Now that FA signings are in full swing, let's look at what is happening with Royals and other clubs.

I was not expecting Royals to spend but they have been very busy and have signed several veteran players including pitchers.

They have long ways to go but if these pitchers perform well, with solid group of core players, Royals can surprise, recall Rangers went from worst to World series champs.

Dec 19, 2023 08:45 PM #2

Shocking!

Feb 05, 2024 08:34 PM #3

Royals signed Witt Jr to 11 yr $288.8M deal.

Feb 06, 2024 12:10 AM #4

Finally! Got rid of the tightwad

@Crimsonorblue22 said in 2024 MLB Season:

Sounds like the ownership is spending money so they have a competitive team to fill the new stadium when it opens.

Feb 06, 2024 12:41 PM #6

They have spent over $100M in FA signings this year to make them competitive, unheard of in recent years.

Feb 06, 2024 02:36 PM #7

It appears they are just trying to get public support for a new downtown stadium. Once they get the tax dollars we shall see if ownership continues to spend money on the team.

Feb 13, 2024 04:13 AM #8

Crossroads it is

Feb 13, 2024 04:55 PM #9

@FarmerJayhawk Is that the old KC Star printing press location?

Feb 13, 2024 09:28 PM #10

@dylans I believe so

Mar 08, 2024 08:57 PM #11

Brad Keller has signed a minor league deal with While Sox @wissox

Mar 09, 2024 02:12 PM #12

@AsadZ It's part of a running joke around here with "Kansas City White Sox" being the general punch line. Rich Getz, Pedro Grifol, Nicky Lopez, now Brad Keller, I forget whom else, but rebuilding the team with KC discards doesn't seem to be the best plan for future success! (no offense Royals fans!)

Mar 09, 2024 10:43 PM #13

@wissox You’re supposed to to the Yankee thing and overpay the Royals free agents so the home team can’t retain the good talent they’ve developed.

Mar 10, 2024 01:24 AM #14

@dylans Yeah, we're just like the Yankees. I think I heard there's two teams that have never given a 100 million$ contract, and the Sox are one of them.

Mar 11, 2024 01:25 AM #15

@wissox Who’s the second team? Cincinnati? I think the Royals signed Bobby Witt to a huge deal.

Mar 11, 2024 11:36 AM #16

@dylans I thought I'd heard the A's. Yes the Royals were on that list until the Witt signing.

Mar 23, 2024 01:41 PM #17

I was hoping Pratto was in the roster instead of Minors

Also I would have liked to see Lynch get 5th spot in the rotation instead of Marsh

Mar 28, 2024 03:08 AM #18

Never been so uninterested in a Sox season opener than I am right now.

Apr 01, 2024 12:14 AM #19

After scoring 2 runs in first two games Royals had an outburst scoring 11 runs with 5 HRs.

Witt Jr had a big night.

Singer was solid, looked like an ace.

Apr 04, 2024 12:01 PM #20

Two blown saves already, yikessss.

Instead of 3-3 Royals are 2-4.

Ragans was electric, sorry to see him not getting W.

Apr 09, 2024 09:23 PM #21

While it is early, Royals starting pitching is looking solid.

Bullpen is okay but back end needs to shore up a bit.

Hitting is work in progress.

Overall, much better than last year.

Top this play!

Apr 12, 2024 09:40 PM #23

It is early but Royals are becoming entertaining, on a 7 game winning streak.

Apr 13, 2024 06:00 PM #24

Will Smith has been a disappointment so far, cannot get outs.

Apr 13, 2024 06:25 PM #25

@AsadZ At least he hasn’t slapped anyone…

May 12, 2024 06:01 PM #26

Royals are half a game behind first place Indians.

Are they legit or an aberration?

I think starting pitching is solid but hitting is mediocre, need much better production from outfielders.

Bullpen is so so, can definitely use an upgrade.

I am enjoying the ride tho, hope they can continue on the winning path.

Jun 02, 2024 12:50 PM #27

Royals are back to doing Royals types of things.

Bullpen is a mess.

Lower batting order cannot find a hit.

Jun 08, 2024 01:57 AM #28

Royals came back from 8-0. Still down 9-7, top of 7. My kid from Lawrence and gson are there, ksu pm.🤮. Ksu lost their bb game. Gson got a ball from Lowry, our pitcher who gave up 7 runs in the 1st inning! 🤣 it's lynch not Lowry. 🤨

Jun 08, 2024 02:48 AM #29

The boys are playing some ball!

Jun 08, 2024 09:58 AM #30

@AsadZ Royals doing some 1985/2015 Royals-type comeback things!

Jun 08, 2024 10:24 PM #31

Another comeback W today!

Jun 09, 2024 12:16 PM #32

I like it.

I think they need to strengthen bullpen and add another outfielder/bat to catch up Cleveland.

Jun 13, 2024 03:50 PM #34

@AsadZ said in 2024 MLB Season:

ya the Royals been playing well this Season, now I'm not here to start anything as most know I'm a NY life time fan, not here tryin to rile up anyone, giving credit where credit is due KC doing well - - Just Ny having a good year also -so far , in a dofg fight with Baltimore. got to admit my goodness Stanton and Judge have had some moon shots in this series. -436 ft - 445 ft and 449 ft those are some blasts

Jun 17, 2024 12:09 PM #35

Royals starting pitching has been grounded after a solid start, June has not been kind.

They have played high caliber teams in past few weeks but still just sayin.

You have to compete with the best to play baseball in October.

Jun 26, 2024 12:17 PM #36

Royals hitting is getting into "awful" category.

They cannot hit and score Runs....

Jun 26, 2024 12:26 PM #37

@AsadZ Need to regain their mojo. Hope it wasn’t just lucky timing on the run production earlier in the season.

Jun 26, 2024 07:32 PM #38

I hope so

The season is long but I hope they don’t get into a massive gap to catch up with Guardians who are smoking hot and playing really well.

Jun 26, 2024 08:51 PM #39

@AsadZ I would be surprised if they caught Cleveland. Wild card I hope.

Jul 01, 2024 07:24 PM #40

It was nice to win series 3-1, starting pitching was very solid in the series.

I am extremely impressed with Guardians scouting, farm and development system, year in and year out they are in contention without signing expensive FAs.

Jul 07, 2024 12:10 PM #41

Royals have forgotten how to hit, very frustrating to see them lose games when hitters can't score runs wasting solid effort provided by starting pitchers.

Jul 14, 2024 11:50 AM #42

Royals traded for Harvey from Nationals for bullpen depth giving #2 prospect Caden Wallace and #39 draft pick.

What do you think about this trade?

Also, whatever happened to Jordan Lyles?

Jul 14, 2024 04:58 PM #43

@AsadZ sounds like prior to the Nats he was constantly injured. From The Athletic:

Harvey’s so accustomed to being associated with injuries that he routinely takes digs at himself and his unfortunately brittle history. There was Tommy John surgery in 2016; a fluke shoulder injury in 2018 when he tried to get out of the way of a foul ball in Bowie’s dugout; and oblique, lat and triceps issues in 2021.

He has never made excuses about the injuries, but the reality is he couldn’t stay healthy as an Oriole. Even when he felt good, there was always that feeling of “what’s next?”

Also seems to have good stuff and a good attitude.

Jul 14, 2024 05:03 PM #44

Just 10 years ago, the Royals were at the top of the MLB. It's been a while now, but not so long that I can't remember how sweet those 2014 and 2015 Royals were.

Aug 25, 2024 06:20 PM #45

Entering into final month, can Royals keep pace and get into playoffs. They have a tough schedule ahead of them.

While Erceg has been lights out and an excellent addition at deadline, bullpen is still a mess.

Singer seems to be regressing.

I'd sit Garcia and play newly acquired Dejong over him.

Aug 25, 2024 07:49 PM #46

@AsadZ I'm not really sure if Dejong can cut the mustard

Aug 28, 2024 03:18 AM #47

KC now tied for 1st. Best record in AL since the All Star break.

Aug 28, 2024 03:35 AM #48

Kickin rear!🙏🤞

Aug 28, 2024 11:30 AM #49

The boys are playing some ball!💪🏼😎

Aug 28, 2024 12:50 PM #50

Witt, Pasquantonio and Perez have been rolling, more than 90 RBIs for all of them, I think it is a record.

If bullpen can hold I like KC Royals chances to win the division, I could have never imagined this earlier.

Kudos to Piccolo and Quatraro,

Aug 28, 2024 02:24 PM #51

Who was the pitcher that left with hammy issues? Ugh, stretching a lil at first.

Aug 28, 2024 03:20 PM #52

1st place!

Aug 28, 2024 04:58 PM #53

The boys are playing some ball

Aug 28, 2024 06:21 PM #54

@Crimsonorblue22 Lorenzen, hopefully he does not miss more than one start.

Aug 28, 2024 09:43 PM #55

I am hearing that he is going on 15-day IL so it is not looking that good.

Aug 30, 2024 03:16 PM #56

Pasquantonio out for the year and with Lorenzen and Renfro on IL, Royals chances of winning the division took a major blow.

Hopefully they can get WC spot.

Aug 30, 2024 06:20 PM #57

What happened? My bro and his wife are going to all the games in Houston. Did it happen last pm? Dang, they can step up!

Aug 30, 2024 08:31 PM #58

@Crimsonorblue22 It was a tragedy of errors. Astros on 1st and 2nd, hot comebacker up the middle that pitcher Erceg tries to barehand but only knocks it down (would have been DP if fielded), he gets ball and throws wide to Pasq at 1st, whose hand or wrist gets blasted by the runner. Both Erceg and Pasq had to leave the game.

We're screwed.

Sep 01, 2024 12:37 AM #60

With key injuries Wheels are falling off, Royals can't seem to score and pitching can only get you so far.

I’m still hoping Royals can get into playoffs as a wildcard team.

Sep 01, 2024 01:08 PM #61

KC signed couple of veterans yesterday to bolster lineup, hopefully change of scenery will provide a spark....

Sep 09, 2024 09:09 PM #62

Big series coming up against mighty NY Yankees, hoping for at least winning two games in this one, sorry @jayballer54

Sep 09, 2024 09:55 PM #63

for what it's worth here is my prediction for world series match up.----I think the ALCS will be The Orioles/Astros, - -Then it will be the Orioles/Philles & I think Philadelphia will be world Champions.

Sep 11, 2024 06:15 PM #66

I’m so glad that Royals didn’t trade Salvy, he is heart and soul of this team and he has reached 100 RBIs, rare feat for a catcher.

He has struggled since All Star break

9-0 in 6th

Not a good day for me regarding sports

Sep 22, 2024 09:57 PM #82

Well another sweep at home, WC spot is not looking good now.

I cannot believe loss of Pasquantonio has impacted this team in such a disastrous manner.

While overachieving, when you get so close it hurts.

In the offseason, besides bullpen help, hope JJ can sign an outfielder and 3B who can hit and score some runs.

Sep 28, 2024 11:58 AM #83

Well Congrats to Royals for making playoffs after losing 106 games last year although I would have liked them to curb the celebration after being shut out.

It appears that KC will travel to Houston for WC games.

Sep 28, 2024 01:31 PM #84

Congrats to the White Sox for being the worst team ever.

Sep 28, 2024 02:47 PM #85

@AsadZ I can't imagine anyone begrudging the Royals celebrating long and hard. Facing losing their position after a 7 game losing streak, they shut out the Nationals twice and won the 3rd game with clutch hitting, putting their magic number at 1.

It's a season to be proud of, something no team has done before. And you would prefer they feel embarrassed?

Oct 01, 2024 03:51 AM #88

@approxinfinity We won 5 out of our last 6 sir and therefore our percentage is better than the 62 Mets and some other crappy team from way back!

Royals went 12-1 against us, like theyre not even a playoff team without the Sox! Funny thing is the Twins went 12-1 also against us but still couldn't turn it into a playoff berth. Detroit is also in playoffs because of us.

It's been a long two years on the south side, probably won't be much better next year either. I quit on the team and couldn't help but start watching again. Looking forward to the playoffs and seeing some teams win and lose.

Congratulations to KC for winning their wildcard--- HUGE WIN for them. This is all I can say on baseball, and the upcoming series between NY & KC , because no matte what I say or how I say it o try and word it not being or trying to be disrespectful , there are people here that will say well Yankees trying to buy another world series.& that I'm just trying to rub it in and being rude sooo - - -

The only thing that I could say in response to that is you will never convince me that IF - - -IF - -IF kc DID live in a market as big as NY's if they DID HAVE the kind of money for pay that NY has - -you can take it to the Bank that KC would do the identical same thing as your other big/huge markets do - -they would be spending just as much money on the Juan Soto's -Aaron Judge and other big time players - no different that NY and Dodgers and others our doing now. Finally again GREAT WIN -GREAT SERIES for Kc should be another very entertaining series between the two --- -GOOD luck , see how it turns out - that's all my friends -- ok, everyone go ahead and yell and unload I'm a big boy I can take it

Oct 02, 2024 11:42 PM #99

@AsadZ Now I know why the Sox lost so many games! ALC is a juggarnaut! What's funny is the Royals and Tigers probably don't make the playoffs if the Sox had offered up some resistance and won a few games against both of those teams.

Oct 02, 2024 11:57 PM #100

@jayballer67 Nah, no yelling. But your statement [that IF the Royal had the same market as NYY (which really means equal revenue resources) they also would spend heavily] makes a strong case for NFL-style revenue sharing.

No one has ever said small market teams spend less because they are better people who don't like money. Sure, they'd spend, but NYY and LAD can afford to spend far more than their competitors. They aren't more moral either.

It is an inherent flaw in the competitive structure that makes it harder for small-market teams, which is largely why the NFL is now more popular .... revenue sharing and a hard salary cap have done a lot to keep teams more equally competitive.

Except for Jacksonville, it seems.😉

Yup, Close game

That safe call on 2B tho...

Oct 06, 2024 12:28 PM #114

Replay official totally botches Chisholm call, missing two times he was actually out on the same replay. Witts last at bat shoulda been a walk, but ump punches him out. Apparently Dodgers winning a suspect replay challenge. MLB wants Judge-Ohtani so badly they're willing to look really bad to make sure it happens.

Oct 06, 2024 02:33 PM #115

@wissox wow just saw that play. Obviously bad call goes the Evil Empires way, fancy that!

Oct 06, 2024 03:37 PM #116

That one play was not the reason NY won but it was a crucial play given Yanks won by one run

Royals pitching gave too many walks, uncharacteristic of them

Oct 06, 2024 04:40 PM #117

@AsadZ Yes there's many plays in any game, but when a call occurs that allows a run to score when the inning would have ended means it was really a crucial blown call.

@approxinfinity Huge Mahomes fan - yeah he is one of only a handful of pro athletes to own a portion of a pro team. Brady will join him soon with a 10% stake in the Raiders.

Oct 13, 2024 04:00 PM #129

@dylans :) think you read same story I did about Brady, yep.

@approxinfinity Patrick throws out the first pitch at a Royals game about every year partially for this reason, mostly because they want to see the the star QB. His wife, Brittany is an owner of the Current (women’s soccer team) they are very invested. Built a new home (it’s not too shabby) in KC this last year too.

@dylans nice!

I always wonder how it works being a 1% owner of something. Are you allowed in on board meetings? Do you get any cash flow from it?

I’ll make a point of not watching any of a NY LA series and look forward to not remembering who won a month from now.

Epic meltdown, just piss poor, they had the Dodgers right where they needed. As good as Aaron was in the regular Season and no one can deny that he was the best period BUT Aaron Judge is a complete failure in Post Season, I've seen it before

He is NOT even close salary wise in the play offs. -Then he amazes routine fly ball I mean a toddler could do better,- -then Volpe right play but short arms a throw to 3rd look like he used a 2x4 for an arm during that play. This kind of thing showed it's ugly head before during the Season -- BUT 3 fricken Tee-Ball plays in the same inning ?that play

LA scored 5 runs in the fifth not a single run was earned. When that happened Cole fell apart, lost all focus, and fricken Bone just stood there spitting seeds fricken bone head. --They had their chance LA was dead in this game before that- -showed absolute no signs of life --all you had to do was catch a routine fly dum ass lol

$765M for Soto

That's a lot of coin

Dec 09, 2024 09:47 PM #143

I'm sorry as sad as I am to see him leave the Yankees , I can't blame him. If ANY owner is willing to pay a player that much then hell ya why shouldn't he

I'm sorry there is nobody worth that type of money- - - -nobody period. When you stop and think about it, that's a hell of a lot more money then the President of United Stated gets paid - - -what's wrong with that picture, you think about all the tough decisions on trying to run the country the stress of being the President all the obligations , decisions and such and then you have a guy that is making that much money playing in a game that he loves, no way does that begin to compare.

Yet as long as these owners are going to keep throwing that kind of money out to these guys then it's just going to keep getting worse.

Bottom line who is it that suffers the most from things such as this? - -Us - - w the fans are the one's who end up getting screws the most, the owners pay these idiotic salaries and then as one way of getting their money back -- just continue to jack the prices up on tickets, parking , concessions , and whatever else and it's the fan that gets screwed. what's going to happen somewhere along the line is they are going to end up pricing themselves right out of the market sooner or later. the middle class and lower class people sure the hell can't afford the price of a game the way its moving now.

This is almost 2x what Aaron had signed for with Yanks couple of years ago

Dec 10, 2024 03:48 PM #145

@AsadZ ya, and much I like Aaron, he isn't worth what he makes either-- Nobody in sports deserves that kind of money

Dec 10, 2024 04:38 PM #146

It's vanity.

Get used to it in the age of the oligarchs.

Dec 10, 2024 04:41 PM #147

@SlimShaddy54 One of these days the public will wise up. Hopefully. QUIT GOING TO THE DAMN GAMES. Quit watching. Quit listening. Make it so they have to pay US to attend. It's 100% bullshit and it's wrong to pay athletes like this. Has anyone ever had a friend or family member who was a Firefighter or Policeman and was killed in the line of duty? Has a Doctor or Surgeon ever saved your life? Hell - even a Plumber or HVAC guy is more important than these overpaid, self absorbed asswipes. Don't think so? Wait until your toilet won't flush and your A/C breaks down when it's 102 outside.

I'm sick of professional athletes. But I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Dec 10, 2024 04:46 PM #148

@nuleafjhawk Exactly, here is a question you mentioned about a fireman's pay - -a policeman pay -- here is the 1,000 dollar question - how the hell do you put a number for the amount of money THESE GUYS make. how can you put a price on some ones life? - no way pro players should be making more then some one who puts their life on the line every minute of every day.

Dec 11, 2024 02:57 AM #149

Just a bit of history: Successful charioteers and gladiators in ancient Rome had huge followings of adoring fans (even graffiti on wall!) and were quite wealthy. Their "sports" were more dangerous than modern pro sports, of course, but the doctors, firemen, and centurions earned a mere pittance comparatively.

The love of sports, and iconization of athletes, is pretty universal across cultures and eras.

Dec 11, 2024 12:32 PM #150

@mayjay that's because people are inherently stupid
