Kenny Wooten
Nov 22, 2016 04:00 PM #1

Is down to KU, AZ, USC, Oregon and Cal.

One of these things is not like the others.

Should have posted here.

Wooten will enroll at semesters end. Bodes well for KU with an open spot

It would be fairly surprising if it isn't KU.

@BShark Does Preston committing perhaps affect his decision...concerns with playing time depending on what happens with Bragg?

KU is the runaway favourite right now based on everything I've seen/read. Self actually went to see Wooten iirc.

Nov 23, 2016 02:49 AM #7

@Hawk8086

No and we still have no idea whether Preston will actually be on campus next year.

Wooten can red-shirt the 2nd semester and get the jump on his development, especially with Hudy.

He's the kind of athlete that KU needs in case things don't go as planned with Preston, Bragg goes Pro & Lightfoot & Coleby are still not the options at the 4. Honestly KU should be looking to get 2 more bigs because I don't think Maxwell is the answer at the 5 either

Nov 23, 2016 02:51 AM #8

Maxwell is a practice player. Coleby may unfortunately be as well, it wasn't the plan when he was brought in though.

Nov 23, 2016 02:55 AM #9

@BShark

Nope it wasn't. We'll see if he ever gets himself back to his Ole Miss days. If Maxwell & Coleby are basically "last options" we should be signing as many bigs as we can get to come here

Nov 23, 2016 02:57 AM #10

If Preston makes it to campus I think it's just Wooten and then all other commits will be guards/wings.

Nov 23, 2016 02:29 PM #11

Well with the way Bragg has started this season, I would say that he will be back for his JR season, or let me say he should for sure come back, would be a huge mistake to declare . Hopefully Wooten will come I think he would be fine. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

If Bragg does come back improved, Billy Preston makes it to campus and add in a RS FR Wooten to go with what we know will be back (SO Doke, RS SR Coleby) and that's a pretty damn salty front line.

Nov 23, 2016 05:48 PM #13

@BShark heartless to say, but if Bragg doesn't get tougher I don't care if he leaves. I hope he gets tougher!

Nov 23, 2016 06:17 PM #14

@Crimsonorblue22 I share your thoughts. Unless Bragg improves dramatically he is not going anywhere.

Nov 23, 2016 08:27 PM #15

@sfbahawk @Crimsonorblue22

If the NBA thinks he can contribute, he will go. Diallo played and showed a lot less than Bragg and went anyway.

Let's not be too harsh on Bragg. He started 5 games and is averaging 18.6 mpg, 8.8 ppg and 5.2 rpg, he also has 3 blocks. His number are not really that bad although they certainly not up top the expectations. I mentioned before that Bragg was untested and with quite a different body than the one he had last season and he is still getting used to it and we should temper our expectations. We need to give him some time before completely writing him off as I sense some posters have already done. Remember Perry? he kept missing and missing until one game the light went on and he became one of the more solid players we have had in a while; let's hope Bragg will have the same awakening.

Nov 23, 2016 08:59 PM #16

Let's see....

We have Udoka coming back.

We signed Billy.

More than likely Carlton will be back. I don't know anyone that thinks he is ready for the league. Someday, though... possibly next year.

Dwight will be back.

Mitch will be back.

And Evan will be back.

Am I missing something? Aren't we just losing Landen for sure? (I'm just talking about front line players)

BTW: Billy is the new prototypical front line player... he is what we should be looking for in the future. Ball handling big men who can pop the outside shot. I'd like to see Coach change it around and recruit big men as utility players and become talent-specific for guards.

Nov 23, 2016 09:34 PM #17

@drgnslayr Loaded frontcourt next season. Maybe next year is the year Mitch can redshirt like he needs to. For obvious reasons, he can't this year. But, hopefully next years loaded front court allows us to do that with him. You can always pull a redshirt off in an emergency.

I also hope Carlton comes back. If he leaves he has no shot at a lottery. And if Bill has proven anything, 3+ year bigs at KU become lottery picks.

There is some nervousness about Billy making it to campus, but he seems pretty committed imo. And yeah he is very skilled, could be another Marcus Morris for us.

Still way too early to tell on Bragg. The plan before the year was for him to go, but I mean, if he would possibly go undrafted you'd think his circle would strongly reconsider.

Can't really count Evan imo, but regardless, next year's front court will be good.

@BShark

I don't know... but I never got the opinion that Carlton was desperate to make money immediately. Always had the feeling like he would be realistic about when to move. I think when he was in HS he saw himself as a 4-year college player.

People that know way more than me said the plan was two years then hopefully go pro but also assess.

Nov 24, 2016 09:17 PM #21

@BShark

Correct me if I'm wrong here.

KU=adidas

UA=Nike

Oregon=Nike

USC=Nike

CAL=Nike

The above asymmetry in brand distribution makes me ask if he played for a Nike power summer game team, or an adidas one?

If Nike, then unless adidas has reason to believe Trump's election will make them privy to untraceable bailouts, which might be an indirect, if remote possiblility, if the apparent Trump-Adelson-Koch complex successfully take over the Federal Reserve and build a German-Russian-USA central bank and oil alliance, I've gotta think the odds and the cash are on the side of Nike in this one.

Nov 24, 2016 09:48 PM #22

KU - mid western time zone - Addidas

AZ,USC,OR, Cal - West Coast - NIKE

Nov 24, 2016 09:52 PM #23

@drgnslayr Carlton has the patience, intelligence, maturity to go when he is ready to go and not just bail early for a quick paycheck, then only last a year in the big leagues, get tossed to D League.

I thought he would break out this year. Clearly hasnt done it, not yet. He is definitely not on Shady's level when he was a Soph. Not close and I thought he would be.

Carlton should be back and I think Coleby will make a serviceable big off the bench too.

Nov 24, 2016 11:13 PM #24

@BShark seems to me if I remember right it was actually a pretty close decision for him LAST year - - as of this point he is not ready, hope he doesn't make a huge mistake. - - I think he will get it turned around, just a slow start, hopefully pull out of this - - As for Landen people saying his foot, his foot. I've got a feeling it's more then his foot, something just not right, I think he is doubting himself right now, plus these kids read media comments, puts ALL that much more pressure on them just a repeat of last year for him people coming down on him already. Idunno where to go with him - -we need him hell not even so much for his offense but he isn't cutting it on the defensive end either. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@jayballer54

Bragg was not eligible to be drafted after last season; he was not old enough.

Nov 25, 2016 01:24 AM #26

@JayHawkFanToo he'll be 21 Dec 14th. Could have gone.

Nov 25, 2016 01:46 AM #27

@approxinfinity

I stand corrected. I was thinking of Azubuike.😧

Nov 25, 2016 01:58 AM #28

@jayballer54 I agree my friend. Did you see his Twitter post?

Nov 25, 2016 03:21 AM #29

@jayballer54 Landon played a little more like we need him to in the 2nd half of the UAB game. But then regressed vs. UGA. 5 fouls in 10 mins. I think the way they are calling the fouls this year has him frustrated. He needs to adjust....I think he will.

His brother isn't really a D1 prospect.

@BShark Well have to say guy, this is the first time I have seen any footage of Wooten, and I know this is HI-LIGHT BUT still - - - got to say I think that caught my eye right off the bat is this kid has some serious hops. - - -Really like his ability to really get up - -specially on the defensive end - - had some serious serious blocks - -just nasty. like that.

The article says we are trying to make him a priority - - - would be a nice get put him in with Preston, the question I have what happens if Bragg comes back next year? -- then all of a sudden we have Bragg, Preston & Wooten all in the same position right? - - still would like to have him. - -- ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Nov 25, 2016 11:22 PM #34

@HawkChamp NO, I didn't see his twitter, just doesn't look good right now - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@jayballer54

We do have the room for it. Would certainly be a nice situation.
