Kid has grIT. TOUGH player.
Much better effort from the team today.
I might have been wrong about Garrett's playing time this year. So many intangibles. We will see.
Garrett with the swipe and score.
So this sequence from Garrett is exactly what he is all about.
Drives and hits Svi with a pass. Svi misses. Garrett rebounds it, puts it back in with an and one. Garrett misses the free throw but gets his own rebound.
Kid is a junkyard dog.
About ready for the 2nd game.

I can see Dotson picking Florida if no competition for the PG spot is what he wants. He also has a good relationship with White and the assistants.
Sean Miller has apparently told Dotson that he's switching to a 2 PG offense so that he can compete with what KU has been doing. Miller has become a lot like Calipari in that he's just going to tell kids what they want to hear.
I would imagine most coaches do that. But yeah Cal is notorious for it, no surprise Miller is the same way.

KU out of it for Montez Mathis. Says Uconn, Rutgers, Virginia Tech his final 3
Yeah despite what he was saying I'm not sure he could have committed to KU. His final 3 kinda backs this up too.
Yup seems KU kicked the tires but Mathis wants to go somewhere more to his level. I think the KU interest in Locke had something to do with that.
Could be. I think Locke is better. Can't blame top 100-ish kids that want to go somewhere they won't get buried on the depth chart.

Sounds exactly how KU was recruited against the last few years with Mason/Graham still around in regards to elite PG's. I also think the Dotson's don't have the relationship with Maryland that other schools have even with Wiggins in his ear. Florida is the main danger if the Arizona visit didn't change things completely.
If PT is his only concern, he should pick Florida. It would make the most sense by far since KU has Moore on board already and really wants Grimes.
BeddieKU23 said:
Grimes dropping his top 7 today.
I'm sure it will look like this: KU, Texas, Baylor, Texas A&M, Arizona & Marquette.
Not that it really means anything but I'd love to see UK and Duke not be on it. Arizona is always worrisome though.

From a Western Kentucky fan posting in KU board
Has nothing to do with being homesick at all. Has everything to do with him getting bad advice from "handlers" and people trying to cash in on him. Mainly his Godfather and former WKU assistant Shammond Williams. His mother wants him at WKU and not to listen to those other people. But he has a lot of people in his ear.
He has not gotten along with his teammates at WKU because he hasn't treated many of them with any respect. There is a whole lot more to this saga than what is being reported. The whole team has been better off since he went on "vacation" because he was quickly becoming a cancer in the locker room with his prima donna act.
Obviously some sour grapes but otoh, this might be difficult to take on with the Lawsons already on board.

Some highlight videos of the KU players here.
That's actually a pretty good idea but you are also right that it probably won't happen. Interesting idea though because shooting them normally, I can't see him even breaking 55% over a season.
I'd take him in a second. Probably won't happen tho.

@BShark Another way to think about it, we don't need either of them to play this year (not that KJ could) between Garrett, Lightfoot and Svi. We are pretty solid 1-8 it seems. I'm more than ok with Cunliffe being our 9th guy...
Could definitely do worse. He won't be happy if he is buried on the bench obviously, but it seems like Garrett is ahead of him.
Kcmatt7 said:
@BShark I mean, those guys would start at most programs and they will be coming off the bench here... Not a lot of other teams get to bring two top 75 guys like that off the bench.
Not to mention they are both still a matchup nightmare at the stretch 4.
If they are willing to get dirty down low. Not sure Cunliffe is.
But fair enough of a point.
I know it's just an exhibition but Cunliffe and KJ both looked like what I expected.
Let's see if they can turn it around.
Cunliffe :fearful:

Yeah hack a doke can definitely be a thing.
A definite concern late in the game.
Stastically Lightfoot was even worse, we'll see if that was just a product of sporadic minutes
Catch 22 because he will be needed for defense. Can you foul away from the ball in college ball and not have it be intentional? I'm honestly not 100% sure.
Yeah hack a doke can definitely be a thing.

We might not see the starters again today.

77-32...
Garrett is a floor burner.
Yeah fts are gonna be an issue for Doke.
U-Lay-up
Btw for anyone that bought a flohoops sub make sure you can it after the KU games. Be persistent about it. You might have to call them. They seem anal and their BBB page has 25 negative reviews and NO positive.

It's hard to even imagine a backcourt being better then last year's Frank/Devonte combo but its entirely possible Devonte a yr older and Newman a matured Soph could be just as good
If Newman's head is on right all year WATCH OUT. One of the most talented guards Self has had. Period.

Malik is so good offensively
Malik Newman is REALLY good.
@Crimsonorblue22 True but you never really know how bad until you see it. Betting the normal exhibitions will be more competitive even.

Starters were Graham, Newman, Vick, Preston, Doke.
I predict the same starters throughout the year.
Me too, stacked 2nd unit with Svi, Mitch, Garrett and Sam. Still need another big body its clear
Yeah just for an emergency if anything.
Lol Doke warned for hanging on the rim.

Confirmed, he will play PF.
Teahan living the dream.
Garrett is the opposite of the black hole.
Well just like @BigBad saw it coming with Garrett in a good way, I've always been a bit cautious of a player that thinks he is the next Lebron. Now, if he gets to the point where he is the best player on the court, well he already has the attitude (that you can't teach) to be the alpha dog shot taker. But for now, it could be a detriment and something that will give Self a headache. I believe when Trae Young was still an option I said something to the extent of Self already has Newman and Preston to deal with and the Young is talented to you take him but that'd be three black holes* on the team.
@KUSTEVE My guess on the "stealth" call out is Preston.
Self bringing the heat here.
@wrwlumpy Garrett, Moore, Newman, KJ?? and Preston.
The staff has made it clear they want two guards in this class. Now, do they get two top guards? That remains to be seen but recent history would say no.

Per Matt Scott: His mom went to KU and brother just graduated from KU. Kid blew up this weekend.
Someone literally used the word CONFIRM about Lightfoot's nose soooo it could be that they waited awhile to announce the suspension.
Still don't know how, but not complaining. Preston had about the same amount of time at API/PRIME PREP etc... as other kids that ended up having to go overseas. Guess they shoulda went to Oak Hill for a year...
