Half the damn roster transferring out.

Mar 13, 2020 10:57 PM #2

FWIW. Someone from Wichita on FB is saying the transfers are Gregggg has agreed to become the next UT coach. Anyone?

Mar 13, 2020 11:00 PM #3

@Gorilla72 I think Texas could do better, wonder if the Belein deal fell through.

Mar 13, 2020 11:35 PM #4

@BShark they didn't want him last time, didn't even interview him.

Mar 14, 2020 03:21 AM #5

If it's true, Texas better start looking for a new AD. The current one will be admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Talking about frying pan to fire..

Mar 14, 2020 11:59 AM #6

Under no circumstances should he be allowed in the big12

Rumors that Greggggg has been showing up to practices drunk.

@BeddieKU23 There is a state of the program thread on shockernet. Hate to see it.

Shaka isn't leaving yet. His buyout is over 10 million.

Mar 17, 2020 05:38 PM #17

Maybe Marshall is just practicing social distancing. ;)

They have that in their front pinkie pocket

Mar 17, 2020 05:43 PM #19

@BShark Has to be something along those lines, you don't see teams that are 23-8 with a good shot at making the NCAA tournament leave in groves like that otherwise. He has a fairly small buyout if he chooses to leave but they'd still owe him millions if he's fired. He really has that place by the balls, he was in the top ten of highest paid coaches in CBB a few years back and I haven't checked it again. But for a guy that lucked out on a walk-on and a couple of underrated recruits he's average. He had a good 5 years in a joke of a conference.

Another one!

Wichita down to 4 guys who played a game last year + 1 red-shirt

Mar 27, 2020 08:13 PM #23

There is a big time Cancer there and that Cancer is obviously Marshal. If the Admin & Athletic director isn't smart enough to figure that out then DAM Sucks to be them - - Marshal has to go , there is NO RESPECT for him on that roster, well what use to be that Roster - -There is an untold story going on there for sure. - It will come out sooner or Later.

They just got 4 players over the weekend, Alterique Gilbert Grad Transfer from UCONN and 3 High School Prospects. They now have 9 guys with 4 open scholarships

Mar 31, 2020 02:21 PM #27

Basically all signess unranked but that is to be expected when you gotta get in a bunch of guys late in the game.

Oct 09, 2020 01:41 AM #28

Gregg Marshall is now under investigation by Wichita State due to allegations of misconduct towards his players. WSU has had six players either transfer out or decommit since the spring. Sounds like a decent chance he could be done in Wichita. Should've taken UCLA, Texas, Alabama, or NC State when he had the chance because I doubt anyone good is going to come calling now if WSU fires Marshall.

I've been trying to tell you guys for a long time how bad he was! Don't forget about his wife. What a pair!

Oct 09, 2020 08:49 AM #37

I have to ask, how did it take this long to look into why almost the entire team left

Oct 09, 2020 12:42 PM #38

Holy crap that Stadium article. I knew he was nuts but damn.

A family friend that is a KSU/WSU dork hates Bill Self and thinks Marshall is some paragon of virtue. I'm gonna have some fun with this. :upside-down_face:

Oct 09, 2020 01:15 PM #39

I used to really pull for WSU as long as they weren't playing us. Until they hired Dr Douche. I cannot STAND this guy - haven't liked him from day one. I used to really laugh hard when people talked about him taking a job at a high level school. He's an ass, but he's smart enough to know at WSU he's a big fish in a little pond and has a chance to win a few games.

Until now.

Oct 09, 2020 01:24 PM #40

read where he told Sqaq Morris to get the F - - - out of his practice after Morris went up and tried to block a team mates shot. - -Marshall said it was a cheap shot cause he knocked the player down following Morris and hitting him just below the neck in between his shoulders.

Got upset with and assistant and was getting into him berating him and had his hands around his neck. - -Players said he had quite the reputation for doing such things

The road rage accident was I guess a lot of athletes would park in his spot while going to the tuitoring office, Marshall would double park and block them in , one athlete pulled out before he was able to do that and he chased him and blocked him at an innersection - -Marshall got out and hollering at the athlete saying do you know who the F- - - I am the athlete responded I don't care who the F - - - you are and Marshall swung at him through the window

Multiple people saying there have many other incidents like this

Oct 09, 2020 04:33 PM #41

I'm a Jayhawk, and KU alumni. Obviously, KU is at the top of my list. But I do support all sports teams in Kansas. The stadium story is hard to read because it sucks to think that this behavior is still happening in college basketball.

I will put my own Jayhawk cred on the line here... by saying I totally believe Goodman. I had a period of time where I got to know him personally, and we discussed everything college basketball. He is a totally legit guy who I hold in high esteem. He also doesn't favor one Kansas school over another with his work. This story is legit. Whether or not the players are being truthful... I believe these players. I've watched plenty of WSU basketball and I've seen Marshall's behavior during games often go off the scale of what is appropriate. I've seen and heard him verbally assault players during a game that goes way beyond allowable decorum in college basketball.... or for that matter... any basketball anywhere.

We've all heard stuff like this about Marshall before. I've cut him all the slack I can because I don't like to judge people without feeling comfortable that I'm doing the right thing. This changes all of that. I don't want him in the State of Kansas any longer!

I know plenty of WSU alumni / contributors, former players, and former personnel from past Athletic Departments. I plan to totally dump on Marshall. This is not acceptable. Period.

I am totally disgusted.

Oct 09, 2020 08:47 PM #42

He [Marshall] should be gone. I always knew he was a classless jerk, but I didn't know he was this much of a classless jerk. I don't like WSU at all, but I feel mildly bad for their fans/players.

Oct 09, 2020 08:49 PM #43

He's like Bob Knight on Dexamethasone steroids, but with a fraction of the coaching talent.

Oct 12, 2020 04:39 PM #44

When the allegations first came out, I wasn't sure. But I think the thing that is most telling is that several of his most prominent former players - guys like Fred Van Vleet, Ron Baker, Landry Shamet - haven't said a word in his defense that I can find. That's pretty damning, because if they don't even have an interest in publicly defending him, he's probably sunk. If one of them were to come to his defense, he might be able to save himself. If not, he's in too deep.

Schools are going to have to do a better job of keeping an eye on abuse of student athletes. This doesn't rise to the level of what happened at Michigan State, obviously, but it's a pattern that cannot continue. We saw it at KU with Mangino (the real reason he had to go). Schools are putting themselves on the chopping block if they don't get these types of things handled. Marshall may be out permanently.

Oct 13, 2020 02:38 AM #45

I heard that the guy was also trying to ban all of his players from observing national holidays, that is ofcourse unless they brought him booze - Johnny Walker Black Label, to be specific. The guy obviously had to go. It would only be a matter of time before he started picking up chairs.

Oct 21, 2020 01:02 AM #46

Oct 22, 2020 06:01 AM #47

Meanwhile.... I started some conversations in the "Land of Shocked Wheat" and haven't been surprised. The diehard fans still defend him and have become nasty in doing so. But I went deeper into administration and people are keeping cards close to their chest but the basic energy felt is one of him being guilty and change is on the way. I'm not necessarily thinking he gets fired. Hope to chat with some past players soon. I won't share names.

So if he is found guilty and terminated... I put this question out to all of you...

Is WSU better off today than the day they hired him? He did bring them success and a move to a better conference.

Nov 11, 2020 03:32 AM #48

Nov 11, 2020 09:12 PM #58

Just for the sake of conversation, would Danny taking the WSU job make folks fans? I say yes. I kind of liked them as the plucky underdog when Turg was there, then really hated Gregggggggggggg "chicken hawks" Marshall. The American seems like more Danny's speed than the ACC and I think he could be successful with assistants who were good recruiters.

Nov 11, 2020 10:24 PM #59

WSU is not going to be an easy job for whoever takes it. Overly high expectations from fans, Koch interference holding the purse strings, and no real way to recruit the type of players needed to consistently compete with Memphis, Houston, etc.

ya I agree I would pull for them IF Danny ended there - -a little anyways - -Danny still a JayHawk forever - I mean after all he was the big part of Danny and the Miracles.

would be hard but I think you would find KU people maybe not pulling for WSU BUT pulling for Danny . -- ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Marsha has officially resigned. Yay

Will get almost 8 million in settlement $ over the next 6 years.

Nov 17, 2020 05:34 PM #63

@BeddieKU23 I hope Ron and Fred come out now and back shaq. I think Connor took some of his abuse too. 3 G made a lot of money. I think the AD knew about these incidents too. Nobody wins.

Nov 17, 2020 05:43 PM #64

@Crimsonorblue22 This is from an email put out by the Wichita Eagle:

Marshall received support from former WSU basketball players since the allegations were made public, but none of those public supporters were with the Shockers during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons when the coach allegedly engaged in the physical abuse that triggered the investigation.

Fred VanVleet, Ron Baker and Landry Shamet — three of Marshall’s most famous alums who all reached the NBA — have not publicly weighed in on their view of Marshall in light of the allegations.

The closest any of them have come was when Baker was asked about the topic on the 4 SZNS NBA Podcast released on Nov. 10.

“Think about 14 years ago and think now what Coach Marshall has done there, so (the boosters) coming out and saying they support (Marshall), I totally get it,” Baker said. “But my only defense right now is they weren’t in the gym when those things were happening. So they’ve got to understand where I come from when I walk the fence line. There will definitely be a time where I think I’ll get into more depth.”

It will be interesting if Ron says more publicly for sure.
