4 fouls in crunch time
Dec 03, 2017 03:18 AM #1

Alright Jayhawks. Good game tonight. I have to say that I am impressed with two, no, three things after KU's win over Syracuse.
1. Bill Self's coaching ability
2. All our shooters lighting it up!!
3. KU being able to keep it close on the glass despite ZERO post depth.

This brings me to my issue and I'm certain I'm not the only one that feels this way.
I wonder if this game gave Coach Self the tingly feeling you get in your tummy when something spooks you right good. What would have happened if Mitch and Doke and Svi had fouled out of the game with a two possession deficiency in crunch time??
Well, we would have lost, that's what would have happened. I mean, not being able to put a guy on the court that is over 6'5" in that situation MIGHT be a bit of a problem.

What might a good answer to this potential problem be??
Letting that big football/basketball player walk on come up off the bench. I mean cuz lets be honest. De Sousa has to score higher on that test or he aint comin til next fall. Preston has to get cleared of all wrong doing and that's probly not coming soon. So our primary and secondary options for best case are seemingly no longer viable.
WE HAVE TO GET ANOTHER BIG. NOW.

End of rant.

Good win Jayhawks.

@Lulufulu I agree. With all the things that have worked against us (Dok's injury, Joel's injury, Diallo and Cliff with eligibility issues), you'd have to think eventually something will break our way. I'm confident that we at least get either Silvio or Billy. Our guards were pretty good today other than Malik. He'll figure out by March.

Dec 03, 2017 04:28 AM #3

Malik will be fine! Feed the beast today. Weird game. Watching unlv az. Sure wish we had juiston!!!!

@Crimsonorblue22 I watched him play and told everyone he would be a solid player. I would’ve took him over the transfer that abandoned ship all day.

Dec 03, 2017 04:42 AM #5

@kjayhawks he's better than what we have now.

Dec 03, 2017 04:47 AM #6

@Crimsonorblue22 He’s better than Mitch and Clay for sure. I know hindsight’s 20/20 with Billy not playing and that guy leaving but whomever scouted him failed.

Dec 03, 2017 04:49 AM #7

@kjayhawks he has 21 pts 8 boards now against az. Think he's dead though! Good game!

This wasn't the choice though. Once KU took the Lawsons, that pushed Juiston elsewhere because he wants to play a lot both years.

He would be a welcome addition to this team though, that is true.

No crying over spilled milk, though. I wish we still had Coleby. We just played the tallest team in America, and won. It is forcing Coach to run the 4 out, which makes us practically impossible to stop. We look like that dinky UCONN team that ran circles around the Kentucky 5 star NBA front line in the championship game a few years back. One thing this team does much better is defend. Last year, it was "what the heck, we'll just outscore them". This year we are locking down, and playing the best defense since 2012. It would be nice to get another big body or two, but I am enjoying watching this team overcome this obvious problem with lack of depth. A 6'3" guy against 7'2"... are you serious?

Dec 03, 2017 02:39 PM #10

EBay usually has good deals on bigs. We should check there.

Dec 03, 2017 03:53 PM #11

As long as we are wishing redshirt Sr. Embiid would be pretty nice about now.

Dec 03, 2017 04:14 PM #12

@wissox

LOL too much Chinese crap there...although we might get lucky and get Yao MING Part Deux. Amazon Prime has free two day shipping...

Dec 03, 2017 04:57 PM #13

@dylans Dude!! If we still had Embiid on this team, it would just be unfair. There is zero chance anyone would beat us this season! 40-0

Dec 03, 2017 05:07 PM #14

@Lulufulu Bagley would get stomped by Joel. Wouldn't even be fair.

Dec 03, 2017 06:37 PM #15

@Lulufulu that 40-0 hypothetical prognostication is not hyperbole in the least.

Dec 03, 2017 06:38 PM #16

I wonder if you put a team of 5 jayhawks who could still have eligibility vs any team with the same criteria, would we win against all?

Howling.

@approxinfinity Good question. We'd be right up there, but when you look at the yearly revolving door at our two nemesises, nemesi? we would have some trouble there methinks.

Dec 03, 2017 07:20 PM #19

@wissox

Nemeses.

Dec 03, 2017 07:26 PM #20

Are we assuming everyone is at the peak of their powers? I would think so.

I'd have Paul and Embiid for sure, I think the rest is really up for debate.

Dec 03, 2017 07:27 PM #21

I'd lean towards a Kirk and Rio back court. Then Danny as the 4.

Dec 03, 2017 07:57 PM #22

@BShark Paul is out of theoretical eligibility. @approxinfinity Kentucky with all the players they run thru would be the most talented over a 4-5 year period, I’d think. But if they stuck around for 4 years they wouldn’t have been able to sign them all.

Dec 03, 2017 08:21 PM #23

Paul and Mario played 3 years so they would have one year; however Kirk and Danny played all 4 years so no eligibility left. Rush, Jackson, Wiggins , Oubre, Robinson and the Morrises among others would have eligibility left.

Dec 03, 2017 09:08 PM #24

Yeah I was just thinking all time team again.

Dec 03, 2017 09:29 PM #25

@approxinfinity I'll go based on the premise of 4 year players, no redshift.

This would rule out Embiid and Wiggins. I think I would go Devontae Graham at the 1, Lagerald Vick at the 2, Kelly Oubre at the 3, Josh Jackson at the 4, and Udoka Azubuike at the 5.

I don't know how it would stack up against a Kentucky or Duke roster of players who could still have eligibility, but I know that KU team would be very salty on defense with only Oubre not being an elite level college defender and would likely have a lot of swagger with Graham and Jackson as leaders. Jackson would also be a huge match up nightmare for anyone to defend.

Dec 03, 2017 10:03 PM #26

@Texas-Hawk-10 :) yeah you answered like I was imagining it. So I guess I wasnt doing the math right on embiid and Wiggins. Last year then would have been Senior Frank, Wiggins, Oubre, Jackson, Embiid. That would be lethal.

Dec 03, 2017 11:00 PM #27

@approxinfinity With Embiid's back and foot injuries, a medical red shirt in 2014-15 would have been likely so I could see a redshirt senior Embiid happening in that scenario.

In that scenario, I think I would bump Vick from the line up and have Graham at the 1, Jackson at the 2, Oubre at the 3, Embiid at the 4, and Azubuike at the 5.

That might be the scariest front line imaginable.

Dec 04, 2017 02:09 AM #28

@Texas-Hawk-10 I like that team.

Dec 04, 2017 04:00 AM #29

@Lulufulu

And in the least.... another big gives us 5 more big boy fouls to hand out!

That, in itself, is worth bringing him into the fold.
