Everyone can see that KU is playing with more intensity on both ends of the court the last several games. If we play defense and offense like we did against OU and ISU today, KU has a great chance to get a road victory over the number 1 team and get back to even in the Big 12 race.

Those high ball screens with Doke should be used a lot they really started camping at the end of that half anticipating drives and we made very timid passes then just missed shots

Bill wanted to go 2-1 at the end and KU didn't do it. Self kept screaming GO to Dotson with 45 seconds left and Dotson just held it. Villanova end game Dotson made an appearance at the end of this half.

Refs also need to even out the calls. That was 8 on 5 most of the half. Vital should've had several more fouls called on him.

How the refs call the second half probably dictates who wins today.

We were the much better team that half outside of the first two minutes and last two minutes. The refs really kept them in it when we was up 9 IMO.

Need to avoid cheap fouls. We have 4 with 2. They don't have anyone with more than one, so they can be even more aggressive than they were...

There should be some way for the officials to be in the same position on both ends of the court. Here, the official under the basket on our end is letting them play, but when we are on defense the other official is calling a tight game in the paint. And, no it doesn't even out when we switch at the half because we must play differently with all the extra fouls on us. 10 fouls called against us and 5 against Baylor. BS

Baylor is not a #1 team and I wouldn't necessarily say we are either, but today, we just beat the consensus #1 in the nation. It's going to kill the writers because it doesn't fit their narrative. Baylor is a good shooting team, quick, and athletic. But they have no inside game and they run nothing except through their backcourt. It was their weakness all year. We finally defended well enough to grind the W.
Great game and we now have at least a share of the B12. Baylor has nothing to be ashamed. We need them to represent in the March dance.

Not fouling has always been Self's philosophy in that situation because of how much pride he takes in playing good defense.

Some observations:

The officiating sucked.

Agbaji needs to play better. He looked afraid the entire game.

Scott Drew got dunked on all day because he couldn't make in-game adjustments defensively.

Doke is a God.

Ochai wasn’t bad defensively, he’s just had terrible game on offensive. We all just need to remember he’s hardly even a sophomore with missing half of the season last year and this was easily the biggest game of his career.

I really hope there's this series ends up a trilogy this season in KC. These legitimately are 2 of the 4 best teams in college basketball this season and the atmosphere inside Ferrell Center was incredible today. Only thing comparable I've been too was mid to late 2000's Texas in Austin.

To win a NC we are going to have to learn how to finish a game. This one could have gone bad easily. Villanova. Lack of execution down the stretch against Duke cost us then too.

@StLJhawk you can say that with 20 different plays on both sides in a game this close. If Moss hits that 3 he was short on with 2 minutes to go if Ochai hits one of his 2 wide open ones or his lay up. I would’ve done the same as Bill with how good Vital is on the glass.

@wissox I thought coach left Dok in too long during the last minute when KU was having trouble getting the ball in bounds. KU needed another ball handler in the game, not Dok down at the other end of the court. I think Dok was in until the 7 sec mark. No offense to Dok; he won the game for us today. We just needed a fifth, great FT shooting guard in the game when we were desperately trying to in bound the ball. Great win.

Just relooked at that play and agree with you. Doke was wide open under the basket and the Baylor player was nowhere near. Thinking Doke could have dunked for worst case and and-one opportunity.

Still not sure of Moss's passing ability but should have been able to not screw that up.

NBA big guys now like to get out in open space. There's a clear drop off from Doke to him but he certainly finds ways to make the most of his minutes since becoming the backup.

It would be interesting to see Self revisit that comment. Could have been true at the time of the question. Dave has improved a lot since his freshman year no doubt. When comparing him to Sr Azubuike it becomes clear how far away he still is from being that kind of dominate force for KU. Doke was half the player he was as a Soph. I don't know if we will see a big impact the game at the level Doke has been all season long. It's really remarkable to see what he's been able to do.
