NFL Season - 2023
Sep 05, 2023 09:13 PM #1

New season starts Thu night on Amazon prime time.

A lot to look forward to this year.

How will Jets fare with Aaron Rogers? Will Jordan Love prove his worth?

What about 49ers?

Justin Fields is getting a lot of media love?

Will Denver make playoffs with Sean Payton as new HC?

How will Chiefs fare without Chris Jones and no star WR?

It begins on Thu night.

@AsadZ and kelce’s knee hyperextended!šŸ™

Sep 06, 2023 11:57 AM #3

@AsadZ Streaming will be the death of sports fandom among older people.

Sep 06, 2023 12:44 PM #4

Apple TV is making record profit on MLS streaming, thanks to Lionel Messi.

Sep 06, 2023 04:04 PM #5

Any Lions fans on this board?

Sep 06, 2023 10:00 PM #6

Who are the teams you root for besides the Chiefs? This question is not about who you want to win for playoff spot jockeying...just who has players, history, fans, city, coach, or something that makes you get a kick out of seeing them do well.

Mine is Jacksonville. Have enjoyed watching Lawrence come along so well (despised his first ass-hat coach). Despite the fact that he looks like Central Casting's candidate for a role as an Elf in a Lord of the Rings movie.

Sep 06, 2023 11:55 PM #7

I don’t have a particular team who I root for although I root for underdogs.

I also root for individual players especially Jayhawks in the NFL which has been scarce.

Sep 07, 2023 04:17 PM #8

GameDay!!!!

BeatLions

I get to watch the game on my local NBC channel. I haven't seen it advertised on Amazon Prime.

Sep 07, 2023 04:52 PM #9

Yup, weird, but 100% not on Prime this week.

Amazon, with Prime Video, will be broadcasting Thursday Night Football once again. Yet the first game of the NFL season — the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs — isn’t on Amazon.

Why is that? Well, for one: It’s on NBC and Peacock. And why is that? Because they have the honors of doing the opening game of the season.

TNF will be back on Prime Video starting in Week 2, with the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles facing off. Their schedule will run all the way through Week 17.

Sep 07, 2023 11:40 PM #10

I have been reading several quotes on Lions and they appear to be legit, potent offense and improved defense.

With Kelce out this game will be tough.

Who will step up tonight.

Sep 07, 2023 11:50 PM #11

Noah

Sep 08, 2023 12:00 AM #12

I'll accept any WR or TE combination! Even CEH!

Rumor has it that the Lions are susceptible to runs up the gut. So, could be a good set up for CEH.

Sep 08, 2023 12:48 AM #13

Ugh D!

Sep 08, 2023 01:02 AM #14

Rice caught it! Gonna wear mahomes out tonight

Sep 08, 2023 01:13 AM #15

Lions over 100 receiving yards already

Sep 08, 2023 01:26 AM #16

Rice again!

Sep 08, 2023 01:32 AM #17

Bell dozer

Sep 08, 2023 01:34 AM #18

Chris Jones like it?

Sep 08, 2023 02:23 AM #19

Well, this sucks. I have a lot to complain about

Sep 08, 2023 02:49 AM #20

CEH lookin tough. So rough

Sep 08, 2023 02:50 AM #21

Toney, just off

Sep 08, 2023 02:51 AM #22

@BShark let it rip

Sep 08, 2023 02:52 AM #23

I’m dying at Taylor cheating his arse off every play and still getting rekt

Sep 08, 2023 03:57 AM #24

Drop drop tip it up and let them pic it off. Pat was po'd

Sep 08, 2023 12:09 PM #25

Extremely frustrating game for Chiefs fans, too many drops and costly mistakes.

Short yardage play calling was awful.

On a bright side, D stepped by giving only 14 pts.

Sep 08, 2023 01:07 PM #26

WR corps is wretched. Toney is not game ready. Rice’s hands are stone like, but not at bad as Toney’s!!!

Sep 08, 2023 03:17 PM #27

@dylans He had missed pretty much all preseason camp and games. I blame staff.

Sep 08, 2023 03:55 PM #28

@AsadZ He should not have been on the field, but timing doesn’t have much to do with (3) drops. Just a horrid game. I’m not mad a Veach for the 3rd and 6th round picks, what Toney did in the SB was worth the picks alone.

Sep 08, 2023 05:22 PM #29

After sleeping off that opening day loss…

— are the Chiefs ruining the Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl window by faking it with this oddball WR crew?

IMO: he needs a few dependable receivers he can trust. Spend the money, Veach!

— what was the deal with the RB approach last night? I’m confused. I thought Pacheco was RB1? How on Earth did the stiff as a board CEH get involved so much?

IMO: Jonathan Taylor for Chris Jones? Ha

— Andy Reid. Hmmm. Some oddball play calling and decision making last night? Or was that regular Reid?

IMO: I probably would have done the same on those fourth down calls. You?

Sep 08, 2023 06:09 PM #30

Am I the only one who thought / thinks / will always think that Reid is a dumbass for not going for fourth and TWO on the Lion's 22 yard line and opted to kick a meaningless field goal?

Sep 08, 2023 08:34 PM #31

@nuleafjhawk no I thought it was a bad decision. So is taking the ball out of Mahomes hands on 3rd down.

Sep 08, 2023 08:56 PM #32

@dylans I understand the "philosophy" of not playing starters all the time during the pre-season. I don't agree with it, but I understand it. I mean you don't want Kelce getting hurt in a pre-season game, right? But it's ok to hurt his knee in practice. My point being, they're going to play 17+ games anyway. If they're serious about making a deep run in the post season, they should be serious about getting a rhythm, a system down in the pre-season. None of the Chiefs looked like they'd ever played before. I didn't research it, but I'll bet the Lions starters played more than 1 set of downs in the pre-season. Practice makes perfect.

Sep 08, 2023 09:48 PM #33

Toney and Pacheco had surgery in the off season. Didn't know til close til game whether they were playing. Sneed has had a bum knee for quite awhile. I liked what toney gave us last yr, gonna be patient. Hmmm hard!

Sep 08, 2023 10:03 PM #34

@Crimsonorblue22 I like how you think.
Remember, this is the same board that has come to firm conclusions about the Jayhawks' lack of success in the upcoming season, and absolutist opinions about the limited ceilings of some players, based on the PR trip.

Sep 09, 2023 12:22 AM #35

@nuleafjhawk Andy Reid’s pre-season camp at St Joes is notoriously difficult. It’s not lack of preparation. - preseason games have fringe guys flying around trying to make a roster. I’m fine with the way it went down. Toney had knee surgery after getting injured the first day of training camp. He will improve. Skyy Moore I’m concerned about. - Veach needs to figure out how to draft a quality WR quickly.

Sep 09, 2023 12:34 AM #36

Veatch seems to have better scouts on D, recall picking Bolton, Gay, Sneed, Watson, Williams, Trent, George, Cook etc

Chiefs D with the exception of DL is young and deep.

He hasn’t had same success on Offense except for couple of OL in Creed and Smith who fell down due to injury concerns.

Sep 17, 2023 06:35 PM #37

Chiefs??

Sep 17, 2023 07:49 PM #38

@Crimsonorblue22 Wish they had a receiver.

Sep 17, 2023 10:18 PM #39

I’ll take this ugly W.

But they better start taking care of the damn football.

Sep 17, 2023 10:38 PM #40

Shout out to D for showing up Big.

Thankful for seeing Jones back in action.

Sep 18, 2023 03:03 AM #41

The Chiefs defense looked solid today bending and not breaking. Not sure if Kelce is dating Swift or not but his attitude is in the gutter. Good news for KC fans is the west looks like hot garbage and they should still take the division.

Sep 18, 2023 04:42 AM #42

@kjayhawks she was there, so I heard.

Sep 18, 2023 11:10 AM #43

@Crimsonorblue22 Does that count as continuing her amazing streak of sellouts in her appearances?

Sep 18, 2023 12:34 PM #44

Data from another article:

Chiefs D for first two games under Spags:

First 4 Seasons:

23.25 points per game allowed
399.4 yards per game allowed
136.6 rushing yards per game allowed (5.1 YPC)
40% third down conversions allowed

Now here is what the Chiefs have allowed through two games this season.
15.0 points per game allowed
319.5 yards per game allowed
82.0 rushing yards per game allowed (4.0 YPC)
29.6% third down conversions allowed

Sep 18, 2023 01:16 PM #45

@AsadZ was 74 on the team last yr? His novel idea of timing the count isn't working!

Sep 18, 2023 01:41 PM #46

Gotta figure it out with Chris Jones, he was dominant yesterday.

Sep 18, 2023 02:12 PM #47

Karma? Playing football in summer can be cruel. He’s trying to shake off an injury. Maybe there is some bad blood? Don’t blame me, I knew he was trouble.

Sep 18, 2023 05:03 PM #50

@dylans lmao I was hoping to some of this!

Sep 24, 2023 07:33 PM #51

Cowboys and Niners looking legit this year.

Any cowboys fans on this board.

Broncos getting smoked by Dolphins today.

Sep 24, 2023 09:54 PM #52

AND tada the CHIEFSā¤ļø da Bears, not to good. Swiftie is real! Or is it Swifty?

Sep 24, 2023 10:02 PM #53

I am sad

Sep 24, 2023 10:12 PM #54

Khalil Herbert is with Bears

I wish him well except for today

Sep 24, 2023 10:47 PM #55

@FarmerJayhawk did Swiftie dump u?

Sep 24, 2023 10:48 PM #56

@AsadZ dolphins look really good! Speed!

The Cowboys part aged like milk. Very much enjoyed their performance today against the Cardinals!

Sep 24, 2023 11:28 PM #58

Didn’t realize Cairo Santos is still in NFL, Bears kicker.

Cowboys lost to Cardinals, huge upset, trap game for the Boys

Sep 24, 2023 11:30 PM #59

@Texas-Hawk-10 Texans got a big win against Jags

Sep 25, 2023 01:29 AM #60

@Crimsonorblue22 just my Bears sucking.

Sep 25, 2023 12:15 PM #61

Farmer
I think coaches need to come with plays to use Fields strengths, make him get out of pocket more.

Sep 25, 2023 04:16 PM #62

I'm so proud of the grit and will of our new QB for GB yesterday, I tell you if GB fans don't get behind this guy & most aer but for those that don't , then they are not fans. I'm so tire of hearing about Aaron. - Aaron is gone - - he is not a Packer any longer , move on dam. - Jordan Love showed up a lot yesterday.

They had done a thing all day down 17-0 to New Orleans , but late third qtr and forth quarter he was awesome rallied back from 17-0 Defense shut them out the 2nd half and won the game 18-17

Sep 25, 2023 05:16 PM #63

No idea why Fields had some MVP talk in the offseason. His passer rating was trash last season and is this season.

Sep 25, 2023 06:42 PM #64

@AsadZ I agree. They need to do something different. He clearly showed flashes last year with zero talent around him. Now we've added some really good pieces on the OL and skill positions and it's still bad.

Sep 25, 2023 08:52 PM #65

@kjayhawks He is extremely dangerous outside of pocket. He can run and has extraordinary arm. He is not your typical pocket passer. If used properly he can become a top notch QB.

Not a Taylor Swift fan, as her music is aimed at teenage girls, but that was a cute picture of Travis and Taylor cruising in his convertible after the game.

Sep 26, 2023 08:57 PM #67

All over national media news

Sep 26, 2023 10:16 PM #68

@AsadZ I think he struggles mightily with accuracy and likely always will. I’d put him at tail back

Sep 26, 2023 10:22 PM #69

@AsadZ Santos is the only good thing we have going for us in Chicago!

Sep 27, 2023 01:27 AM #70

@FarmerJayhawk were you a tiny tot when you started being a Bears fan? The Bears shuffle? Right?

Sep 27, 2023 01:32 AM #71

@Crimsonorblue22 I was! The compromise in my grandparents marriage way back when was they'd raise Bears football and Cardinals baseball fans (they were married before the Chiefs or Royals were a thing) and it's carried on since. The Super Bowl was before I was born but thankful for YouTube

Sep 27, 2023 01:58 AM #72

@FarmerJayhawk Super Bowl shuffle!

Amen. I'm wondering why on earth I drafted Fields in my fantasy football league. I benched him for Geno and just picked up Stroud...Two very middle of the road QBs. Hard to believe Fields is my 2 or 3rd choice among those three.

Sep 27, 2023 06:15 PM #74

99 yards passing last game. Youch
Not sure if he’s salvageable or not at this point. Too bad.

Sep 27, 2023 07:47 PM #75

@bskeet Many analysts have been praising him and his talent.

Sep 28, 2023 01:53 AM #76

@AsadZ Analyst have garbage takes most the time. The same analysts saying the chiefs weren’t making the playoffs last season and the broncos were going to roll. I’m a numbers guy and there are flat out zero statistics that suggest he’s even a top 20 QB in the nfl right now. He’s a good runner, that’s it.

Oct 01, 2023 06:49 PM #77

The way the dolphins v bills game started I was hoping for a no punt game!

Oct 02, 2023 05:32 PM #78

Whew, are the Jets that good or did the Chiefs nearly lay another egg? (Lions)

Mahomes with an unusual amount of unforced errors yesterday.

I stand firmly by my preseason rant that the Chiefs are in a Super Bowl window with Mahomes, but they are seemingly intentionally sandbagging him with no serviceable wide receivers. Why??? I don’t get it.

That's spot on, that's what I been telling my friend, I am just not impressed with their receivers. Other then Kelce, none of them if I was the opponent, would scare me.- If they don't make it - -that's gonna be why

Oct 02, 2023 11:20 PM #80

Jets D is legit

Their scheme was excellent to slow down PM

Mahomes made couple of bad decisions, should have thrown it away, he gets greedy at times.

I concur that Chiefs don’t have an alpha receiver but I still believe they can be really good with experience and if they avoid costly mistakes.

Oct 03, 2023 02:01 AM #81

Good chance we have the top 2 picks let’s goooo

Oct 06, 2023 01:13 AM #82

Fields and co looking salty early (again)!

Oct 06, 2023 01:14 AM #83

@FarmerJayhawk Fingers crossed. It'd be nice to close one out.

Oct 06, 2023 02:10 AM #84

@wissox Butkus’s ghost won’t let us lose this one (I think)

Oct 06, 2023 03:50 AM #85

@FarmerJayhawk sorry! RIP

Oct 06, 2023 12:11 PM #86

@FarmerJayhawk Him and Gayle Sayers are the two Bear players that I wish I could have watched. You tube videos are amazing. He was such a great ambassador for the game.

Oct 06, 2023 12:52 PM #87

@wissox Mike Singletary was amazing.

Oct 06, 2023 04:40 PM #88

@wissox same! Sayers is my favorite player of all time. From tiny, tiny Speed, Kansas which is about 45 minutes from where I grew up.

Oct 07, 2023 02:29 AM #89

@mayjay Agreed, but I'm old enough to have seen Singletary, never saw Butkus or Sayers. From everything I've read Butkus was probably the GOAT linebacker.

Oct 09, 2023 12:33 PM #90

Chiefs D is playing better than O.

Hopefully O can figure things out as season goes along.

How about niners smacking C Boys.

Oct 09, 2023 01:52 PM #91

@AsadZ Yeah. The wr are young and not the best.

Oct 09, 2023 02:04 PM #92

@AsadZ mahomes looked better, got sacked more though, not good. Trav looked good and was it Watson that had that sweet catch? I think our receivers are getting better. Need BellDozer for those short yardage plays, something needs to change there!

Oct 09, 2023 03:50 PM #93

How much impact is caused by new O coordinator

Reid is still calling shots and Nagy has been around but the style is very different than EB.

Are players taking time to adjust

Oct 09, 2023 10:16 PM #94

Yea, the O still seems a bit disjointed.

I do like the way Pacheco is running hard.

Other than a few drops yesterday, at least the WRs were involved in the game plan. We can’t seem to do much with them deep yet.

We had a K. Toney sighting! He runs hard after the catch, too.

Is it the inability to get open in mid to deep routes? Mahomes sits back there and looks and looks sometimes.

Oct 09, 2023 10:51 PM #95

MVS needs to step up for deep balls.
