Finally Some RESPECT: Jayhawks Favored At Baylor
Nov 28, 2024 04:41 PM #1

Saturday, 11AM can't get here soon enough. This game is such an important game to win, I just hope our team stays on a roll. Finally, I've stopped looking at the earlier games and wondering about the what ifs. Just beat the Bears and hope a bowl game is available to reward our late season rallying Jayhawks. RC

Nov 28, 2024 06:01 PM #2

This is the most important KU football game in a very long time. Can these 38 seniors make jayhawk history by making a 3rd straight bowl game? I almost feel like all is lost on all they have built if they can’t finish this season.

Nov 28, 2024 06:19 PM #3

@kjayhawks I hope they feel like that too

Nov 28, 2024 07:13 PM #4

Were playing really well, but Baylor playing well too-- they have won 5 straight- -Average defense though not nearly the type of defenses we have been up against lately

Nov 29, 2024 04:19 AM #5

It’s an interesting game for Grimes as well. The school that fired him last season stands in his way to bowl game. I’ve heard some interesting rumors at thanksgiving from of my in laws that are major boosters. They said Grimes had not been calling plays since week 4 and Jim Zebrowski has been not sure if that’s fact or fiction

Nov 30, 2024 03:50 AM #6

This has been the most interesting season. Probably no team has ever excited their fans like the Jayhawks have when all they're trying to accomplish is a .500 season. But I'm pumped. Should be an exciting game. Hope it works out well.

Nov 30, 2024 02:39 PM #7

Big Jayhawk day today! Let's get the win. We all know this team is capable of it. Bowl Game on the line. Also, several program historic firsts that have been mentioned.

And the last regular season game for some all-time favorite Jayhawks. I hope they go out with the W!

Nov 30, 2024 03:53 PM #8

ESPN now has Baylor favored by 1. I sure wish I had taken the time to attend the game in Waco. But, watching from home in all my best KU gear.

Nov 30, 2024 04:26 PM #9

Good thing they not playing here ? KC- --- snowed here in Topeka and ground white and 30 degrees

Nov 30, 2024 04:39 PM #10

ESPN now has KU favored by 2. Let's go

Nov 30, 2024 04:46 PM #11

Dang it had a few good plays leads to a missed FG not a good start after all

Nov 30, 2024 04:47 PM #12

Back to back direct snaps didn’t fool Baylor

Nov 30, 2024 04:47 PM #13

Great start, then two keepers by Daniels into the line stalled the drive. Ufff

Nov 30, 2024 04:49 PM #14

@AsadZ yep grimes gonna grimes

Nov 30, 2024 04:57 PM #15

🌾🌾🌾🌾❤️💙🏈🙏🫶🥰👍🌻🦃🦃

Nov 30, 2024 04:58 PM #16

Please just give the ball to Devin on every play. Please

Nov 30, 2024 04:59 PM #17

@stoptheflop just not a obvious direct snap

Nov 30, 2024 04:59 PM #18

@Crimsonorblue22 the turkeys are a nice touch lol

Nov 30, 2024 04:59 PM #19

Nice drive

Hishaw is on personal leave of absence

Any idea what is going on with him

Nov 30, 2024 05:07 PM #20

Secondary got beat on that play

Nice throw by Baylor QB

I hope missed FG doesn’t cost KU this game

Nov 30, 2024 05:07 PM #21

This could turn in to a shoot out real quick

Nov 30, 2024 05:12 PM #22

Jesus Christ Grimes smh Neal zero touches

Nov 30, 2024 05:14 PM #23

Rough

Nov 30, 2024 05:15 PM #24

Those were some really dangerous blocks after interceptions

Nov 30, 2024 05:15 PM #25

Instant Replay.

Nov 30, 2024 05:15 PM #26

Better wake up right this second, Grant can’t stay with him bad match up

Nov 30, 2024 05:16 PM #27

Oh boy

Getting a bit ugly

KU needs to settle

Remember Devin Neal

Nov 30, 2024 05:17 PM #28

Some adversity. It appears stopping them will be difficult. Got to score now.

Nov 30, 2024 05:17 PM #29

Hope Jaylon stays composed. Shake that int off. Lots of time

Nov 30, 2024 05:24 PM #30

JD way off on the deep ball

Nov 30, 2024 05:24 PM #31

Run the ball Grimes

Nov 30, 2024 05:24 PM #32

See?

Nov 30, 2024 05:25 PM #33

What a catch!

Nov 30, 2024 05:27 PM #34

Horrible call.

Nov 30, 2024 05:30 PM #35

Wow, I guess you can push a receiver down in the end zone.

Nov 30, 2024 05:31 PM #36

They picked of the one flag but now they seemed to be against us

Nov 30, 2024 05:32 PM #37

Can the defense get off the plane?

Nov 30, 2024 05:34 PM #38

Our punter still bored, unfortunately the pick and the missed FG hurting us, not to mention the missed pass interference.

Nov 30, 2024 05:35 PM #39

Pass was uncatchable, that's why there was no flag there, Grimm not reacting should be all the evidence he knew it was uncatchable.

Secondary definitely needs to pick it up this drive. Baylor's getting whatever they want through the air.

Nov 30, 2024 05:37 PM #40

What the hell happened to our defense

Nov 30, 2024 05:37 PM #41

@Texas-Hawk-10 It looked in the neighborhood.

Nov 30, 2024 05:37 PM #42

@Texas-Hawk-10 still can call
Holding

Nov 30, 2024 05:38 PM #43

We are gonna fart around and blown out here

@kjayhawks said in Finally Some RESPECT: Jayhawks Favored At Baylor:

It wasn't a hold, Grimm was pushed down.

@wissox said in Finally Some RESPECT: Jayhawks Favored At Baylor:

None of KU's players or coaches were arguing for a flag on that play. I'm at the game and nobody from KU reacted like it was a missed call.

Nov 30, 2024 05:40 PM #46

Bad day to have bad Daniels.

The season is on the line! Cmon, boys.

Nov 30, 2024 05:40 PM #47

Irrelevant with this defense at this point. Gonna 6 every time we touch it and hopefully get a turnover or two

Nov 30, 2024 05:40 PM #48

@Texas-Hawk-10 OK, have fun. Just reporting what I saw on TV.

Nov 30, 2024 05:41 PM #49

So what’s the deal with Hishaw? I hadn’t heard he was taking time away.

Nov 30, 2024 05:43 PM #50

@wissox doesn’t matter but I’ve seen PI called thousands of times for less

Nov 30, 2024 05:46 PM #51

Throw a flag.

Nov 30, 2024 05:47 PM #52

@Texas-Hawk-10 that was PI all day or holding, had LJ by his collar the whole way down the field.

Nov 30, 2024 05:47 PM #53

What makes this sad is they are down 3 starters in defense

Nov 30, 2024 05:49 PM #54

@kjayhawks said in Finally Some RESPECT: Jayhawks Favored At Baylor:

Whatever you claim dude, the players and coaches not reacting at all to that play should tell you all you need to know whether or not they thought it was a missed call.

Nov 30, 2024 05:51 PM #55

OK, D got a stop. Lets tighten this score up before the half.

Nov 30, 2024 05:52 PM #56

@Texas-Hawk-10 the players did reacted number 87 was jumping up and down doing the the throwing the flag motion

Nov 30, 2024 05:53 PM #57

@wissox if we don’t score here, it’s pretty much over imo

Nov 30, 2024 05:54 PM #58

Announcer acting like Jaylon hasn't made some downfield throws today. He had the really bad INT, but has made some really nice passes.

@kjayhawks said in Finally Some RESPECT: Jayhawks Favored At Baylor:

1 player that was away from the play, not the guy involved, or Leipold who we all know never gets animated about bad ref calls ever.

Nov 30, 2024 05:55 PM #60

@kjayhawks Yeah, I saw the same thing.

He's been overthrowing a lot, even the deep catches have mostly been circus catches today.

Nov 30, 2024 05:56 PM #62

@wissox right I’m fine to disagree but nothing like a flat liar. LL idk because they didn’t show

Nov 30, 2024 05:58 PM #63

Oh crap.

Nov 30, 2024 05:58 PM #64

Wow that could be it friends

Nov 30, 2024 05:59 PM #65

This team still has some of the bad habits from when they were the laughingstock of college football.

@kjayhawks said in Finally Some RESPECT: Jayhawks Favored At Baylor:

@wissox right I’m fine to disagree but nothing like a flat liar. LL idk because they didn’t show

I'm in the stadium and saw way more of the reactions than what was on TV, nobody involved in that play even looked at the refs, but of course I'm a liar making shit up.

Nov 30, 2024 06:01 PM #67

@wissox a missed FG and 2 turnovers an issue we have more yards than they do

Nov 30, 2024 06:01 PM #68

🤮

Nov 30, 2024 06:01 PM #69

Also, if nobody is aware, KU is playing without Logan Brown today who got hurt during pregame warmups.

Nov 30, 2024 06:02 PM #70

@Texas-Hawk-10 you said no one reacted, that wasn’t true. They showed people reaching on TV. So by definition you are a liar. Sorry maybe you can’t see the whole field not sure.

Nov 30, 2024 06:06 PM #71

Well we had every opportunity to not only in this game but winning. 2 qtrs left for these seniors. The question becomes if we are gonna roll over and die or fight our asses off to get back in.

Nov 30, 2024 06:06 PM #72

@kjayhawks said in Finally Some RESPECT: Jayhawks Favored At Baylor:

@Texas-Hawk-10 you said no one reached, that wasn’t true. They showed people reaching on TV. So by definition you are a liar. Sorry maybe you can’t see the whole field not sure.

I could see the players involved, Grimm did not react at all. Lance Leipold did not react at all. Those are the two who should've been arguing, but didn't because the pass was a good 7-8' over Grimm's head and not catchable. And having a hand on someone isn't holding, grabbing the jersey is, and since Grimm didn't react at all to the refs not calling anything, he knew it was a legal play.

Nov 30, 2024 06:09 PM #73

KU has to get something going to the left side of the field. Just about every running plays is going right because of Brown being out, and Baylor has keyed in on that.

Nov 30, 2024 06:14 PM #74

@Texas-Hawk-10 Didn't Brown get hurt last week? Aggravated today pregame?

Nov 30, 2024 06:28 PM #75

Wow, we've outgained them. Turnovers kill

Nov 30, 2024 06:31 PM #76

Wow big defensive adjustments at the half smh

Nov 30, 2024 06:33 PM #77

That maybe the straw that broke the camels back

Nov 30, 2024 06:40 PM #78

Will sure miss Neal and Co. a sad day in jayhawk nation

Nov 30, 2024 06:41 PM #79

I’m fine with JD and Grimes not returning at this point. JD is back to his first half of the season self

Nov 30, 2024 06:42 PM #80

These receivers sure look dumb in those shorts.

Nov 30, 2024 06:44 PM #81

Wow, we can't cover anyone today.

@Texas-Hawk-10 great

Nov 30, 2024 07:10 PM #90

Well see youall at the furman game chat!

Nov 30, 2024 07:17 PM #91

@wissox ??? You're leaving this nail biter? Wow

Nov 30, 2024 07:26 PM #92

No chance the staff thinks Daniels is leaving, otherwise Marshall should've taken over this drive to get some live game reps and not burn his redshirt.

Nov 30, 2024 07:29 PM #93

Will Grimes be back

Nov 30, 2024 07:38 PM #94

@AsadZ Better question is will Borland be back ? -That was a sad display , so many missed tackles , Baylor over 600 yards of offense- -just overall sad display today after the way they had played

Nov 30, 2024 07:39 PM #95

🤮🤮🤮🤮

Nov 30, 2024 07:41 PM #96

Sad way to go out!😥

Nov 30, 2024 08:07 PM #97

I honestly feel for the seniors, just a complete disaster on both sides of the field

Nov 30, 2024 08:22 PM #98

This is one of the most important offseasons in Kansas football history. You could make a strong case to fire both coordinators. The transfer portal game has to be great with all the seniors we have lost.

Nov 30, 2024 08:34 PM #99

I agree , just costly mistakes on the offensive side of the ball I mean your opening drive go right down stall out around the twenty and miss your field goal - - drive inside their 30 interception hit home run pass deep in their territory -- fumble , driving again interception -was right at or around 500 yards of offense but defense couldn't stop a cold-- really bad defensive effort

Nov 30, 2024 08:38 PM #100

@SlimShaddy54 I’m already hearing Borland is going to retire. He had been the weakest the last 2 years before Grimes showed up. I’ll give Jeff some credit if he is still the guy actually calling plays. It was much better the last half of the season. I’m still arguing with myself if we need transfer QB or roll with JD? He just hasn’t looked like the kid he was 2 years ago in the slightest.

Nov 30, 2024 08:41 PM #101

@Texas-Hawk-10 sorry you had to witness that in person

Nov 30, 2024 09:32 PM #102

@Texas-Hawk-10 appreciate this optimistic take

Nov 30, 2024 09:47 PM #103

@kjayhawks I actually think JD-6 will move on , he losing his boys, the main three receivers his running back -- think he moves on and they just try and roll the dice with Marshall

Nov 30, 2024 09:48 PM #104

Any possibility to upgrade QB in portal

Nov 30, 2024 10:35 PM #105

@AsadZ Always a possibility I reckon

Nov 30, 2024 10:40 PM #106

Very stinky

Dec 01, 2024 01:07 AM #107

Well, we were riding such a high for the last month. Sad to see we couldn’t make a bowl game after the momentum we had. Baylor was also on a big roll though, so not an easy road game. But a bitch slapping was very unexpected.

Now it’s the waiting game to see who comes and goes — both players and staff.

I don’t follow the recruiting side of things, so not sure what’s on the horizon. But lots of you have said we’re losing most of our offense? Ugh.

We're losing most starters on both sides of the ball. We have 4 starters on offense that could return (Daniels and 3 OLinemen), and 4 starters on defense that could return (1 LB and 3 DLinemen), and our punter on special teams.

KU has 38 seniors total and only 16 commits for next season so far (15 HS and 1 transfer) so if Leipold is making staff changes, they need to happen relatively quickly so they can get to work to bring in some players.

Dec 01, 2024 02:25 AM #109

I know today was frustrating, but at least we didn't have to deal with the dumb shit that's gone on at several games today including the Michigan/OSU game, UNC/NCST game, the ND/USC game, and the UT/A&M game which had fights either during or after the game.

Dec 01, 2024 02:48 AM #110

Unfortunately as I said above this undoes most of this groups success. Its very scary to think about what next years club could be like. Recruiting trail doesn’t look great with only 16 signees. It will be interesting to see whom transfers out because we know some will. I hope our NIL is healthy because we are going to need to hit home runs at several key positions. I think this season sets us back to 2021 LLs first year. I sit here and wonder if the stadium will ever get finished. I think a best case scenario for next season is 3 wins and don’t see us competing for a bowl game in at least 2 years. Worst I’ve felt since Beaty was here to end a season.

Dec 01, 2024 02:54 AM #111

it is going to be interesting from what I'm reading, like Matt Ruhle of Nebraska said he says they are afraid of them losing between 30 to 50 players this off Season. I've read KU fans talking about how it's going to effect PWO'S and walk on's -- KU has a lot of PWO'S that continue to develop and see playing time a they advance

This has all got to do I think m I dunno what's going on something about roster limit / Revenue sharing and possibly NIL - -I'm not sure all I have heard people talking about how things about to change big

Dec 01, 2024 02:59 AM #112

@SlimShaddy54 I can’t blame anyone that wants to jump ship after this season. We looked very poorly coached for much of it. I think huge staff changes are in order if LL has the guts to do it. Also thinking about it I think you tell JD he has played his last game as a Jayhawk. He was pure garbage 8 of 12 games and turned it over 10 times in the first 5 games that cost us at least 3 wins. The more I think about let’s just cancel the program and get in the big east. This has been a giant waste of time and money. This program is finished.

Dec 01, 2024 03:06 AM #113

@kjayhawks Just fucking stop with the cancel the program bullshit, joking or not. It's played out, unoriginal, and just stupid fucking take. Leipold didn't win 6 D3 titles by accident, didn't make Buffalo relevant by accident?

Were you spouting this same shitty take after 2006 when KU didn't make a bowl and lost 4 games they should've won as well?

Dec 01, 2024 03:23 AM #114

@Texas-Hawk-10 in 2006 we actually went 6-6 and were bowl eligible. There just wasn’t near as many bowls as there is now. I wish this team only gave away 4 games, then we’d be 8-4 or 7-5z I hate to break this to you but this isn’t D3 football. We don’t have to argue but mark my words this will cripple this program for a half of decade. Hope the next staff can sustain success.

D3 titles mean Leipold and his staff had to identify and develop talent because the best athletes in the region weren't banging down the down to go to a D3 school. Those players went there because they weren't good enough players to play FBS, FCS, or D2 football and Leipold and staff had to develop that talent to maintain that level of success because those are the only 6 titles in that programs history.

And when transfer players are considering KU, they don't just look at the overall record, they will look and see that KU was very close to being a 10 win team and has lots of playing time available. KU isn't going to have the on field drop off you think they will next season.

Dec 01, 2024 03:51 AM #116

@Texas-Hawk-10 I’m a grumpy asshole today but I just don’t have any optimism left ole friend.

Dec 01, 2024 04:04 AM #117

I haven’t done a state of the roster in a while. I’ll try to get one done before the portal opens so we can get the lay of the land in terms of portal needs. Also, the 15ish HS class was by design. Filling 30 senior spots with 25 high schoolers in this age would be a DISASTER

Also worth noting Borland only has a team option next season, no guaranteed money.

Dec 01, 2024 02:48 PM #118

People talking about hoping JD doesn't come back baffle me.

Dec 01, 2024 06:52 PM #119

Like always, it depends what your options are. :)

Unless a portal stud appears, JD seems to be our best option. That being said, I don’t know a thing about that freshman we had in the wings this year,

Dec 01, 2024 07:33 PM #121

Unless I am mistaken, I think JD was healthy this entire season

Dec 01, 2024 08:11 PM #122

Of course, I can wait til next September because I'd rather not skip all of spring and summer after we grind through this winter.

Below the neck

Dec 01, 2024 10:34 PM #126

My question is whether JD can play better or what we saw this year is his ceiling.

How much of his play was impacted by injury versus new OC versus his ceiling.

Can JD make more accurate throws especially in the middle of the field?

Next year Neal will not be there so QB throwing the ball will be more critical.

By no means my suggestion is for JD to transfer, just throwing out some points for discussion.

Dec 02, 2024 12:28 AM #127

@AsadZ IDK, it's fair to ask, but I'm really in the camp that the first half of the season was partly the new OC's fault, and JD being rusty, and maybe even still trying to gain his confidence back. In the 4 of 5 game hot streak he played well. Should Lance be able to work the portal well, he may pick up some important pieces to add experience for new targets for JD and new linemen to protect him.

Not sure what happened to Hishaw towards the end of the season, but he's a pretty good piece coming back.

Dec 02, 2024 12:45 AM #128

I'm curious about why this guy is sitting on the bench.

Isaiah Marshall

H.S. Athletic Background
2023: Had 3,114 yards and 39 touchdowns passing with 1,507 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns while leading his team to a state title.

Dec 02, 2024 12:51 AM #129

@nuleafjhawk he’s not ready yet. He’s talented but needs time. It’s pretty rare for a true freshman to come in and be effective.

Marshall was only a 3 star recruit so it's not like he was expected to come in and tear it up immediately. 3 stars generally need a year or two before they start becoming ready to play.

@Texas-Hawk-10 the "star" ratings aren't Always the most reliable judge of a player's ability. 55 tds and 5,000-ish yards in one season says something. He was recruited by a lot of too ranked teams.

HS football in Michigan isn't the same as Texas, Ohio, Louisiana, Florida, or California. Michigan and Ole Miss were the only highly ranked programs at the time that offered. He was not someone they were looking at with the intention of starting from day 1. He was depth for each program.

Marshall may end up being a really good QB, but he was never expected to be at that level from day 1, including here at KU.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Yeah. We probably would have wound up something like 5-7 with him at the helm. My bad.

A 100 percent true my friend look no further than our highest rated HS recruit in history that just hit the transfer portal DE DeShawn Warner. I believe he played in just 4 games for a 5-7 team with a sub par defensive front 7. Talib was 2 stars but made an impact instantly once he got to campus. Has multiple all pro and pro bowl selections. Same could be said for Chris Harris Jr. can add in our current duo of Mello and Cobee, both 3 stars that will be drafted. More 3 star rated recruits are in the NFL and NBA than 5 stars. Look at the dozens of BB recruits that were 4 or 5 stars that amounted to crap for us. You have to have a guy that can eye not only talent but potential.

Wait, I thought that was because Self is a crappy coach? Which narrative am I supposed to follow...is there a guide?

@mayjay hahaha I think Self may have mishandled a few of them for sure (JR Giddens) but most of them like Omar Wilkes and Micah Downs were way over rated out of highschool

@kjayhawks Giddens was a dumb ass while at KU who deserved to kicked off the team for that bar fight.

Marshall clearly wasn't ready this season. Remember how awful Daniels looked as a true freshman in his limited reps? It was obvious that Daniels wasn't ready at that point. There's a reason why Leipold didn't move Marshall up the depth chart until the last 4 games and why Leipold was looking at potential transfer QB's had Daniels left. It's clear by the staff's actions they don't believe Marshall is ready to take over as the starting QB at KU yet. Next season will likely be a battle between Marshall and incoming freshman McComb to see who takes over at QB in 2026 and the loser of that battle likely transferring out.

There's not a chance KU would've gone 5-7 with Marshall at QB this season.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Bill Self himself has admitted he mishandled JR from the get go
