2019 Championship TTU v. UVA
Apr 09, 2019 01:14 AM #1

Post comments here if you feel the need to vent. (I can't get the almost 2000-post "other games tonight" thread to scroll any more.)

Go tech! Or Virginia!

Wait till next year. RCJH

Apr 09, 2019 01:16 AM #2

Think they'll score?

Apr 09, 2019 01:18 AM #3

55 63 Texas Tech

Apr 09, 2019 01:19 AM #4

No team breaks 50 is my best prediction.

Apr 09, 2019 01:19 AM #5

Pulling for Tech, but it wouldn't suck to have Virginia win even though they're ACC.

Apr 09, 2019 01:21 AM #6

Culver needs to have a decent game. B12POY

Apr 09, 2019 01:21 AM #7

my ass

Apr 09, 2019 01:23 AM #8

I hope everyone took the under...

Apr 09, 2019 01:23 AM #9

Looking at a 30-22 game at this rate

Apr 09, 2019 01:28 AM #10

this is pathetic

Apr 09, 2019 01:31 AM #11

Anyone know the referees names? I've been trying to find them on the W W W

Apr 09, 2019 01:35 AM #12

According to my broadband world wide web,

https://www.newsleader.com/story/sports/2019/04/08/ncaa-championship-who-referees-officials-virginia-uva-texas-tech-basketball/3405652002/ ↗

The referees for the Virginia vs. Texas Tech title game are Ron Groover, Michael Stephens and Terry Wymer.

The alternate referee is Chris Rastatter.

Apr 09, 2019 01:40 AM #13

thanks DanR. My sister dated a DanR in HS. Are you 6'6"?

Apr 09, 2019 01:42 AM #14

@wissox 6-0. My cousin is 6-6. He's DonR though.

Apr 09, 2019 01:43 AM #15

Francis keeping Tech in the game.

Apr 09, 2019 01:46 AM #16

Italian stallion is in the house

Apr 09, 2019 01:47 AM #17

Virginia is allowed to travel now.

Apr 09, 2019 01:47 AM #18

that travel was obvious as hell

Apr 09, 2019 01:49 AM #19

Tech getting loose finally. The way they beat KU down in Lubbock, this is more like what I expected

Apr 09, 2019 01:50 AM #20

LOVE that baseline camera angle, CBS. Just show the entire game like that.

Apr 09, 2019 02:03 AM #21

About what I expected...solid defense leading to less-than-stellar shooting. Could be a case of "last team to score wins".

Apr 09, 2019 02:05 AM #22

Mooney is trying to do way to much for Tech

Apr 09, 2019 02:06 AM #23

I love offense but I’m actually enjoying this rock fight. It’s like a classic pitchers duel. As long as both teams are playing this way, I think it’s a fun chess game.

Apr 09, 2019 02:08 AM #24

Tech actually had an offensive strategy, but just missed shots (other than Mooney dribbling around on the perimeter nonsensically). I can't tell what Virginia is doing on offense.

Apr 09, 2019 02:10 AM #25

Virginia has a Garrett

Apr 09, 2019 02:11 AM #26

I think a lot of us have gotten "Curried."

We've been mesmerized by the three and the slam so much that we forget there are other ways to win the game.

Apr 09, 2019 02:29 AM #27

scoring droughts are killing Tech. /captain obvious

Apr 09, 2019 02:42 AM #28

Dang uva keeps making shots

Apr 09, 2019 02:45 AM #29

Culver coming up dry during the biggest game of his career - -gonna killem. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Apr 09, 2019 02:46 AM #30

Culver heating up

Apr 09, 2019 02:53 AM #31

tough to beat 60+% shooting, but UVA could even out and miss a few. Tech is still in it.

Apr 09, 2019 02:55 AM #32

Refs gave Virginia 5 points on that travel no-call in the first half and the BS "jump ball" on Mooney's rebound. IMO

Apr 09, 2019 02:57 AM #33

How the F was that not a tie up?

Apr 09, 2019 03:00 AM #34

Man, I don't want Mooney to try to do too much, but that guy needs to take the open shot

Apr 09, 2019 03:05 AM #35

Game is getting good. Odiase with the Chance to tie it under 4 timeout

Just canned a contested one

Apr 09, 2019 03:09 AM #37

Man, you gotta get that rebound Tech...

Apr 09, 2019 03:10 AM #38

Culver kinda sucks tonight.

Apr 09, 2019 03:10 AM #39

Culver is about as weak as Dedric

Apr 09, 2019 03:11 AM #40

Tech ought to take their chances on a free throw contest

Apr 09, 2019 03:11 AM #41

4-16 WOOF

Apr 09, 2019 03:14 AM #46

Tech ball

Apr 09, 2019 03:15 AM #47

how did it hit the BACK of the the player's hand? Thank you.

Apr 09, 2019 03:15 AM #48

Right call.

Apr 09, 2019 03:16 AM #49

definitely a tie up there. LOL

Apr 09, 2019 03:17 AM #50

What a mess

Apr 09, 2019 03:17 AM #51

Nice move

Apr 09, 2019 03:17 AM #52

Culver is the bees knees

Apr 09, 2019 03:18 AM #53

Who woulda thunk that recruiting services got him so wrong

Apr 09, 2019 03:18 AM #54

So, as long as all the tech players graduate and Beard takes a job at UCLA and Mahomes takes the chiefs to the Super Bowl victory ... I'm OK with Tech winning

Apr 09, 2019 03:19 AM #55

Don't leave Guy open

Apr 09, 2019 03:20 AM #56

Dumb shot

Apr 09, 2019 03:20 AM #57

passed up an easy 2? wow. Elijah Johnson was ahead of his time

Apr 09, 2019 03:21 AM #60

Hero ball

Apr 09, 2019 03:22 AM #61

Tech thought they were defending us

Apr 09, 2019 03:22 AM #62

get the italian guy the shot

Apr 09, 2019 03:24 AM #63

OT

Apr 09, 2019 03:26 AM #64

hottest team wins, unless someone suddenly gets sloppy with the ball, UVA.

Apr 09, 2019 03:26 AM #65

Tech is great defensively but they lost their heads on that tying three. When the guard drove the lane the D collapsed on him leaving that guy wide open out there. Big mistake.

Apr 09, 2019 03:27 AM #66

First OT since 2008. And how in the heck is that a rebounding foul on Culver?

Apr 09, 2019 03:28 AM #67

Anybody but culver

Apr 09, 2019 03:28 AM #68

Great spin

Apr 09, 2019 03:29 AM #69

Culver needs to be the decoy at this point

Apr 09, 2019 03:29 AM #70

Culver just layups

Apr 09, 2019 03:29 AM #71

Did he walk?

Apr 09, 2019 03:30 AM #72

WOW GUYS MATT MOONEY

Apr 09, 2019 03:30 AM #73

hard headed irish kid, Mooney!

Apr 09, 2019 03:31 AM #74

Officiating hasn't been awful, but the controversial ones seem to be tilted in Virginia's favor including that last one that I don't even know what happened

Apr 09, 2019 03:32 AM #75

Beard saving the TO

Apr 09, 2019 03:34 AM #76

OH PLEASE. he hit it out of Morreti's hand after he was already hacked.

Apr 09, 2019 03:35 AM #77

BULL SHIT

Apr 09, 2019 03:35 AM #78

These refs have become biased unfortunately ruining a great game.

Apr 09, 2019 03:35 AM #79

Yeah that was bad

Apr 09, 2019 03:36 AM #80

Didn't look like enough to overturn. No change in the direction of the ball spin.

Apr 09, 2019 03:38 AM #81

Game was tight before the usual ACC favoritism

Apr 09, 2019 03:40 AM #82

That should have been an and 1 on that layup.

Apr 09, 2019 03:46 AM #83

Culver should have drove it

Apr 09, 2019 03:47 AM #84

Never should have gone to ot

Apr 09, 2019 03:50 AM #85

Wonder what that guy who placed that $1500 bet on Tech at 200-to-1 is thinking. He could have cashed it in for $150k. Instead, he held out for the whole $300,000.

Those folks in Vegas must be taking a real deep breath right now...

Apr 09, 2019 03:52 AM #86

@approxinfinity Glad (for you that) your (second) team won!

Apr 09, 2019 03:53 AM #87

I want to vomit a little bit how they won. Reality no longer matters. There is only desired outcome and engineering to get there.

Apr 09, 2019 03:53 AM #88

Virginia put themselves in position to win. But there is no excuse for that call against Moretti.

Apr 09, 2019 03:55 AM #89

@approxinfinity I didn’t watch any of it; I’m not mad...yet. Lol

Apr 09, 2019 03:56 AM #90

Watching Virginia these last 3 games really make me wonder once again if it all ain't rigged. Each of those tight games had 2 or 3 questionable or flat out missed calls. All of those calls went Virginia's way, you just don't see that too often.

Tech had every opportunity to win. One non foul call (or not call for that matter) does not a game make. Tech was down double digits twice.

It was UVA’s night. Hunter was unbelievable. They absolutely were the better team tonight.

Apr 09, 2019 03:59 AM #92

@Kcmatt7 I know I know. But it's really uncomfortable when the refs overturn a call that they have no business overturning. That in my mind counts a whole lot more. Thats like taking a toy from a child and handing it to another child. It cuts deep.

There was also the foul on Culver when Hunter went over the back.

Him and Zhaire Smith. Same class. 2 3 star lottery picks.

Apr 09, 2019 04:28 AM #96

Anybody see one shining Zion?

Apr 09, 2019 11:57 AM #97

So people really think these games are rigged ?? My god.

Apr 09, 2019 12:20 PM #98

The replay of the Moretti ball out of bounds is a horrific use of replay in basketball. I knew this was eventually going to be a problem. Since the beginning of basketball officiating plays like that, which could be called a foul, isn't and instead, possession is awarded. They've done this to keep fouls lower and to not call a meaningless non-shooting foul and just call it a knocked out of bounds play. Now with last minute replay, a play like this is going to go to the team that fouled if the ball "slides" off the offensive player.

This is a can of worms that is opened, and I don't envy the refs having to deal with it.

Woodrow said:

Isn’t it obvious? The refs forced the ball off of his hand and also forced Hunter to drill a 3 and also forced UVA to throw the ball away on purpose to go to overtime.

If people want to say replay screwed Tech and want replay removed, sure. I get it.

But the ball did go off of Morretti even if it was a foul. Hunter did drill an ice cold 3. And Tech had their chance. It was a great game.

Basketball has always been officiated this way, with possession awarded instead of a cheap foul call. Replay is horrible in basketball except for stepping on the line calls.

No arguments. I prefer it not exist either.
