ESPN has turned into something abhorrent, with a focus on negativity and drama, and heavy biases towards certain programs. Here we elaborate on their issues and discuss reasons why.
Here’s something someone wrote from 2015 about why ESPN sucks.
That’s old news now, but I am curious… ESPN knew in 2015 that their subscribers were down 7.2% since 2011. Of course this fueled the onward march into on demand sports and mobile, and now the relationship with sling TV and move to a la carte… But how much has this shaped their story arcs? Do they deliberately look for tragic heroes of the white variety? Do they downplay the success of good teams in small markets? While we obviously have speculated about this and certainly the proof is in the product, unfortunately that data is mostly qualitative. Is there someone who has quantified the number of times Duke is mentioned in other teams broadcasts? Is there leak about the story line decision making? a smoking gun?
Also, there is a decent Wikipedia article out there with criticisms of ESPN. Maybe we can elaborate a little there on our concerns. I saw that they said ESPN was biased toward Kentucky and Calipari for instance. I wonder if we might be able to illustrate a connection between Nike, Duke, and ESPN and add something about the love for Duke. It seems a bit silly that they’ve called out Kentucky but not Duke, as they’ve been sweet on Duke since Laettner. Im curious why that is not already in the article.
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, responding to Under Armour's CEO calling President Donald Trump an "asset" to the United States earlier this week, jokingly told The Mercury News that he agreed -- if you remove "the ET from asset."
On Tuesday, Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank expressed support for Trump in a CNBC interview, saying: "To have such a pro-business president is something that is a real asset for the country."
The comments quickly became a hot topic on social media, with a hashtag calling for a boycott of the company. Plank released a statement Wednesday clarifying his comments, saying they were from a business perspective and not reflective of the company's social stance.
"I spent all day yesterday on the phone, with countless people at Under Armour, countless people in Kevin Plank's camp, my team, trying to understand what was going on and where everybody stood on the issue," Curry told The Mercury News on Wednesday. "Based off the release that KP sent out this morning and what he told me last night, that's the Under Armour that I know. That's the brand I know he's built and one that, as of Wednesday afternoon, is something that I'm standing on."
"...If I can say the leadership is not in line with my core values, then there is no amount of money, there is no platform I wouldn't jump off if it wasn't in line with who I am. So that's a decision I will make every single day when I wake up."
I thought that last quote was interesting. I read that as "every day I wake up and think about whether my life is in line with my core values". While noble, certainly, it does beg the question if he is troubled by his business relationships, to be thinking about them every day.
Remember during the finals when Currys wife lashed out at the officiating and then backed off, citing her husband's endorsements as the main reason why? Just think how many more athletes might be activists if their endorsement money wasn't silencing them.

I'll be honest, the cutesy names and helicopter dad as their coach and running up their personal stats makes me despise them without ever having watched them. I've deliberately avoided all three of them. And it makes it easier for me to smugly believe from my self-induced bubble that my POY candidate is a greater person, and a greater player than some PAC-12 punk.
@drgnslayr I was amazed in reviewing the stats from last game that I think Devonte shot 50% for 10 points 7 Reb and 6 assists. It seems to me that our expectations for devonte might still be so high that some games he's being the glue we need and we aren't giving him any credit for it.
