McCullar out vs Baylor
Feb 10, 2024 08:45 PM #1

And the hits just keep comin

Feb 10, 2024 09:17 PM #2

I'd much rather sit McCullar now and let him get healthy than play him and have him play like shit again like he did against KSU.

Feb 10, 2024 09:22 PM #3

Yeah his knee clearly isn't right. Just get him healthy for March.

Feb 10, 2024 09:39 PM #4

Timberlake starting, NOT Elmarko.

Feb 10, 2024 10:31 PM #5

Heard Jamari is out too

Feb 10, 2024 10:37 PM #6

Jamari got the flu Coach just said. - -Hell listening to him not even sure if he will play Monday. -Coach was ask if Kevin just be listed day to day , his response was I have no idea

Feb 10, 2024 10:52 PM #7

Next man up!

LFG #ROCKCHALK

Feb 10, 2024 10:56 PM #8

Dog days of February it feels like. Teams trying to get right for the stretch drive.

Feb 10, 2024 10:57 PM #9

Jamari has the flu

Feb 10, 2024 10:59 PM #10

I'm listening to Brian Hanni and Gurley do intros

Feb 10, 2024 11:01 PM #11

7 scholarship players tonight 😳

Feb 10, 2024 11:02 PM #12

Haha, ESPN says our game is on ESPNews so I turn there and it's James Madison and Akron, which is there because ESPN2 is running over. So essentially ESPN thinks that game is bigger than our game. They might be right!

Feb 10, 2024 11:02 PM #13

@wissox me too

Feb 10, 2024 11:03 PM #14

Fouls on 3 point shooters I like.

Feb 10, 2024 11:05 PM #15

Hunt had diamond earrings on during game day!!

Feb 10, 2024 11:06 PM #16

Is Braun available?

Feb 10, 2024 11:06 PM #17

@wissox i hope so

Feb 10, 2024 11:06 PM #18

Feb 10, 2024 11:08 PM #20

Alright Alright Alright

Feb 10, 2024 11:08 PM #21

Kj nice feed, we do like playing at home

Feb 10, 2024 11:09 PM #22

Scott Drew, getting run out of AFH, death, taxes

Feb 10, 2024 11:09 PM #23

Very Nice KJ

Feb 10, 2024 11:09 PM #24

Said furphy was sick all week, didn't practice til Fri. Wonder if that didn't bother his game mon.

Feb 10, 2024 11:10 PM #25

We should have worn these clown unis at KState when we played like clowns

Feb 10, 2024 11:10 PM #26

Nice 3 Juan!

Feb 10, 2024 11:11 PM #27

Good start

Feb 10, 2024 11:12 PM #28

Does isu play anybody good at away places?

Feb 10, 2024 11:13 PM #29

Yet another steal, nice

Feb 10, 2024 11:14 PM #30

And 1

Feb 10, 2024 11:14 PM #31

And one more!

Feb 10, 2024 11:14 PM #32

Big hunt!

Feb 10, 2024 11:15 PM #33

And one more!!

Feb 10, 2024 11:16 PM #34

this the game thread?

Feb 10, 2024 11:17 PM #35

Yes dan

Feb 10, 2024 11:17 PM #36

I thought I saw CB in the stands

Feb 10, 2024 11:18 PM #37

Kj on fire

Feb 10, 2024 11:18 PM #38

KJ is killing that 9 footer

Feb 10, 2024 11:18 PM #39

Down goes Kentucky

Feb 10, 2024 11:18 PM #40

Maybe should KJ should pretend he's shooting a floater when he goes to the line

Feb 10, 2024 11:18 PM #41

Good Kentucky lost, another chance to gain a game on them in the most wins race.

Feb 10, 2024 11:18 PM #42

Very good intensity on the defensive end

Feb 10, 2024 11:18 PM #43

🦅👀

Feb 10, 2024 11:18 PM #44

Defense is locked in so far

Feb 10, 2024 11:19 PM #45

I still like the sunflower uni's

Feb 10, 2024 11:19 PM #46

the guys busting their ass off - -really hustling

Feb 10, 2024 11:19 PM #47

@DanR 3's next yr! That was a pretty one!🫶

Feb 10, 2024 11:19 PM #49

@stoptheflop it's for Black History Month. Honoring Stallworth

Feb 10, 2024 11:20 PM #50

@stoptheflop they're meaningful, better than lavender!

Feb 10, 2024 11:20 PM #51

8 mins in and Johnny hasn't launched one yet( except for the foul)

Feb 10, 2024 11:21 PM #52

This is the defense I thought we were capable of early in the season

Feb 10, 2024 11:21 PM #53

Baylor can barely run down the floor without falling down, so I'll give half of their problems to KU D!

Feb 10, 2024 11:22 PM #54

She's cool!💙❤️🌾🏀

Feb 10, 2024 11:22 PM #55

Nick the Brick needs to start making those

Feb 10, 2024 11:23 PM #56

Maybe nick should shoot a 2. He clearly can't make 3s

Feb 10, 2024 11:23 PM #57

Boo!

Feb 10, 2024 11:23 PM #58

Oops

Feb 10, 2024 11:24 PM #59

got a little ball along with the arm

Feb 10, 2024 11:24 PM #60

Well at least Kentucky lost. That always makes the day better

Feb 10, 2024 11:25 PM #61

Lil late

Feb 10, 2024 11:25 PM #62

Hunt with a nice long 3

Feb 10, 2024 11:26 PM #63

Both Furphy and Timberlake need to put in on the floor and drive when they are being played tight on the arc...

Feb 10, 2024 11:27 PM #64

@stoptheflop When I called them clown unis earlier I didn't realize I was insulting the entire state of Kansas! really didn't inspect them too closely to see what they were!

Feb 10, 2024 11:28 PM #65

Hunter got fouled

Feb 10, 2024 11:29 PM #66

Hunt missing 2 3s wisely went back under the basket and feasts

Feb 10, 2024 11:29 PM #67

Hunter was held

Feb 10, 2024 11:30 PM #68

Timeout was needed. Guys are gassed already

Feb 10, 2024 11:30 PM #69

I don’t mind hunter stepping out but gotta little trigger happy

Feb 10, 2024 11:31 PM #70

to be fair, Hunter's last three was in and out. He's killing it inside though, so just take the easy 2s

Feb 10, 2024 11:31 PM #71

@BeddieKU23 our conditioning is laughable at this point in season. Guys gassed 12 minutes into a game is not a good look in February.

Feb 10, 2024 11:31 PM #72

Jank may be needed

Feb 10, 2024 11:33 PM #73

Could find a hawk to walk with, Bilas?

Feb 10, 2024 11:34 PM #74

Marko's defense has been solid lately

Feb 10, 2024 11:34 PM #75

Made KU look good!

@KirkIsMyHinrich said in McCullar out vs Baylor:

My bad

Feb 10, 2024 11:34 PM #77

No EJ

Feb 10, 2024 11:35 PM #78

Juan 2 missed layups last one wide open. I guess just shoot the 3s

Feb 10, 2024 11:35 PM #79

dumb stretch the past 5 minutes

Feb 10, 2024 11:35 PM #80

Unacceptable

Feb 10, 2024 11:36 PM #81

Stupid T Bill

Feb 10, 2024 11:36 PM #82

Wow, our bench may have just gotten shorter for a while.

Feb 10, 2024 11:37 PM #83

OK, furph, do that more!

Feb 10, 2024 11:38 PM #84

Unbelievable is a T? Touchy refs

Feb 10, 2024 11:38 PM #85

Nick just jogging to the rim instead of boxing out his man, who gets the rebound

Feb 10, 2024 11:39 PM #86

Juando driving has not been great so far

Feb 10, 2024 11:39 PM #87

Nick is bad and Harris can’t make a layup. Gonna turn a blowout into a tight game if that doesn’t change.

Feb 10, 2024 11:39 PM #88

Harris hasn't had a free throw

Feb 10, 2024 11:40 PM #89

Pounce on the typo

Feb 10, 2024 11:40 PM #90

Put Jamari in take Nick out

Feb 10, 2024 11:41 PM #91

Jamari out flu

Feb 10, 2024 11:41 PM #92

put jank in for Nick

Feb 10, 2024 11:41 PM #93

@dylans said in McCullar out vs Baylor:

Jamari out flu

Put me in then

Feb 10, 2024 11:41 PM #94

Nick and Elmarko a disaster so far.

Feb 10, 2024 11:41 PM #95

Whistles are already too much

Feb 10, 2024 11:41 PM #96

I'm 12 blocks away and have only had a couple beers, put me in.

Feb 10, 2024 11:42 PM #97

This is why people get mad at Juando, multiple missed bunnies and was outta position on defense.

Feb 10, 2024 11:42 PM #98

Timberlake is such a terrible athlete can't win a single loose ball

Feb 10, 2024 11:43 PM #99

I think Nick needs to get his eyes checked. Seriously. Ball bounces off his face at least once a game.

Feb 10, 2024 11:43 PM #100

@rcjhdraft he looks like me at the YMCA, good only at the YMCA lol

Feb 10, 2024 11:44 PM #101

Wow, loved the cool fly by of AFH and the dorms to the west!

Feb 10, 2024 11:45 PM #102

I scored 2 points in a college game once, I might be able to contribute but I'm kind of far away.

Feb 10, 2024 11:45 PM #103

Elmarko has inexplicable mistakes but he's probably here for the future and his ceiling is higher I'd probably ride with him

Feb 10, 2024 11:45 PM #104

Bill doesn’t look happy

Feb 10, 2024 11:45 PM #105

Flop #2

Feb 10, 2024 11:46 PM #106

Put Dan in I'm tired of this

Feb 10, 2024 11:46 PM #107

Getting ugly fast

Feb 10, 2024 11:46 PM #108

Why are we forcing it inside?

Feb 10, 2024 11:46 PM #109

KJ needs to step up. He has spurts where he plays well on offense, then he disappears for 10-12 min

Feb 10, 2024 11:47 PM #110

Furphy seems to have hit the freshman wall and lost his shot. Hope he finds it quickly.

Feb 10, 2024 11:47 PM #111

Furphy needs to start making those 3s

Feb 10, 2024 11:47 PM #112

Gonna be a long few weeks folks

Feb 10, 2024 11:47 PM #113

Wow bad turn there, we look exhausted in the first half yet again.

Feb 10, 2024 11:47 PM #114

A couple guys need to step up in a hurry.

Feb 10, 2024 11:48 PM #115

At the beginning of the game we kind of expected ugly don't forget. Very shallow team today, hopped out to a nice start, which gave us hope, but it's limp into halftime right now and hope to come out strong in the 2nd half.

Feb 10, 2024 11:49 PM #116

Not sure how you can overturn it on replay. Too close to overturn

Feb 10, 2024 11:49 PM #117

Well if there is a recipe for us losing at home, this lineup might be an ingredient. Hope not tho

Feb 10, 2024 11:49 PM #118

hell of a block IMO

Feb 10, 2024 11:49 PM #119

The bench and Kevin's spot need to make up the missing eighteen. Zero so far.

Feb 10, 2024 11:50 PM #120

elmarko has to drive that

Feb 10, 2024 11:51 PM #121

Wanna be 3 point shooters

Feb 10, 2024 11:52 PM #122

Parker!

Feb 10, 2024 11:52 PM #123

Nice

Feb 10, 2024 11:52 PM #124

Sweet

Feb 10, 2024 11:52 PM #125

Good

Feb 10, 2024 11:53 PM #126

thought that was going in. Good play

Feb 10, 2024 11:53 PM #127

Damn furph was nervous there

Feb 10, 2024 11:54 PM #128

If we could hit a open 3 we’d be up 15 , about 6 wide open ones and we bricked all of them

Feb 10, 2024 11:54 PM #129

Josh Jackson birthday today

Marcus got traded to Spurs with devonte

Feb 10, 2024 11:54 PM #130

Wow never seen a team try to prevent the 2 for 1 by holding the ball for 5 seconds before inbounding. Baylor did that.

Feb 10, 2024 11:55 PM #131

@RockChalkinTexas Josh Jackson is a lowlife.

Feb 10, 2024 11:56 PM #132

2-11 from 3, Juan missed two layups, and we were getting killed on the boards the latter part of the half, but still up 6...

Feb 10, 2024 11:57 PM #133

Reset. Time to regroup.

Feb 10, 2024 11:57 PM #134

Furph needs to start making 3s, tho he is doing everything else pretty well. DJ needs to flash us some of the old brilliance. Bill needs to stop getting technicals. Hunt needs to stay close to the basket and not foul. Someone, anyone, on the bench needs to look like they belong on the floor. Any of these and we should win.

Feb 10, 2024 11:57 PM #135

Really need Timberlake and Jackson to give us something, anything...

Feb 11, 2024 12:01 AM #136

That UCF loss is looking pretty bad with how they’re playing

Feb 11, 2024 12:02 AM #137

@StLJhawk said in McCullar out vs Baylor:

The timing of some of these techs has been absolutely brutal. The Iowa state one swung the game end of first half

Feb 11, 2024 12:02 AM #138

We aren't very good at drawing fouls and getting to the line. Furphy is 6-6. Rest of team has 1 FTA - Hunter, who missed. Baylor has 2 guys with 12 FTAs...

Feb 11, 2024 12:04 AM #139

@rcjhdraft yes, and unexpected from a HOF coach, wonder what the deal is?

Feb 11, 2024 12:04 AM #140

2 guys I never get mad at on this team, KJ and Furphy. Both play theirs asses off everytime they hit the court

Feb 11, 2024 12:04 AM #141

I thought the T was on ElMarko

Feb 11, 2024 12:05 AM #142

Radio says T was on KU bench.

Feb 11, 2024 12:05 AM #143

I'm afraid the guys are going to come out with dead legs this 2nd half

Feb 11, 2024 12:06 AM #144

@wissox said in McCullar out vs Baylor:

Radio says T was on KU bench.

Pretty soft if true

Feb 11, 2024 12:06 AM #145

I thought the T was because Bill said “unbelievable “ which seems really lame

Feb 11, 2024 12:06 AM #146

They said in the game that the T was on Self. If it was for BS saying “unbelievable” that is extremely soft.

Feb 11, 2024 12:08 AM #147

@rcjhdraft The problem with live chatting and listening to radio while watching TV is I hardly ever know what's going on because I have too much going on, so I really didn't see the foul or why the T was called. Radio did say it was a pretty thin skinned referee tech.

Feb 11, 2024 12:09 AM #148

Wonder if there was other stuff leading up to the T we didn’t hear?

Feb 11, 2024 12:10 AM #149

Yeah, I'm guess the "unbelievable" was a few seconds after Self got the T for dropping a few F bombs.

Feb 11, 2024 12:11 AM #150

Crowd needs to come alive

Feb 11, 2024 12:11 AM #151

@DanR that’s my guess too

Feb 11, 2024 12:11 AM #152

Furph!

Feb 11, 2024 12:13 AM #153

Soft foul from KJ

Feb 11, 2024 12:13 AM #154

Another DJ bunny miss, ouch

Feb 11, 2024 12:15 AM #155

Predictable turnover we always overthrow those full court passes

Feb 11, 2024 12:15 AM #156

JEEZ

Feb 11, 2024 12:15 AM #157

HUNTER, WTF

Feb 11, 2024 12:15 AM #158

Another hunt bunny miss and an open 3 for them, ouch

Feb 11, 2024 12:15 AM #159

HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO MISS SO MANY 1 & 2 FT EASY BUNNY SHOT/LAYUPS

Feb 11, 2024 12:16 AM #160

hunter makes those most of the time (and makes shots I think he'll miss for sure) so I'll cut him some slack

Feb 11, 2024 12:17 AM #161

we must be shooting about 40% since the first 10 minutes

Feb 11, 2024 12:17 AM #162

Better wake up here

Feb 11, 2024 12:19 AM #163

Looks like coach had a word with Juando

Feb 11, 2024 12:20 AM #164

Dunk the damn ball

Feb 11, 2024 12:20 AM #165

Ack, 3rd hunt bunny miss

Feb 11, 2024 12:21 AM #166

@StLJhawk the missed wide open 3s and bunnies are at about 15 right now. The only reason it’s a contest

Feb 11, 2024 12:21 AM #167

We’re lucky they’ve turned it over 14 times or we’d be in serious trouble

Feb 11, 2024 12:22 AM #168

Does HD have a dislocated finger or something these misses are crazy

Feb 11, 2024 12:22 AM #169

@kjayhawks said in McCullar out vs Baylor:

Dunk the damn ball

Is he even capable f doing that - -KJ needs to show him how to finish, couldn't ask for better positioning /seal

Feb 11, 2024 12:23 AM #170

If somebody gets even semi-hot on either team, it probably sways this game. Hope it’s us!

Feb 11, 2024 12:25 AM #171

way to Be aggressive EJ

Feb 11, 2024 12:25 AM #172

An FT and a bench point, nice

Feb 11, 2024 12:26 AM #173

KJ

Feb 11, 2024 12:26 AM #174

Big Dave move there by KJ

Feb 11, 2024 12:27 AM #175

Kj had his 15 min quiet time, now let’s see him go

Feb 11, 2024 12:27 AM #176

Really poor effort on the TO and then getting back by Jackson...

Feb 11, 2024 12:28 AM #177

Good foul, ElMarko

Feb 11, 2024 12:28 AM #178

DJ for 3 finally!!

Feb 11, 2024 12:29 AM #179

What???

Feb 11, 2024 12:29 AM #180

Another 3 and from the bench, finally!

Feb 11, 2024 12:29 AM #181

AFH pulled that shot in for Nick

Feb 11, 2024 12:30 AM #182

Bench has like 7 points, I think everyone in this building was like go in!!

Feb 11, 2024 12:30 AM #183

There we go

Feb 11, 2024 12:30 AM #184

Atta Boy Nick - -mercy why can't he be like that a little more - -Huge shot

Feb 11, 2024 12:30 AM #185

Need to add to it!!

Feb 11, 2024 12:31 AM #186

I think I've read corner threes are more accurate overall than any other spot on the floor.

Feb 11, 2024 12:32 AM #187

@wissox love the corner shot, I hit 37 in a row in practice once.

Feb 11, 2024 12:32 AM #188

I always preferred the wing spot or top of the key when shooting 3's. Maybe that's why I didn't go pro

Feb 11, 2024 12:32 AM #189

That three by Nick is the only positive stat on the box score for Nick. zeros across the line except for TO's and fouls.

Feb 11, 2024 12:34 AM #190

Furphy disruptive on D today. 5 steals it says.

Feb 11, 2024 12:35 AM #191

good foul nick

Feb 11, 2024 12:36 AM #192

Wow can't believe elmarko got away with that

Feb 11, 2024 12:36 AM #193

shooting from his foot

Feb 11, 2024 12:36 AM #194

Not a shooting foul. Radio guys going nuts.

Feb 11, 2024 12:37 AM #195

This is nick's good five minutes this month

Feb 11, 2024 12:37 AM #196

He is athletic

Feb 11, 2024 12:37 AM #197

17 turnovers, whew

Feb 11, 2024 12:38 AM #198

Good D guys

Feb 11, 2024 12:38 AM #199

Good call🙂

Feb 11, 2024 12:38 AM #200

Great D. Unlucky bounces on missed bricks

Feb 11, 2024 12:39 AM #201

Make that 18

Feb 11, 2024 12:39 AM #202

Wow, didn't look at score. Not realizing we're up 10

Feb 11, 2024 12:39 AM #203

KJ is 5/5; I sure wish he would shoot more

Feb 11, 2024 12:39 AM #204

Such a nice move

Feb 11, 2024 12:39 AM #205

That would have been a top 5 play

Feb 11, 2024 12:39 AM #206

Anyone remember Selden dunking against these guys?

Feb 11, 2024 12:40 AM #207

And Thomas Robinson at home

Feb 11, 2024 12:40 AM #208

Hunt finding the bunnies again

Feb 11, 2024 12:41 AM #209

Big man is back

Feb 11, 2024 12:41 AM #210

Who needs McCullar

Feb 11, 2024 12:42 AM #211

We need someone to rebound the ball. Would be up by 20...

Feb 11, 2024 12:42 AM #212

Kev needed a day off

Feb 11, 2024 12:42 AM #213

Timber finally getting hot

Feb 11, 2024 12:43 AM #214

nick couldve wouldve shoulve

We have a 19-7 TO advantage. Would think we would be up 20+ with that differential. Problem is they are getting so many second and third chances and getting to the FT a lot more...

Feb 11, 2024 12:47 AM #227

19 Turnovers, that is some good D

Feb 11, 2024 12:48 AM #228

We got 15 steals they have 5

@BeddieKU23 I will eventually. I always watch the phoenix golf thing, need a break from TV and start watching around 2nd quarter. No reason to watch the whole game really!

Feb 11, 2024 01:12 AM #308

For how much I liked nicks game boy he tried his best to give it away by leaving the shooter and bricking the free ones

Feb 11, 2024 01:13 AM #309

Nick shoots like he is the best option. Someone needs to open his eyes to what a good shot is. 3/4 a season on the bench hasn’t done it, so I’m not sure what will.

Rock Chalk. Need a win Monday at Tech.

Feb 11, 2024 01:16 AM #319

@DanR Pretty decent win I think when we play without two guys, one the leading scorer in the league.

Kansas gets all the calls they say. Not tonight. Baylor shot more FT's. Foul #'s were even I think. Bill Self is a great coach. Scott Drew is too.

Feb 11, 2024 01:17 AM #320

I think drew has it in his head he can't win here!

Feb 11, 2024 01:18 AM #321

@DanR If I know Scott Drew they did pray, but if I know Scott Drew he didn't pray that they'd win either.

@Crimsonorblue22 I think he has more losses in the building than Self, believe he is 1-20

Feb 11, 2024 01:22 AM #323

The chances of us winning without Juan and Kevin have to minuscule

Feb 11, 2024 01:30 AM #324

Sure sounds like were gonna be without McCullar and quite possibly Juan both Monday - - Geez- -McCullar hasn't practiced so sure sounds like he is out. - Then how much is Juans ankle gonna swell up in the next 48 hours - -we are so beat up

Feb 11, 2024 01:51 AM #325

Bill is extremely unhappy with the mental errors it sounds.

Feb 11, 2024 02:17 AM #326

I’m thinking maybe Nick had high bball iq at the end there. Way harder to make a wide open clutch shot than a guarded one. Give them all the time in the world to think about it. This is also why Nick takes every guarded 3 he can. Knows instinctively they are better shots.

Feb 11, 2024 02:23 AM #327

Ugly win, but it's a win. KU only scored 41 points over the last 30 minutes of the game.

-17 in rebounds, only 11 assists on 24 made FG's, Elmarko played 21 minutes and did not attempt a shot officially and Parker took 2 FG's in 8 minutes. 2 FG's attempts in 29 minutes from the bench is just terrible.

Also, why did KU not adjust to the drive and kick Baylor ran ad nauseum tonight? KU was lucky Baylor was shooting like garbage tonight too.

Feb 11, 2024 03:23 AM #328

@Texas-Hawk-10 this team just looks ugly 90% of the time at this point. Tonight is a little bit different in terms of missing our leading scorer and I’m glad we won a gutsy performance. But my gosh you are a 100% correct this maybe the worst bench in the Self era. 2019 and 2012 come to mind but I think this worse. I know people compare this team to the 19 team a fair amount but I think this team would destroy that team by a wide margin.

Feb 11, 2024 03:27 AM #329

I really hope we can go undefeated at home this season, feels like it’s been way too long since that happened. I believe we have 3 games left against Texas, BYU and KSU. We have definitely already played our toughest home games on paper but we all know how this team loves to play down to competition. Oddly enough I think that 2019 team was the last to go unbeaten in the Phog.

Feb 11, 2024 03:42 AM #330

Self is really unhappy with Timberlake. Who’s next up after El Marko? Should Jank get some run?

2019 was a very young team. Dotson, Grimes, Agbaji, and McCormack were all freshmen that season, Marcus Garrett was a sophomore, and Dedric Lawson was a first year player for Self. Lagerald Vick was the only upper classmam in tge rotation that season that came up theough Self's system. That team also had more depth than this team because they had to deal with Doke's injury and Vick getting kicked off the team. That team had Ochai Agbaji redshirting to start the year. That team also had the better bench by far because there was at least some production on a nightly basis.

Feb 11, 2024 04:02 AM #332

@Gorilla72 said in McCullar out vs Baylor:

Self is really unhappy with Timberlake. Who’s next up after El Marko? Should Jank get some run?

There's a reason Timberlake was at Towson and not a high major. KU is still going to need another shooter next season, and it would be preferable if that shooter came from another high major program where his shooting stats should translate pretty well.

Feb 11, 2024 04:16 AM #333

@Gorilla72 He was mad at Nick for having too quick of a trigger after his first 3 make. In the inside access Self was saying move the ball for 20 seconds. He also was the guy that gave up multiple corner 3s, we were fortunate they missed the last 2. He left his man and over helped on the first and didn’t switch on the second attempt. Both silly mistakes this far into the season as a senior. Elmarko I thought was decent defensively tonight, he was credited with 4 steals tho a few of them the ball got knocked to him luckily. But gosh his offense numbers are like he wasn’t on the floor. In 21 minutes he had zero shot attempts and finished with 1 assist and 1 point. That’s unacceptable imo. I honestly am wondering if Jank shouldn’t see some minutes here with how unproductive our guards are off the bench. Hard to believe he could be any worse on the average night.

Feb 11, 2024 04:18 AM #334

@Texas-Hawk-10 I don’t remember that team having much of a bench at all with KJ Lawson, a D3 caliber player getting minutes. Vick was the best player on that team and Doke when he was healthy. That could’ve been a solid group had Vick not gone nuts and Doke gotten hurt. Those two things killed the depth.

Feb 11, 2024 08:31 AM #335

Short handed victory! Over a good team no less. Hard to complain about that. Go Hawks!

Coincidence that we’ve beaten two top teams without McCullar?

Seems like teams are game planning for Furphy now. He’ll need to adjust and figure out how to get open, or drive the lane more.

Feb 11, 2024 12:23 PM #336

Wish we had another option besides Nick. 3 mistakes in the last 14 seconds and lucky they didn't cost them. Shouldn't be in this situation with him. You wouldn't know he's been in College this long with the kind of mental errors that he continues to make

Feb 11, 2024 12:55 PM #337

@BeddieKU23 youve put it as nicely as possible.

Feb 11, 2024 12:58 PM #338

Vick could just take off and fly like no other, but I think partially that was because he was high most of the time.

Feb 11, 2024 01:09 PM #339

I really did try. Rewrote several times. You have Kev out, Juan get injured and then you have a 6th year guy that should just get it, but he doesn't

Feb 11, 2024 04:07 PM #344

Any news on Juan? I feel like Kevin will be out tomorrow no matter what. I hate to say it but the ball movement is better without Kevin, think he was dribbling too much and trying for hero ball far too often.

Feb 11, 2024 05:15 PM #345

That season was weird because KU had so many different starting line ups due to various issues. Marcus Garrett did come off the bench for most of the season. David McCormack came off the bench most of the season. Mitch Lightfoot and Charlie Moore were also main bench players.

I'm not going to claim that bench was among Self's best, but it was better and deeper than this season's bench.

Feb 11, 2024 08:22 PM #347

@Texas-Hawk-10 Ya that team looked strong early on when everyone was healthy mentally and physically. Won the NIT vs Tennessee and Vick was a projected lottery pick. The injuries and Grimes, Vick flat out quitting on the team half way thru the season. I remember Charlie having some good games.

@Gorilla72 During the game, he hobbled to the out of bounds area after trying to shoot a reverse layup and when he sat down, he hit it with the side of the hand. It was not a full out punch.

Feb 22, 2024 08:58 PM #362

Kev hasn't done anything this week. Might not play Saturday. Gonna be an issue regardless for the rest of the season. With that, we can put a cork in the ceiling of this team if he's not going to be healthy enough week to week

Feb 23, 2024 02:24 AM #363

@BeddieKU23 Id rest him Saturday, I honestly think we can beat Texas without him. Heck I’d rest him til the NCAA at this point if it helps him. We are pretty much out of the big 12 at this point anyway. I’m honestly shocked it still seems to be bothering him if it actually is a bruised knee. I’ve done that twice before it is painful and uncomfortable but usually isn’t a long term injury. Obviously there is certain severities of it but this one is one of the most lingering ones I’ve seen or heard of. Worried me it could be something more severe that they are hiding.

Feb 23, 2024 02:48 AM #364

Definitely don't underestimate a bone bruise. Someone ended up missing an entire NBA season over one, I think last year.

He looked like he was in a very bad way by the end of the OU game unfortunately.

Feb 23, 2024 02:01 PM #366

Kevin is able to function at a level higher than 99% of everyone, just not the level required of a collegiate basketball star. Pain limits function at some point no matter how tough you are.

I know a gal who’s femur punched thru her pelvis. She was mowing the yard a few weeks after surgery. Toughest human I know. She’s all of 5ft tall and right around 60.

Feb 23, 2024 02:35 PM #367

@BShark

And Self said his injury is one that won't heal 100% until rest and recovery allows him to work on rehabbing it back.

Unfortunately sitting out games and practices doesn't seem like it's going to fix it, it's only going to allow him to keep limping along.

There's a lot to say here but not worth it

Feb 23, 2024 05:59 PM #368

@BeddieKU23 yep that’s what I’m saying keep him off it and let’s win our home games, whatever happens on the road doesn’t matter

We shall see but winning any of these last 5 games if Kev isn't able to play is going to be very difficult, home or not. Don't see how we can put an optimistic hat on at this point which sucks because the week off was supposed to help everyone. Sucks

Doesn't sound like Kevin will play. No surprise..

The short hand Hawks as usual

Feb 24, 2024 05:51 PM #371

I, don't even feel good w/out Kevin. But, we did beat Baylor, which surprised me.

Hunter 20, KJ 15, Dajuan 15, Furph 15 and Elmjamparknick 5 am I dreaming and reliving the 70's? There was my gf. Tootsie Taylor in the 70's and she was no nightmare.

Yes, confirmed out basically. A friend of mine camping at the game said he didn't even have basketball clothes on headed towards early warm ups.

Feb 24, 2024 07:17 PM #376

The way Kevin has been playing hero ball, if the younger guys step up we could be better without injured Kevin. Now healthy Kevin from earlier this no question we are better with.

@BShark

Just about every year it's a critical piece out.

Feb 25, 2024 12:59 PM #379

Full quote here

“Well, my concern is will he play again this year? It's not a day-to-day deal, it's a week-to-week deal. He obviously won't go on Tuesday. I'm not going to put him out there because he's missed so much time. Even though you can look at games, the number of games missed but that's not the story. The story is that he played against OU and had what, two days of a little bit of practice and then played and wasn’t effective and it didn’t feel good at all. So he's got to practice for a good week before we put him out there so that he can go and not be reinjured worse because the big thing is I’d like to have for the postseason, where he's in rhythm, and our team has a chance to be the best it can be going into the second week of March. But, you know, I'm hoping we get him back but it's not anything that I'm I'm thinking it's gonna happen tomorrow or Monday. I don't think that at all.”

Feb 25, 2024 01:16 PM #380

Yikes I'd just sit him out for the rest of the regular season and bring him back for the conference tournament so it doesn't effect seeding

Feb 25, 2024 02:21 PM #381

@BShark

I come out of that statement more optimistic they are just going to play it week to week. Ideally he's healthy enough to play before the NCAA tournament but given how the league is, it may be best to sit him through that crapshoot as well

Feb 27, 2024 01:53 AM #382

Who would have thought that our team, extremely low in the depth department, could lose arguably our best player (Kevin), and then play better than when we had Kevin.

This is the case. And WHY did we play better? Because the rest of our team didn't have Kevin around to lean on. Everyone had to step up. And with these last few games we are seeing a team where most everyone is playing their best basketball. Super shout out to Nick! He's a gutsy performer! He's becoming a different version of The Furph! How I can make such a claim? Look at the stats in the Texas game. 19 of our 27 FTs were shot by either Furph or Nick!

If you can believe this... I'm happy Kevin will sit for the BYU game. Let him recover and give us another developmental game without him!

If we can stay healthy now... (and get healthy)... I'm becoming a lot more optimistic about March!

Feb 27, 2024 01:42 PM #383

@drgnslayr

I'd like to buy the last game and bottle it. Will we see the same energy tonight?

They had a week off and were home. Texas was at 2 very distinct disadvantages despite
being without Kev. We have yet to see the version of KU we see at home anywhere else. That's probably my biggest concern. It's sort of a mirage.

Baylor and Houston are huge road games where they have the opportunity to rise to the occasion. If they can win 1 or both without Kev that's something to get excited about for March imo

Feb 27, 2024 03:57 PM #384

Agreed, tonight's game will hopefully be the start of some consistency from Timbies. I would also like to see either McDowell or Elmarko really step up and try and take his starting spot over the next couple of games.

Since the B12 race is out of our hands, I think most people would like to see him sit and get as healthy as possible. Even if we drop 3/4 over the next couple of games, I see us as at worst a 3 seed and I would rather go into the NCAA tournament as that with Kev healthy than as a 1 seed with him still banged up.

Feb 27, 2024 04:01 PM #385

I'd like to bottle up our Houston game! Fran could cry w/the job we did on Shead! 😜

Feb 27, 2024 05:01 PM #386

Posting something about this in behind the wall

Feb 27, 2024 05:13 PM #387

@dylans I hope 60 is her age and not her weight...

Feb 27, 2024 05:58 PM #388

@BeddieKU23

Yes.... didn't mention how fresh we looked! I think with our remaining schedule we can have decent legs. If we can play a high level of ball and pull leads in games, our starters can get a little more rest.

I think our previous issue with bench depth is starting to go away.

First... other teams we play are getting tired now, too.

Second... we are getting better minutes from Nick... even Elmarko and Parker are looking better. Elmarko didn't score in the Texas game but he dished 4 assists (including the best assist in college ball this year). His +/- was highest on the team at +18!

Furph has definitely solidified as a contributor, too!

Feb 27, 2024 06:38 PM #389

@drgnslayr

Good stuff, appreciate your optimistic view. I see it and want to believe it but I'm not there, call it cautiousness. I need to see a road game look like we have at home at times. The bench pieces can step up at times but we've yet to see it even 2 games in a row or in basically any road game so far.

Timberlake's production seems tied to bigger minutes and he's proven he's not a reliable scorer off the bench in spot minutes. He's in a perfect spot though to salvage his season and keep confidence in himself.

Elmarko is a non scorer but his impact getting others buckets and his energy flashed big time against Texas. We never see it 2 games in a row though. It's unfortunate that he was further away from being a big contributor then I thought he would be.

I think some of the benches issues fall on coaching preferences. We have a coach that's second to none in competitiveness and ego to win games. It's why he's the best and in the HOF. The big 4 have been overworked because Self has such a high bar for the level of play he wants to see which then caused them to get worn down and led to nagging injuries etc. Now he's forced to let the bench play through stuff they could have played through earlier this season with more balance in minutes. Just some 2 cents. Perhaps this was the road that had to be traveled to get where we want to go this season.

This team hasn't hit their peak and it would be nice if they are close to reaching it.

Feb 27, 2024 09:40 PM #390

Our remaining schedule is a killer and if form holds true to what we've done on the road we're going to lose 3 more reg season games. The schedule makers really gave us a tough one this year. Simien was talking about it on the podcast. From later Saturday home games to a Big Monday date in traditionally tough places to play two weekends in a row. Home and Home with the toughest teams in the league too. I'm sure some other big 12 teams have had similar misfortunes in scheduling. So I'll so the usual whine from me, they should have left us at 10 teams.

Feb 27, 2024 10:12 PM #391

@wissox

Gets worse next yr adding the 4 teams from the former Pac-12.

I did the research on KU getting more Big Monday road games then others and need to compile it.

Feb 28, 2024 03:23 AM #392

@BeddieKU23 Funny thing about tonight is I thought we'd lose 3 based on having a road game tonight. Obviously I was mistaken about the location.

Feb 29, 2024 11:29 PM #393

Per Self- Kev trending to possibly play Saturday against Baylor if he practices. Perhaps it's more likely he returns against K-St at home but we shall see.

Sounds like the message Self sent Kev on air was received. Perhaps the L at home shook the tree a bit too.

Agree and I'm pretty sure Coach and Kevin had an extended little talk on some things

Kev "tweaked his knee" in the K-St game per Self during Thursdays press conference. Didn't practice Thursday, hopeful for Friday. Here we go again.

Dang. I remember when it happened. I wondered if he’d hit the bench. But, he kept playing.

If he's hurt his knee I don't think it will be the same situation as what brewed before. We shall find out tommorow what is going on. Not a good situation still regardless
