Fought their ass off to win the wildcard. Scrapping with the Dodgers now. Match up well. Feel free to root for them with me!

I have money on the dodgers. Sorry approx

Oct 04, 2019 02:50 AM #3

@Kcmatt7 then you should root for the Nats so you're a winner no matter what happens !

Oct 04, 2019 12:51 PM #4

Sorry I'm not rooting for either the Dodgers or the Nats lol. - -you already know my Yankees I do root for.

None of our rooting is going to matter anyways , think none of our teams are just not going to beat the Astros with that Pitching staff they have - - just insane , And lately they have been hitting a lot better too - -not a good combo for others -- they don't need much run support when you have a staff like that

Oct 04, 2019 01:07 PM #5

@approxinfinity You forgot the " G " in nats.

Oct 04, 2019 01:24 PM #6

@jayballer73 I've heard so much about the Astros but I haven't watched them recently.

Shouldnt Yankees fans root against their most successful crosstown rival, the Brooklyn Dingdongs?! Sorry, not sorry, Mets fans.

lmao - -well right now the one's I have to root against - -starts tonight those little twinke's - -we don't take care of business against them we don't have to worry about it lol. - - Getting Severino back was huge for us - -looks really good give us 5 innings with our bullpen we in good shape

MLB is awful. I went to more games than ever this year. Watched more baseball than ever. 11,000 fewer balls put in play over the course of a season compared to 2008 is what I just heard. Stupid MLB thinks winding the ball tighter will improve the game. So strikeouts rise and the game is increasingly becoming a 2 outcome game, longball or a K. No playoff games on their premier network Fox until at least the later stages of the League Championship Series. The year the hated Cubs were playing the Dodgers to go to the World Series, you know a pretty historical event, on a Saturday night Fox shows Kansas-TCU football. Cubs Dodgers were on FS1 and I had to try explain to my poor mom how to find the game on her TV because she couldn't find it. 4 games yesterday averaged 3:30 in length. No extra innings. @approxinfinity Dodgers-Nats game required 3:37 to score all of 6 runs total. Dodgers strike out 17 times in one game. Bob Costas on MLB network calling the Twins-Yankees game lamenting that the Yankees will could have to beat 3 100 win teams to win the world series, while the exact same thing is true for the Twins. Twins fans are mad as Hades. I could go on and on, like MLB games do these days.

My rooting interests this round are Nats because of @approxinfinity, Cardinals because it will make the cubs upset, Twins because no one wants the hated Yankees to win another world series, and Houston. Next year the White Sox will be in the conversation.

ummm I'm not a no one and I want the Yankees to win ANOTHER world series. - - I agree just like the Yankees and Twins last night -dam game took I believe 4 hours - -4 stinking hours - just to long. You have to be a true fan to stick with something like that.

I thought they were trying to speed the game up. - - I know from playing the game for many , many years myself - - -and as I was a Pitcher I truly understand I really do.

there is to much other/ then the true action - - -things like how many times a batter will call time - - - how many times a pitcher steps off the mound or throws to 1st with a runner on - - pitcher/catcher conversations - -it's nuts - -I thought they was going to put some kind of time restriction on this mound meetings and such - -the game is just to long.

And your right about the ball. - - The Yankees just set the record for home runs like 2-3 years ago> - -at 267 - -they said last night that I believe 6 teams broke that record this year - - -with Minnesota leading at 307 & the Yankees at 306 - -that's not helping things - -I don't know. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Go Yankees! A Dodger v Yankees World series will bring in the most viewers than any other combo. I'd like to see them meet up for the first time since the '80s.

Oct 05, 2019 05:24 PM #13

Not a Yankee fan. The epic Yankees v Royals showdowns in the mid-seventies made an indelible impression. That said, I agree Yankees vs Dodgers has some historic lure.

This is a problem though. The Dodgers are going to lose to the Nationals and you'd think by the announcers bias that they aren't even playing a competitive game. I'd rather see the teams who draw the least ratings win to say :middle_finger: to the :money_bag: machine.

Oct 05, 2019 10:01 PM #15

@approxinfinity I agree. THink back to the TTech Virginia final with Auburn and some other new team there. It was really enjoyable since my teams couldn't be there.

Oct 06, 2019 02:53 AM #16

@wissox I guess it was Michigan St at that final 4 so there was one blueblood still there but Tech shoved them out of the dance.

Oct 06, 2019 10:30 PM #17

average playoff game has lasted 3:31 and generally they've been low scoring affairs. zzzzzzz

Oct 06, 2019 11:31 PM #18

I mean sure I fell asleep last game until the 9th, but I wouldn't have if the game didn't start at 930. That part plus the 4 hour length is double the problem.

Don't understand why we can't have both games at same time. I think you lose more viewers because of the late time than you gain from having the games back to back. If the stats don't bear that out then I think the stats are short sighted. Sure, the immediate stats might show a bump for the night. But anyone wondering why there is attrition and apathy toward the sport has allowed themselves to be completely numb to the quality of the product.

This generation of ratings uber alles has in large part thrown intuition out the window.

Oct 09, 2019 05:14 PM #19

Still only 2 sub 3 hour playoff games. There's been twice as many 4 hour games. MLB is too stupid to realize that when your premier games require fans to watch for 4 hours nearly every day that those fans, unless they're diehards of the teams playing, are not going to stay up late, or spend fall afternoons for 4 hours watching baseball.

Strasburg has never been sharper than his last 2 outings. Filthy and under control. Let's hope he can tap into that a little bit more.

Walker Buehler needs a warm glass of humility.

They're playing the Cardinals, so I'm rooting for them.

Nothing I'd like to see more than an Astros-Nationals World Series, if for no other reason than that means the Yankees and Cardinals both lost.

Oct 16, 2019 09:01 PM #33

@BShark I'm not a Cards fan, just a Cards admirer.

@justanotherfan I too am hoping for Astros-Nationals. Dynamic pitching matchup it seems.

@approxinfinity Mad props to the Nats! Their roll reminds me of the Sox run in 05. 8 in a row!

Yeah!! The team is playing for each other and it's a beautiful thing. Seeing Parra and Sanchez giving a laughing Strasburg a hug sandwich in the dugout says it all about how this team feels about each other.

Both Max and Stras got hit early then settled. The O has been special this year, and the starters trust they can get them back in it.

Oct 24, 2019 07:50 PM #36

@approxinfinity - Can you ban yourself from this site until after the World Series? And even after that, never again mention this series. I feel like back in the 80's when I lived in Houston and rooted for the "Disastros".

Oct 24, 2019 10:14 PM #37

@nuleafjhawk woh woh woh. You just won a WS in 2017.

Ryan Zimmerman, Mr. Walkoff and face of the Nationals franchise since their return to DC, may be in his last year as a Nat and has never won a postseason series.

Did you think it was going to be easy?

Is there any shame in losing to a team that's red hot and hitting the crap out of the ball?

There's still time for the Astros to make this thing interesting. It ain't over til it's over.

Oct 24, 2019 10:29 PM #38

@approxinfinity blah, blah, blah, blah. Blah. Go 'Stros! Lol

Oct 24, 2019 10:42 PM #39

First decade in 100 years the Yankees won’t win a series title.

Edit - first decade in 100 years the Yankees didn’t appear in a World Series either.

Oct 25, 2019 04:58 PM #45

@dylans I like factoids like that. In fact in the last 19 seasons the Yankees have won as many world series as the Angels, Royals, White Sox, Cubs, Phillies, Astros, Dbacks, and Marlins. Even though they spend way more, receive way more media attention, are shown more often on national TV, receive favorable timeslots for postseason games. I will ignore the fact that they won 3 of 4 WS during the last part of the 1990's!

Oct 25, 2019 06:26 PM #46

@wissox ha. In the last decade, KU basketball has won as many NCs as Loyola. Ain't that right @loyolstud88 ?

Oct 30, 2019 02:47 PM #47

Looks like you get one more game @approxinfinity

Oct 30, 2019 04:50 PM #48

@dylans After the Nats started the season 19-31, they've had the exact same W-L at the Astros.

Max Scherzer, 3 time Cy Young winner, says the cortizone shot worked and his neck is feeling good. If we outduels Zack "Love Child Of Three-Way Between Star Wars Emperor, Jim Carrey, And BeetleJuice" Greinke, anything is possible!

Oct 30, 2019 06:36 PM #49

The chiefs packers Sunday night game has blown away every World Series game thus far in ratings. Which is kinda crazy considering Houston, I believe is the third or fourth biggest city in this county and it’s been a pretty good series from the little I’ve watched . I don’t like regular season baseball, too many guys standing and not even hustling a bit. But usually the month of the regular season and post season is entertaining.

Oct 31, 2019 04:13 AM #50

@approxinfinity congrats🥳⚾️

Oct 31, 2019 04:16 AM #51

Dam - -well the all mighty Houston Astro's all mighty pitching staff that was suppose to be untouchable wasn't quite mighty enough. - -Didn't really phase the Nats hitters that much.

Verlander was subject to the long ball all through the playoffs - -Cole is more likely then not taking his show to another team from the way it sounds - -it's ok - -I'll be able to sleep just fine though - - on to next year - - Congrads the Nationals

Oct 31, 2019 05:25 AM #52

Amazing series. Winning four road games (and weathering 3 losses at home) is about as incredible and unlikely way to win the WS as I can imagine.

When the Astros took out Greinke in the the 7th, I knew it was the crack that the Nationals needed. The home run was more of a fluke: 2 hits in 6 1/3 innings! And they took him out! The Astros' manager blinked.

I think if they leave Greinke in, he closes that inning with a 2-1 lead and most likely the Astros close out the game.

Oct 31, 2019 11:38 AM #53

Congrats @approxinfinity! Magical time of year. You win a WS and now after a few days, the Jayhawks play! And when the Jayhawks win it all in April, baseball will be starting again!

@bskeet I think you're right. Hintz blew that game. I even think he hurt Greinke's fragile psyche by having Cole up throwing even though Zach had only given up 1 hit.

Thanks guys. I've been pretty sentimental about this team all day. Great group of people. Consumate team. Very happy for them. This one meant a lot.

Nov 01, 2019 03:55 AM #56

@approxinfinity happy for you. This Nats team reminds me a little of the 2014 and 15 Royals. Just make the simple plays against a team that has spent 2 times as much on players. Definitely one of the oddest WS in memory. Has the road team won every game before?
