KU Buckets Bracket Challenge!
Mar 13, 2017 01:34 AM #1

Ladies and brothers from other mothers, without further adieu, KU Buckets Bracket Challenge group is here!

KU Buckets Bracket Challenge ↗

No limit on # of brackets.

Only your dignity on the line.

Good luck! Last one to pick Duke to be eliminated is a rotten egg.

EDIT: DUE TO GROSS MISMANAGEMENT BY APPROXINFINITY... This year's brackets have been split across two groups, KUBuckets East ↗ and KUBuckets West ↗

Mar 13, 2017 01:59 AM #2

Kansas, UNC, Villanova, Arizona in the Final Four with Kansas over Nova for the title.

Mar 13, 2017 03:06 AM #6

who won this last year?

Mar 13, 2017 03:12 AM #7

@Jayrawks1 serious? Nova last second shot over unc who had a what looked like a final winning shot

Mar 13, 2017 03:13 AM #8

@Crimsonorblue22 I meant who won the bracket challenge

Mar 13, 2017 03:13 AM #9

@Jayrawks1 duh. Sorry

I loathe the bracket for it is a series of decisions where I use emotion over logic every time and has worked out for me less than 7% of the time.

Mar 14, 2017 02:43 PM #20

My bracket usually turns out ok, but I cease to care if KU loses. Like last season my bracket was sitting in 1st place then KU lost and I couldn't tell you where it finished. Don't care. Once KU's season is over, unless there is a parade to look forward to, it's on to the next year.

Mar 14, 2017 02:47 PM #21

@Blown I have never done a bracket or bet on games, but if I did I would try to be "anti-emotional". I would try to figure out who else was being emotional and bet against them.

That is why i don't bet on KU: too many fans voting for KU push the line in the wrong direction, so the tactical move would be to bet against.

It would be terrific to know what teams over the years have won or lost the most money to those who bet on them. I suppose it should be public knowledge what teams have done best or worst against the spread?

Mar 14, 2017 02:50 PM #22

I picked against KU here last year and seemed to never hear the end of it from some folks.

Mar 14, 2017 03:08 PM #23

Ah the bracket. The great equalizer. Where you can tell others that their opinion is crap and facts back it up later. Where great orators go to put it on the line and fail time and time again. Can't talk your way in circles across a bracket. It's win or lose baby!

If you don't fill out a KUBuckets bracket you lack the fortitude to back up your predictions. Makes you more of a politician than the everyday heroes I look up to. You don't have to win or even do well, just stick your neck out; that'll make you the winner.

So get out there and prove yourself right, me wrong, or whatever motivates ya!

Mar 14, 2017 03:47 PM #24

@dylans I am a politician. Guess I know where I stand with you!

Edit: Let's go with elected official. Sounds better.

Mar 14, 2017 04:25 PM #25

Logic does not end in choosing KU to win this tournament. No team like KU has won this tournament since I can recall. The 2011 UConn team the closest I can come up with.

More than any year since 2003, an injury changes quite a bit (Simien) for KU. But that was quite a run (thanks Jeff Graves).

We might have the same record with Udoka on board, but I bet we would have won differently, and we'd be a more complete team going into the tourney.

EDIT: I edited "does" to "does not" -- pretty important typo.

Mar 14, 2017 04:30 PM #26

Well, think I'm set. - - -ELEVEN different bracket challenges, & 32 entries and won't win squat lmao. - -Last count I saw for the ESPN bracket challenge was like 8 million and something like 200,000, ya I've got a shot lmao. rock chalk all day long baby

Mar 14, 2017 05:07 PM #27

@Blown If that's how you look at yourself. Yes career politicians are so far removed from reality to be serviceable as human beings. I was speaking more figuratively though.

I was asked to throw my name in the hat and ended up as a city councilman. I didn't ask for a vote not have I compromised, I don't look to advance a career in government. I'm not a politician, just a worker asked to perform a civic duty.

Mar 14, 2017 05:11 PM #28

@dylans then we are one in the same in that regard

I completed a bracket after succumbing to your adept persuasion tactics.

I refuse to pick against Kansas though.

Mar 14, 2017 05:23 PM #29

@Blown I usually fill out a few. In one I remove KU as an option and arbitrarily have them lose a game to see how I would pick withou KUs influence. I hate that bracket...

Mar 14, 2017 05:29 PM #30

I heard somebody talking about brackets the other day and they said they never fill one out. It adds unnecessary stress to the event and disallowed him from simply enjoying each game as they were in happening in that moment.

Mar 14, 2017 05:32 PM #31

@HighEliteMajor 2014 UConn Huskies? Villanova last year? Those three are pretty similar to our team. I still won't pick them to win it all, but this team isnt really physically different.

Mar 14, 2017 05:38 PM #32

@Blown Interesting, I don't too stress over my brackets unless like last year if UNC won I won $500 but I fill out several brackets, none of which are the same (I maybe sucking it up in one but doing good in the other). That's one other mistake people make when they enter in several, they pick mostly the same exact teams. I have brackets that could be busted tonight, others that play it pretty safe. I've won contests picking both ways, half of it is just picking the right upset.

Mar 14, 2017 05:51 PM #33

@dylans I don't think he was referring to ribbing from friends. I think he was referring to just being at peace while he watched the games for what they are and not worrying about whether or not he got his bracket picks correct. Kind of an Eckhart Tolle approach, maybe.

Mar 14, 2017 06:01 PM #34

I entered the group. My FF is Zona, Nova, Louisville, UK. Got Nova over UK for the ship.

Got us going out to Miami second game. ISU/UL EE game in our region.

Mar 14, 2017 08:29 PM #35

@BShark Thanks for sharing.

Mar 14, 2017 08:32 PM #36

@Blown

I am considering not doing any bracket this year, it takes away some of the fun but a lot of stress as well.

Mar 14, 2017 08:46 PM #37

Been watch ESPN most of the day - -NINE AND A HALF MILLON entries as of right now - - crazy. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Mar 14, 2017 08:49 PM #38

@jayballer54 half million are yours?

Mar 14, 2017 09:56 PM #39

@Crimsonorblue22 lmao, well quite a few anyways lol. - - So does that mean I win 1/2 million dollars lol. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Mar 14, 2017 10:56 PM #40

@nuleafjhawk

Any time. I would assume most have KU winning the NC.

Mar 15, 2017 09:35 PM #41

@JayHawkFanToo Interesting, I've had the same thoughts. I'm not doing one at all, first time in like forever. Not sure why, but just a strange feeling I don't need to waste the normal ten minutes I'd take to fill it out. This way I/we can tell people we haven't gotten any games wrong so far.

Mar 15, 2017 09:42 PM #42

@wissox

Sorry...I broke down and against my better judgement filled a couple of brackets on the KU Buckets group...I know, I am asking for stress...Dang March Madness. :smiley:

Mar 15, 2017 09:43 PM #43

@JayHawkFanToo OK, I'll join too because I still kind of want to do it. I've only done one bracket on the KU thing so I feel like it's kind of unfair (and it matters not a bit) because some fill out 8. I guarantee if I filled out 8, I'd occupy the last 8 spots in the contest!

Mar 16, 2017 12:13 AM #44

So I watched the purple kitties win last night. Both teams were ranked as 11-seeds.

How does that happen? How are these teams ranked higher than other teams but in the play-in games?

Another thing... How come all the play-in teams are not stuck playing #1 seeds if they win?

Mar 16, 2017 12:16 AM #45

@drgnslayr agree it feels contradictory to how the bracket should work. But I guess a lot of the autobids aren't as good as middle of the pack in the major conferences?

Mar 16, 2017 12:33 AM #46

@drgnslayr @approxinfinity

They changed the rule awhile back to require the last 4 at-large teams to go to the play-in round. Everyone thought that it was unfair when 8 autobid teams had to go through Dayton after having earned their presence in the tournament. The seeding still represents the perceived strength of the at-large teams over the auto bid teams.

I like the idea of dropping at-large teams to #16, but doesn't that punish the #1 seeds?

Mar 16, 2017 07:10 PM #47

I like filling out a bracket so I have somebody to root for in games I don't really care about. As long as KU is still playing, I really don't care how bad my bracket is doing. If it does well, that's cool. Makes me look smart. Or just lucky. If my bracket does poorly, at least I participated. Seems collegial in a group like this. And since KU is still playing, that's really all that matters.

If/when KU loses, I quit watching the tournament or paying attention to my bracket. I just sulk and pout. So I might as well pick KU to go all the way, every year. Rock Chalk!

Mar 16, 2017 07:15 PM #48

No bracket this year. First time since 1988. At least this year I am not already dejected about my chances of winning 3 hours into the tourney!

Mar 16, 2017 11:43 PM #49

All right @jayballer54 here's your #1 ESPN bracket for Ya! Hurry up and look before it gets messed up! Haha

!IMG_1935.PNG ↗

Mar 17, 2017 12:12 AM #50

@dylans lol, hell ya. - -I've got like 7 entries into the ESPN challenge - -I got 100% on one of them & 93 % on another and the others are pile do doo lol - -good job my friend. - - Thank goodness I didn't spend any money on any of these lol..- - One thing I'll say so far is - -I hope The guys, And coach is making sure, that they pay attention - -a lot of these lower seeds are playing tough -we better be ready, as you can see. - -Just look at Villanova , up 1 at half -- Norte Dame wins by two and then others - -Good luck my friend hope your luck continues lol. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Mar 17, 2017 01:53 AM #51

@jayballer54 Me too! I think you'd be happy with the outcome!!!

Mar 17, 2017 01:57 AM #52

@jayballer54 @dylans

Good luck! Hope you both win!

Mar 17, 2017 02:01 AM #53

@drgnslayr If I end up in the top 50K I'll be happy. I usually have one land there. Top 10K estatic, I've not done that yet.

Mar 17, 2017 02:16 AM #54

@approxinfinity Hey, I just realized you have 2 groups in the Tournament Challenge: KU Buckets and KUBuckets. One with a space and one without.

Couldn't figure out why my entry wasn't listed and had to add it again - to the second one. I'm doing equally poorly in both!

Mar 17, 2017 02:17 AM #55

@tundrahok Ah yeah sorry about that. I noticed last year's this morning (the one without a space). Well hope things pick up for you, unless you picked Miami over KU.

Mar 17, 2017 02:18 AM #56

@approxinfinity KU all the way, always!

Mar 17, 2017 02:46 AM #57

Whoops I'm in last years group. Less entries by far this season. Bummer.

@approxinfinity Is there a way to combine the groups?

Mar 17, 2017 02:59 AM #58

@dylans sheeeeit, no, the groups are locked. guess we got the Western Conference and Eastern Conference.

KUBuckets East ↗ and KUBuckets West ↗

Mar 17, 2017 03:03 AM #59

Well I'm in the west lol

Mar 17, 2017 04:38 AM #60

@HawkInMizery congrats on the perfect bracket after day 1!

Mar 17, 2017 04:42 AM #61

@approxinfinity Looks like the East is locked now, but the West says:

Locking Rules: Unlocked - Brackets may leave/join group at any time

So maybe people can still join the Western Conference?

Mar 17, 2017 04:51 AM #62

@approxinfinity he's had a good 2 weeks!

Mar 17, 2017 05:31 AM #63

@Crimsonorblue22 Yes i have!!! @approxinfinity thank you my friend. I still have two perfect brackets and a few less than perfect. I;ve never had a perfect bracket after a date. im sure im going to have my bracket burned in flames tomorrow

Mar 17, 2017 06:42 AM #64

Two of my brackets had not been assigned to a group. I just joined the West group and so far looking good. 😁

Mar 17, 2017 10:22 AM #65

@tundrahok Ok I'll unlock the East as well.

Mar 17, 2017 12:07 PM #66

@drgnslayr Thanks appreciated - but since mine got blown out of the water . The best bracket I got out of all my entries I have one that I am 15-1 - that's in my CBS bracket challenge but even being 15-1 there my ranking is like 93871 ranked - -how crazy is that one loss and your ranked 93,000 lol. - -Got several withl a couple of 14-2 , and some 13-3 but it's still fun. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Mar 17, 2017 12:25 PM #67

@Texas-Hawk-10 very similar to my own picks

Mar 17, 2017 06:13 PM #68

@jayballer54 Still perfect on CBS, but not ESPN. Hopefully our champion pulls the point total up!

Mar 17, 2017 06:47 PM #69

I have one perfect bracket left. That Michigan game made me sweat and this Arkansas game is too.

Mar 17, 2017 07:35 PM #70

Jesus said "the last shall be first and the first last" so I got that going for me.

Mar 17, 2017 07:52 PM #71

@dylans awesome, had to kind of laugh I am 15-1 in one bracket and my rank is like 9,378 - -JUMPIN - - -GEE - - HOSSA - -FATS lmao - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Mar 17, 2017 08:13 PM #72

@wissox My gym teacher said, "And the last shall be last" when I puffed across the finish line once. Just sayin'......

Mar 17, 2017 10:43 PM #73

Perfect no more. SMU burned me!IMG_6725.PNG ↗

Mar 17, 2017 11:35 PM #74

@well done! Yeah, SMU burned me too. So did Okie state, so did Xavier

Mar 18, 2017 12:20 AM #75

@HawkInMizery Dah. flippin SMU.

Mar 18, 2017 12:35 AM #76

@Lulufulu They are the only ones who have burned me so far sitting pretty at 23-1 still in the 100th percentile.

Mar 18, 2017 01:14 AM #77

@HawkInMizery well done! Next year, I'll pick my brackets with your advice:smirk:

Mar 18, 2017 01:49 AM #78

@Lulufulu haaha i got lucky. I've never had a streak of 21 straight and had SMU not pooped the bed i would have been perfect up until the ksucks loss a few moments ago

Mar 18, 2017 02:08 AM #79

@HawkInMizery Yep, Kstate bit the dust...dammit

Mar 18, 2017 02:35 AM #80

@Lulufulu jerks!

Mar 18, 2017 02:55 AM #81

@Lulufulu did they play hard though?

Mar 18, 2017 03:02 AM #82

@Crimsonorblue22 idk, didn't watch that game

Mar 18, 2017 03:04 AM #83

Well, barring an epic meltdown, it looks like we draw Sparty on Sunday. They are good but I think KU is better, faster, more athletic, more experienced. Lets go!

Mar 18, 2017 03:29 AM #84

How do the matchups work on Sunday vs MSU?

Does Jackson guard McQuaid?
Do we go two bigs?

Mar 18, 2017 03:31 AM #85

No. We play our game. Make them guard 4 perimeter players.

Mar 18, 2017 03:38 AM #86

Tonight was probably the best game Michigan St. has played all year. There were only 2 categories where they had a significant advantage tonight and that was FG% and rebounding. 57% from the field and +13 on rebounds are the only categories where Sparty had a significant advantage so I think KU should be able to handle them. There's a reason why Sparty lost 14 games this season and it's because they're a shell of their normal selves. If KU plays their normal game and MSU plays their normal game, KU will win. It would take a repeat of tonight's performance for Sparty for them to win.

Mar 18, 2017 03:59 PM #87

Damm, did anyone hear that unbelievable BOOM? - - Well if you did, not to worry, it was just my brackets just bottoming out, crash landing like one of my worst nightmares - -OOOPS oh well it is what it is,. just like playing Russian Roulette, in one of my brackets I was 12-4 in the first 16, and ranked like are you ready? - -138548, roflmao, but finished up the round 25-7 jumped up from 138548 to 94,150- -hey got them on the run lol - - BUT on my other where I was 15-1 after the 1st 16 I finished the round at 27 -5 - - even with just one miss I was ranked 13,431 - -but NOW I am ranked 89,486. -- NOW you al see why I do not bet lol. - -HEY the one that maters is still there OUR HAWKS. that's all that really matters. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Mar 18, 2017 05:43 PM #88

@jayballer54 Out of the almost 14 million brackets on espn only a few hundred are still perfect. Looking at those brackets the popular picks to win it all are Gonzaga, Kentucky, Arizona, and Kansas. Duke, UCLA and even WVU got a little love, but those four are the favorites by the people with current perfect brackets.

Mar 18, 2017 05:46 PM #89

The Dark Side has joined the party.

I was a little late moving my bracket into the group. Today was the first time since last Sunday that I even looked at it.

Needless to say- pleasantly surprised at 98.6% - sorry @JRyman for knocking you off the top line!

Picked the Big 12 perfectly so far. Missed 3 teams with Maryland being the toughest hit since I had them going two more I think. Then SMU who I had going 1 more. But could really kick myself for not picking WI who I normally pull for now that they don't play God-awful slowdown offense (sorry @wissox).

Will see from here. Rock Chalk.

Mar 18, 2017 09:24 PM #90

And that was probably short lived...had Nova in the NC game and losing there. I knew that first WI pick was going to hurt (the bracket - I'm actually happy). I just didn't realize how badly.

But, I'm guessing a lot of people fall off the pace too now.

Mar 18, 2017 10:32 PM #91

And one of my 2 brackets has now moved into 3rd place in the "west" bracket group. Thank you Wisconsin!

Mar 20, 2017 02:33 AM #92

Didn't realize 2 of my 3 brackets weren't in the KUB West group or any group for that matter. Just got them moved and hot damn, looks like I'm at the top.

Mar 20, 2017 02:44 AM #93

Omg that's a rediculous carry by Kennard dribbling through traffic. Come on

Mar 20, 2017 02:44 AM #94

Can't just pick the ball up and run with it when it suits you

Mar 20, 2017 02:45 AM #95

But I'll gladly give up that spot if SC and Cinn hang on.

Mar 20, 2017 02:46 AM #96

@brooksmd wish I picked like you then because things are falling just about how I like em!

Mar 20, 2017 02:46 AM #97

@approxinfinity Think you're in wrong thread.

Mar 20, 2017 02:47 AM #98

Doh ha. So I am! Thanks

Mar 20, 2017 01:52 PM #99

Only 18 brackets out of 18.8 million that have the sweet 16 correct. It takes a rare hybrid fan a S. Carolina/Michigan fan to get it correct.

Duke was in the final four of around 8 million of the 18.8 million brackets. Including 7 of mine.

Mar 20, 2017 02:40 PM #100

@dylans

Duke plays basketball? I thought they were just a bunch of ambulance chasers!

Mar 20, 2017 03:35 PM #101

Oh yeah... Duke.... and perhaps the reason they lost -

Duke lost to South Carolina because they were too easy to hate ↗

Works for me.

Mar 20, 2017 07:15 PM #102

The best bracket ever... ↗

Mar 20, 2017 11:23 PM #103

I just wanna say that my bracket is Trashed!!! Thanks Nova, thanks Duke. Its cool though, I'm ok with it. Our boys are still dancing and we get home court advantage for the next ( hopefully ) two games

Mar 21, 2017 12:15 AM #104

Two of mine are tied for #5 but the one at #14 has a much better potential. We shall see...

Any chance of merging the groups?

Mar 21, 2017 12:36 AM #105

@JayHawkFanToo no chance of merging the groups, unless everyone wants to move their bracket to the other group.

Mar 21, 2017 12:40 AM #106

@approxinfinity

I have only checked the West bracket and I am not sure how well the East is doing or how many members it has. Perhaps the group with less member can move to the one with more? I would certainly be willing to do it since it is really not that difficult or time consuming.

Mar 22, 2017 02:06 PM #107

Second Chance Bracket ↗

Here's an opportunity to start a new bracket at the sweet sixteen. Discard that busted bracket and enter one in the second chance challenge. The number of entries is unlimited, but it's more sporting to only enter one instead of 25!

Best of luck to all!

Mar 22, 2017 02:14 PM #108

Motivation to enter @approxinfinity 2nd place?!? Time to win this season. @RockChalkinTexas You've got the winner this year!!! @mayjay top 5 this season with only one bracket??? @DanR will this be the year you top the bracket?!? @Crimsonorblue22 Come on, join in the fun!!! @Kip_McSmithers One pick away from the top, can you do it this year???

I'm less than impressed with my picks this year. Whomever dethrones me can have half the prize money I won last year.

Mar 22, 2017 07:24 PM #109

@dylans

Here is the West...

Mar 23, 2017 01:42 AM #110

@JayHawkFanToo that's last years final second chance bracket. And an invitation to enter this years entries are due in by tomorrow.

Congrats on your current bracket. Wish mine didn't suck.

Mar 23, 2017 06:27 PM #111

Well my best bracket in the ESPN brackets is scoring at 85% - -I picked 12-16 correct for the sweet sixteen in that one, kind of make Dickie's and Bilas look sick - - lol - -got to love it. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Apr 03, 2017 01:33 AM #112

I had to scroll down a long way to find this. The last post was 10 days ago!

I looked at the leader's bracket in the entire ESPN bracket challenge. They missed 3 teams in the first round, 2 in the second, 3 in the 3rd, perfect since.

But here is what is interesting: he missed on SMU in the first round, and then missed on both KU and Mich St! Yes, this genius who is leading millions of contestants picked UCDavis to pull off the first 16 over 1 in cbb history! Then missed on UCD not advancing all the way to the E8, where he had them losing to Oregon, where his bracket got back on a correct path with the Ducks (boo) going on.

Wow! Must be a UCD alum, but can you imagine how disappointed he would be for making that crazy upset pick if he was in 2nd place now?

Has picked Gonzaga to win tomorrow, 96-90. Defensive affair.

Apr 03, 2017 02:04 AM #113

I think the winning bracket from 2008 was close to perfect with all the 1 seeds in F4. Crazy.

Apr 03, 2017 02:43 AM #114

Wife's bracket. Probably has watched 40 minutes of ball all year

@jayballer54 I think you did pretty well at the 88th % level.

Joe Lunardi was at 67%, and Seth Davis down at something like 29%.

Go to leaderboard, and scroll down. There are a lot of famous people listed if you want to see Tony K and Golic and others. @wissox--you can check out Frank Kaminski's, too!

Wow, I was last before the final and moved up to third from last. Not sure how that happened! See I'm pleased because I knew I wouldn't see my name at the top of the leaderboard so I picked hoping my name would be at the bottom, so I kind of accomplished my goal.
