Anybody going?

Oct 26, 2019 03:55 AM #2

I really wished I was....

I'm still in Lawrence. Going to lil kids soccer tmrw. A friends invited me to the ku Vb game at 1. Never been🤩. Planning on going to the fb game w/my boys too. Trying to figure out logistics. Probably should do it all, don't get chances like that!

I'm not going to the game, but I'm interested in it. After last week's offensive explosion that was reminiscent of the Boston College game, it will be interesting to see how the offense does against Tech. Secondly, will the defense even bother to show up today? KU just needed one defensive stop in the second half to pull off the win against Texas, but couldn't do it. Special teams has not been a plus for us all year. That blocked extra point kick that turned into two points for Texas really was a heartbreaker. I sure hope KU puts all the pieces together this evening and gets a solid Big 12 home win. RC

The big key for us tonight is being able to take care of the ball - -no give aways. - - was listening to the Texas Tech play by play guy last night in an innerview with local sports guys here off Topeka radio - -he said they are good at taking the ball away - - creating turnovers - have like 9 in the last 3 games - -making the QB uncomfortable -we can't afford to hand them the ball over and over and expect to win.

Carter has got to make good reads - -be smart - - he was saying that actually Texas Tech was actually feeling a little better with our change in OC and the RPO - -cause he said the RPO that this league plays almost weekly , so not really much new to prepare for this- -the key he said for them to win was obviously was containing Pooka. - said the kid is a freak with break away anytime he touches the ball. - -we just got to play smart - -Tech's defense is better for sure then Texas - -we can win this thing if we play smart.- -let's do this - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@jayballer73 Did you get to watch the BB exhibition game? We had a few people commenting during the game and I don't recall seeing your observations. RC

ya I watched it for sure. - -just wasn't here for the game chat - -seen some good , yet seen things that were along ways from good - -but it's fine - were gonna be fine. - - Braun looks like he might be a little better then what some thought - -looks like he is going to be able to help.

one of my favorites Wilson showed he wasn't afraid to shoot - -lol - -maybe not necessarily a good thing at this point , but in all seriousness I think once he starts to find himself -he too can help us a lot. - - -Enanura not spelt right sorry - -long - -long wingspan - everything looks like gonna come smooth - -maybe a nickname - - ( Smooth ) - -needs to find his shot - - - Freshman nerves -gonna take some time.

Abajbi dam spelt wrong again anyways - -looks like he might be ready to really bring it - - - Marcus shot looks ALOT better - -if he can bring any kind of consistency with his shot - - this team can become lethal - - David looked like a fish out of water the other night - - Yet when asked Coach Self said when asked who his most improved player was from last year to this -- he said McCormack - - hands down - -we gonna be ok - - just take some work - -we got to remember - -they even had a line on THIS game - it was 32 - - we won by 30 and that was without probably our best player - - Dotson or Moss - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I’ve got a bad feeling about this one. 41-24 Tech. Got a fresh crow marinating just in case.

Oct 26, 2019 06:05 PM #10

Sadly, I always have a bad feeling before every football game. Perhaps, KU is feeling some confidence from the offense's success against Texas. But, the defense must play better to give us a chance.

Oct 26, 2019 09:25 PM #11

I'm hoping we the fans will get out and back the team tonight. If we have less then 35-40,000 tonight will be a major disappointment.

It's tie we let them know we are seeing they're progress. - -ya ya I know - - am i going - - No - BUT because my truck is broke down and in the shop entire new clutch system - - yippee. - -these guys need our help let the opposing team there is some fire.

I say - -KU 34 - - -Tech 31 - - - -Tech is giving up 184.7 yards rushing per - -( 93 rd ) - - in the nation - - - an average of 4.57 per rush attmpt - -BUT we haven't stopped anybody in their rushing - -we have got to get stops - -they average 150.7 yards rushing - that might not be good for us - -we are giving up 223.4 yards rushing per game - - dam that sucks - -a 4.9 per clip - -you get 5 yards per makes the offense pretty simple - -time to shut it down - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Oct 26, 2019 10:22 PM #12

@jayballer73 I looked at Tech's stats and they rely on the pass way more than rushing. Their passing yds is twice the amount of rushing yds. So, if our doggone secondary will show up, maybe our rushing offense will outscore Tech.

Oct 26, 2019 11:09 PM #13

No points surrendered on the TO. Let's go offense.

Oct 26, 2019 11:16 PM #14

Nice coverage on the punt. Let's go defense!

Oct 26, 2019 11:16 PM #15

Offense needs a spark, hopefully defense can get another stop

Oct 26, 2019 11:20 PM #16

Shit call there, tech player lowered his into Bryce

Oct 26, 2019 11:27 PM #17

I despise replays for targeting.

Oct 26, 2019 11:46 PM #18

throw the ball down the field

Oct 26, 2019 11:47 PM #19

well, that worked until it didn't

Oct 26, 2019 11:48 PM #20

They wouldn't count that as a touchdown if he dropped it like that

Oct 26, 2019 11:50 PM #21

Tough start: 2 TO's and an ejected player for targeting. I wonder about attendance. I notice the TV view seems intentionally focused on the field and not the stands.

Oct 27, 2019 12:03 AM #22

Spotted Tech 17 points. Made them earn most of them, but we better get the offense going.

Oct 27, 2019 12:08 AM #23

thats a TD

Oct 27, 2019 12:15 AM #24

Why was that not reviewed? Offense must score every touch from here on out and hope the D can force FGs.

Oct 27, 2019 12:16 AM #25

Clearly was a TD pass. I think stanley would have rather had the 54 yard TD pass than the sneak.

Oct 27, 2019 12:23 AM #26

get out of bounds guys. the extra yard isn't worth it

Oct 27, 2019 12:24 AM #27

TD Yes!! Robinson has some wheels.

Oct 27, 2019 12:25 AM #28

Perfect timing to discover a KU game on TV! TD!

Oct 27, 2019 12:26 AM #29

Carter getting his mojo back.

Oct 27, 2019 12:27 AM #30

Should be several flags on that run back

Oct 27, 2019 12:27 AM #31

@DanR Bunch of cheaters!

Oct 27, 2019 12:30 AM #32

Very good end to the half after a lousy start.

Oct 27, 2019 12:55 AM #33

Defense has to do something here, that wont work, way too easy.

Oct 27, 2019 01:00 AM #34

Defense needs a TO badly

Oct 27, 2019 01:20 AM #35

Doooyyyyy.

Oct 27, 2019 01:21 AM #36

Gotta gave 6 here or we probably are done

Oct 27, 2019 01:23 AM #37

I’m old enough to remember people saying Bender was better than Carter

Oct 27, 2019 01:24 AM #38

@Woodrow Carter the last 2 weeks and the BC game has looked like one of the best QBs we've had not counting Ressing.

Oct 27, 2019 01:24 AM #39

So will special teams cost us another game like last week?

Oct 27, 2019 01:25 AM #40

@nwhawkfan could, I doubt the defense can get enough stops but who knows. We need a turnover in a bad way right here.

Oct 27, 2019 01:31 AM #41

Big stop D!, let's go offense

Oct 27, 2019 01:32 AM #42

Time of Possession: TT 28 min/ KU 16.. Tough to score without being on the field.

Oct 27, 2019 01:35 AM #43

Love to see a long drive to give the defense some rest here

Oct 27, 2019 01:35 AM #44

The injured Techster graduated with my daughter from HS. Douglass Coleman of Zachary, LA!

Oct 27, 2019 01:40 AM #45

HOLY CRAP ! STANLEY'S GOT THE TOOLS !!!

Oct 27, 2019 01:41 AM #46

What a throw. Just a dime on the run!

Oct 27, 2019 01:42 AM #47

Just think if we had this OC all season. Les Koening maybe the worst coordinator in Kansas football history. Hopefully the defense can get another stop.

Oct 27, 2019 01:42 AM #48

Wow, this is fun!

Oct 27, 2019 01:43 AM #49

Tech's Duffy is due for an interception, IMO.

Oct 27, 2019 01:44 AM #50

Robinson was wide open on that last TD play too.

Oct 27, 2019 01:49 AM #51

Gonna have to do it again, may end up being like last week. Just can leave that much time on the clock

Oct 27, 2019 01:50 AM #52

61 total points so far and we're not down by 61 (like a few other games this decade).

Oct 27, 2019 01:53 AM #53

Ref has a west texas accent

Oct 27, 2019 01:57 AM #54

I wouldve gone for personally, that cut block was right on the edge of the pocket and a very questionable call.

Oct 27, 2019 01:59 AM #55

facemask

Oct 27, 2019 02:00 AM #56

Lets go D

Oct 27, 2019 02:02 AM #57

I thought they was gonna call that a horse collar and I was gonna lose it lol

Oct 27, 2019 02:08 AM #58

@kjayhawks Yeah, my wife was looking at me like boy you gone lost your mind

Oct 27, 2019 02:10 AM #59

SMOKED 'EM !

Oct 27, 2019 02:10 AM #60

Great run. Boy, this is interesting.

Oct 27, 2019 02:11 AM #61

Come on defense, another stop please!

Oct 27, 2019 02:12 AM #62

I'm still waiting for Duffy to throw us a pick. Now would be a good time!

Oct 27, 2019 02:12 AM #63

What's the rule? That guy fair caught it on the 1 yard line. He was not in the end zone.

Oct 27, 2019 02:13 AM #64

@wissox They changed it. Fair catch brings it out to the 25. Stupid.

Oct 27, 2019 02:14 AM #65

@wissox and @DanR

Trying to eliminate so many hits on kickoffs

Oct 27, 2019 02:14 AM #66

@DanR Wow, hadn't heard about that. I understand player safety is important so we might as well just start putting flags on them and let them play flag football.

Oct 27, 2019 02:15 AM #67

@justanotherfan It ruins a great kick though, like that one.

Oct 27, 2019 02:15 AM #68

@wissox

They should just eliminate kickoffs. Tons of penalties anyway. Lots of risk without much reward. Just start on the 25 and call it good.

Oct 27, 2019 02:15 AM #69

Great stop ! Just in time.

Oct 27, 2019 02:16 AM #70

KU needs to control the ball and score late for the win.

Stanley should have thrown that away.

Oct 27, 2019 02:17 AM #71

We are having no trouble using up clock

Oct 27, 2019 02:18 AM #72

I want a TD. Not comfortable with kicking...

Nice!

Oct 27, 2019 02:20 AM #75

one more run and then go for the bomb

Oct 27, 2019 02:21 AM #76

lassiter has made some clutch catches this half

Oct 27, 2019 02:21 AM #77

NO SACKS

Oct 27, 2019 02:22 AM #78

KU's receivers look like they are some playmakers. Charlot, Parchment, Robinson, Lassiter all have made plays after the catch.

Oct 27, 2019 02:24 AM #79

I'm weirded out by left footed kickers. Make me a believer, #46

Oct 27, 2019 02:25 AM #80

try it again!

Oct 27, 2019 02:25 AM #82

Oct 27, 2019 02:26 AM #83

Oct 27, 2019 02:31 AM #91

@nwhawkfan I'll be there to help for KState!

What a great game.

Oct 27, 2019 02:31 AM #92

What A GAME, one crazy ending.

Oct 27, 2019 02:33 AM #93

Oct 27, 2019 02:35 AM #94

Oct 27, 2019 02:35 AM #95

After what happened in the Big 12 today, every one of our last four games now seem winnable.

Oct 27, 2019 02:36 AM #96

Hell yes!

Oct 27, 2019 02:40 AM #97

KSU will be super tough but OU ran all over them, they just had no defense. You gotta credit our defense without one of the key guys in Bryce. How about Carter Stanley 725 yards, 7 touchdowns and 1 pick in the last 2 weeks. Easily the best 2 game stretch since Ressing. I'm ready for next now, it wont be easy tho. Gonna be a war!!

Oct 27, 2019 02:43 AM #100

We are bowl eligible if Dearmon is the OC all year. CHANGE. MY. MIND.

Oct 27, 2019 02:43 AM #101

@BShark Just need three more wins !

Oct 27, 2019 02:48 AM #102

@BShark we are probably bowl eligible right now with Dearmon and fair officials last week.

Oct 27, 2019 02:50 AM #103

Will be an up hill battle to get there this late in the year and minimal room for error. Either way I'm very proud of this team and how they have battled every second.

Oct 27, 2019 02:52 AM #104

How pleasant. Almost November and we're still talking KU football ! (In a good way.)

Nite all !

Oct 27, 2019 02:54 AM #105

Harbaugh is finally gonna get a top 10 win over Notre Dame who really shouldn't be in the top 10 lol.

Oct 27, 2019 02:55 AM #106

Unreal win. Went to the game. Last week we deserved it. This week we didn’t.

But proof the program absolutely is legit. Competing like this two weeks in a row has been a treat.

Oct 27, 2019 02:58 AM #107

@Kcmatt7 I'm not sure why you would say we didnt deserve it. The first block kick should've been a penalty be the guy was clearly on someone's back. The announcers pointed it out plain as day in the replay on TV. The defense rose up to the challenge and got big stops. We had more yards in less plays. I hate to be a dick but why didnt we deserve that one?

Oct 27, 2019 03:04 AM #108

That poor boy from TTech that fumbled the blocked FG is the kid from our town in Louisiana whom my daughter graduated with 4 years ago. He's actually a very good player, but I suppose he'll be the subject of look how TTech lost this game stories.

Outside of the long TDs, it took until late in the game to actually move the ball. 1st half offense was a joke outside of the two big plays.

Top it off with the lucky recover fumble...

I could get into it more, but I thought the win had more to do with a terrible game plan with no adjustments by Techs D than I did us executing. They were predictable and refused to make adjustments. Good job by Dearmon and Stanley to pick them apart though.

@Kcmatt7 I agree that the offense was stagnant in the first but 2 drops were killer and we was open deep all night long. Stanley missed too long twice. I feel like we didnt execute easy plays early and Tech was fortunate on several plays. Two fairly even teams IMO. If KU starts better and doesnt lose Bryce, it's a 10 or 14 point KU win.

Oct 27, 2019 03:31 AM #112

@Kcmatt7 that and Tech continued to throw the ball late with a lead and averaging 5 yards per carry. That's asking for trouble, two eaches own my friend.

Guess who saw a fun game?🥳🤩

Oct 27, 2019 04:33 AM #114

Feel bad for the kid that Leon Lett’d this thing.

BUT! My lord. This team fights like hell. We would’ve folded down 17 in years past. But did we? No! We took it to them. We scored 37 in 35 minutes of game time. Was it pretty all the time? Nope. Did it almost give me a stoke and damage my liver? Yep. But did we come out of it 1-0? ABSO FORKING LUTELY.

Man guys and gal's - - can you believe it? -I mean decent amount of fans in the stadium again , some electricity , - - can you believe that we still have any interest in a football game heading into the last part of October ?

Can we fully understand exactly just how close this team actually is to being 6-2 instead of 3-5 ? - - Does Coastal Carolina ( No Pooka Williams ) - - - West Virginia - - -- Texas come to mind?

Dam I'm proud of these guys - -they don't give up. - Just to have a OC that has that confidence in his QB - -that QB knowing he has his Coach's support -Yes his 1st pass of the game was dum - -YET that pass to Robinson hit him right on the money - - full stride - -how sweet was that ?

This was BEFORE the Tech game. It probably went up given Stanley has a 91.5 QBR last night.

@jayballer73 Didn't look like a decent crowd to me. Box score says 31,000. Exciting though none the less.

Oct 27, 2019 01:38 PM #127

Like the necessary change at offensive coordinator, isn't it time to give special teams coordinator, Mike Ekeler his walking papers? There are just too many breakdowns in all phases of our special teams. Maybe it's too late in the season to improve special teams, but something needs to be done. Liam Jones doesn't seem to have the leg strength for kickoffs and his FG accuracy is disturbing. Out of 6 KO's, Jones only had one touchback and if my math is right, averaged kicking only to the 11 yard line on kickoffs. Texas Tech seemed to start each drive on their 30 or better.

I thought Texas Tech was getting improper leverage on other players' shoulders while successfully blocking our kicks, but our line must block better. I'm sorry to spoil all the good cheer here, but special teams is a really weakness and is costing us W's.

Oct 27, 2019 02:03 PM #128

Seemed like a pretty good crowd!

Compared to previous years, a much better crowd. It’s not full, no. But it’s slowly growing.

There were games a few years ago that you’d be lucky to see 10k.

I’d say there were legitimately 20k or more yesterday.

Oct 27, 2019 02:26 PM #130

@Kcmatt7 You say lucky fumble recovery; I would call it fortunate. Even without the fumble recovery and successful FG, the game is tied and we go to overtime. I view the first half offense as our offensive strength, rushing being successfully defended by TT putting 9 defenders at the line of scrimmage. With the focus on stopping Pooka and our running game, that opened up the passing game. KU's offensive strategy seemed to be show the run, keep running, then take shots downfield. We have really good receivers, who provide a great compliment to our running game.

Oct 27, 2019 02:53 PM #131

@Kcmatt7 Yep, last years average attendance was just over 19,000 and had a few games where the announced attendance was 14,000. This year we are averaging over 32,000.

@stoptheflop Bottom line is KU shouldn't have needed to kick a game winning FG last night. KU should have already been winning at that point.

KU has had 4 blocked FG's the past 2 games (I'm including the two PAT's in this). I don't care if that blocked PAT last night was a penalty or not, 4 blocked kicks in two games should be unacceptable and shows a major schematic flaw with the FG unit.

And I will say KU was very damn lucky last night to win. Blocked kicks are huge momentum plays and had KU not been lucky that the Tech player made an extremely dumb play, Tech goes into OT with all of the momentum and probably wins at that point.

that's sad. If my dam truck wasn't broken down would of like to gone. Then again on the other hand - - how many fans do you think we would of had there for this game last year ? -- about 1/2 of that. - -Gonna take time I reckon but slowly but surely they will be back. - -This team is bringing excitement back to the field. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Fun to see a field full of students on the field after the game w/the team. Did they show Jeff long in front of the goal posts? The players went over and thanked the band too. Cool to watch! Might have to go next sat. The Vb gals played pretty good against Texas. I kinda quit following them after all the losses. The new place is really nice! Saw a lot of games thurs-sat.

Oh well! We had more points at 0:00. There are some issues but this team is frankly well ahead of where I thought they’d be.

KU is in the exact same position as last season. 3-5 overall and 1-4 in league play with self inflicted mistakes costing themselves multiple games each season. KU has winnable games the rest of the way this year, but they had winnable games last year as well and lost because of self inflicted errors.

That "Oh well!" is exactly why KU lost last Saturday. It's an issue that's cost KU at least one win this year.

If KU wants to win another game the rest of the way, they are going to have to fix the issues in the kicking game because they've left 10 points on the field the past two games. These are the kind of mistakes that have a huge impact on the field. KU absolutely has the schedule to try and get to 6 wins, but KU has to clean up their FG unit to maximize those chances.

By record, that's technically correct. But, let's take a little deeper look. Scoring? Up 4 PPG. Average game margin? Games are 2 points closer. Total offense is up 50 yards per game. Averaging a yard per play more on offense. Defense has regressed a bit, but that's to be expected given they lost half the tackling production from last season, including the entire front 7. And all this against a better schedule.

You're misreading oh well. Not that I don't care we made mistakes (like I said above, it wasn't pretty and we need to fix some things). I'm just going to take some time and enjoy a win. Sorry if you can't.

This team is significantly improved and getting better, especially since Dearmon was promoted. My goal coming into the year was 4 wins, and we've got a good shot at that. Any more is gravy. We've got enough to hang with KSU, though our lack of depth up front will be exposed by their really good line. We're going to have to hang another 40 on them to stay in it.

@Texas-Hawk-10 they definitely have to get the protection fixed on FGs if they want to win again. If not for your buddy Koenning we probably have 5 wins. I still say my 4 win prediction to the year most likely happens. I just hope we win this Saturday.

@jayballer73 We are competing better IMO. Especially when you figure that we returned a mere 9 guys. I think last years club was more talented especially defensively. Add in Herbert quitting on his team and several injuries. It would hard to expect much more. We only have 1 embarrassing loss to TCU so far. We really only had 3 embarrassing losses last year.

I'm guessing Dom Williams must be done too , he has been nowhere on the field to be seen for awhile. - -With him the 3rd man at the beginning and then Herbert leaving you would of thought he would of seen more time - - I think he is gone too - - another transfer - -it's ok we still have Gardner and Pooka - -we gonna be fine

@jayballer73 I'll admit I don't follow KU Football as closely. I didn't realize that as someone said we might have had 10,000 for a game like that in recent years. What i saw on TV didn't look like a decent crowd, it looked like a crappy 1980's (when I attended) crowd. It seems like others are thinking attendance is moving up and thought the crowd looked decent. This is a good sign! Hope your truck gets fixed!

ya, the fans are for sure showing more interest and ARE coming back compared to last year for sure. - - I remember the final home game las year - you talk about a total embarrassment. - -they would be lucky if there was 10,000 there.

We keep staying in games like we are fans are coming back. - They may seem pitiful to you but bog difference between this yr and last. - - didn't take ONE year to drive them away - -can't take ONE year to bring them back - - 31,00 for sure isn't something to get tickled to the bone about -- BUT sure the hell of a lot better then last year.

I remember the days when you could go to the Stadium like I did - -back in the day of David Jaynes - - Bruce Adams - - Tony Sands - - - Gilbert Brown - -Dana Stubblefield guys like that - -that place always had lots of people those were the days. - -The Mad Hatter is bringing us home. - - Oh thanks on the truck - -gonna cost us right at 1,000 to get it fixed - - pocket change lmao. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

That Coastal Carolina loss really stings now, because if that had been a win, there's a decent shot that KU could dream about going bowling this season. How crazy is that.

A bowl game is a long shot at this point needing at least one win over a ranked team and at least one road win.

But KU will have a shot at a bowl game for at least three more weeks. When's the last time KU football was into November with a shot at a bowl?

And this can only help recruiting. If you are looking around, KU is definitely a school to consider right now.

The lack of depth is hurting our special teams, but we have more athletes on the way. That will help steady the ship on special teams, and help us deal with injuries and defections.

If we get a little more athletic on defense, this team has a shot at going to a bowl next year, and contending for an 8 or 9 win season by 2022.

One drive away against both Coastal Carolina and WVU. Literally one play away against Texas. That's bowl eligibility right there. And even if all of those don't go KU's way, if some of it does, they are probably still going bowling if they had four wins right now, and almost certainly if they had five.

Can't change the past. Gotta look forward to the opportunities in front of us.

Bowl or not, a win over any 2 of the next 4 would change perceptions of some of the most staunch skeptics.
