@globaljaybird

I am always leery of developers that claim that the increase in sales tax will pay for the project. It never does.

RIP Coach Smith • Feb 09, 2015 11:00 PM

@jaybate-1.0

I agree with you. One of these day we should have another thread on Coach Smith and his legacy vis-a-vis KU.

Frank's Number.... • Feb 08, 2015 07:04 PM

@nuleafjhawk

Yes, I am sure Frank could play playground BBall all day long by Division I is on a different level all together and the physical wear and tear is considerably larger at that level.

The main problem I see with Mason is that in HS he was the "go to" player and a volume shooter/scorer. We saw that often last year when he went into the scorer mode with poor results. This year we saw a Mason that was more of a play maker first and scorer second and it worked out very well because, not only made the team better, but also gave him easier ways to score, particularly from the 3. Yesterday I saw Mason reverting to his "score first mode, play maker second" and it did nor bide well for KU or Mason.

I need some advice • Feb 08, 2015 06:43 PM

@DoubleDD

Junior College followed by a transfer to a bigger schools is an excellent option. Most JuCos in Kansas will tailor the program to her major and the school to which she wants to transfer so she doesn't lose credits in the process. She would get an Associate's degree after her fist two years but her primary degree (Bachelor) would come from KU; most schools require at least 60 credits (2 years) in residence to obtain a degree. She seem to be a superior student and as such, she would likely be eligible for a number of academic scholarships and also there is financial aid available depending on income.

She should visit KU and meet with Admissions to determine if a comparable package can be made available at KU. Also, HS have counselors that have a up to date information on what is available at the next level and should be able to provide at least preliminary information.

Time for me to go and replace the fuel pressure sensor on the Expedition and remove the spare tire that is rusted against the hub...yeap, that pounding will do me good.

KU vs Okie State game chat • Feb 07, 2015 09:19 PM

I don't think it was the game plan. You don't plan to miss layup, missed free throws and not block on rebounding under your own basket...just poor execution by the players. Greene is a great spot 3 point shooter but he cannot score on drives or create his own shot.

They are rushing the court...no pride...

KU vs Okie State game chat • Feb 07, 2015 08:05 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

KU 11, OSU 9.

Mason 3, Perry 2, Traylor 2, Lucas 2, Ouibre 1, Alexander 1

Cobbins 2, Nash 2, others 1 a piece.

Mason is the biggest concern, The "T" was bad...I wonder what he said; Travis Ford was acting as it was directed at him...

KU vs Okie State game chat • Feb 07, 2015 08:00 PM

OK. so far...so good...

I will be sure to check the site...

KU build a lead and OSU makes a late run but never really gets close; KU by8-10. Ellis has as solid game and Greene could also have field day.

@icthawkfan316

Calipari strongly disagrees with you. He sells the program on the exposure they get and the contacts they make; this is something that nobody has been able to match and he ends up with 10 McD All Americans, same for Duke and his contacts with the NBA via the US National Team, and to a lesser extent KU. Look at Kentucky, every single player would be the top star at most every other school and yet players are sacrificing playing time for the exposure and contacts the get at UK. You cannot underestimate the ego of HS sports stars; in many ways, it is that ego that makes them good. I guess we just agree to disagree?

TGIF in Hell • Feb 07, 2015 06:37 PM

@icthawkfan316

Ditto for me. I guess many of us got the same request. On professional forums I post with my own name, on sports forums, I prefer the anonymity as I have heard horror stories resulting from using your real name. My Facebook account is restricted to very close friends and family and I would not want it invaded by trolls.

I go to the other forum occasionally to read stories and look at game pictures; Nick Krug is excellent.

Recruiting • Feb 07, 2015 02:37 AM

@icthawkfan316

I am referring to the less heralded players that bloom in college and it take longer to get discovered because they do not have the exposure. Look at player like Damon Lillard, not highly recruited out of HS who ended up at Weber State where he played for 4 years and was drafted #6...don't you think that had he had the exposure of a big program maybe he would have gone sooner?

Top ranked players have big egos and want to have attention and be on National TV often; don't you think that it is a big part of the Allure of Kentucky? or KU? or Duke? or ...you get the idea...This is something that smaller programs cannot offer and it is a big selling point for elite programs.

Tomorrow There Will Be No Love Lost. • Feb 07, 2015 12:26 AM

@Crimsonorblue22

No doubt. Gallagher Iba Arena is consider one of the better and louder college basketball venues...not at the level of AFH but still...

Recruiting • Feb 07, 2015 12:23 AM

@icthawkfan316

And the other two player from UNLV drafted in the last 10 years before Bennett are Joel Anthony in 2008 and Louis Amundson in 2007. UNLV has not been a hotbed for NBA prospects recently, at least not the powerhouse (and NCAA PITA) it used to be under Tarkanian.

The exposure you get playing for an elite program cannot be discounted. Just sayin'

@wrwlumpy

Much like the NBA, Euro leagues also buy potential. He played in one of the bottom teams in one of the bottom leagues, and if he were to join one of the top leagues/teams, he would also ride the bench until his game has developed. Ricky Rubio started the same way and was locked into a long term contract that kept him with Barcelona of the Spanish League for a while and he had to eventually buy out of his contract (with a little help from the Wolves). I see Svi pretty much the same way. If colleges could lock players in long term contracts, don't you think KU would sign Svi even if he would not initially play much? Kid is only 17.

I would encourage you to watch some Euro basket sometime (lots of on-line streams); I believe you would be surprised.

Random ?s • Feb 06, 2015 09:39 PM

@wrwlumpy

Svi played for Cherkaski Mavpy of the #13 ranled Ukrainian Basketball Super League from 2012 to 2014. Kaun plays for CSKA Moscow of the #2 ranked VTB United League ( formerly Russian Premier League). They both also play for their respective National Teams. I understand that Svi could play for just about any League in Europe, including the #1 ranked Spanish League.

Recruiting • Feb 06, 2015 08:52 PM

@konkeyDong

The exposure you get at KU is considerably more than what you get at UNLV, not only because the Big 12 is a better conference, but the time difference does not work well with the sport press which is by and large East Coast based.

UK makes me jealous? • Feb 05, 2015 11:55 PM

@benshawks08

Here is a bit of trivia...

AFH is the Cathedral of Basketball and while it is owned by the University it belong to all Jayhawk fans and is revered by basketball fans all over.

Rupp Arena is not owned by the University of Kentucky, it is owned by an agency of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government; UK is simply a tenant. If UK ever builds an arena of its own...and since the Rupp name is taken, what will they call it? The Squid Dome? The Probation Center? *PS&C Arena?

*PS&C = Point Shaving and Cheating

Yeap, malice intended.
