Thoughts on the Game? • Nov 03, 2016 12:20 PM

@JayHawkFanToo But, even a triple double wouldn't have been an official record. Maybe just an asterick. I just see Coach Self and staff leaving Frank in longer than needed and due to his all-out style of play, placing him at risk in a decided and of no consequence game.

Yes, this wasn't our best game; lots of room for improvement. But, what was Mason doing in the game with 2 minutes left to play and a lead of 18+? Coach Self is doing the same thing as last year: leaving Mason on the court after the game has been decided. For Mason's own sake and the future benefit of the team, Mason's minutes need to be limited. I know Frank wants to be out there. I know we play much better with Frank in the game. But, please have the coaching discipline to limit Frank's minutes. We will desperately need Frank at full speed and health in March. This was an exhibition game against Washburn. Where are we if Frank gets injured in a meaningless game? Twelve to fourteen minutes would have been enough for Frank to be ready for Indiana and Duke.

I just looked at the box score and see that Frank logged 32 minutes. The most of any player on either team.

If you haven't been to a game in Norman, it is a fun environment and is not hostile to opposing fans. In my experience, you may wear KU gear at all away games and not be jeered or worse, except K State and Missouri. I'd like to think that games at KU are friendly to opposing fans. I hope everyone attending our games makes it a point to be friendly or at least not be openly hostile to opposing fans. After all, they are spending money in Lawrence.

Last week, the O State fans wore their orange and sat all over the place in Memorial stadium-even in the middle of the student section. I admit though, I liked attending games better when everyone around me supported KU and all the opposing fans sat together in another section. RCJH

@wrwlumpy I really appreciate your contributions to this site. Any chance you could share your talents on the football site? A few of us are following the football team. We certainly need some inspiration about now. RCJH

NEW BASKETBALL RULES • Oct 26, 2016 01:53 PM

@wrwlumpy The Staten travel that allowed West Virginia to win still sticks with me all these months later. I don't understand why officials calling the games at Morgantown give such an advantage to the home team. Every time we play there it seems like there is a bias toward the Mountaineers. Last year, the year of the sweltering double teams, few fouls were called against the home team, but everything was called against us. We need a win in Morgantown to get the perceived bias out of my mind.

Reviewing the homecoming loss • Oct 24, 2016 01:41 PM

I was disappointed that Coach Beaty chose to go with Cozart. The offense looked the same as with Willis. Our running game worked better Saturday, but not because of Cozart. We are better off sticking with Willis and letting him learn to stop turning the ball over. I was at the game and have the left-side sunburn to prove it. I can't seem to remember to use sunscreen-at least on my left side.

We are competitive with the O State's and really were in this game until Gonzalez failed to catch the wide open pass in the third quarter and tipped it off his helmet right to a D back. Every game seems to have this game changing moment. Unfortunately, the moments have all gone against us thus far. If Gonzalez caught that pass and scored, the defense would have been energized and we had a good chance of winning. That one goofy, tragic play that left O State deep in our territory took the energy out of our defense.

I'm satisfied that Coach Beaty is still experimenting with personnel on offense. At least he's trying something different. He's still got a long ways to go before he's decent at play calling. It's a learning year for everyone on the team, including Coach Beaty. Maybe, I'll remember the sunscreen for the Iowa State game. RCJH

@ParisHawk I'm sorry if I misread your earlier comment. I would like to see Coach Self and staff place strict limits on the starting guards' minutes, like the pitch limits in baseball and the 13 minute limit the Sixers are placing on our man, Embiid. Toward the end of each season Coach Self states he played certain players too many minutes. I know the players want to be in the game, but it's up to the coaches to set limits. Frank's minutes need to be reduced due to his aggressive style of play. I thought Vick could have picked up a lot more minutes in decided games last year. RCJH

@Lulufulu K State and Iowa State are both beatable, but they are both playing better football than we played against Baylor. We will need a better game than we played against TCU to beat K State and Iowa State. Lots to work on Coach Beaty. I hope the work on stopping turnovers started in the locker room right after the game.

@ParisHawk Thirty- eight minutes is too many minutes per game for Frank and DeVonte, especially Frank. Coach Self, please tell me this is the year you limit our starting guards' minutes, at least until the tournament. Every year, Coach Self admits he played Frank too many minutes. Please set the limit at 28 minutes per starting guard. We have plenty of quality minutes on the bench, so let's use them. RCJH

@nuleafjhawk I don't think you are giving our defense enough credit. I hope you were pleasantly surprised by the defense last week.

Because the game's at Baylor, they will score more points than TCU. But, our defense is playing their hearts out. Overachieving, really. I just hope the offense holds the ball some, so the defense isn't on the field all day. RCJH

I'm glad we finally have a starting QB and that he played the entire TCU game. Now it's time for Ryan to learn to hold onto the ball. I thought his fumble on the goal line last week showed he isn't gripping the ball tightly enough while he's looking for a receiver. The TCU defensive lineman just pushed our lineman into Ryan and the ball popped out.

Another example of Ryan not holding the ball tightly enough was during the Memphis game when he pulled the ball down to run, but ended up fumbling it up in the air right to a Memphis Dback. Maybe our running backs coach, Tony Hull could work with Ryan on ball security.

Next, Coach Beaty must teach Ryan when to get rid of the ball to avoid a sack. The last drive of the TCU game was just agonizing watching Ryan look for a receiver way too long and finally get sacked twice. We have a very young and inexperienced starting quarterback, so we must be patient. But, I sure will be looking for improvement in both of these areas from Ryan. Let's coach him up. RCJH

Projected 2016-2017 W/L Record • Oct 12, 2016 04:20 PM

@MR11 We simply must beat Huggie this year. Last year the snow storm got us off to a bad start and every year the referees make it especially difficult to win in Morgantown. This year I'm calling for a thumping of the Mountaineers. Enough is enough. RCJH

KU Players in NBA Preseason • Oct 12, 2016 11:10 AM

@BeddieKU23 I hate that Perry is missing the preseason. He didn't get much chance to prove his NBA value during the summer league. I desperately hope Perry makes an NBA team. The problem is his contributions take place quietly in a league that looks for maximum volume: tattoos, wild hair styles and obnoxious behavior.

Let's see how long it takes our friends to start commenting again after the data loss. I had to re-establish my account because I joined less than nine months ago. I love this site and enjoy everyone here. I hope everyone comes back and continues to discuss KU Football. RCJH

@Crimsonorblue22 Thanks, I missed the notice on the surgery. We have Jayhawks all over the NBA, so it's difficult to keep up with our guys. RCJH

Does anyone know what has happened with Perry Ellis? I tried to find some playing stats on the Hornet website, but nothing is listed for him.

Jeez. I guess I'm new enough that I'm no longer recognized as a user. I had to re-register. This is stoptheflop. I'm finding I really miss our ongoing topics that now appear to be lost. Others may have to re-register too.
