This is a comment on The Athletic after KState's choke job last night:

"I'm a K-State fan from way back and it sucks to miss the final four this way. However, calls or no calls, the best team today won, without any doubt, and they deserve their due. Unlike the hoards of punks known as KU fans, K-State fans are gracious in victory or defeat and today we were, without any doubt whatsoever, defeated. Congratulations to FAU, and congratulations to our guys for making it this far. A group picked to finish last in the Big 12, who had never played together, had an outstanding year and should hold their head high."

Does he/she realize how many of us were pulling for their team?

I saw one tweet that was a retweet from last year from a KSU fan who mocked our NC with the "easiest path ever" taunt. Someone pointed out three times in recent years KSU has made it to the elite 8 only to lose to Butler, Loyola, and FAU. 3 golden opportunities to make the FF for the first time since I was born, 1964!

ksu fans have a huge inferiority complex. Even in losses they must compare themselves to KU. While playing random other teams they chant about KU. KU owns so much headspace of the ksu fans it’s ridiculous.

K-State's day of relevance is over. Their 0-8 record in their last 8 EE games remains unblemished. No Final Fours since 1964. Lost to KU a national record 200+ times. Show me a good K-State loser, and I'll show you someone whose had a lot of practice at it.

I did it better than any KSU fan if I'm being honest.

Also whispers it doesn't matter how easy the path is, just capitalize. Maybe that's something KSU fans will realize if they start making the tournament with more regularity.

That's called ENVY - - they can't help themselves , poor lil fella's- - I think even when they sleep they dream KU. Watch now this year is over , you will see them tuck all their little purple hoodies - - shirts - - stuffed kittys - - pom pom's away in the closet for another decade when they once again MIGHT become a decent team for yet another year.

We shall see how Coach Tang really is next year with life after Nowell & Keyonte , they have some ok players next year but they won't have Nowell /Keyonte type players. - BUT it was a great run , Congrads to Coach Tang

These poor little fella's have visions of /or thinking about NOW they have become a relevant program - -their one year has brought them National prominence . - -Actually some believing they have caught KU. To that I say when you can repeat what you've done this year do this year after year after year - When you win multiple National Championships , when you can win the Conference what 17/20 yrs - When you can go what 33 straight years to the NCAA'S which is a record like KU has - -THEN come talk to me , until then please enjoy your year Till your ranked in the top 25 for how many constitutive weeks DO NOT try and compare and say you havor right at KU's level - - ROCK CHALK

The very next tweet was from a sympathetic KU fan who had been rooting for 'em.

I do have to admit that after rooting for KSU for the first 38 minutes I got a secret emotional orgasmic delight at the ending....

I followed the score on my phone. I figured they'd win handily, and I actually thought I wanted them to win (you know, for the good people in rural Kansas). But I knew if I watched them, I'd see the players' and fans' stupid ugly faces and I'd end up rooting against them. By the end I was definitely pulling for FAU anyway. Oh well, I tried.

Quotes like this is exactly why I cheer against them and why their coach calls them out for allowing us to live rent free in the their heads. My feed was blown up last night with staters asking when KU plays.I had to explain that in the tournament there are 3 national runner ups with no third place game and everyone goes home with the same bag of treats. I’d rather have our season than theirs because we at least won one conference title compared nothing for them.

when those idiots blow your feed up like that , you simply respond - enlighten me again - - how MANY NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS is it you all have won again ? Or you can say there is only ONE winner at the end of the year - -and your not it , looks like you can be sitting in your lazy boy and watching the title game just like the rest of us - -Cause you DIDN'T MAKE IT - no trophies for a great eight

@mayjay My experience was kind of the same. Part of it was ok, let's get 2 Big 12 teams in the FF and even a chance they play each other in the final. (last time it happened was KU-OU). Part of it is Nowell really put on a show and was fun to watch. But watching them fritter away a lead against a 9 seed had me start to relish the thought.

Agree. Was hoping maybe a final of the big 12. I was actually pulling for them as they represented our Conference , then watching Marquis some of the passes he made was just insane.

Yet actually Fla Atl is pretty good and let's not forget they knocked off some pretty decent teams. - Not quite sure why Nowell gave he ball up that last trip, put it in the hands of the guy that got you there- - and for the most part it was Nowell, hand the game to him but he passed it off and the guy he passed to wasn't really even in a position to shoot the ball

We are the B12. Except for one crazy year that Baylor had, it's always been us. I was pulling for K-State until I realized that sexy 0-7 record in their last 7 EE games . Then I realized, I should be pulling for 0-8. I'm going to have to put that fact on the repeat button- they're going to be hearing about that quite a lot, I predict. B12 pride...yeah, yeah, yeah. Go team. But do I really care? Do I want those egg sucking dogs from Austin winning anything? Hell no. Let those traitors get run out of town.

Just before the KSU-Michigan State game, a friend (Stanford grad and wife is UNC grad -- father played for UNC back in the day) who has become a bit of a KU follower texted me:

I should know the answer to this question: if one is a Jayhawks fan and their team is eliminated, do they root for Kansas State or is that like rooting for the devil?

My answer:

It’s a tricky question. And thankfully a question with rarely an occasion to be asked. The best explanation I can give: You clandestinely root for them to advance to the elite 8 as a fellow big 12 team but no further because there would be no end to their delusional claim that they are now the best program in the state.

Another way of explaining the pecking order: Missouri is the devil; K-State is the annoying little brother. You may obsequiously clap for the little brother.

I also was asked by a friend who is a Duke grad, how we view the K-State vs FAU game. I explained my perspective and he said that was pretty much how Duke views NC State.

The difference (and I don't know this for a fact, just a guess) is that NC State doesn't have the complex hate for Duke the way K-State does for KU.

NAILED IT! I've explained this same thing to all the folks in Texas who cared about basketball for a little bit there.

@wissox I was one of those who were NOT pulling for their team. Unless you meant pulling for them to lose. Because on any given day I would rather see KU lose than K-State win. I have issues.
