@Wishawk I think we can get them, but KU has to be careful of charges too. They will stop defending and start standing in the way. They have to be wise when they drive: know when to pull up, pass or change directions.

@drgnslayr I thought someone made a great observation about WIgs' dribble. It's really high and a bit out of control. That spin move he does in traffic scares the crap out of me too. His dribble takes so long between his hand and the floor. Unfortunately, I've seen him lose the ball too.

[

"Watch this..." -Mario Chalmers I believe the Nova v. KU game clip is the clip when Chalmers dribbled over to Wright and then lobbed to Arthur.

This game is one of my fav KU games, next to '88 and '08...and a few others. I hope they have a game or two like this game.

[

Jay Wright's commercial cracks me up.

Everytime Wigs drives, I hold my breath and hope for the best. Then a whistle blows and my heart stops for a milisecond. Then it's usually against the defender. It just bothers me because he's aggressive and gets to the line, but I guess the B12 Smart ordeal is still in my mind.

BLOG for Tourney Games • Mar 23, 2014 03:06 AM

@drgnslayr I thought our bigs handled EKY's fakes fairly well. But they still jumped out of the dome in most cases.

BLOG for Tourney Games • Mar 23, 2014 02:59 AM

I think it's safe to say that teams have a game plan against KU to draw charges. This is an interesting trend against them. Let's see if Stanford resorts to drawing charges. They can't play defense so they have to stand in the way. Wigs, Selden, and Traylor need to be prepared and watch them set up. They have to make the defense react and not let them set up in the driving lane or simply pull up in front of the extended arms of the defensive player. This is true of Wigs. Teams will try to draw charges on him. There's always a lob option around the rim. I say the "charge" rule has made charging even worse. I think most have been called pretty close at this point. But, charges are still too quickly called in most cases.

BLOG for Tourney Games • Mar 23, 2014 02:51 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Not too familiar with Stanford. Didn't follow them much. All the Pac attention was on zona, ucla, and oregon. So, they are a good team or wouldn't be here. I think this will be a relatively well scouted game. I expect a much better game against Stanford than EKY. The EKY game was a good game and a great gut check for KU. I hope Tharpe comes to play both games. Tharpe has to wake up and play. Thankfully CF stepped up for Tharpe.

BLOG for Tourney Games • Mar 23, 2014 02:47 AM

Dayton reminds me a bit of EKY, only a bit better. KU has to control the boards and reduce TOs. I hope Tharpe comes to play this game.

@Crimsonorblue22 Stanford over NM? They were really looking to KU. They couldn't focus and thought Stanford was beat.

DOOK...wow

@RockChalkinTexas

No Dayton or Harvard in 3 of my brackets.

Pitt over CU.

Oregon over BYU.

OU over NDSU.

UF over Albany- wouldn't mind being wrong on this game.

@wissoxfan83 I actually have Wisconsin in the F4 with one bracket playing and beating L'ville.

March 20: News Headlines Digest • Mar 20, 2014 07:12 PM

@DinarHawk I have four brackets and my fourth was a mad upset bracket. I had Dayton over OSU. OSU and Thad Matta are disappointing. They are on Turner's list too. If Embiid stays, I hope that Turner goes to SMU.

Don't look now but there's a game with Harvard and Cincy too.

Good grief what did Tad Boyle do to prepare CU? This is not the same CU team. But it goes to show how soft the Pac12 really is and it could be a bit of an indicator of other Pac12 teams too.

Why does this team resemble the '88 team? The record is so simllar and they were dubbed "Danny and Miracles." No one thought KU would do much that year either. I'm not reading anything into this notion, but it's so interesting how the two teams are so much alike.

KUBuckets Brackets on ESPN • Mar 18, 2014 04:56 AM

@approxinfinity Thank you for creating the ku bucket brackets. These brackets are fairly balanced and they make for some difficult selections. There's definitely no favorite. I don't even think Florida is all that favored because all these teams are vulnerable and the most "successful" are the most vulnerable, ie. wsu. It was difficult to make any clear favorite to win. I'm doubting my brackets and see some busting taking place early.

Did we draw the toughest bracket? • Mar 17, 2014 07:46 PM

@jaybate 1.0 Cuse has the biggest chip on their shoulder and the biggest monkey. They have so much to prove. They will play angry and are a dangerous team.

I would love for ksu to knock uk out. ISU will take care of some business. BU has a pretty tough bracket too. Texas has dook in their bracket which means they will play dook and the officials. OSU and OU are in the same bracket, with a chance to play each other deeper into the tourney. I'd love to see osu knock zona out. Baylor, Creighton, SDSU, OU, OSU, Zags, zona...all tough. The committee did a really good job with each bracket. I don't see any team having a cake walk. As always and true to form, Izzo has msu playing at the right time.

Did we draw the toughest bracket? • Mar 17, 2014 07:45 PM

These brackets are difficult because teams that should win are not locks to win. I can see some early exits, but it's hard to complete a bracket with certainty. I've reviewed the brackets several times today and keep coming up with different outcomes. It's wide open. I have no idea. It's madness I tell you, MADNESS.

Did we draw the toughest bracket? • Mar 17, 2014 07:41 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I really think there may be something wrong with K. He's not acting right since that little episode where he almost blacked out. I don't think he's quite right physically.

Did we draw the toughest bracket? • Mar 17, 2014 07:36 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Yeah, no disrespect to WSU, but they honestly didn't have much in terms of competition all year. They are good, no doubt. The Shox are living in lala land if they think they will get through that battle tested bracket.

If I were a Shocker, I'd be really concerned. Yet, they will start on their schedule last year and how they played a good L'ville in the F4 and will do it again. They are playing arguably several L'ville's as good, if not better than L'ville last year. The Shox need to wake up and live reality. The ride is coming to an abrupt stop at any game now. They danced through the MVC, but this isn't the MVC. All the same, I mean no ill-will and good luck to the Shox, they'll need it. I hope KU will play as well and show their real ability. I'd like at least a F4, if not a NC game. KU is arguably the most battle tested of any team and have some pretty nasty scars too. It's time to step up or shut-up.

Keep the Doubters Coming! • Mar 17, 2014 07:19 PM

@JRyman I know we can. The team has to have the same attitude and play up to their potential. They have to ask themselves a hard question: Do we want to end the season on a down note?

Wiggins needs ask himself if he wants to end his only college year on a negative note. This kid is going to be super competitive and focused. He came to KU with two goals: win NC and go to the NBA. We all know he's as good as gone to the NBA, but he has one more commitment to fulfill.

Who? Part Two • Mar 14, 2014 08:00 PM

@drgnslayr I think Perry Ellis forgot his somewhere. Would someone please get him another? He needs to put it on and play tonight.

They All Stepped Up.. • Mar 14, 2014 07:43 PM

@JRyman Lucas' body language spoke so loud to me. He had one good block, but that's about it. He's a real young kid that needs time. My question was answered as to why "the Load" wasn't playing. He looked out of his element.

They All Stepped Up.. • Mar 14, 2014 07:42 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Yeah, Wesley is a great athlete, but against Niang? No, that wouldn't be good either. I think Ellis is your best option, but Traylor may give him some fits too. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think JTray and Niang played on the Mean Streets AAU?

They All Stepped Up.. • Mar 14, 2014 01:20 PM

@icthawkfan316 A good coach would step in and tell Smart enough already. It's getting old. But...we all know that Ford isn't really the coach. It's HCMS. This is Smart's team, program, and staff. He is the team, program and staff. Ford looks incompetent and the writing on the wall is beginning to look pretty clear. But many osu sports fans don't think osu will lift a finger to fire him. Oh well, dumb for osu, but even more tragic for B12 coaching staffs. Ford has now become the bottom of the coaching list. Ford, Drew, and Barnes were all competing for it and well all know what Barnes has done this year, "COY." Drew isn't much better but he does have his team playing right now at this point and time. Ford is just lost all coaching influence. He's heading down the same path as some of the other coaches with less noticeable reps...kinda sad.

They All Stepped Up.. • Mar 14, 2014 01:12 PM

@RockChalkinTexas haha the Embiid change...nice touch

They All Stepped Up.. • Mar 14, 2014 01:11 PM

@KirkIsMyHinrich Niang and Black? Maybe Ellis? I'd put Black on someone else. Niang is pretty mobile for a guy his size. Wigs and Selden will be assigned to Kane. There's really no other isu player for Black to guard except Niang. I just don't think Black can stay away from fouls guarding Niang. It has to be someone more mobile in and out of the lane. Selden will probably get Kane most of the night. Hogue is about the only other sizeable option. We'll definitely go small most of the night to match.

Ok, Mr Ellis, this is your team. You always shine and now is the time to break this funk. Ellis matches really well with isu.

They All Stepped Up.. • Mar 14, 2014 01:00 PM

@icthawkfan316 How many times did Franny and Mussy tell us that Brown and Forte were hurt? The entire game? It almost sounded exusatory. Is that even a word? Excusatory?

They All Stepped Up.. • Mar 14, 2014 12:57 PM

I have to give props to osu. They didn't go thug on KU. I also want to give the sportsmanship award to Markel Brown. He went over and helped Tharpe up after that late hard foul. Overall great game and thought it was officiated fairly well. Props all around.

Loved the flop count crew too. ISU was in on the flop issue last night as well and held Smart accountable, as did the refs. Smart took on a third role last night. He was part player, coach, and official. The guy is ridiculous.

Rock Chalk and beat ISU.

Who? • Mar 13, 2014 08:08 PM

@drgnslayr Queue Smart flopping...and............ACTION in the second half. The thugs will show their true colors in the second half. They are tired, frusterated, and just don't like KU at all. Smart will definitely show his nasty side. Brown is pouting, and Nash is getting mouthy. I will expect some techs against OSU before this game is over. Smart's smart mouth has caught up with him. Now he and the Cowboys will have to live up to his mouth.

They are all stepping up to the game. Ellis is absent and should come alive in the second half. If Ellis wakes up, it's over for the Pokes. CALLING PERRY ELLIS TO THE GAME, PERRY ELLIS...PLEASE COME TO THE GAME.

Making a run without JoJo • Mar 12, 2014 08:02 PM

@JRyman Seth Greenberg said exactly that: start JTray and Black. I don't mean both at the same time over Ellis, but maybe interchange the two. Black must get his fouls under control and move his feet or have backside help when he jumps on a defender.

Making Up for Joel • Mar 11, 2014 07:49 PM

@jaybate 1.0 What if "Tar" gets into foul trouble as he so often does? I think Lucas needs to be ready to go with more mins. The B12 tourney may give him the time he needs to get into rhythm. I could see Lucas playing an Aldrich type role when we played unc. Aldrich had fun with TBro.
Tarik needs to play within himself and Lucas needs to prove himself. Does Lucas belong in big time D1 bball? It's go time for "The Load."

March 9: News Headlines Digest • Mar 10, 2014 02:07 PM

@Lulufulu85 Your points are valid, but there is hope. It's not over till it's over. We may get bounced first or second game, but so could any other team. This is an odd year to say the least. So, let's remember 1988 when Manning led us and also those sweet words, "The Hawks Spread their Wings as the Fat Lady Sings." This team is a lot like that 1988 team more than any other team since. I remember when KU went into the '88 tourney, they had as many loses. I don't think anyone expected KU to win it then either. Manning was a phenom like Wiggins, but Wiggins is so young, yet so talented. He's shown his talent, but he's not getting any help from the other guards. Tharpe's true colors are finally being expose at this point and time. I just don't see him being a consistent pg that will lead this team. Tharpe and Selden have to contribute more than usual.

I think it's safe to say that Selden is coming back unless he has a huge tournament. Selden has to show more and be consistent this post-season if he plans to go to the NBA.

Just don't think Tharpe is a NC caliber pg. He's just too inconsistent and as a pg, he's slow on his feet. He's "flashy" but you have to be on game most every game. He's playing more, but pretty much as his first few years at KU, good, but not able to step up his game when needed.

I'm very concerned about Embiid. You're right, no Embiid equals an early exit. Also, afraid that injury is worse than they thought. Bill Self is tempering fears and concerns. He does that a lot too. He did with Rel back when he sprung his ankle. He said Rel would be out for a few games. Rel was out most of the first half of the season. I guess it's a coach's way of spinning and managing a situation. I think Embiid is closer to being back another year each passing day of his injury. Unless he shows marked healing and improvement, his injury is going to force him back, a bit like BRush.

Perry should be our Mannning. He's missing that something which is keeping him from being the player KU needs right now. He's got so much potential to be a great player, but is just lacking somewhere. I tend to think it's "toughness." He's a good kid and is very soft.

Black is great, but too foul proned.

Traylor is just a utility player.

Mason is good, but too small. He's really struglling in D1 play.

Want A Bold Move? Start Lucas • Mar 05, 2014 02:05 PM

I hope Black or Lucas has a breakout game. They are due. We are due. We need someone to explode for a huge night at the right time and game.

Tarik Black: Future Coach • Mar 05, 2014 02:02 PM

@jaybate 1.0 J I love TBlack. He's a great guy with the best attitude. I love his nose for the ball, aggressive nature, and just a super on and off court presence. I'd take a team full of Blacks any day of the week. I do hope he lands in Europe or an NBA DLeague team. He's a great guy to have on your team.

Was Smart Smart? • Mar 05, 2014 02:00 PM

@nuleafjhawk Why do I have a feeling Marcus Smart may disappear into mediocrity or neutralized in the NBA? I'm done wasting my time on him. He's not worth the energy it takes to type. It's sad because if he would kept his nose clean and focused on bball and not his ego, he had some respect. It's all gone. Marcus Smart is a zero in my character book. Next...

Want A Bold Move? Start Lucas • Mar 04, 2014 03:03 PM

@HighEliteMajor I've been a big fan of Lucas. Even Self said, "Lucas is a load." But isn't playing much. There must be a chemistry that Self doesn't want to confuse at this point. He needs to play Lucas at some point.
