@jayballer73 Who gets bumped off?

The first team was easy and obvious. Shayok, Brown, Culver, Wade and Lawson. Without a doubt all the guards there had a better season than Dotson.

Second team had Makai Mason and Desmond Bane who both had better seasons than Dotson.

sure not givin Dotson much credit there are ya buddy? - -I would of taken Dotson over Mason - -Mason hut to much - - Mason a scoring - -Dotson MUCH MUCH better overall player - -assisting - - rebounding - no doubt in my mind Dotson over Mason

Mason missed two league games.

I really don't have any major disagreements with the winners and All-conference selections this year. Maybe nitpicking stuff, but nothing that makes think that person didn't deserve what they received.

AND? - -Dotson by far a more complete player. - Mason's only thing is score that's it - - horrible defense player does the old wave of the hand defense. - what goes a player if all he is interested in is scoring - -an taking a break on the defensive end. - -You can have Mason - - I'll take Devon over him -in a NEW YORK minute.

Mar 10, 2019 10:23 PM #10

You claimed he missed too much time and I don't think that is accurate at all.

Mar 10, 2019 10:46 PM #11

So playing devil's advocate here.....
And I am not being a homer..just looking at the facts.
I understand that if your team wins the league...that counts for a lot.
But.....look at Culver's stats....not really high on the list in anything.
I understand that he is a really good player and you always had to account for him.
But ….Dedric led the league in scoring and rebounding.
Normally, that would get you player of the year.
And..we finished third and we only had Devon on the 3rd team......no one else even Honorable Mention.
Doesn't that say a lot about Dedric?

@Hawk8086

I think a big thing that has driven Culver for POY is the fact he is likely going to be a lottery pick. Perception plays a part in this. While dedrics stats were great I dont think he had a signature game where he put this team on his back where voters can hang that above Culver or even Brown. I know Dedric has some big games this yr but I think the league takes his "old man game" and given double double, 20 and just takes it for granted.

With KU Losing the streak I think there were those that believed the only way Dedric could win it is if the team continued the streak

And I don't think he deserves to be over Dotson at all plain and simple - other then shooting - he isn't squat - AGAIN Dotson for more of a COMPLETE player hen Mason by a mile. - It's ok though cause this is pointless to keep goin back and forth - -you have your opinion and no problem with it -- I've got mine and no problem with that. - we just agree to disagree - you still a Jayhawk fan so it's all good. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I'd rather it be Culver than Brown lol, I not one of the people that thinks the award should automatically go to the best player on the best team. We have had several seasons where we won it and didn't have the POY. I believe Culver only averages more assists than Dedric, every other stat go Dedrics way. Brown isn't as good of a rebounder or scorer as the other 2.

Mar 11, 2019 08:02 PM #15

Well Culver was a much better player this year than Brown.

@Hawk8086 I think a lot of it with Dedric is that he’s just such a boring player to watch. He can’t jump. He’s a subpar athlete (relatively speaking). He does nothing spectacular that you remember. He barely runs sometimes. But he just chops wood. He has an incredible knack/skilll for finding his way to the best spot to get a rebound. Very skilled footwork wise with the ball. Soft touch near the hoop.

I’ve never seen a player like him. He puts up numbers but many times I can barely remember much of what he did.

His D drives me nuts! Can't bend his knees or slide his feet. Hudy can't help that? But I appreciate what he can do.

Mar 12, 2019 03:08 AM #20

@HighEliteMajor spot on. When the announcer during the Baylor game said he had a 20 and 10 I was sure he had 7 and 5. It’s incredibly efficient but very boring. But as they say, a layup still counts for 2.

We are lucky to have Dedric in many ways. He has the 45 year old playing against 20 year olds at the YMCA look but he has pretty much gotten his in every game. Watching makes me wish I was 6 or 7 inches taller. Not often do I think I was a better athlete than a KU player but I’m a 6’1 guy that could dunk in high school and watching him run and play defense, there no question in my mind my vertical jump, 40 time and shuttle test would be better than his and by a fair amount. All that being said some people are gifted with great athletic abilities and some aren’t, some have size and some don’t. Speed and size are two things are mostly god given, you can improve speed but you ain’t gonna be Tyreek Hill if you don’t have it in your genes. Kinda reminds me of Kobe saying how lucky the NBA was that Iverson wasnt 6’5.

Agree. - -There have been a lot of times when hearing final stats - -I find myself wondering man how in the hell did he end up with those kind of stats - - and yet there he is - with yet another double double - - never seen a kid that can finish with so many rebounds below the rim. -- ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Not going to be a popular take, but I don’t like his game at all. You can’t rely on him on offense. He’s just a junk man. Bill designed the offense to go into Dok because he can seal his man off and dominate the lane. If you pass to Dedrick with his back to the basket look for an inefficient shot as he gets outmuscled by even a guard.

I am impressed with his length and ability to read and react to a rebound. He’s a little like Rodman in always being in the right spot, but he lacks that motor.

If all Lawson had to do was compliment Dok or McCormack he’d be awesome, but you can’t design your offense around him in the post, he’s by far best in space.

I honestly feel like KU will be better with a more traditional post that you can pound the ball in to. I’m hopeful McCormack will break out next season and is that guy.

Maybe I’m looking at this wrong, but Dedrick shoots 49% on 14 shots per game averaging 19 points per contest. Dok at 75% with 0% free throws on 14 shots averages 21 points per game.

Dok has his severe limitations too, but I prefer a big man that can post up to a finesse player who can’t.

@dylans Dedric needs a second big to be effective. He's not a natural low post player and he wasn't good when KU was playing the 4 guard line up. He needs a second post whether that's Dave or Mitch to let him work from the mid range.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Yes. He’s a good/great player. His per is 28+. I too don’t see him as able to carry the load by himself though. This my mild disdain for his game.
