RCJHGKU!!!

Jan 18, 2015 01:51 AM #3

@JayHawkFanToo I hope they are Jayhawks!!

Jan 18, 2015 01:54 AM #4

I'm gonna try to follow this and JNewell. We'll see how it goes!

Jan 18, 2015 01:58 AM #5

Dial it up Hawk Fans, it's tip time !!

Jan 18, 2015 02:01 AM #6

@globaljaybird come on Perry!!! Break out game!!

Jan 18, 2015 02:03 AM #7

Let's Geaux Jayhawks. Wondering if Fred's kid brought his hankie tonight?

Jan 18, 2015 02:12 AM #8

Good evening fellow jayhawkers.

Jan 18, 2015 02:12 AM #9

Finally get to watch a game from tip-off.

Jan 18, 2015 02:14 AM #10

Go Perry!! Selden have 2 fouls?

Jan 18, 2015 02:15 AM #11

Looking good so far...

Jan 18, 2015 02:33 AM #12

Ugh

Jan 18, 2015 02:34 AM #13

Has Cliff caught the ball underneath?

Jan 18, 2015 02:34 AM #14

I don't know, I'm not seeing anything to indicate this team has played together for 16 games. Looks to me like an unranked team will be in sole possession of first place in the psuedo-Big 12 after tonite.

Jan 18, 2015 02:34 AM #15

No

Jan 18, 2015 02:35 AM #16

We have got to get to a point that Mason isnt our leading rebounder. That will only work for so long

Jan 18, 2015 02:37 AM #17

Oubre's got some quick hands.

Jan 18, 2015 02:37 AM #18

HCBS just threw and F bomb.

Jan 18, 2015 02:37 AM #19

@brooksmd
Saw that too did ya? Lol

Jan 18, 2015 02:44 AM #20

We need to keep feeding our big dog!

Jan 18, 2015 02:46 AM #21

Lets see more Perry. He had the start he needed for his confidence.

Jan 18, 2015 02:47 AM #22

Grab that ball Oubre. Come on

Jan 18, 2015 02:48 AM #23

So far, i'm not tremendously impressed with the effort. Rebounding is really lacking.. Not getting back on D. Not enough to take a game on the road, I fear.

Jan 18, 2015 02:49 AM #24

Shit call

Jan 18, 2015 02:49 AM #25

Id get a technical on that

Jan 18, 2015 02:49 AM #26

HCBS is much more composed over that foul than I am.

Jan 18, 2015 02:49 AM #27

Didn't ISU get outrebounded badly by BU?

Jan 18, 2015 02:50 AM #28

Maybe a Technical would get us fired up.

Jan 18, 2015 02:51 AM #29

Id be happy going into the half only down less than 5 pts.

Jan 18, 2015 02:52 AM #30

ISU only 3 personals. No inside effort.

Jan 18, 2015 02:52 AM #31

@brooksmd Cliff is keeping us in there!!

Jan 18, 2015 02:53 AM #32

Has KU shot a FT yet?

Jan 18, 2015 02:53 AM #33

No. You have to get a foul call to shoot freethrows

Jan 18, 2015 02:54 AM #34

ISU fans assured me that the refs were already paid off by Self...

Jan 18, 2015 02:54 AM #35

FG 3 PT FT
KU 14-31 45% 5-10 50% 0-0 00.0%

Jan 18, 2015 02:54 AM #36

Well. I hope he didnt give them much

Jan 18, 2015 02:54 AM #37

We were way too sloppy with the ball in the first half. Also did not get back after a made basket early in the half which led to too many points.

Jan 18, 2015 02:55 AM #38

And Self says we need to take it inside more in the 2nd half..

Jan 18, 2015 02:56 AM #39

How are we down only 3 playing like that??

Jan 18, 2015 02:56 AM #40

Will Perry have an impact when he's back in the 2nd half?

Jan 18, 2015 02:56 AM #41

@Kip_McSmithers Luck

Jan 18, 2015 02:57 AM #42

Feels like ISU got 10+pts easy transition buckets.

Jan 18, 2015 02:57 AM #43

@Eric Is that all?

Jan 18, 2015 02:57 AM #44

And now of course ESPNs mandatory Kentucky time. I turned on Game Day at 9 this morning to see what the crowd was like... well they were doing a long piece on UK.

Jan 18, 2015 02:58 AM #45

yep.. I'm thinking about 10 points were because of fast breaks.

Jan 18, 2015 02:58 AM #46

@brooksmd is there a way to look it up?

Jan 18, 2015 02:59 AM #47

@Eric I'm sure it's available somewhere online but don't know where. I'm just looking at ESPN stats.

Jan 18, 2015 03:00 AM #48

Box score says 6 pts off TO's

Jan 18, 2015 03:00 AM #49

Not sure if the stats are right but we've out rebounded them so far. And we have one more O reb. Biggest difference is 0 FTAs to 8 FTAs. Fouls KU:8 other team:3

Jan 18, 2015 03:00 AM #50

@Kip_McSmithers yep free throws!

Jan 18, 2015 03:01 AM #51

@Kip_McSmithers At least we're perfect from the line.

Jan 18, 2015 03:01 AM #52

@brooksmd If I could I'd up vote that twenty more times.

Jan 18, 2015 03:02 AM #53

It doesn't feel like KU is winning the rebounding battle.

Jan 18, 2015 03:02 AM #54

@Kip_McSmithers ah shucks

Jan 18, 2015 03:06 AM #55

Self was recruiting in my area this past week and I totally missed him. He was at the Bass Pro ToC on Thursday. I was going to switch my night of call and go on the off chance he would be there watching Rabb, Monk, Giles, ect. but hadn't heard anything on the local radio (go figure, they hate mentioning KU so I shouldn't have used that as guide on going) about them expecting him. They sure did mention the other coaches that were supposed to be there though...

Jan 18, 2015 03:07 AM #56

I'd start Cliff and Perry. Think?

Jan 18, 2015 03:08 AM #57

@Kip_McSmithers Surprising.. would have sworn we were out-rebounded.

Jan 18, 2015 03:08 AM #58

Where do you live Kip?

Jan 18, 2015 03:09 AM #59

@Crimsonorblue22 Only if they draw fouls.

Jan 18, 2015 03:11 AM #60

@brooksmd away too much home cookin from the officiating clique. Guys gotta play with a lot more passion. So far they look like Schittz..

Jan 18, 2015 03:11 AM #61

Enemy territory... Springfield

Jan 18, 2015 03:12 AM #62

@globaljaybird That's about what I said earlier. Wasn't seeing much to indicate they've played 16 games together.

Jan 18, 2015 03:13 AM #63

What do you know.. a foul on ISU

Jan 18, 2015 03:14 AM #64

I don't remember a KU team hitting as many floaters as this one..

Jan 18, 2015 03:15 AM #65

Frank is money with the floaters this year.

Jan 18, 2015 03:15 AM #66

Why don't we DUNK dammit.

Jan 18, 2015 03:16 AM #67

Getting out of hand here

Jan 18, 2015 03:17 AM #68

@bskeet cause we got blocked so much

Jan 18, 2015 03:18 AM #69

My gf has left the room now that my yelling has started.

Jan 18, 2015 03:19 AM #70

Well there was the points in transition stat somebody wanted.

Jan 18, 2015 03:20 AM #71

Well the starters can't do anything, time for the walk-ons.

Jan 18, 2015 03:20 AM #72

Oh look. Its that team that played temple and kentucky

Jan 18, 2015 03:23 AM #73

Ugh.. dont really feel like drinking tonight.

Jan 18, 2015 03:23 AM #74

@Eric Everything I have is too good to waste on the one.

Jan 18, 2015 03:24 AM #75

Can we even keep this close so we aren't embarrassed like the other 2 losses?

Jan 18, 2015 03:25 AM #76

We win close, or lose big.

Jan 18, 2015 03:27 AM #77

Frank leaving could be the nail in this one.

Jan 18, 2015 03:28 AM #78

Live and Die by the 3. Tonight, it may be the latter.

Jan 18, 2015 03:28 AM #79

Yikes... any hope I had has diminished greatly.

Jan 18, 2015 03:30 AM #80

Selden nice flop.

Jan 18, 2015 03:33 AM #81

Learned that one from Smart

Jan 18, 2015 03:33 AM #82

Ellis has 2 threes. If we could just get some points in paint, we'd be right in the game. But it feels like 80% of our shots have been low percentage.

Jan 18, 2015 03:34 AM #83

Almost halfway through the 2nd half and we've hardly seen Cliff.....I'd like to see him get some of the minutes that Lucas is getting.

Jan 18, 2015 03:41 AM #84

I am sick of seeing us get beat down the floor!

Jan 18, 2015 03:41 AM #85

Are we supposed to walk or run back on defense?

Jan 18, 2015 03:42 AM #86

Refs blew a call, but we are responsible for how we get back on D..

Jan 18, 2015 03:42 AM #87

All Game....

Jan 18, 2015 03:43 AM #88

A lot of the blocks come with a ton of contact.

Jan 18, 2015 03:44 AM #89

We went from shooting 47? fts last game to 2 so far. LOL

Jan 18, 2015 03:45 AM #90

Games are just called so differently. Every crew does their thing.

Jan 18, 2015 03:46 AM #91

after getting it down to 3, it balloons back to 11. :-1: Wait, make that 14

Jan 18, 2015 03:48 AM #92

No more time outs. 6:25 left. 14 points down. Still very possible for this to look like the Temple score.

Jan 18, 2015 03:48 AM #93

Shouldn't it have been in the scouting report about ISU's transition game?
This is pathetic

Jan 18, 2015 03:49 AM #94

WOW... We're shooting free throws!!!

Jan 18, 2015 03:52 AM #95

So a call on Frank's drive but no call on Ellis getting hammered first?

Jan 18, 2015 03:52 AM #96

Bilas, really? That's exactly why they have that rule.. It was in disgust.

Jan 18, 2015 03:57 AM #97

Ridiculous. They are all going for the ball. Crappy home-cooked officiating. Should have been no-call if they were consistent with how they called things earlier.

Jan 18, 2015 04:13 AM #98

At least they made the score look like it was a close game.

Jan 18, 2015 04:14 AM #99

Ya. But too bad that wont erase the 1 in the L column

Jan 18, 2015 04:14 AM #100

Congrats to the purple kitties for being unranked and top of the pile in the psuedo-Big 12.

Jan 18, 2015 04:16 AM #101

Shannon cuter than Holly.

Jan 18, 2015 04:17 AM #102

Weelllll, had this game chalked up as a L before the season started but still sucks to lose... in Ames..

Jan 18, 2015 04:19 AM #103

Tough one Brooks. Guys were really ripping on Self on Jnews blog.

Jan 18, 2015 04:20 AM #104

If only Wiggins was a Jayhawk and not a Timberwolf tonight...

Andrew WigginsG 39:15 11-17 4-5 4-4 +12 1 8 9 4 2 1 3 0 1 30pts

Jan 18, 2015 04:21 AM #105

That may be the worst defense ive seen in the Self era

Jan 18, 2015 04:24 AM #106

@approxinfinity I've been following that game tonight. He was really on fire.

Jan 18, 2015 04:25 AM #107

Why isn't Cliff playing over Lucas? Defense?

Jan 18, 2015 04:29 AM #108

Knew we were likely to lose 3 big 12 games on the road this year.

I think we beat ourselves with stupid mistakes-haven't reviewed the stats but my gut tells me pathetic transition defense and then zero perimeter defense. Also zero FT's in a HALF.???
Self pointed it out to the ref late in the first half-me thinks ISU got some extra help to add to stupid young player mistakes-and Selden charge in the end---you can't pull up??? You are the new bad Tyshawn.

Jan 18, 2015 04:30 AM #109

They had to get 30 points on basically uncontested layups.

Jan 18, 2015 04:32 AM #110

@cragarhawk no hustle, not finding ball, out toughed, no fouls called.

Jan 18, 2015 04:32 AM #111

@Crimsonorblue22
I think Self must have gotten mad at him after a couple of bad defensive lapses

Jan 18, 2015 04:33 AM #112

@cragarhawk just can't think Lucas is better.

Jan 18, 2015 04:34 AM #113

BG is big time in dog house!

Jan 18, 2015 04:35 AM #114

@Crimsonorblue22
No. Hes not. But thats Self for ya. Make an example out of Cliff. Im not saying its wrong. But honestly it has to be that. Cliff was 3 of 3 from the floor. So it wasnt offense

Jan 18, 2015 04:35 AM #115

@Crimsonorblue22
BG should be. He played like it was his first day

Jan 18, 2015 04:41 AM #116

Lucas had 26 minutes tonight. 0 pts. 2 ast. 4 pf. I don't think Svi could have done much worse. And at least it would be experience for someone who might be helpful in the future.

Jan 18, 2015 04:46 AM #117

Actually im starting to believe the rumors/hear say about Svi being homesick and maybe leaving after this year. I hope im wrong. But he just looks like something is wrong. Looks out of sinc and like he isnt having any fun even when hes on the floor

Jan 18, 2015 04:56 AM #118

Post game Self said he didn't like cliffs motor.

Jan 18, 2015 05:01 AM #119

@Crimsonorblue22 Why do women eat ice cream when they're po'd, mad, upset ......? I just had a big bowl and didn't make me feel better. In fact had a big ol brain freeze. :icecream:

Jan 18, 2015 05:04 AM #120

@brooksmd ha ha!!! I've been battling a migraine, good now! No ice cream for me. So upset w/our effort tonight. Think we got some pouters on the bench, maybe posters can't see.

Jan 18, 2015 05:05 AM #121

@brooksmd you better stick to drinking!

Jan 18, 2015 05:06 AM #122

@Crimsonorblue22 Well that may be true. But I don't have anything equal to the effort on the court tonite. Not gonna waste the good stuff on this one.

Jan 18, 2015 05:15 AM #123

@brooksmd so how does Self get these guys to put out more effort? Even oubre wasn't hustling either.

Jan 18, 2015 05:17 AM #124

I'd embarrass them. There were several times I would've pull the whole starting 5 and used walk-ons. At least you'd have guys on the floor with desire.

Jan 18, 2015 05:24 AM #125

@brooksmd I heard BG threw a big fit when he was pulled last game. He didn't get off the bench at time outs and was talking crap, coach Howard had to "talk" to him. Couldn't see this on tv. I was surprised that coach gave him a shot tonight. That kid could really help the team, needs an attitude adjustment.

Jan 18, 2015 05:26 AM #126

@Crimsonorblue22 Don't know where his head is. I figured his time was short when he wasn't watching when Frank passed to him bringing across center court.

Jan 18, 2015 05:33 AM #127

@brooksmd I'm sure you are right. Watch the bench next game. Self said Perry got in foul trouble trying to cover for 2 guys that didn't guard their guys.

Jan 18, 2015 05:38 AM #128

@Crimsonorblue22 I'm gonna re-watch this one and keep an eye on the bench. Perry got beat-up several times with no fouls called.

Jan 18, 2015 05:40 AM #129

@brooksmd they sure shot a lot more throws than us! Those charges!!

Jan 18, 2015 05:44 AM #130

@Crimsonorblue22 Just hope they get it together for Mon night.

Jan 18, 2015 05:47 AM #131

@brooksmd OU looked really good today against osu. Texas looked good too. We have to play up to our talent.

Jan 18, 2015 05:48 AM #132

@Crimsonorblue22 Which talent is that?

Jan 18, 2015 05:48 AM #133

@Crimsonorblue22 Didn't get to see any other games as I was working at the shooting range today.

Jan 18, 2015 05:50 AM #134

@brooksmd at least Perry got his mojo back.

Jan 18, 2015 05:51 AM #135

@Crimsonorblue22 Unfortunately we've seen mojo come and go this year. And I don't mean just Perry, but seems like everyone but Mason. That's what we need is 4 more Mason energy players.

Jan 18, 2015 05:53 AM #136

@brooksmd we have to have more from Cliff!!

Jan 18, 2015 06:16 AM #137

The comment about Perry getting fouls covering for guys that didn't guard looked obvious to me. The last two fouls that Perry committed-- especially the 5th foul-- he appeared to be purposeful as to say "see-- your man drove to the basket and now I have to foul."

The film for this game will be particularly instructive, provided the coaches can keep from exploding as they watch it.

Jan 18, 2015 06:22 AM #138

@bskeet coach was talking first half, but yeah that could be true too.

Jan 18, 2015 06:36 AM #139

Here's something to ponder from the box score: Only three Jayhawks shot free-throws: Mason, Graham and Ellis.

Selden (5 for 11), Oubre (5-15), Traylor (0-5), Lucas (0-0) Alexander (3-3) -- were never fouled on a shot attempt (according to the refs.).

Jan 18, 2015 02:31 PM #140

@bskeet The refs were really bad. That being said, congrats to Hoiberg and his kids for playing a good game, and the fans for not being awful. When Frank got cramps, the boos seemed almost of singular origin, and the majority went to a "lets go cyclones" chant. It's really impressive what Hoiberg has assembled with his transfers / recruits. That McKay kid is a beast; so is Dejean-Jones. Fred seems to be getting maximum output out of all his guys and we should have a real rivalry for the forseeable future (not a rivalry in name only like the last decade we had Mizzou).

Jan 18, 2015 03:04 PM #141

@approxinfinity Until NBA $$$ get him to the L.

Jan 18, 2015 05:24 PM #142

@approxinfinity I agree.. Not blaming this on the refs. I felt like we were lucky that it was as close as it was.

ISU deserved to win, given the way we played. I think we gave away more than 10 points. I like to think that bodes well for the rematch in Lawrence.

Jan 18, 2015 08:03 PM #143

@bskeet Oh yah, we will get payback in Lawrence. It will happen.

Jan 18, 2015 08:50 PM #144

@Kip_McSmithers

He was an assistant coach in the NBA and moved to a front office job because of his health situation. I am afraid that the long NBA season and the huge egos in the League are more than he needs health-wise. He has sweet deal at ISU and I don't see him leaving any time soon.
