@Fightsongwriter

PHOF!

Jan 16, 2018 12:11 AM #3

Infinite patience has limits.

Jan 16, 2018 01:06 AM #4

State’s Big 12 college basketball coaches heading in opposite directions stay on course

Real headline from Sunday, LOL. (Good column though β†—)

Jan 16, 2018 01:20 AM #5

@Fightsongwriter Almost made a post myself when l saw that headline. Another issue l have with his reporting, even moreso than headlines, is his wording about our coach and our players from time to time. I have to look at what site l'm viewing to make sure it's not one of KU's foes by mistake. Does he have issues with Self or does he think that will create more readers? And the stogie pose?

Jan 16, 2018 01:39 AM #6

@Gunman He posts so many clickbait articles. It's honestly what kept him his job when the LJW was going under restructuring. His employer doesn't care what the content says, or even if it is good. Just as long as he gets clicks and they receive ad revenue.

Money, like it does to most things, has completely ruined journalism.

Jan 16, 2018 01:43 AM #7

Vick not starting...Coach's decision. What?!?

Jan 16, 2018 01:43 AM #8

Keegan is also the reason why the LJW currently has a bad relationship with the football program. Being critical about the lack of success is fair game, but Keegan has gone overboard in his crusade against Beaty and made KUSports an even more toxic evironment than national websites. That's impressive and disappointing at the same time.

Jan 16, 2018 01:46 AM #9

@CRH107 motivation?

Jan 16, 2018 01:46 AM #10

@CRH107 according to who?

Jan 16, 2018 01:47 AM #11

@Kcmatt7 pregame

Jan 16, 2018 01:55 AM #12

@CRH107 Maybe Self felt he has to demonstrate to Huggy what program discipline means.

Jan 16, 2018 02:03 AM #13

For once the previous game finishes on time and now the talking heads are yanking it up instead of switching to the KU game. For once I would like to see player introductions...

Jan 16, 2018 02:12 AM #14

Likes selfs outfit? Huggized

Jan 16, 2018 02:16 AM #15

@Crimsonorblue22

I don’t believe I have ever seen Coach Self without a tie, other than at the resort tournaments.

Jan 16, 2018 02:16 AM #16

@JayHawkFanToo me either! Huggy effect

Jan 16, 2018 02:17 AM #17

@Crimsonorblue22 Uh, no....

Jan 16, 2018 02:22 AM #18

Freaking webered

Jan 16, 2018 02:25 AM #19

Getting jobbed by the refs early an often...

Jan 16, 2018 02:26 AM #20

T that crap up

Jan 16, 2018 02:27 AM #21

If what Doke did warrants a technical foul then WVU should have been T'd up 4 or 5 times by now.

Jan 16, 2018 02:28 AM #22

What exactly did Doke do? Screen froze for a few seconds after the dunk and I missed whatever he was supposed to have done.

Jan 16, 2018 02:32 AM #23

Stare down

Jan 16, 2018 02:35 AM #24

@Crimsonorblue22

The Huggy should have a few for staring down the refs.

Jan 16, 2018 02:36 AM #25

D dribble

Jan 16, 2018 02:39 AM #26

Crap we need a big man

Jan 16, 2018 02:39 AM #27

We have one. He's sitting on the bench because of the worst technical foul call I've ever seen.

Jan 16, 2018 02:40 AM #28

Between all the blocks by WVU, all the turnovers by KU and refs I am surprised this is not a 20 point game.

Jan 16, 2018 02:42 AM #29

This is why we lose here every year. Just playing stupid. I'm having flashes of Jordan bell last year. I wish there would be some coaching about how to handle this stuff better.

Jan 16, 2018 02:42 AM #30

Getting F-ing mauled. Almost unwatchable. At this point, I just want everyone to get out of the game healthy.

Jan 16, 2018 02:44 AM #31

@HawkChamp Jordan Bell was drafted last year. I would kill for a Jordan bell right now.

Jan 16, 2018 02:45 AM #32

@Kcmatt7 Agreed.

Jan 16, 2018 02:45 AM #33

Scot pollard

Doke dunks on someone. Yells=tech foul. Konate AWESOME block on Svi. Yells. Waves finger near two Kansas players. And all the way to the bench for timeout. Nothing. The second, no call, was better. Let the players do their thing. Celebrate the game. Talk a little trash. @KUHoops

Jan 16, 2018 02:46 AM #34

@Crimsonorblue22 No, only the WVU players are allowed to show any kind of emotion.

Jan 16, 2018 02:49 AM #35

Self Indicted into the Hall of Fame.

Jan 16, 2018 02:50 AM #36

@Kcmatt7 We're getting out F***ing butts kicked. Like we've never seen pressure before. We have seniors that have lost 3 straight times and it appears that no lessons have been learned...

Jan 16, 2018 02:54 AM #37

De Sousa...

Jan 16, 2018 02:55 AM #38

Laying the ball on the floor, brother

Jan 16, 2018 02:58 AM #39

Well, we out rebounded them... ;)

0

Jan 16, 2018 03:01 AM #40

Only 6 fouls on WVU...UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Jan 16, 2018 03:01 AM #41

@Crimsonorblue22 Refs have not only let WVU mug, but clearly trying to make the game about them.

But, what's new in Morgantown?

Jan 16, 2018 03:03 AM #42

Game is unwatchable; not the way college basketball should be played.

Jan 16, 2018 03:04 AM #43

If we defend and rebound like this when they come to allen, I like our chances. We always play stupid there and the officials get caught up in the environment. We can win it at home.

Jan 16, 2018 03:06 AM #44

The inconsistency is more annoying than the physicality. Udoka isn't allowed to look at someone but Konate is allowed to celebrate every time he makes a good play.

Jan 16, 2018 03:06 AM #45

@JayHawkFanToo And Doke on the bench for fouls. A stare and drag down.

Jan 16, 2018 03:06 AM #46

@JayHawkFanToo I'm ok with it, just as long all the games all season long are called this same way. The problem is inconsistency.

Jan 16, 2018 03:07 AM #47

@KirkIsMyHinrich agreed. I rarely get frustrated with officials, but that was awful. I hope someone follows up with this. Konate is allowed to celebrate all he wants

Jan 16, 2018 03:08 AM #48

Bill should take the fine after the game and talk about how much BS the Doke call was. Call the ref out by name.

Jan 16, 2018 03:09 AM #49

@Kcmatt7 I agree. This is blatantly biased.

Jan 16, 2018 03:09 AM #50

I just want consistent calls. I don't care if you call it it tight or let them beat up each other, just call it the same both ways.

Jan 16, 2018 03:10 AM #51

@Kcmatt7 Let know where to send my check! I'll chip in!!!!

Jan 16, 2018 03:11 AM #52

Man vs Food is good tonight.

Australian Open Tennis may be a good option as well

Jan 16, 2018 03:11 AM #53

No matter how painful I will watch the game until the end. It may be very painful tonight.

Jan 16, 2018 03:13 AM #54

@KirkIsMyHinrich You're good man. If you ain't in pain yet, you're not gonna be

Jan 16, 2018 03:17 AM #55

How is thT a foul on Doke? That was a text book over the back.

Jan 16, 2018 03:18 AM #56

Why are you all so surprised? We all knew this would happen. Let's not blame the refs either. They are up for this game after TT. They still have to come to the Phog and we still have to go down to Lubbock and OU. This season isn't over by any means. Let's see what happens with Billy after this game, right? If there isn't a ruling soon, something is definitely wrong with some ruling for or against Billy.

Jan 16, 2018 03:21 AM #57

Teahan in a boot.

Jan 16, 2018 03:23 AM #58

@Crimsonorblue22

Dang, there goes our 3 point threat. :smiley:

Jan 16, 2018 03:24 AM #59

We need Jeff Boschee.

Jan 16, 2018 03:29 AM #60

Svi dang pass!

Jan 16, 2018 03:32 AM #61

This could be a very different game right now if the officials hadn't made a conscious decision to take Doke out of the game.

Jan 16, 2018 03:32 AM #62

Graham has missed 2 treys. We don't need treys....need to work it inside and cut the lead.

Jan 16, 2018 03:33 AM #63

WVU shooting is horrible. If we can catch a spark, we can close and maybe get a lead.

Jan 16, 2018 03:33 AM #64

W/who inside?

Jan 16, 2018 03:33 AM #65

Wasn't trying to be a smart a$$

Jan 16, 2018 03:40 AM #66

KU's had some open looks that they need to make if they want to win a game like this.

Jan 16, 2018 03:41 AM #67

Lightfoot. Will he ever be clutch?

Jan 16, 2018 03:41 AM #68

Doke should never have gotten that T.....now he's on the bench. That said......Konate has intimidated us so much......our shots at the rim have been so tentative and weak.

Jan 16, 2018 03:44 AM #69

Graham wants to play. Anyone else?

Jan 16, 2018 03:45 AM #70

We are stealing the ball. This is really encouraging. We are actually playing defense.

Jan 16, 2018 03:45 AM #71

Don't look now but we are within 7

Jan 16, 2018 03:45 AM #72

@truehawk93 We just can't get over that hump!

Jan 16, 2018 03:46 AM #73

If SM would get off the court, we might have a chance.

Jan 16, 2018 03:46 AM #74

@nuleafjhawk Or if Doke could stay on it.

Jan 16, 2018 03:47 AM #75

How many TOs does SM have at this point?

Jan 16, 2018 03:47 AM #76

Or if get get decent refs...

Jan 16, 2018 03:48 AM #77

@JayHawkFanToo Futile comment

Jan 16, 2018 03:48 AM #78

@truehawk93

Hope springs eternal...

Jan 16, 2018 03:48 AM #79

Let's hope we get a few breaks and our shooters come alive anytime now.

Jan 16, 2018 03:49 AM #80

what's the arc % ?

Jan 16, 2018 03:50 AM #81

Svi decided to shoot

Jan 16, 2018 03:50 AM #82

Jan 16, 2018 03:52 AM #86

@JayHawkFanToo Refs coming around?

Jan 16, 2018 03:53 AM #87

We have a game?

Jan 16, 2018 03:53 AM #88

Win or lose I love the fight. Let's go Jayhawks!

Jan 16, 2018 03:53 AM #89

Hot dang! No quit

Jan 16, 2018 03:54 AM #90

WE just got over the hump!

Jan 16, 2018 03:54 AM #91

We look like a totally different team. I have no idea why. Must be coaching. We are ready for WVU. Our defense is more effective than theirs.

Jan 16, 2018 03:55 AM #92

Wow. Ok svi made up for it

Jan 16, 2018 03:55 AM #93

Big MO has slang to KU

Jan 16, 2018 03:57 AM #94

Go knock em down.

Jan 16, 2018 03:57 AM #95

It kills me that WVU makes obvious fouls.......and then looks incredulous...how dare the refs call fouls on them!

Jan 16, 2018 03:58 AM #96

@Hawk8086 took away a dunk from from doke

Jan 16, 2018 03:58 AM #97

@Hawk8086

They got away with those before...

Jan 16, 2018 03:58 AM #98

West Virginia isn't used to having fouls called against them, so they get really mad when it happens. Even if it's an obvious foul.

Jan 16, 2018 04:05 AM #99

Ya okay. Nice job officials you took Doke out of the game.

Jan 16, 2018 04:07 AM #100

Bilas said it looked like a rebound not a foul....

Jan 16, 2018 04:08 AM #101

Jan 16, 2018 04:11 AM #107

Heck yeah? I knew we could beat them!

Jan 16, 2018 04:12 AM #108

The reports of our demise were greatly exaggerated!

Jan 16, 2018 04:13 AM #109

Hello boys...guess who’s baaaaack...

Jan 16, 2018 04:14 AM #110

@JayHawkFanToo and u forgot me and @RockChalkinTexas

Jan 16, 2018 04:15 AM #111

@Crimsonorblue22

I was referring to KU being back in charge of the conference.

Jan 16, 2018 04:16 AM #112

Not sure about that. Tech and OU both only have 1 loss and Tech already beat us in Lawrence.

Jan 16, 2018 04:16 AM #113

@JayHawkFanToo still

Jan 16, 2018 04:18 AM #114

Took the bully’s best punch and bloodied him right back. Most satisfying win since coming back from 14 and beating them in Lawrence 3 years ago.

Jan 16, 2018 04:19 AM #115

@KirkIsMyHinrich But we have won at WVU......now they have to.

Jan 16, 2018 04:20 AM #116

@Hawk8086 Yes but Tech has a win in Lawrence. If they get us in Lubbock I think they are in the best shape.

Jan 16, 2018 04:21 AM #117

@KirkIsMyHinrich A lot to play out yet......we'll see.

Jan 16, 2018 04:22 AM #118

16 down!!!!!

Jan 16, 2018 04:22 AM #119

This game woke all the old Jayhawks.

Jan 16, 2018 04:24 AM #121

Welp? Proud as hell. What a hard fought game and I get to celebrate...Geesh.

Jan 16, 2018 04:25 AM #122

Folks we just EARNED that win in what many thought would be loss. Rock Freakin' Jayhawk

Jan 16, 2018 04:30 AM #123

@betterfireE Was Mitch clutch enough for you on that put-back dunk after Dok fouled out?

edit: just in fun!

Jan 16, 2018 04:37 AM #124

DG handled post game really well too!

Jan 16, 2018 04:38 AM #125

Jan 16, 2018 04:40 AM #126

@BShark Loves it

Jan 16, 2018 04:41 AM #127

@mayjay Mitch is coming along nicely and hopefully he maintains that play. I don't think he's near a ceiling. I'd like him to get more consistent from that trey.

Jan 16, 2018 04:45 AM #128

@truehawk93 The last 2 games before tonite he got yanked immediately after missing a 3.

Jan 16, 2018 04:50 AM #129

Sleep gonna be hard to come by tonight!

Jan 16, 2018 04:51 AM #130

KU outscored WVU 40-21 in the last 16 minutes of the second half.

Gunman said:

Here's the latest: Tom Keegan: Jayhawks far more effective with Azubuike on the floor

Breaking news.

Jan 16, 2018 04:15 PM #134

Bilas sure didn't give us any love last night. He was on the big Mountaineer train to "beat Kansas."

Imagine that stupid technical on Doke happening to a Duke player? Bilas would have demanded an investigation, and probably would have been involved right there on the floor, questioning the officials and then would have had the technical removed. That is what Duke and Coach K can do and also Bilas. I don't think most fans realize how much love Bilas gets in games. I've watched him question calls directly with refs during games.

He barely mentioned it in the game, and he had to say it was a bad call, under his breath.

Doke is now suffering from some bad calls like most big men face. Big men have to earn their reputations before refs start calling them fair. It's just the way it is... and it has been that way all of my life. Big men don't get calls until they get established at a higher status. This is one of the secret rules of basketball... probably written on the back of Naismith's Rules of Basketball!

Keegan: Upcoming Dozen Contests to Decide Conference

Jan 16, 2018 05:45 PM #136

Jan 16, 2018 06:10 PM #137

@mayjay

Gotta give it to him, the man has a knack for the obvious. :smirk:

Jan 16, 2018 06:11 PM #138

@mayjay

Yes! And he had a good game prior to that. I just want Mitch to develop and co tribute in March. Energy guys who can finish are essential.

Jan 16, 2018 07:01 PM #139

@betterfireE absolutely!

KU Has To Score More Points Than Opponents To Win Games

Jan 16, 2018 07:55 PM #141

@drgnslayr I thought Bilas said that T on Doke was a ridiculous call.

Jan 16, 2018 07:59 PM #142

@Texas-Hawk-10

He also said that the 4th (?) foul on Doke looked like a rebound and not a foul.

Jan 16, 2018 08:17 PM #143

@Texas-Hawk-10 I think he said the refs were "over-sensitive". Not sure if he used the R word.

Looking at his columns, I realized Keegan stole my idea that KU football should shift to the triple option.

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2017/dec/21/tom-keegan-blueprint-used-military-academies-suits/ β†—

Jan 17, 2018 03:15 AM #148

@Texas-Hawk-10

He did. He just didn't make a big deal about it.

I can't recall ever seeing a T like that in college basketball... ever. A player gets called for a T for just looking at someone from many feet away?

Heck.. Ts can be called on almost every play then.

Unless I missed something... like Doke making a comment. But it sure looked like he was just looking at Konate while walking backwards away from the dunk.

Did you understand the T?

Jan 17, 2018 09:46 AM #149

The "foul" on Vick when he got sandwiched by Ahmad and konate, and the last foul on Doke to take him out and try to give the game to WV were absolutely ludicrous. Our playrs showed unlimited restraint to deal with these obvious engineering ploys by the officials. Mitch really stepped up to seal the game with the huge rebound on the D end and the O rebound and slam. Btw...watching the replay, vick's shot was goal tended...tipped after it hit glass and missed by zebras. So Mitch s adjustment and dunk was even more crucial and impressive.

Jan 17, 2018 11:26 AM #150

@drgnslayr I have seen T's for staring. Last year or the year before, I think, there was a point of emphasis about mocking or intimidating gestures and looks.

Trying to avoid confrontations by applying kindergarten rules, someone called it, IIRC. "Teacher, Dok made a face at me!"

Jan 17, 2018 01:16 PM #151

@drgnslayr Here is an article about the Ncaa attempt to get more T's called for unsporting behavior (taunting, etc). Apparently acc to the refs in Monday's game staring can be considered hostile or aggressive behavior toward an opponent. Basically, Doke gets punished for having grown into a man's face from his previous baby face.

https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/1042283-ncaa-basketball-referees-instructed-to-call-more-unsporting-technical-fouls.amp.html β†—

OTH, the world has seen many confrontation in sports, bars, and the street caused by staring at someone wrong. These phrases are almost cliches:

"You lookin' at me?"

"What're you lookin' at?"

"Take a picture. It lasts longer."

No doubt the refs were trying to make sure the game was under control from the beginning. I would think, though, that they could have warned him not to use his DBF (dunking bitch face).

Jan 17, 2018 01:47 PM #152

@drgnslayr And I forgot last year LgV got hit just for screaming after his dunk against M State:

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/03/kansas-michigan-state-ncaa-tournament-technical-foul-tom-izzo-second-round/amp β†—

Jan 17, 2018 03:25 PM #153

I'm all for the NCAA legislating against the ridiculous screaming, yelling, posturing, etc. directed at opponents. An issue is always the consistent enforcement.

Jan 17, 2018 03:28 PM #154

@mayjay DBF! lol

Keegan: "Graham An Important Part Of This Year's Conference Title Run"

Jan 17, 2018 05:16 PM #156

Keegan: "I Want to Say I Don't Write These Headlines"

Byline, Mayjay
January 17, 2018

In a rare interview, Tom Keegan has admitted that the lampooned headlines appearing over his stories are, indeed, of his own sole creation.

"Yeah, I write them. As you know, newspapers have made huge cutbacks, especially in administrative positions like executive editor."

Asked if the cutbacks are why he writes the headlines, Keegan sighed and said, "No, I think it has more to do with the fact that no one wants to read my crap so I am the only one who knows what's in there."

"Really, I want to say that I don't write those headlines--but I can't say that."

Jan 17, 2018 06:28 PM #157

Keegan retracts writing headlines. Then retracts retraction .

Jan 17, 2018 06:34 PM #158

@mayjay

Thanks for the link!

Yeah, I understand how almost any behavior can draw a T... but just looking at a player from a distance while backing up? I would like to hear an explanation for that T.

I'm starting to second-guess myself. Maybe Doke said something and it wasn't visible on TV.

Anyone know?

@HighEliteMajor

Exactly. Konate was showing off and taunting after every block and not a T was called on him. Maybe the refs were more fearful of Huggy's wrath.

I find it ironic that players get a T for staring and coaches sometimes get one for stepping out of the box but do not get one for screaming at and berating the refs incessantly; I imagine if that would be the case Huggy and Coach K would not last until half time.

@JayHawkFanToo Yeah, and I thought it was much more recent. A lot of that happening as I approach SocSec.

@mayjay

I can relate to that. Soc. Sec. retirement age used to be 65 and now is 66 and eventually will creep up to 70 to keep the system solvent.
