this could also be KU being extremely tight about anything right now because of the FBI.

I would say this has to be some of it. Extra caution.

Fwiw Billy's mom is fairly well off. Which I guess shouldn't really be a surprise given how he moved across the country to different high schools.

For anyone wondering, we paid Grimes according to UT fans. They didn't pay Bamba tho.

@jayballer54 :joy:

Grimes went off for 32 points the day before he announced for KU.

He had 31 pts 13 reb and 5 ast in their first game.

I like how genuinely happy he looked during his announcement. Great job by the staff this year identifying targets and I still think KU could have pulled Ayo and Carey if the need had been there.

Self compared him favourably to Deron Williams in the release. Easy to forget how good DWill was if you don't follow the NBA but daaaaamn.

Also some quotes from Jerry

Of Grimes, Meyer said the guard is “very strong with the basketball, “gets where he needs to be” with “very good court vision” and has the capacity to be a three-level scorer — “I think he’s an extremely complete player,” he said.

Meyer has a feeling Grimes is “underrated” and is interested to see where he ends up in his outlet’s final rankings.

“You can make a strong argument that he’s the top guard in the class,” Meyer said. “Now, I say that, but there’s not much separation amongst about 12 guards in this class.”

This year’s crop of guards is “really, really good at the top,” Meyer said, but Grimes has separated himself with his best-in-class physicality. Meyer is also confident Grimes can play three positions — shooting guard, small forward and, yes, point guard.

“Grimes to me is as true a point guard as any point guard,” Meyer said. “Don’t penalize him because he’s big and strong and he’s 6-4 and he also can score. Those are the guys I want. I want a true combo guard. That fits the modern game of basketball.”

Dotson had 37 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in Tuesday’s 87-73 win over previously unbeaten Legacy Charter. For the season, Dotson is averaging 31.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and four assists.

That class is funny. Mason was rated much lower than Frankamp and Greene. Only 247 really thought Frank was good.

Some quotes from Bedore

I spoke with Quentin Grimes and his parents who are very nice: "The whole staff came down here a couple times. Coach Self and coach Howard (Jerrance) wanted to make sure I knew I was top priority at guard."

Grimes added: "Coach Self let me know how much responsibility I’d have as a freshman, go in there and try to lead the team to another Big 12 championship and hopefully another national championship.”

6'5" guard who can rebound and score and dish? Sounds like a bright future. Self aint leaving anytime soon with this class coming in. 2019-20 national champs. Book it!

Might be the best guard we've had under Self. I count Josh as a wing.

NLI is in

@JayHawkFanToo Yeah, I'll be pleased to not have to use a VPN to watch online. Quality will be better on my tv anyway.

And I mean UK will have a great back court next year but their writers can bite me.

@jayballer54 Don't forget Bol Bol likely to pop for Oregon. But I'm sure Cal didn't want him right? lol

Like clockwork, UK's 247 writer getting defensive over Grimes picking KU. Of course it was only because they landed KJ and Herro. It's not like Grimes cut them first. Nope. Definitely not that.

"I see myself fitting in great playing with multiple guards out there and me being the lead guard that they want me to be and do my thing," he said. "I'll have a lot of offensive freedom, playing the one on the ball and off the ball, posting up and really just have a blast out there playing for Kansas."

Grimes joins a loaded recruiting class that also includes five-star point guard Devon Dotson and top 50 prospects Silvio De Sousa and David McCormack.

"I feel like everyone will complement each other well on the court," Grimes said. "Devon will complement me terrifically on the ball. He’s a good point guard and can get to the basket and he can definitely find me because he’s a good point guard and I’m more of a scoring guard to play on and off the ball. David is a beast on the boards. Silvio is a freak athletically so I think we will definitely be the number one recruiting class for sure."

Snacks gonna need a raise fam.

Grimes also cited his relationships, not only with Self, but also Kansas assistant Jerrance Howard, who was his lead recruiter.

"He’s real with you no matter what, tells you the truth, great guy to play for just seeing him at practice like how he gets on his best players," Grimes said about Self. "He doesn’t let anything slide by him and like I said just playing for a Hall of Fame coach knowing he coached players like me that are big guards like Deron Williams in the past and guards like Mario Chalmers and seeing how he let them have their freedom is what I really like about him."

"Coach Howard, I really liked how coach Howard let me have my space and wasn’t overbearing me with phone calls except over the last couple of weeks because they got kind of nervous," Grimes said. "But me and Coach Howard have a good relationship, he’s really easy to relate to and he gave me a lot of space but the last couple of weeks they started calling me almost everyday but it was good though."

Grimes apparently called KU and Texas coaches this last week to help make his decision.

RockkChalkk said:

I think he signed as well, showed him signing something on the table.

Yep. That was the plan. NLI should be in soon.

"The coaches were very consistent in recruiting me," said Grimes. "Coach Self and Coach Howard would come down here every week they could to see me, and they made it clear that they wanted me to go there," added Grimes.

PUTTING IN THE WORK.

I love Devon. You know in a completely normal way.

But man, those UK donks were just sure it was super close with UK. Turn's out @jayballer54 gut feeling knew more than those clowns.

@BeddieKU23 Snacks too.

Thread renamed.

They had the rock chalk chant down. GOD BLESS MOMMA GRIMES.

Didn't think this could be worse than the Dotson stream but heeeere we are.

RockkChalkk said:

low battery on the stream???? lmao its going to cut out.

Someone needs to tell the coach to STFU so we can actually see Grimes announce.

Right now the coach is STILL RAMBLING.

@jayballer54 I'm not seeing anything yet but a table anyone else?

@RockkChalkk This coach will just NOT SHUT UP.

Alexander, Diallo...Preston? • Nov 15, 2017 11:54 PM

Wasn't a big deal from the sound of it, very minor damage.

Alexander, Diallo...Preston? • Nov 15, 2017 11:52 PM

@kubie the details are out. He hit a curb. I don't have a link handy but not hard to search for.

LOL. Slater literally replied to that tweet with #GrimesFallout. I'm dying.

Shaka knows...

GCU is a large Christian university as well. A lot of guys really like the faith element. Also for-profit, but really neither here nor there.

Ah this is good to know. I know Drew plays up that element at Baylor. Then there was the whole Prentiss Hubb thing with ND...

Looks like most of them have moved on and yeah the staff writer on 247 predicts it will be Kansas.

Slightly De-Zengered • Nov 15, 2017 09:59 PM

@jayballer54 Ah well something to keep in mind. If you don't get it, you can go buy a good antenna for less than a hundred bucks. As a one time cost, probably worth it.

Slightly De-Zengered • Nov 15, 2017 09:54 PM

This is a new deal. Looks like they realized people in the area aren't flocking to get Spectrum Sports just for a few lower tier KU hoops games! Do you still have a regular antenna in addition to your pay tv package?

Of note: 247 has changed the interest levels for Grimes on his profile. KU now the only one at "warmer".

Slightly De-Zengered • Nov 15, 2017 09:49 PM

@jayballer54 This is a free channel brother. You should be able to pick it up if you have a good antenna. Might be included in your package I have no idea you'd have to check that yourself. I only have free over the air tv and PSVUE (for ESPN3 basically).

@jayballer54 With all the twists and turns in the Zion recruitment I'll believe it when he arrives on a campus to play ball, lol.

The day Young announced, all of his CB picks switched to Oklahoma hours before he made it public. Someone close to him leaked it and I think that’s happening here. He’s gotta be ours. Hope he can snag Zion 😈.

Umm Zion not so much. - -Clemson now trending pretty good for Zion. - -His dad played there - -In- State School - -looking more and more might land there. - -Damm bet Kentucky is HOT

If it ain't us, I want it to be Clemson.
