When Remy makes it back... • Feb 16, 2022 06:27 PM

@BShark That is scary. Means that Juan will have to continue to play for 38 minutes plus. Don't think HCBS trusts Joe to run the offense for other than a couple of minutes. Have to hope Juan doesn't get into foul trouble in any game, or worse, injured. He is definitely going to be worn down if neither Remy or Bobby are available.

Update: Sounds like when JCL is available again, they might officially shut Bobby down. But either way he is emergency only.

@BShark exactly which injury will require surgery?

Groin issue that got worse, idk all the details just that he will need surgery.

We are just an imperfect team.

When you are an imperfect team you have to figure out which strategy you want to adopt. You can either press the pedal down and try for the highest seed in the tournament you possibly can to give you the best path. Or you can take your foot off the gas, let your guys heal/rest, and then accept that the tournament is chaos. But chaos that you can go into with a healthy team vs. lingering issues.

Bill always chooses the former over the latter.

Yep.

They need to just shut Bobby down btw. Expect him to have surgery after the season but they should get it out of the way now and accept only having 2 small guards available.

@Woodrow

I think several of our starters could use a slight cut in minutes. Och definitely is looking frayed...

We need every advantage going into March because our margin for victory is quite small.

Yeah Och in particular. It's a damned if you do damned if you don't. Bill tried against Okie Lite and we struggled.

When Remy makes it back... • Feb 16, 2022 01:33 PM

@Woodrow Agree about Juan's minutes and I think Self would rather avoid that too. Remy won't play again for KU though.

This is never going to be a “Self hates Zach” narrative. Bill’s pants fit weird when he thinks about Bobby and Zach anchoring this squad for the next few years.

Yeah the word has always been super positive about Zach. Practices the right way etc...

I think we might have seen this sooner if not for the toe injury.

2022 Recruiting Thread • Feb 16, 2022 12:12 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 He has been hurt this whole time.

2022 Recruiting Thread • Feb 16, 2022 03:13 AM

@BeddieKU23 Makes sense to me. Only thing I can see wanting is a guard, or a wing depending on how some things break.

Oklahoma State Game Thread • Feb 15, 2022 11:55 PM

Self said he didn't think Zach would be able to play in the OU game. Was still a bit sore. Tough :flexed_biceps:

Kenpom rating vs NCAA tourney success • Feb 15, 2022 09:53 PM

This re-opened the 09-10 wound. Gaaaaaah that team should have been at least FF.

@Kcmatt7 said in When Remy makes it back...:

Remy isn't going to play another second for KU, imo.

From here on it is all a PR campaign. Bill doesn't want to play him (for a lot of reasons), but doesn't want to get burned recruiting. Remy needs Bill to say that Remy was a great kid/teamate/player that just had some bad luck.

I could be wrong, but that is what I'm seeing right now.

Oklahoma State Game Thread • Feb 15, 2022 03:32 AM

@approxinfinity Cisse has been guilty of some "being large" fouls tonight

Oklahoma State Game Thread • Feb 15, 2022 03:29 AM

@approxinfinity Something to be said for Juan is that he is ALWAYS available. Really remarkable considering his frame/size.

Oklahoma State Game Thread • Feb 15, 2022 03:28 AM

Zach time!

Mitch can come in with the walk-ons if that happens.

Mitch came in right towards the end of the 1st half - -AND promptly got burned for a layup

Bill should be very done with him if Zach keeps showing he can defend well. Zach also makes the other team respect his shooting all the way to the three point line.

@BShark id argue it’s a must at this point. teams are daring him to shoot.

He has shown some tricks in his bag tonight. A couple really slick moves to create open floaters.

Oklahoma State Game Thread • Feb 15, 2022 03:06 AM

Why are we getting a media timeout when OSU's timeout at 15:37 should have qualified?

This team doesn't get enough love for having so many local guys starting. You'd think this would be a lot of people's favorite team ever

This is what some people claimed they wanted in the past, even.

I'd love to see more local talent, but I just want us to win no matter where they're from. The 1988 NC team only had Chris Piper and Danny Manning (who played his HS ball in North Carolina) as contributors. The 2008 champs were a little better...Brandon Rush, Brady Morningstar, Tyrel Reed and a few guys who mostly sat on the bench. When you recruit nationally you're bound to lose a few local guys.

Exactly. You can't have an elite program only recruiting the KC/MO area. For every diamond in the rough like Och, CB, Ron Baker etc you have a bunch of guys in that ranking range that don't do much in college.
