That could have been avoided by sitting Dotson and the guards earlier when the result was not in doubt

This could be one of the worst officiated half’s I’ve seen in a while, at least half of our fouls are laughable and about a dozen missed on them. Dave sucked very badly this half after a solid outing last night.

@Hawk8086 Offense was a lot better with Doke in the game. Passes that led to dunks/fouls with Doke frequently led to turnovers/missed shots with Silvio or Dave.

There have been a few bad calls both ways but I feel like the 2nd foul on Doke had the biggest impact on the game. Mac has happy feet.

Pretty disappointing half and if Udoka keeps getting those fouls that have plagued him is entire career then I'm not sure we will have enough offense without him on the floor. Somebody has to step up and make a perimeter shot to open things up and the refs need to stop acting like 35 isnt fouling Dotson every time he comes around a screen

By the way, our point guard is playing pretty well. 6/8 FG, 17 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals. He's the best player in the game so far.

Doke is the most important player on KU's roster. He has to play as much as possible

Ochai 1-7 that half. Need him or someone besides Dotson to step up and make some shots.

If they can’t guard the 3 better it probably won’t matter though.

When the refs target Doke like this he never adjusts. His 3rd and 4th fouls will be the same as the first half

KU's overall strategy is fine. Make someone other than Toppin beat them and so far, UD has other guys stepping up.

This is why I kept saying in the off-season that either McCormack or Silvio had to develop range to make a high-low work with Doke. Tristan is probably the best fit in that role for now.

We were basically the opposite. 60.5% from 2 after 62.5% from 2 against UCLA. It's very nice to have overpowering bigs.

@BShark 4 is our weakest link and most the teams we play will be better at that spot until one of our youngsters grow up. KU has a couple of kids that could go in his range like Tristan.

We are a couple of laughable calls against us vs Duke in 11-12 away from being 3 in a row. I will always remember that game for Bilas even calling out some of those trash calls. I like winning early in the season while some big improvements needed. Dayton is good but probably doesn’t play much better than that the rest of the year.

The box score shows Moss played 36 minutes, only took one shot and had 0 points. Kind of reminds me of Grimes.

@stoptheflop Yes we need a lot more from him. Three players scored 78 of our points. GOOD THING!! Need more balance in the future to be really good.

Did he need to shoot today? Doke was 12-15 from the field. Dotson was 11-16. Garrett was 6-10. The game plan was clearly to throw the ball inside to Udoka. When we couldn't, Dotson or Garrett would break down the defense and try to get a layup or get to the free-throw line. I'm glad Moss didn't try to force anything today because he didn't need to. He also had 0 turnovers and played decent defense.

Grimes probably would have tried to get his shots in today. And we probably would have lost because of it.

Elephant in the room -- decision not to foul, up three, when the clock got under 7 seconds. You know, I can assure that this approach will cost us an exit from the NCAA tourney (right, it did, see 2013).

@KirkIsMyHinrich Good point. I noticed yesterday Moss looked off balance on a few of his shots. He may be pretty decent if he will get his feet set, and not rush his shot. We are going to need him to contribute along with Ochai for a balanced offese.

@HighEliteMajor Agree. I can not understand why any defense would allow a 3 point try to tie when under 6 seconds. Was that the Michigan game?

@KirkIsMyHinrich Agree on Moss. I didn't see that he had any open looks. They refused to double Doke and guarded our guys on the perimeter. Mistake. I would have doubled Doke and forced him to kick it out.

@HighEliteMajor I was hoping we would try to foul, but maybe HCBS was leery of the 4 pt play or 3 FTs which can provide 2 pts and a putback opportunity. If the player trying to foul isn't guarding exceptionally closely right before fouling, a quick shooter can get a shot away. And Dayton's guys were very quick at it.

I still blame the Michigan game on the pouch punch by EJ, but I get your point.

Hopefully the guys are enjoying the time there. We don’t have a game til the 7th of December, it will be nice to get rest and time to improve.
