Put juando back in
Need to take more of an advantage of that triple team on wilson
We ought to be up 20
Ku gets all the calls, haven’t you heard?
@wissox booing and chanting stuff at ku players
Good way to test the hammy, Yes!
Wvu fans about to lose it
Best mid range shooting team we’ve ever had imo
Throwing pebbles into the ocean right now.
We’re hitting some threes!
@wissox said in Bill Self the GOAT:
@DanR Illinois' near national championship team was nearly all Illinois kids. Deron Williams the one exception.
You don't have to go too far south from Chicago to get into some serious racist ass-backward country. I grew up in west central Illinois.
Dee Brown was the only significant guy Self brought to that F4 team. I was just saying that Rose, Parker and Okafor weren't interested in playing for Self anywhere. He probably had a better shot at those guys at KU than at UofI. Maybe if Self had a couple natties by the time Parker and Okafor were old enough they would have thought about it, but we got Cliff Alexander instead of Okafor.
As for KU:
Sheron Collins, Jamari Traylor (my favorite) and Cliff Alexander... probably a few others... Mario Little...?
Bill Self is a footnote in the BIG like Bobby Knight is a footnote in the Big 12. Both guys would've been huge winners in either conference though if they coached a career there.
I don't know if you could build a basketball dynasty at Illinois with Chicago kids. Weird. It's not that far from Chicago, but it's a different planet. I don't think many of those players you mentioned would have wanted to play for Bill Self regardless of where he was coaching.

@BShark 100% they wanted Zach to seize the 5 spot.
I’ve been saying for at least a year the C/O 23 is behind because of Covid. Especially the bigs. There are obviously exceptions (e.g. Gradey) but by and large there aren’t a lot of impact freshmen this year. Rice, Udeh, and even Zuby to some degree were less prepared for a The Bill Self Experience than other, similarly ranked freshmen in previous years.
Don't Udeh and Zuby seem prepared about the same as Big Dave was as Frosh? I remember liking Dave's hustle, but he was, as @approxinfinity described, "our wild giant" as a first year player. Doke was just a dunk machine for a couple years while he broke all his hands, and it finally clicked for him in his junior year that he had to set screens and be in certain places in the offense... and then his D really became dominant his senior year. TRob usually picked up 4 fouls in 10 minutes and barely saw the court his first year. I expect both Udeh and Zuby to be really solid players by year three for sure. One of them will probably be ready to start next year if KJ moves to the 4.
I have no clue if Rice's actually has developmental issues, if he was just overhyped, or is a typical first year guy in Bill's system that can't use his high school athleticism to cover his lack of bb IQ. If McCullar hadn't transferred in, I suppose we'd be learning more and complaining about Rice's potential.

Kevin got robbed of a charge, ref even started the motion of calling it! On Pop's last drive which ended up with him and bobby on the floor he stuck his Rt forearm into bobby which caused them both to fall. I think Wilson's man was trying to clear Wilson out for Pop. JMO.
That's exactly what happened. Wilson's guy (Batcho) was trying to back him out of the paint to clear the lane for Pop and he fell on his ass
What was the missed foul on KU? Wilson getting pushed?
Ha ha, F tech
KJ killed a man
OK, make the next one
Hmmm. Wilson drives?
ice kev
About five fouls on that last oKU offensive possession.
TO
Dick time
Yes, tech fans, that's a foul.
Gotta Focus here in the next couple possessions
good for Kevin to know what KU goes through EVERY away conference game
missed a few on that possession
NICE feed to Kev
You can tell Self wants this one for Kevin. As many times as Bill had had to go back to stillwater, he gets it
Refs on the same page as the home crowd regarding Kev. He can't move without picking up a foul at this point.
YIKES, KJ
time for a run
nice pass and finish Jwill and Pman
Larry Bird sighting
Kstate will probably still lose this game to Texas
Would be hard to imagine a 4-year KU guy transferring, but if Big Dave showed up in a Kstate uniform this year, I might have been conflicted. Still wouldn't have boo'd the guy though in AFH
Kev is going to drain a couple threes to shut the homers up
charge, FFS refs
rotation was blown big time
weak. Does tech ever foul?
I want one more year of Harris, then I want to see him in the NBA. If we by chance win a nattie this year, I'd like to see him go pro. Dude is just incredible.
LOL
Hero tech guy is going to blow this
KJ is still getting snuffed on some jams, but lordy that guy is a beast. He's getting more comfortable by the game.
KJ has dominated the last couple minutes
@Jethro My dad kind of looked like him back in the 70s
KJ!
Basketball savvy tech fans booing everything
other than fouls, a pretty even game stat-wise. Can Tech shoot 50% from three for an entire game?
Amazing how KJ is adapting to his size and muscle
