Well game day is here and there isn't a single topic or thread on Nicholls State. That should be a very loud statement to the administration. Does this happen to you too: With game day approaching KU alum who knows you are also a KU football fan can only make jokes about how bad the program is instead of talking football? My KState acquaintances express sympathy for me. This is a must win and I'm anxious/nervous to see if our players know that and play hard. Last year's only W against SE Miss. was a lot closer than the score would indicate. KU just wasn't very good and didn't play hard. And of course that continued the rest of the year. But, I'm hoping and dreaming that our players come out and play with a nasty and inspired edge. Play tough Jayhawks.

Headed to Lawrence this afternoon hoping to see a win. I will say 34-28 KU.

I did see where Vegas opened the line at 10.5 and it is now at 5.5! If KU loses I seriously hope Long just tells Beaty to kick rocks and not even let him in the locker room. ( that’s another topic for another thread)

Hoping the boys get a W today! Everyone enjoy the first full Saturday of CFB!

@stoptheflop I think you bring up valid post friend, although I was just about to make a thread lol. The effort of the team is one of the biggest question marks IMO, if these players love Beaty so much will they stand up and fight for him? When I was at the CMU game last year, there zero energy from the sideline and very few players seemed to be putting forth effort. I think people have talked up Nicholls a little too much, they ain’t Bama, they ain’t even NDSU. Yes we have 2 losses to FCS teams the past but both of those were with new coaches and very little experience as a team. The keys to a jayhawk victory are, stop the run and force them into passing, their QB had 13 picks a year ago. Get ahead early, the loss to South Dakota State we got down by 20 early but were the better team after we woke up. A fast start will keep the pressure off and help get the mo going early. I like Kansas to win a hard fought game 27-23.

Question: Are you wearing KU gear today? If yes, are you wearing it outside your home? As I was putting on a plain blue t-shirt and cargos, I noticed I wasn't looking for a KU jersey to wear in support of my favorite team.

Well not exactly playing St Sister Mary's of the blind ya know. - They are ranked 17th in the FCS and came pretty dam close to beating some pretty good teams - we shall see I guess

Huh guess it's true you do learn something everyday. - Now this isn't directly KU related - however this makes it kind of special for me - makes me feel good for my wife. - Come to find out that her Nephew is the starting QB for the Oregon State Beavers. that's kind of cool.

Pretty good sized kid 6'7 and 230 lbs really decent size for a QB. - got hurt and was out most of the year last year - -he is a Senior. Ok, one more, and then I'll quit. Let the BB team help us win games. Let's install dedric as QB. He is the best passer on our team, and at 6'9", he will be able to see clearly over the defense. We'll go to the shotgun to avoid injury. The slot wr will KJ, and he'll use his 6'7" frame to shield defenders, and we could throw buttonhooks to him all day long. Our TE and goal line back will be Doke...yeah, try to defend a 7 foot TE. Try and stop a 7 foot 280 lb running back at the goal. He'd make Okeye look like a mighty mite. Grimes and Vick could be our wrs, and we could use Dotson as our h-back. On defense, we could use Vick, Grimes, Dotson, Dedric and KJ as our secondary. Vick can jump a mile. dedric could be our 6'9" safety. Just try and throw against him. Of course, Lightfoot would make an outstanding linebacker because he does enjoy hitting people. Our defensive line would be Doke at nose guard, and Silvio and MacCormick at defensive end- they would bat down passes all day. Of course I haven't forgot about my fav, Charlie. Somebody has to make sure those guys have water. Go get 'em, Charlie! I figure we'd be 9-3 and make the Orange Bowl...

Mixed feelings on that game because Maryland does not deserve nice things.

Kliff might be on the hot seat. 30-33 record currently and has had plenty of time.

@BShark agreed, also Beaty is 3-33 as our head coach anyone that picks them to lose looks pretty accurate and realistic. I hope Beaty turns it around starting tonight and I predicted a win but if you dont think this could be a loss you’re cementing your knowledge or lack there of this team and the game of football.

Did I tell u I meet Ryan schadlers parents at the wichita kickoff, sorry if I did. He was so close to dying. His organs were all twisted up, but not all the time, that's why it was hard to diagnose. He was having such pain, his appendix was about to burst, but the bad thing, it was around his heart. He set all kinds of records at Hesston, 3 a school, I think. Their family was a huge KSU family and Snyder wasn't interested so that's why Ryan went to WSU to run track. Before track started he missed fb to much and KU gave him a shot. Weird, but his mom found out that very day they talked to us, she had the same thing. Sorry if that was boring

The defense hasn't been bad after the first drive but the offense is leaving a ton on the field, dropped passes and sacks need to improve. Whomever get a turnover in plus field maybe the winner.

@BShark KSU has done this a lot in recent years against their FCS opponent. They typically have played better in the second half of their games, but this is the type of B12 team KU could beat because KSU hasn't been a high scoring team in several years and that will always allow a team like KU to have a shot at an upset.

Coach Beaty will be paid 1.7 million this year. During a pregame interview, he said he was letting the players take the lead during practices. Something like "player-led practices." Whatever Coach Beaty and staff are doing, it isn't working.

@DanR Realistically, firing Beaty doesn't do anything for KU at this point. Any potential candidate already knows the job will more than likely be available after this season so you're not really getting a head start on other programs.

It also doesn't help recruiting because any potential recruits are going to wait until whoever the new head coach is before committing to KU unless they're someone who's committing to KU no matter who the coach is.

As much as everyone wants to move on from Beaty now, there's no real benefit to firing Beaty until after game 6 when the interim will have 2 weeks to prep and make whatever changes he wants.

@jayballer73 Bender wasn't great but he wasn't the issue, had several key drops including a wide open TD. He really didn't turn it over because that was a shit call as was the no catch (one angle looked good, the other you couldn't tell, no way to overturn that). I'm just beyond pissed, if we end up in the mountain west it all leads back to this program and sweet Lou firing mangino. He is a liar and cheat, mangino knew this and it cost him.

Not to mention he was hit repeatedly but stayed in there. The offensive and defensive lines continue to be abouslute crap, they ran with ease and we couldn't run that was the difference outside of penalties and drops.

This loss is most certainly not on Bender.

Beaty is a great guy but he's had way too much time not to do significantly better against a team like Nicholls. That's all there is to it.

Looks like 0-12 is a realistic outcome for the season. Basketball cannot come soon enough and hopefully make up for the nightmarish football season ahead.

It's pretty crazy that Nicholls was basically dominant in line play. Is the oline somehow even worse than last year?
