantly ridiculing and peering upon them. Having to be on 'point' the way they do. It is not a surprise to me they have lost physical strength and sharp mental focus.

PS. Hey, Myles Turner--come on down. Our coach will push you through injury by questioning your manhood and toughness. If you are lucky, instead of dealing with the problem, maybe he will compound it for you.

This was edited from the previous version, but golly gee do I feel better now :)

30 years • Mar 07, 2014 04:11 PM

Cannot be coincidence that I was born in April of 83. :)

February 18: News Headlines Digest • Feb 19, 2014 12:26 AM

I'm looking for Melvin Weatherwax to show him how it feels when random people decide to scream in his face. Just kidding. But seriously.

February 18: News Headlines Digest • Feb 18, 2014 06:05 PM

...but there is also a small part of me who believes Tubby might still be living off if Pitinos recruits.

February 18: News Headlines Digest • Feb 18, 2014 06:03 PM

Just purchased tickets for the Iowa st Texas game. I've wanted to experience Hilton for a long time now, and happen to be in the area on business. I hope it lives up to my expectations, but more importantly that Texas loses :) sooner than later business will coincide with home games at chapel hill and Cameron Indoor.

I'm a little concerned about playing Tech tonight. This is a potential coming out party for them and I expect s very high level of energy amd competitiveness from them.

STAT DAT! • Feb 14, 2014 03:33 PM

Not that stats tell all of the story but worth noting is Wiggins leads the team in plus minus. Followed by Embiid and Ellis. All 3 in 10 to 15 range. Selden is 22 and surprisingly Tharpe is last on team at 30. Numbers reference big 12 ranking.

February 14: News Headlines Digest • Feb 14, 2014 03:18 PM

Lulu it's really very simple. Go to "how this site works" and read how to imbed link.

I would just tell you but then you may not know where to find other great and useful information.

February 13: News Headlines Digest • Feb 13, 2014 05:17 PM

I was thinking the same thing. I don't put a lot of stock into Lunardi, though he really does a pretty good job. But right now, they have us on a 2 line and Florida on the 1. I do not want to play them again. They have an excellent coach, and I don't think we match up well, mainly because their strength--switching zone defenses--is one of our greatest weaknesses. Not a favorable matchup. I would like to be in WSU bracket for sure.

Actually, we are now a 3 seed in Wichitas Bracket w/ Michigan as the #2. I'd take that path.

KenPom Article ↗

This article is an interesting read. It did not require me to log in to my kenpom account, so I assume it is free for everybody to read.

Excerpt:

It is February 12, 33 days from the ACC championship game, and the Orange have played five true road games and none of them were particularly scary. In theory the most difficult of the bunch was a game against St. John’s at Madison Square Garden, which might not be considered a particularly hostile venue for New York’s College Team. The other road games were against #70 Miami FL, #104 Wake Forest, #151 Boston College and #209 Virginia Tech.

If you ask people in the know, I guess they would say that Syracuse is the best team in the country? The Orange are #1 in the polls, but I’m never really sure what that means. I don’t think any writer is free to vote them something other than #1, because none of them are even though Syracuse’s unbeaten record, like Wichita State’s, is clearly schedule-aided.

February 13: News Headlines Digest • Feb 13, 2014 04:30 PM

Also, I have to admit that watching this freshmen group develop, slightly increases my appreciation for Cal is doing with Freshmen year in and year out. Just slightly, though.

February 13: News Headlines Digest • Feb 13, 2014 04:28 PM

2011-2012 team was the only team I can recall that had the ability to shoot 10-20% trifect and still possibly win the game. They were really special--Tyshawn & TRob just had amazing will power. Took us all the way to the title game with Ty having not been able to even make threes in a dome. Wasn't he like 1/27 at one point?

I'm afraid they will revert back to the tickytack foul calling in the tournament and that is going cause a lot of problems.

Is There a Bounty on KU OADs? • Feb 13, 2014 04:09 PM

@jaybate 1.0 why would that be an irreverent question? Also, who cares if they are ready for anything as long as they can take that million dollar payday. Isn't that the only thing that matters? It's not like long term improvement and development, or lack thereof, has any impact on financial risk and growth.

Also: RE your Hedge Row thread the other day was a great read. I really enjoyed it. Although I am not a fan of Military History at all, your post made me believe that I should be because the strategy and tactics can be applied to life, which you illustrated by relating it to the basketball battlefield. Nice job.

FLOOR BURN AWARD: KU @ KSU - Feb 10 • Feb 13, 2014 05:11 AM

whoops, sorry...I didn't see the KSU or Texas game.

@oldhawk I can definitely appreciate where you are coming from, and I agree Jim is the reason the D is so effective and consistent, but I was kind of looking from the x & o standpoint.

@ict its not that i have given up on them :-) They definitely have the make up to win 6 in a row, I"m just not counting on it as I do some years.

I definitely agree on the SOS for WSU and Florida. We'll see how they play Kentucky here soon.

FLOOR BURN AWARD: KU @ KSU - Feb 10 • Feb 12, 2014 06:28 PM

Nice thread, guys. The only comment I want to make about floor burns is that I cannot recall Wiggins hitting the Deck one time this year. Can you?

Just a short topic here but I'm curious to hear who our NC picks are right now and why on earth is Syracuse the dominant zone team in the country year after year? I am resolved to the hawks not making the FF, and along that thought, I'm also deciding on Billy D as my favorite coach and Florida winning it all this year. Looking forward to your opinions.

February 12: News Headlines Digest • Feb 12, 2014 04:14 PM

Bill is soft for not making Tyler suit up and play through injury, too :-)

February 12: News Headlines Digest • Feb 12, 2014 02:28 PM

This team typically stays healthy and that is a credit to hudy for her conditioning and selfs don't be a pussy mentality. The latter isn't always positive but if you think about it Kansas hasn't really suffered any injuries, save Josh Selby, that truly affected the season. I guess this year the ying to that yang is finally coming around.

February 11: News Headlines Digest • Feb 11, 2014 11:04 PM

When is the last time a defending big 12 champ or any conference champ for that matter stormed the court the following season? Probably never.

February 11: News Headlines Digest • Feb 11, 2014 11:00 PM

@joeloveshawks the fact that his injury has lead to less production and even worse: another related injury it's at least 4 weeks before he is back to normal. Pure speculation on my part. When I sprained my knee it affected me for 9 months before I was 100% I didn't have the rehab and resources he will have though. He has clearly lost 15-20 percent of his quickness. This is not the time for Jamari to be getting benched. We win last night if he plays.

February 11: News Headlines Digest • Feb 11, 2014 10:34 PM

I'm blown away as to how accurate high elite major and jAYBATE were on their injury assessment before Self admitted it. Tried concealing it to prevent s slide in draft status? See Nerlens Noel for proof the injury wouldn't have mattered. Playing him injured compounded the issue.

Brannen is a thief. 3 steals in limited time. Love it. We need him. Playing like this

February 11: News Headlines Digest • Feb 11, 2014 06:03 PM

Btw I actually enjoy the expanded line up and felt certain we woukd gas ksu in the last 10 minutes due to our depth. Didn't happen.

Losing to ksu is always a good litmus test of where my heart has always been.

February 11: News Headlines Digest • Feb 11, 2014 05:51 PM

Why is HEM reply to me show up looking as if I posted it. I'm confused. Having to access from small mobile device lately so maybe I'm not seeing everything. But it looks like Hem posted from Blown to Blown.

HEM. I just have gotten a sense this year that self is way more fluid with his lineup substitution than I have noticed in the past. It reminds me of the NBA when coaches exploit match ups more than sticking to same 5

February 11: News Headlines Digest • Feb 11, 2014 03:31 PM

@Blown Working on his NBA substitution pattern? What do you mean?

As an aside not directed at you Blown: When Bill plays 9 guys we (KU fans) say he needs to trim the roster down to a core group of players so they can get the most experience and chemistry playing together. That depth isn't very important in the tournament due to all the tv timeouts.

When Bill plays 6-7 guys we complain that Bill isn't developing his bench and is running off talent. What if someone gets hurt in a 7 man lineup? Then we complain that the bench wasn't developed.

This year there is an incredible amount of talent sitting on the bench. Frankamp, Greene, and White all deserve minutes, but who do you take them from. Who's development should be slowed to help bench depth? Selden? Wiggins, he's gone next year anyway?

Self went with Mason early because he is the only aggressive guard KU has. Unfortunately, Frank is not a good shot and misses 2 out of 3 layups, on average.

I still have high hopes for this team if KU gets their rim protector back healthy. If Embiid can't play at a high level KU continues to give up uncontested layups and is bounced in the second round of the tournament. If Embiid plays at a high level the final four is within reach. If Tharpe learns how to play D, Wiggins gets aggressive all the right times, everyone gets healthy, and Ellis rebounds and plays D well; KU will be National Champs. That's a lot of if's.

At this point in time I'd have to say next year looks like the year to go to Vegas and put money on the 'Hawks to win it all. There just isn't enough experience and leadership to go with the talent on this season's team. That could change, but my hopes of cutting down the nets are diminishing as fast as KU's chances of a 1 seed.

February 11: News Headlines Digest • Feb 11, 2014 02:05 PM

Had to Bob Davis the game last night en route to ioway. I probably turned the radio on and off 60 times. Had to take a trip to Dallas the week of the Texas loss. Telling bossman no more travel during game weeks.

Is there much to talk about on this one? Almost pulled it off shooting 10% trifecta and a depleted front line.

Looking forward to reading ya'lls analytics.

February 5: News Headlines Digest • Feb 05, 2014 04:18 PM

How many teams have 4/5 starters that have gone off for 20+ points in a game on multiple occassions? And the 5th starter JoJo has come within a bucket of 20 pts multiple occasions. This team is so balanced. I only wish they could be as good of thieves as that core from 2005_2008. In 5-6 they averaged 10 steals and 9 the other 2 seasons. Maybe that is what projects killer
instinct more than anything...

February 2: News Headlines Digest • Feb 02, 2014 04:04 PM

I hope you had heat approx. Very, very sorry if you didn't.

January 29: News Headlines Digest • Jan 29, 2014 04:39 PM

@KansasComet I believe Lucas has that special ability to know where the ball is going to bounce off the rim and get to the best spot for rebounds. If he gets 15 minutes tonight I hope I'm proven right.

January 29: News Headlines Digest • Jan 29, 2014 03:05 PM

I hate playing Iowa state. That is all.

@dylans Yes, Sir. I Understand and I Will Obey, Sir.

@RockChalkinTexas That is his Seat. He sits in that one when he is in town.

Therefore, we have to reserve harsh judgement of UK till then.

Thanks for challenging me to improve the way I think about situations by taking more into consideration than I may be in the habit of.

RE: Wichita--they are going to be best served with a chip on their shoulder. They are in dangerous water right now. Marshall has a new element to manage, and that is the "expectation" element. He's always been able to serve up the underdog speech to his team, even this year after making it to the FF last year, he was able to dish out the "no respect" card. That's all starting to change, and will cause ego inflation.

If he does manage the egos and the expectations through the remainder of the season, the University of Texas will be calling him in to replace Rick Barnes.

REHawk, no problem. I'm sorry I didn't explain it better so it could have taken you less time to complete.

Slayr-as soon as a team beats Kansas, I want them to go undefeated for the remainder of the season to bolster KU's SOS. But, I also like a little Karma once in a while, too!

@drgnslayr RE Kentucky--I get the feeling that Kentucky is just barely holding themselves together when I watch them play. Are the officially not the best freshman class ever, now?

Is this the table to find all the action today :)

slayr, I loved your alternate idea for Wiggins to open up his game. The issue I take with it is that I think he can add the rim finishing to his game more quickly than he can a step back jumper. And don't forget, Kobe stole all of Jordans moves :)

The outside game will come with his time in the League, but as far is the single biggest improvement he can make in college is his mental toughness to finish around the rim.

Jan 20: Post-game Roundup - KU vs Baylor • Jan 21, 2014 10:22 PM

@JayHawkFanToo he would have had to leapt from within the inbounds boundary for that to not be out of bounds. If you jump from out of bounds and touch the ball, its out of bounds. If out of bounds, you have to re establish your inbounds position before touching the ball, if I understand the rule correctly.

@HighEliteMajor Yes, Coach :-)

@Crimsonorblue22 yes, one more check up tomorrow to see if they will require surgery or not. my wife wouldnt let me play pick up last night. She said "are you crazy?" I didn't answer. I"'m saving up good behavior time so I can continue to whimsically leave for trips to the Phog.
