'consistently losing to 10-15 seed teams in the NCAA's '

Hmm, that's a familiar thread...

@nuleafjhawk

'Thank Sherron and Mario, not BS.'

That's what Coach BS himself did--remember the pre-game speech?

Still speaks volumes...

Oh, and btw, at least Roy's teams knew how to run a fast break. When Bill's teams get a fast break, more often than not, they screw it up.

@nuleafjhawk
'I'm wondering how that's possible.' Amen.

'His teams don't seem prepared or motivated.' Amen to that too.

Great post, as usual, HEM. After routing Utah in the first half, Bill almost gave the game away by making the boys play 'his' game. NCAA Tournament deja vu all over again.

Luckily, Brannen looks like he's ready to step up and be a real scoring stud. I thought from the beginning of last year that he had the purest stroke of any of our shooters and now he's starting to show it. And although I'm still a bit disappointed in his lack of movement on offense to get himself open, his confidence and body language on his free throws late in the game was almost awe inspiring. It was like the free throw was a forgone conclusion and he was already thinking about the next play. Gotta love that kind of confidence.

KU Coaching Staff to Pose Nude...NOT • Dec 10, 2014 09:38 AM

So if the coaching staff is going to pose nude, does that mean Bill is going to pose sans toupee?

We should thank this KU team • Dec 07, 2014 11:40 AM

You guys do realize that Florida came into this game shorthanded with only seven scholarship players and actually had to play a walk-on considerable minutes...

And the comeback (that never should have been necessary) was achieved not by playing Bill Self's offense, but by Wayne taking it upon himself to play his own game, namely, beating his man off the dribble and pulling up for the mid range shot. Remember the mid range shot, Bill?

Mid range shooting • Nov 21, 2014 05:22 PM

@drgnslayr I thought Frank was actually one of the bright spots for KU. He seemed to consistently be able to take advantage of the overplay and get the ball in the paint (remember what Bill said about TT's ability to get in the paint). Now he just needs to learn, or be coached (Bill?) what to do when he gets there, like dish to a big, pull up midrange, or kick out for an open 3

Mid range shooting • Nov 21, 2014 05:03 PM

@MoonwalkMafia Did you notice how tightly our three point shooters were guarded outside the arc? Greene didn't even get off a shot and Svi only got a couple uncontested looks. Okay, this guy's not gonna shoot inside the arc, so guard him tight in 3pt range. And their bigs aren't gonna look to score outside seven feet, so stay in the paint. Pretty simple. And they say Cal can't coach, lol. That's three straight (convincingly) over Bill. The game has moved on.

And btw, by the end of this year, coupled with last, I bet that glowing 82 number will have tarnished quite a bit.

Mid range shooting • Nov 21, 2014 10:09 AM

Bill Self has never cultivated the mid-range shot as part of his game plan. I first noticed this during the 08 season, when it seemed the whole offense was 3 pointers and alley-oops. That's all those guys needed, cuz they were all studs. But I nearly pulled my hair out Tuesday late in the game when Landon got the ball eight feet out and didn't even look to score. Seriously, if you're more than seven feet out, you're gonna look for someone to pass to? Pathetic. And extremely easy to defend.

Taking a deep breath after KU-UK debacle • Nov 19, 2014 06:59 PM

@KUSTEVE Yeah, Bill's offense sucks.

So, in a nutshell, the Big 12 sucks. In fact, it sucks so bad, they can't even get twelve teams to join the conference named The Big 12. rotflmfao

Anyone who wouldn't trade 10 Conference titles for 3 National titles is just plain nuts. Or just a small town guy who should never leave the city limits.

How good has the Big 12 been really? • Aug 20, 2014 10:08 AM

@icthawkfan316 Ha! Welcome aboard ict! I've been posting that exact point for 4 or 5 years. Any conference that can be dominated by one team for 10 years is by definition, lame. Add to that, almost no Final Four appearances for that stretch (I think Oklahoma State made an appearance early in Bill's KU career) and you have to wonder how anyone could consider this a "power conference."

It's always gratifying to check in to the boards and see good posters picking up on points I made years ago. What's not gratifying is seeing the Jayhawks continually underachieve in the tournament. Hard to get excited about this team anymore.

HEM-I agree with your basic idea about the 3pointers, but I don't think its necessary to settle on one (unless you're "I'll never change" Bill Self). We've got three great outside shooters & Bill said each could win 3 or 4 games for us, but he shows no faith in them. And your point about coming off the bench cold and being expected to heat it up (Vinnie Johnson, anyone?) is spot on. Greene seemed to be in Bill's doghouse until he got desperate in the Villanova game, but he looks like the best pure shooter of the bunch. And what does Bill do but hammer down on him as soon as he does what he's in the game to do. And Bill still insists on running the offense through the post (Tarik Black?)

I'm just sick of seeing us lose big games to less talented, uninhibited, freewheeling three point shooting teams while our guys all choke up and look over to the bench every time they even think about raising a three.

I've been thinking the same thing as JayDoc--what if Bill's system ends up dropping Andrew from the #1 pick status and literally costs him money? Do you think that's gonna be lost on any coach recruiting against us? Coach K tailored his offense around Jabari. Coach Cal obviously showcases his top dogs. There's a track record developing for other coaches to point to when recruiting against us.

Here's another hypothetical--how long til Andrew gets frustrated with Bill's system and begins to phone it in from the perimeter (Like Xavier)? Could be wrong, but I'm already sensing some frustration from his demeanor and body language.

Postgame Round-up: Villanova 63 Kansas 59 • Nov 30, 2013 09:34 AM

Bill Self's half court offense sucks. It always has. He has (at least) 4 future NBA players on the court and they can't even put 60 points on the board. At some points, they struggle to even get off a shot. And yet, in post game, he still puts it on the defense--"we didn't defend on that last shot"

They held them to 63 points Bill. What do you want? Your half court offense sucks.
