With a team featuring Black, White and Greene, wouldn't a KU vs. MSU championship match up have a fun angle?

Of course, this is the best reason for not REDshirting Greene. :-p

Cliff Alexander Announcement • Oct 28, 2013 06:12 AM

Interesting that he doesn't mention Kentucky here.. While we don't have a lot of luck with the televised announcements, you gotta wonder if this one might be different...

Cliff Alexander Announcement • Oct 28, 2013 06:09 AM

from Oct 28 article:
Cliff Alexander, a 6-8 senior from Chicago’s Curie High, has switched his decision date from Nov. 16 to Nov. 15, Zagsblog.com reports. He will announce on ESPN. No. 4-rated Alexander, who visited Illinois last weekend, has a list of KU, Illinois, DePaul, Memphis and Michigan State.

“We had a great time like all the other visits,” Alexander’s mother, Latillia, said of the Illinois visit to SNY.tv and zagsblog.com. “The coaching staff was great. They really make you feel like a family, and that plays an important part in our decision. I need to know that my son is going to be taken care of on and off the court. He might just be Cliff Alexander to most people, but he’s still my baby.”

“You would think that Tarik (Black), Perry (Ellis), Wayne (Selden), Andrew (Wiggins) and Naadir (Tharpe) would probably have a head start on everybody, because that’s kind of how we’ve viewed it, and that’s kind of how they’ve been since the first day,” KU coach Bill Self said Sunday at his Assists Foundation’s Fall Festival and Equipment Drive at Abe & Jake’s Landing.

Lots of anticipation about the upcoming season of BBall from Eamonn Brennan in this article ↗

This season, there are at least five candidates out of the gate, all of them marquee programs with national name recognition. Tom Izzo has his most well-rounded and talented Michigan State team since ... well, maybe ever. Duke might play its most beautiful basketball ever. Louisville is coming off a national title and, even with Chane Behanan suspended until who-knows-when, returns the best two-way player in the country last season in Russ Smith. Kentucky could be one of the best college basketball teams ever, period. And the ranks below them are loaded with great players (Marcus Smart, Doug McDermott), intriguing programs (VCU, Wichita State) and loads of stylistic diversity.

And then there is Kansas. And then there is Andrew Wiggins.

Message of The Day Quotes • Oct 28, 2013 04:21 AM

Possibly apocryphal.. but entertaining nonetheless:

"Ain't no seats."

KU BBall Sucks! (FIRE DRILL) • Oct 26, 2013 06:47 AM

It would be interesting to have a sort of 'troll meter' under the avatar that is fueled by members punching a "thumbs down" button (sort of the opposite of the 'Favourite' button). Eventually, the combination of members not engaging and the 'scarlet letter' would probably send the trolls packing.

KU Sports - Oct 25: Legendary Embiid • Oct 26, 2013 06:26 AM

This article: Coaches not impressed by Larry Brown’s SMU ↗, featured the following entertaining Embiid tweets:

Joel Embiid, KU’s 7-foot freshman from Cameroon, on Oct. 18 posted on Twitter that he was a lion hunter as a youth.

“Hey y all I KILLED A LION when I was young and my teammates don t believe me,” Embiid tweeted.

Indeed, senior teammate Niko Roberts re-tweeted Embiid’s boast post with the hashtag, #LiesToldByAfricans.

After last Saturday’s scrimmage, he tweeted, “Thanks to the KU Fans for coming and I don t get dunked on.” His hashtag was the hilarious, jojosaysnonono.

Another Embiid tweet: “I m the best rapper under 20 (rap in French not English).”

And another: “This weather..... If tomorrow is colder than today, I'll go back to Africa.”

I think that's great cj.. In addition, I hope folks in this community will post links to sites that stream the games for those that either live in blackout areas or without alternative access.

I know many will be on ESPN3.. but a good number are not.

KU Sports - Oct 25: Keegan on Wayne Selden • Oct 25, 2013 05:13 AM

Keegan got this quote and wrote an article around it:

Mike DeCourcy of The Sporting News, not a man given to hyperbole, wrote this after watching a Kansas basketball practice: “Selden is the hardest-practicing freshman I’ve encountered in more than a quarter-century on the college basketball beat.”

These kinds of bone-headed business decisions are more common than we all might think. If your wondering why smart people can make such bad decisions, you might want to check out a new book Customers Included ↗.

It's really about customer experience, but written for business executives... Lots of examples of colossal flops and failures from all types of businesses -- including the Google Wave and the Netflix debacle a few years ago when they tried to make customers pay separately for the streaming business and DVD by mail business.

What the JW has done could easily fit into one of the chapters...

Who are you? • Oct 24, 2013 10:34 PM

Like many of you, I have been fascinated by this running discussion regarding the JW's policy changes.

At the root of it is a concern that anonymity leads to uncivil discourse. So, they have chosen to use Facebook registration as a means to force users to disclose who they are.

Obviously, there are holes in this approach.

  1. Just because a community is anonymous doesn't mean it will engage in uncivil discourse.
  2. Just because a community is not anonymous doesn't mean it will engage in civil discourse.
  3. A Facebook account does not guarantee accurate identity of a user.

By the way, did anyone else find the irony of protecting the anonymity of the reporter who asked the stupid question?

Is it a stretch to compare the need to protect a reporter's identity with the desire of a community contributor to remain anonymous?

Do reporters deserve a form of identity protection that customers do not? That would seem like a double standard.

Fran Fracshilla interviews Andrew Wiggins - Video ↗

Kansas City, Mo. — Kansas University freshman sensation Andrew Wiggins needed to finish one interview before taking his seat at a table with teammates Perry Ellis, Naadir Tharpe and Tarik Black at Big 12 Men’s Basketball Media Day on Tuesday in Sprint Center.

Not getting the memo regarding the delay ... one of two dozen reporters mistook 6-foot-9, 260-pound senior center Black for the 6-8, 200-pound Wiggins, asking him how he likes playing at KU....

Bill Self can’t comment on specific recruits in accordance with NCAA rules.

Kansas University’s 11th-year basketball coach can, however, speak in generalities about the fact that he and his powerhouse sales staff of Kurtis Townsend, Norm Roberts and Jerrance Howard have been on a hot streak in the pursuit of top players.

“We are involved with more high-level guys than what we’ve been involved with before,” Self acknowledged.

This year’s freshman class, for example, is headlined by Rivals.com’s No. 1 player....
