Well serious times has arrived. - Conference Championship - - -check.

How does KU fare in the post season Big 12 ? - -Semi Finals I think.

As to how many teams I think get in the NCAA - - my guess is - - - 7:

KU : - - -Sweet Sixteen. - - -TCU - - 2nd round - - - - Texas Tech-- - -depends on Evans. - -With Evans better ( Great Eight ) - - with out - -Sweet Sixteen - - - West Virginia - - -Sweet Sixteen ( kind of weak with this but possibly ? ) - - - K-State - - - - 2nd round - - Baylor - - -2nd round - - -& I guess Oklahoma - -( very good chance - - 1st game exit ) - - - I just don't see Texas getting in. - - Could be a lot depends on how these teams do in the Big 12 Post Season Tourney. - -Either one loses in the opening game bodes not good for either.

I guess I will have to say I'll take Oklahoma over Texas at THIS POINT - -However if Texas makes a deeper run in the Big 12 post Season they might be the 7th team. - -The only way I see Texas as an 8th team I think they need to win at least 2 in the Big 12 post season.

As far as KU seeding in the NCAA'S - - I feel like we are a # 2 - -I can deal with that. - - I just don't feel we deserve a # 1 - - - I think when it is said and done Duke will be the 4th # 1` -- you probably looking at Virginia - their probably the overall # 1 seed - - then Villanova - - - - -Then Xavier - - -& Duke way I'm seeing it. -- # 2 works for me - -still will play in Wichita more then likely opening weekend. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I think we see multiple teams with losing records in the B12 make the tournament which is kind of dumb.

Me to guy. -- I also think when they get booted out early again will only feed into these others theories about how the Big 12 is such an over rated Conference. - It will always be this way until someone decides to stand up and do something in the tourney.

@jayballer73 Too bad TCU and TTU accumulated difficult injuries. I think both were at least S16 teams when healthy.

Checking latest Brackets this morning ESPN & CBS - Jerry Palm STILL have us as a projected # 1

I guess maybe; - -Both have us in the West; the top four seeds are projected;

ESPN: -- # 1 KU - - # 2 North Carolina- - # 3 Auburn- - # 4 Arizona

CBS: - # 1 KU -- - # 2 Michigan State -- - # 3 N Carolina- - # 4 Arizona

CBS - projection would be a pretty dam rough region

LOL North Carolina thought they would be a 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, they are a 6 seed in the ACC tourney.

@jayballer73 We do not want MSU. I don't care if they just lost to Michigan. They are dangerous and are as good as any number 1 seed.

MSU’s record is against poor pre-conference competition and a poor Big 10. Of the games they played against decent competition, they beat UNC and Purdue and lost to Duke, Ohio State and Michigan...twice. I would not be surprised to see them as a 3 or 4 seed since they are #14 in the NCAA RPI.

@Gorilla72 I assume you already have this in your head but maybe not on paper as I always do...teams you don't want to see in KU's bracket. Michigan has started to look like a 3-4 seed I don't want in our draw. A few other teams below I would love to have in other regions.

Duke - seems obvious but we don't match up well. They are tall, skilled and have NBA talent.

Zona - sort of similar to Duke but not as good.

Michigan - as mentioned above. They are on fire and tall and confident.

MSU - can Bill beat Izzo twice in a row? Can't say that's happened before.

Oklahoma State - If they magically make the tourney please don't let them in our region!

Grambling would be a nice 1st round opponent. Only team in the SWAC with a winning record and needed the conference tourney to get it..

The SWAC is a league operating at an enormous disadvantage in basketball. Grambling played 13 non conference games. All but one was a true road game. They went 4-9 in non-con. Prairie View played 14 non-con games. They actually had three home games, with the rest being true road games. They went 3-0 at home, 0-11 on the road. The conference as a whole uses their basketball schedule as a chance to generate income by traveling for most of their non-con schedule, often with several trips to Power 5 conference opponents. As a result, nearly every SWAC team is underwater recordwise every year by the time conference play starts.

Here's the rest of the conference:

Texas Southern, 13 true road games (including a trip to Lawrence), out of 13 non-con games. 0-13

Arkansas Pine Bluff, 13 of 14 non con games were true road games. 0-14

Southern, 9 of 13 non con games as true road games, 4-9 (4-0 at home, 0-9 on the road)

Jackson State, 9 of 13 non con games as true road games, 3-10 (3-1 at home, 0-9 on the road).

Alabama State, 7 of 12 non con games as true road games, 0-12

Alcorn State, 8 of 13 non con games as true road games, 4-9 (4-1 at home, 0-8 on the road)

Mississippi Valley State, 13 of 13 non con games as true road games, 0-13

Alabama A&M, 12 of 13 non con games as true road games, 0-13.

That's 24 non-conference home games total in the 10 team league. That's a tough way to grind through.

Probably a good example of a conference that shouldn't be in D-1. I was aware of Texas Southern but not the conference as a whole

@BeddieKU23 I'm torn on the issue. For competitive reasons, I agree. A team like Notre Dame could legit make the FF, but may not get in because of injury. If you eliminated some of the terrible conferences, you wouldn't hesitate to put them in.

On the other hand, it is what makes March special. Watching programs make the tournament for the first time ever, watching Norfolk State beat your rival, etc. These are the moments that burn into your brain for forever.

My only thought is that they need to let the leagues decide on whether they want the automatic bid to go to the Reg. season champion or the tournament champion. I look at the USD and SDSU game tonight as a great example. SDSU has earned their trip. They deserve to be in (even as an at-large imo, but that is moot) because they won that league. They put in the work, and somehow it all comes down to one single game. I just don't like it.

I couldn't be more on the fence on this topic. At this point, I say leave it alone because this is the best event in sports. Don't mess that up.

Is ND really that good? I know Colson is back. They just barely beat the worst Power 5 school in the country yesterday. I need to see more before I'm convinced they belong. Between injuries, depth issues ND doesn't seem like a team that belongs and I think its asking way too much for the committee to bend over backwards to take into consideration the things that have happened when their resume lacks.

I'm just wondering why the SWAC conference exist if it annually is playing most of its non-conference season away from home just to pay the bills to keep the team afloat. Seems like a lot of these lower conferences become "pre-season" like games for the P5 conferences. Michigan St for example sure made good use of these types

I’m not sure Colson is actually healthy or not. And I’m not sure hat ND should make the tourney. I’m just saying that if some of the small conferences that only produce 16 seeded teams were removed, we could open up a few more spots for teams like ND.

I agree if the foot was placed the other way I'm sure we'd be hoping the committee showed mercy. ND was legitimate in the beginning of the year but I don't see the same team anymore. Injuries obviously have thrown things off and ND came into the season with little depth because of some transfers. Tough season.

ND has 1 big win, Wichita St and nothing else. 7 straight losses in the ACC cannot be rewarded no matter the circumstance. They lost to Ball St.

The Ringling Brothers Circus Clown College would have been a better option, alas, it does not exist anymore. The creepiness of clowns would have been a perfect match for the Ball family.

The SWAC is made up of traditionally black colleges (HBCU). Along with the MEAC, that is most of the HBCUs in the country. While these schools have great history, they have been generally underfunded for a long time (most are state schools in the south...).

I don't want to get too far into all of that and away from basketball because the politics is complicated.

That said, the following conferences make up the leagues that are generally 14, 15, or 16 seeds:

America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, MAAC, MEAC, Northeast, Patriot, Southland, Southern, SWAC

Every now and then, one of those schools will make a run, or push a team to the brink, but generally, they lose.

The thing is, those schools and leagues allow Power 5 schools to have only one or two true road games. If there are schools that have only one or two true road games, there have to be others on the opposite end of that spectrum. Remove these schools from D1, and KU is playing a lot more non-con road games because teams in the American, or WAC, or Mountain West are going to want either a home and home or at least a 2 for 1.

The only way to do that is to give those schools a piece of the pie for the big dance. Otherwise, KU is away from AFH for at least three or four true road games every year.

@justanotherfan But that may help KU in the long run. Too many games in the comfy confines of Allen Fieldhouse may be a bad thing for an experienced roster that needs challenged...or a good thing for a roster that needs confidence. or a good thing due to a bloated record inflating our seed. Or a good thing because it generates a boatload of money. Or a good thing because @crimsonorblue22 and I can go see KU play in Allen Fieldhouse, the only place one should watch our beloved Jayhawks in person? Hell we should play all 40 games in Allen Fieldhouse. The other teams would surely appreciate the historical nature of the venue.
