Interesting Games Today?
Sep 09, 2023 12:27 PM #1

One benefit of a Friday Night win, is watching other games on Saturday knowing KU is 2-0. What games are you interested in today? Yeah, yeah, yeah there's Alabama/Tx at 6pm. But, I'm interested in the 11am game Nebraska at Colorado. Colorado is ranked for heaven's sake and a 3 pt favorite. Whoever at Nebraska scheduled this game certainly thought it was going to be an easy win, but now who knows. I watched a bit of last week's big upset against TCU. Junior QB Shedeur Sanders was terrific: 510 yds passing, 4TDs, no INTs. I'm cheering for another Nebraska beat down.

Sep 09, 2023 04:20 PM #2

@stoptheflop I’m gonna turn on that Colorado game now

Sep 09, 2023 04:37 PM #3

Looks like the stadium maybe half full of Nebraska fans

Sep 09, 2023 04:58 PM #4

Just like our game, the refs have flag fever in the Nebr/Colo game. Too many flags guys; you're ruining the game

Sep 09, 2023 05:00 PM #5

@stoptheflop yep for sure, I figured this would be a close game Colorado got a ton hype after one win against a team that I think finishes in the bottom half of the B12

Sep 09, 2023 05:27 PM #6

Alternating with the Baylor/Utah game in Waco on ESPN. I really hope Baylor bounces back. Currently ahead 10-3.

Sep 09, 2023 07:26 PM #7

Do y’all think the Baylor game is winnable for KU? Baylor looks out of sync…

Sep 09, 2023 07:35 PM #8

Yeah we would for sure beat them, I think we'd beat TCU as well. Alas!

Sep 09, 2023 07:44 PM #10

Nevada plays the formidable Idaho Vandals today at 6, but I don't see any TV coverage. Where is ESPN+ when I need them?

Sep 09, 2023 08:06 PM #11

@Gorilla72 yes

Sep 09, 2023 08:56 PM #12

@FarmerJayhawk - Oops.

Sep 09, 2023 09:13 PM #13

Isu not looking good

Sep 09, 2023 09:14 PM #14

@Gorilla72 vandals weird mascot, never heard of them.

Sep 09, 2023 09:16 PM #15

I feel like we got a tough draw in terms of who play watching these first weeks. Baylor, WV, Houston and TCU all look like hot garbage at this point. I’d be licking my chops if we had KSUs schedule.

Sep 09, 2023 10:12 PM #16

Does the Big 12 pick teams at random for schedules or is there a formula or win/loss weighing system? kjay mentions a draw; I can just imagine the NBA's bingo machine with the team names on ping pong balls and your schedule is determined by whichever teams' balls pop up?

Sep 10, 2023 02:10 AM #17

FCS Idaho absolutely wrecked Nevada 33-6. KU should be a pretty big favorite in Reno next Saturday.

Sep 10, 2023 02:10 AM #18

Texas with an 11 point lead in Tuscaloosa early in the 4th quarter.

Ole Miss has looked pretty good so far too and picked up a nice road win over a ranked Tulane today.

Sep 10, 2023 02:53 AM #21

Texas Tech took Oregon to the limit tonight.

Sep 10, 2023 02:54 AM #22

@Texas-Hawk-10 a SEC team with probably at least 5 times the NIL budget as Tulane should win.

Sep 10, 2023 04:06 AM #23

Many people are saying the PAC is the new SEC

Most would've assumed that last year too, but then they went out and beat the eventual Big 12 champs, won the AAC, and then beat USC in the Cotton Bowl. Willie Fritz is a very good coach who many on this site wanted hired here a couple of cycles ago.

Sep 10, 2023 12:24 PM #25

@Texas-Hawk-10 love it. Lets enjoy these fleeting moments while we are still the football underdog, and can appreciate fellowship with other overachieving underdogs.

Sep 10, 2023 01:51 PM #26

So, is Matt Campbell on the hot seat? He had the Cyclones rolling for several years. Maybe Iowa St alums are more patient with rebuilding than most fan bases.

Sep 10, 2023 02:05 PM #27

By the way, what the hell play was Texas trying to run on 4th and 1 in the 4th Q? They had two players lined up behind the center, then the snap was fumbled or never reached whichever player was to receive it. Crazy play that failed miserably at a critical time in the game. Of course, the refs blew it too, but who can blame them when you have so many players behind center it was nearly impossible to even see the ball. Texas got lucky on the replay reversal. Why are KU and other teams struggling with short yardage play calling? Please stop running it up the middle expecting a different result.

Sep 10, 2023 04:34 PM #28

@approxinfinity ya they won’t last a lot longer with the NIL. But does the NIL narrow the gap between the SEC and everyone else? Seems like it may have started to already. The no power conferences will soon be minor leagues per se, have a good year and get called up.

Sep 10, 2023 04:37 PM #29

@Texas-Hawk-10 Willie is a great coach no questioning that. I just didn’t see them holding off a top 5 SEC team. Beating KSU was great for them but was the same KSU team that got spanked in a bowl by the third best SEC team without several starters. That’s what leads jn my question for @approxinfinity.

Sep 10, 2023 04:43 PM #30

@FarmerJayhawk The Pac is a joke to me besides USC. Oregon and Utah whom are probably the second and third best teams in that conference struggled against B12 teams that are gonna be lucky to finish in the top half of the conference.

Sep 10, 2023 08:14 PM #31

@kjayhawks all joking aside, Utah also was on its third QB. There’s not much of a gap between the PAC and Big 12 IMO. It’s actually pretty easy to argue the PAC is better. They have 7 teams ranked, the Big 12 has 3.

Sep 11, 2023 10:09 PM #32

@FarmerJayhawk I personally put more into bowl game results rather than rankings which tend to a popularity contest. To me I realize the B12 wasn’t good in that department last season but I think it was a down year. Seems like when the Pac gets a major bowl birth, it’s ends very badly. https://duckswire.usatoday.com/lists/recent-pac-12-bowl-game-history-further-fuels-laughing-stock-narrative/ ↗

Sep 11, 2023 11:03 PM #33

@kjayhawks ah, yeah I’m not really interested in bowl results in the opt out/Covid era. Too often it’s just who wants to be there rather than actual quality

Sep 12, 2023 02:45 AM #34

@FarmerJayhawk we are all fair to gauge it our way for sure but the opting out and Covid are just the last few years. The Pac has struggled in bowl games since Pete Carroll was on the sidelines.

Sep 13, 2023 05:27 PM #35

PAC worst football conference the last few years. No one watches their super late games - makes it hard to recruit or stir national interest. You’d think they would be under ranked and roll in bowl games with the lack of exposure.

Sep 15, 2023 11:29 AM #36

Looking ahead to Saturday Big 12 action, there isn't a must see game. If I can find it, I'll watch KSt/Mizzou at 11am and hope KSt crushes, humiliates, gutter stomps them. I guess TCU/Houston and BYU/Ark are OK. At least watching BYU at 6:30 on ESPN2 will give us a heads up on next Saturday's game. Our 9:30 game will give us some insight into Jalen's health. Good grief, the sports world is just falling all over itself over Coach Prime. The Colo/ColoSt game gets an ESPN slot at 9pm.

Sep 15, 2023 05:09 PM #37

Deion is interesting. Turned that roster over in a year. He’s also brash and many want to watch him fail. Hate watching is real too. I hope he does well, it’s good for the future big12.

Sep 15, 2023 05:27 PM #38

@stoptheflop You missed the Backyard Brawl tomorrow. Great rivalry and should be a good game.

I cheer any team playing Missouri and crow every Missouri loss. I don't focus or care about what other fans do or think about KU. I will continue to scream my head off over everything KU(just ask my wife) and root against KU's rivals, even if it means hoping KState beats Missou. Today, KState is the lesser of the evils and any SEC loss helps the Big 12.

Sep 16, 2023 05:28 PM #44

Ridiculous flop by a Missou special teams player. Stupid and sad that players think they need to cheat with a flop to gain some advantage. Fortunately, the refs didn't fall for it.

Sep 16, 2023 05:28 PM #45

I'm finding myself watching the K-State/Mizzou game mostly with ambivalence and hope that there's some way both could lose.

I definitely am rooting against Missouri, but it also feels wrong to feel good when K-State has success.

Sep 16, 2023 05:32 PM #46

Hey look at those Long Island Sharks scoring a TD at Baylor. But, Baylor up 16-7 at the half.

Sep 16, 2023 05:36 PM #47

Big 12 not showing out very well. Iowa State tied with Ohio U 0-0 @ halftime. Baylor not blowing out LIU (16-7 @ half). K-State losing by 3 @ the half to Misery. Ugh.

Sep 16, 2023 05:38 PM #48

@Gorilla72 Fortunately, there's another half. :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers:

Sep 16, 2023 05:52 PM #49

Illinois hanging with #7 Penn state way better than they did with unranked Kansas.

Sep 16, 2023 06:26 PM #50

Oh no! Ohio is ahead of ISt in the 3rdQ 7-0

Sep 16, 2023 06:41 PM #51

Iowa State offensive is worse than last year and that’s saying a lot. I know Dekkers is out suspended

Sep 16, 2023 07:17 PM #52

Misery has passed for 320 yds. I hope KU will take advantage of that weak-ass secondary and end the 14 game losing streak to KSt.

Sep 16, 2023 07:23 PM #53

The mighty MAC Ohio Bobcats beat ISt 10-7. Now does anyone else think Matt Campbell may be on the chopping block?

Yes, KSU-Missouri is a rivalry game, not on par with either school and KU, but it's still a rivalry game. Missouri's been average the past few years so beating a top 15 team on a walk-off 61 yard FG is absolutely going to cause fans to storm the field as they should for a big win.

If KU beats KSU later this season, I hope our fans storm the field as well because of how bad we've been against KSU for basically the last 30-35 years.

Some talk this week about Misery dodging KU at the Liberty Bowl. Since we still have 4 hours until KU's game starts, I looked up the projected payouts of the bowls. Missouri got their ass kicked in the Gazpacho Soup Bowl or some such name. That bowl was scheduled to pay $1,125,000. Whereas, the Liberty Bowl that MU passed up paid $4,700,000. Way to go Misery.

Sep 16, 2023 11:55 PM #60

BYU looking not great against pirate Kansas

Sep 17, 2023 12:01 AM #61

Oklahoma state sucks. KSU showed if you can pressure Howard he will turn the ball over. ISU sucks.

UCF will be a tough game to win. Cincy looks like they’ll at least put up a fight.

Still it looks like this team should go bowling. Nevada, ISU, OSU and BYU should be wins. UCF, TTU, KSU, and Cincy could be wins.

Still feel like we are on pace to see an 8+ win season to me.

Sep 17, 2023 12:05 AM #62

Really stinks gameday already did UT this year. A 4-0 KU in Austin would have been a great gameday.

As of right now I think Gameday should do Notre Dame vs Duke that week. I wish they didn’t do Boulder already or I’d say USC at Colorado.

Likely wouldn't go to Austin for KU/Texas regardless because UT has a potentially much bigger match up the following week that GameDay would likely be at if both Texas and Oklahoma are still undefeated at 5-0 and I see no reason to think that won't happen at this point.

Sep 23, 2023 05:30 PM #69

I can't believe it , but I now check Colorado's game and will check in during commercial breaks of KU's game. If I was a betting person, I'd probably take Colo and the 3 TDs.

Sep 23, 2023 11:17 PM #72

Ya Gundy is a ticking bomb at this point. That game for us would be a bad loss at this point. Humble Pie served to Colorado

Sep 24, 2023 12:30 AM #73

Lets go Baylor!

Sep 24, 2023 12:37 AM #74

@approxinfinity I just want Baylor to put up a physical fight. Don’t let Texas rest in the 4th

Sep 24, 2023 01:01 AM #75

Wow. Texas is GOOD

Sep 24, 2023 03:07 AM #76

Baylor is a team I wished we played this season for sure. Scheduling is going to a huge factor not only this season but for years to come in this conference as in whom makes it to the title game. Imagine if we had schedule like BYU, Baylor, WVU, Houston, ISU, OSU, Tech, Cincinnati and KSU. I’d bet we wouldn’t lose more than 2 games and make it to Championship.

Sep 24, 2023 03:25 AM #77

I thought Nevada looked really good against us. Same with BYU. Both QBs played well, except for the INTs. Except for the Illinois game, is our defense still so weak that bad teams look decent? But, 4-0 Baby. Hopefully, KU gets better on both sides of the ball this week and KU upsets Quitter Texas. I look forward to Oklahoma and Texas having the same SEC success as Nebraska and Missouri.

Yes, our defense is improved, but still not good, especially the pass defense. This is an improved team that has a chance to win 8-9 games this season because Oklahoma State and Texas Tech appear to be mich worse teams than expected this year. The question is can this team play well on the road because other than the WVU game, KU never looked that good away from home and didn't look good on the road against one of the worst FBS teams this year.

Sep 24, 2023 02:33 PM #80

@kjayhawks had a hard time deciding how much the outcome of that game was Texas playing well or Baylor playing poorly. Second half felt like more the latter.

Don't forget Iowa State -really bad . Sure they scored yesterday , but a lot of that was because they were playing a worse team. - - -Oklahoma St they are really bad Gundy is in trouble. Cincinnati even though they lost looks a little better then I thought, UCF is going to be interesting. I wouldn't go as far as saying our defense is weak .Our defense won that game for us yesterday Fumble and INT retuned for TD'S like three QB sacks & many once again TFL'S they are getting better. - -True Slovis threw for 357 yards but it took FIFTY ONE attempts to get those yards ,& the reason he had to throw that many times was from being behind because totally shutting down their run game with the defense - -averaged 0.4 yards per carry, that's not going to win you any games

The defense is getting better, got some pieces that takes time, yet you figure they not going at Bryant hardly at all - -Robinson , Booker , Burroughs coming along - -Berryhill is getting better although hurt right now Got some ways to go but they not weak. It was mentioned if we could take a touchdown off the boards this eason would be worth a Couple of more wins and they are doing that.

A lot of this is because our offense is killing us with their dam untimely penalties. It's not just how many we are getting but it's also WHEN we are getting them. They costing us points when were driving, plus on top of those offense being careless with maintaining ball control - - fumbling and such.- -Stupid penalties putting the offense in bad hole costing us big yardage starting drives - -if the Offense would stop making costly stupid penalties a couple of these games would of been much worse - - we are going to be fine

Oct 07, 2023 11:05 AM #88

Oct 07, 2023 12:29 PM #89

@KirkIsMyHinrich They looked like they were trying to me. Trying to lose! 4th and long on your own 26 with 13 minutes to go??? Genius play calling Coach K. Love it!

@nuleafjhawk That guy should be coach of the year. He believes in his team so much that he does that.

Oct 08, 2023 03:28 PM #95

Y’all see the Miami game ending? 3rd down in plus territory 38 seconds to go. Instead of kneeling( 40 second play clock) they run it and fumble it. GT takes over and gets a touchdown to win. One of the biggest coaching blunders so far this season.

It just reinforced the thread I made earlier. -We have some really bad teams in this league. - -WV is a pretender, hell they couldn't even win when there was only 12 seconds left. - -Like I said it ws like neither tteam really wanted to win or knew how to win.- - -The amount of points put up tells you the defense was really bad, for Houston to score 41 points against a P-5 ? - -sheesh.

Their last score should of never happened- -but comical lol

Stanford Colorado šŸ‘€

Oct 14, 2023 05:12 AM #102

Colorado working on blowing a 29-0 halftime lead. Stanford has down to 3 points with 12 minutes left.

Oct 14, 2023 05:29 AM #103

So apparently I don't understand the rule about a kickoff going out of bounds in the college game. Colorado squib kicks after they go up 10, ball ends up going out around the 5 yard line and Stanford only gets the ball on the 20? I always thought the penalty for that was the ball on the 35. It doesn't seem right that kicking the ball out of bounds is more rewarding than a touchback is.

Oct 14, 2023 05:31 AM #104

I know what the kickoff penalty was. Stanford got a penalty for roughing the long snapper on the PAT and the penalty was applied on the kickoff.

Oct 14, 2023 06:14 AM #113

And Colorado has blown a 29-0 halftime lead to lose 46-43 to Stanford in double OT.

Oct 14, 2023 06:21 AM #114

That pick was so, so bad. Man you gotta rifle that into the 10th row. Also maybe defend 13 a bit but hey

Oct 14, 2023 12:38 PM #115

Well I guess that's why it's true that teams just have to play the games: Stanford was given no chance to beat Colorado, but prevailed in OT. I didn't stay up for the game and I'm not a Sanders hater, but I do think Colorado is being given way too much attention by the media. Yes, Colorado upset TCU, but the attention to Colorado is as overdone as the attention to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey.

UCF up 6 over OU with 13 minutes left. Generally outplaying OU.

Oct 21, 2023 07:01 PM #117

Please God, let this be UCF's first B12 win.

Do we really want OU coming into Lawrence pissed off after losing to UCF?

Oct 21, 2023 07:20 PM #119

I expect them to be sharp in Lawrence whether they win or lose, so they might as well lose.

What an awful playcall on that 2pt conversion

No, I don't think so.

Oct 21, 2023 11:45 PM #123

Houston 1000% got screwed on that spot. the RB had made the 1st for sure. would of give them a 1st & goal. - -Not saying by any means would of won the gam ,But who knows what happens with Ewers out of the game. Think for sure it would of went OT, then after that all bets off. - -They got screwed.

Oct 21, 2023 11:53 PM #124

Screwed they got!🤬

Oct 22, 2023 12:58 PM #125

@jayballer67 It's because their uniforms were red and not burnt orange

Boy isn't that the truth. - -The Houston RB had clearly gotten inside the 9 yard line with his forward progress just total BS

Oct 22, 2023 03:03 PM #127

Has anyone heard anything about JD-6 this week ? - -how he is progressing , not sure if it will make a huge difference but our chances are better if he can go then not. Just wondering if anyone had heard anything about him or not.

Oct 22, 2023 08:36 PM #128

@jayballer67 saw rumblings that he will play barring another set back. But can’t remember where I saw it.

Texas is really trying to give this game to KState. Crazy number of mistakes.

Nov 04, 2023 06:56 PM #130

Absolutely embarrassing. This should be 3 scores for UT

Nov 04, 2023 07:05 PM #131

I went out back to do some picking up for winter it was 27-7 comeback in and it’s tied at 27 all in about 5 game minutes

Nov 04, 2023 07:06 PM #132

Do we need ksu to win?

Nov 04, 2023 07:08 PM #133

@Crimsonorblue22 just the opposite

Nov 04, 2023 07:28 PM #134

Hahahahahahahaha oh kickers

Nov 04, 2023 07:29 PM #135

Great drive by KSU...right up to the field goal.

Nov 04, 2023 08:26 PM #136

@Crimsonorblue22 There is NEVER a time we need K-State to win. Very never.

Nov 04, 2023 09:04 PM #137

KState got a break since Quinn Ewers is out. The backup QB Murphy didn't look good at all.

Nov 04, 2023 10:18 PM #138

I don't know how we get in. Looks impossible, even if we win out.

Ya me neither. I don't think anyway possible we reach championship game. I think we can go 3-1 in our final four - -have a great year and a really nice bowl. - - were getting there though

Nov 04, 2023 10:42 PM #140

Missou is putting up a good fight, but I'm all in on a Dawgs victory.

KU needs help and all of this is based on KU winning out.

OSU and Texas both have the tiebreaker over KU and would need to lose twice. A KSU win over Texas today would've helped KU a lot. Texas has to drop 2 of 3 to BYU, ISU, and Texas Tech for KU to jum them.

OSU is going to beat OU which is also bad for Kansas because now KU needs OSU to drop two of three to UCF, Houston, and BYU for KU to jump them.

Texas and Oklahoma St. seems like the most likely title game match up at this point if KU were to win out. If KU loses, Iowa St. is very much in the conversation because they beat OSU and have that tiebreaker over the Cowboys.

So bottom line, it's very unlikely KU reaches the B12 title game because it's very unlikely Texas or OSU lose 2 of their last 3 and that's assuming KU wins out.

Nov 04, 2023 11:20 PM #142

@Texas-Hawk-10 my youngest kept telling me we need ksu to win. Texas looks completely different w/Murphy! JD didn't even make trip!

Nov 05, 2023 03:21 AM #143

@stoptheflop KSU beating Texas would’ve helped us because we can still beat KSU. OU beating OSU also would’ve helped us.

Nov 05, 2023 03:22 AM #144

@Texas-Hawk-10 it all depends on whom else wins and loses. Not sure what the tie breaker is but could potentially see 3 or 4 2 loss teams in 2nd place.

Nov 05, 2023 03:33 AM #145

It sucks we played the top 3.

Nov 05, 2023 03:44 AM #146

@Crimsonorblue22 Right now we have played 6 of the top 8 conference teams and one of those 8 is us. I personally think OSU and KSU got unbelievably great draws schedule wise

Nov 05, 2023 11:40 AM #147

@kjayhawks Just remember we made the Orange Bowl with Reesing largely because we didn’t play OU that year and MU had to play them in the B12 champ. (Always infuriates MU fans to casually mention that, BTW. )

Big 12 Tiebreakers ↗

It doesn't sound like it'll end up being too complicated at this point. KU is very unlikely to make it to Dallas because the two losses are to the two teams ahead of them. KU would need at least one of them to lose 2 of their last 3. Texas might actually be the better bet right now with Ewers out because they still have to play in Ames in 2 weeks. Their other two games are at TCU next weekend and Texas Tech Thanksgiving weekend.

OSU meanwhile has 3 games against newcomers left at UCF, at Houston, and BYU. I don't see them dropping two of those three games so I would call OSU the safest bet to make Dallas right now.

There are 5 teams currently tied for third with a 4-2 record. Two of those teams will lose at least one more time guaranteed because Oklahoma and West Virginia play next weekend in Norman, and KU and KSU play in two week in Lawrence. KU is in a good spot against all of those teams because we have the tiebreaker over OU and ISU because of our head to head wins and over WVU because of a better overall record. If we end up with the same record as KSU, then we have lost at least one more game.

Bottom line is it would be very unlikely for KU to make the Big 12 title game at this point.

Nov 05, 2023 01:47 PM #149

@Crimsonorblue22 Don't be too disappointed if we don't. Unless you were thinking we had a shot at it back in August....

Nov 05, 2023 02:06 PM #150

@mayjay That process that gave us the Orange Bowl instead of them has always amused me. Basically it was we like KU better than MU even though MU deserves it more than KU.

Nov 05, 2023 02:46 PM #151

@nuleafjhawk I think we are right there, with osu. Just the missed offsides calls. I noticed they missed several calls against osu at home yesterday with ou. Blatant PI!

Nov 05, 2023 02:50 PM #152

@mayjay probably the only good thing I'll remember about Lew!

Nov 06, 2023 01:07 AM #153

@Crimsonorblue22 @mayjay @nuleafjhawk I actually see why we were chosen over them, they had 2 losses to our one. Our one loss was at neutral site to a top 10 team by one score with us missing 3 or 4 field goals. Missouri also lost to a good ranked team twice but got destroyed both times. I think we had a shot against OU that season if we beat Missouri. We went to Norman in the next season with no defense and they won by 10 and was possession game late.
