Yeah I trust your word regarding their coach. He's played top competition and waited his turn to become the guy & flourished with that role so that's promising. Going into this past year I didn't really think he was a guy you could rely on in year 1 but I think after the year he had its much more of a possibility.
yeah pretty much. I think he carves out a large role. I thought his individual defense at Sunrise this year was much improved from a bunch of games I watched of his. Again it remains to be seen if he can defend to Bill's high standards out the gate but his size certainly gives him a shot to do so. He's here & has 5 months to get up to speed. I can see your projection as well if he struggles a bit to be perfect. I just have this feeling him and Rice are ready to produce.
9ppg, 3.5 boards. 42% from 3, 27 minutes per game
Top 5 Forward Xavier Booker says KU will get one of his official visits.
Scotty Middelton has KU in his Top 5.
Not sure we are getting traction with Kaden Cooper who got a huge bump to #49 in the class.
Cooper has locked in an official visit to Gonzaga for June 24th and said that he’s looking to set up dates with LSU and home state Oklahoma soon
Keion Brooks to Washington. Head scratcher. How the mighty have fallen

Mosley to Missouri. Talk about falling off hard for him.
Wow no words
Very interested to see how Self uses sets with Zach out there especially if he plays 25 + minutes a night. I think there will be growing pains but its exciting as well given KU hasn't had a shooter at the 5 in several years so there's very little film for teams to use against them early.
Big fan of Zach. Been driving that fan club wagon since before he signed here. Love the nasty he showed competing in the post. He's got that 'want to in him'. He didn't shoot the ball nearly as well as he can from deep or from the line. He's a bucket though & he'll score. Defensively I thought he was fine besides needing to get stronger to handle the grind down there. I'm sure that's being addressed. I think he's been underrated on that side since his HS days.
That made my day
Definitely the wing. I personally think Dick will be the choice to start.
Oh for sure the adjustment was hard. At times Bill is still acquired taste but there's not another human being I want on that sideline. In fact, the thought of him not being here is pretty much the scariest thing I can imagine (in a KU fan vacuum).
I agree Pettiford is a point guard but if Self wants to use 2 littles he's certainly got options. Bobby with a year in vs freshman (I think we know by now experience seems to beat out inexperienced players, especially early). Once Self latches onto a guard he tends to trust them as well & I think Bobby positioned himself favorably there.
Will be interesting to see what Juan does with even more responsibility this season. I'm hopeful and optimistic he's got more to give
I feel bad for those that haven't at this point. We literally found the guy
I was a lot younger and immature when we got Self. When you grow up thinking Roy Williams is the greatest thing since sliced bread.. Well let's just say I was not impressed. Obviously that feeling had nothing to do with Self and everything to do with how Roy left us..

I thought I would stay up for the whole NC game and not go to bed at halftime like a whiny baby.
Ouch that really happened??
Sometimes circumstances and timing don't work. We didn't get the best version of Grimes at KU which is unfortunate for how he's remembered by KU fans.
I actually like to compare the Grimes and Malik Newman situations. Both heralded HS players that were expected to have short stays in College. Circumstances led them to different paths after their freshman years but their careers ended on high notes for different teams. I can only imagine how Miss St fans remember Malik, all the hype that followed him & being a Miss kid that went to a non-power in-state basketball school. I bet its similar to how most KU fans remember Grimes lone season here. Sometimes the expectations these high ranked kids come in with are unattainable to meet especially in their first year.
I agree its difficult to jump up in competition and be as good especially at KU. It does happen every year across the nation but I think its difficult to predict which players will blossom. Mosley made a lot of sense due to his connections to the program & his offensive skill level. I could argue Self has taken two transfers in recent past (Moss/Coleman-Lands) that were similar to Mosley athletically/defensively. I do think Self prefers to get transfers from major conferences though so I do think that is a big factor in his decision making process with transfers. Take a look at the recent transfers & Yesufu/Cam Martin are the only 2 guys that have transferred in from lower levels.
2021-22- Coleman Lands- (Illinois/Depaul/Iowa St), Remy Martin (Arizona St). Yesufu (Drake) & Martin (D2) .
2019-20- Moss (Iowa)
2018-19- Dedric, KJ Lawson (Memphis), Charlie Moore (Cal)
2017-18- Cunliffe (Arizona St), Newman (Mississippi St).
2016-17- Dwight Coleby (Ole Miss).
Yes he did. This was just a roundup of stuff that's happened in the past couple weeks. The list of transactions from the Big-12 overall this offseason would have been a novel
The way Self talked about Bobby last season before it was derailed with injury makes me think he's certainly in line for a shot at starting. I also think Gradey is the ideal option long-term but we need to see how he handles what's thrown at him by Self first.
I also don't think we have a clear indication of what kind of offensive player Pettiford is yet. I'm confident we'll see a different player as long as his health allows it
I'll go..
Harris, Pettiford, McCullar, Wilson, Clemence to start the season.
This is where I think Self maybe leaning.
Personally I'd throw Gradey in the starting lineup for size, playmaking, perimeter shooting.
I think one of the duo of Dick/Rice can make their way in the starting lineup. I think Bill will be hard on those two to develop quickly.
Udeh, Adams, Yesufu to round out the rotation.
Couple thoughts:
Crazy that 2 All American freshman could come off the bench.
Crazy that a Top 50 player (Zuby) could be buried on the depth chart.
Grimes probably grew up a bit as well when he left KU and was back "home". I'm sure his aspirations going to KU was to be a OAD and high draft pick. Then Self got Dotson & Devon took his spot, speculation or not that's how I see it. The role Grimes may have wanted (dominating the ball) at KU is the role he got at Houston & he was able to develop along with that. As @Texas-Hawk-10 pointed out the drop to AAC was likely just as beneficial to him showcasing.
That's another. Forgot about him.
I'll add Grimes to the list. He obviously got better at Houston but I was certain that was going to be in a KU jersey.
I think Mosley will end up at Texas Tech. Think you'll see him visit there in the next couple weeks and commit...
Big Dave for sure.
Before that Diallo.
@drgnslayr said in Reasons to believe in next year’s team:
I'm not 100% sure we are done. Might Self carve a space for Mosley?
I think Mosley wanted to be here but there's parts of his game that don't particularly fit with Self. He's not a great athlete or defender but his offensive game certainly looked very appealing. Personally I thought he was worth bringing in (Harris/CB connection + the instant offense) because of how much offense this team has lost. Ochai, Dave, CB, Remy. We have 1 guy returning who can replace 1 of those guys but not 4. There will be a drop off in offensive firepower from last season to this upcoming one. How much will be one of the key's to the season
Perhaps this team will grow on me as the summer goes along. I was expecting a few more chess moves from Self to bridge the gap on guys he's lost. There's no way around the fact this team was gutted after a Championship which usually happens.
Comparing it to past teams I'm a bit concerned about experience & where the scoring will come from. 9 of 13 guys have little to zero experience playing in games. Among those 9, as many as 6 could be regular parts of the rotation so lots of growing pains. The 3 returning Soph's all have promise and we could even see 1 or 2 of them start. The freshman class is stellar, we got real dudes this year so talent is not a question.
It's going to be interesting to hear who's developing. Development is beyond vital this offseason. Will a freshman push to start in the backcourt or will Self lean on experience or another ballhandler next to Harris. That 2 spot will be a battle. Will Wilson shine being the man? I think he will. He's waited his turn and watched his brothers take the leaps. This is his time and he'll get every opportunity to showcase. In spite of my concerns the ceiling on this team seems high. Odds are at least one of the freshman & one of the Sophomore's will have a breakout season. I think the keys to a successful season lie on what the young guys can give on a consistent basis. Interesting offseason. Glad its over

Yeah I don't understand the Cam situation at all, never will. He's not going to play minutes anyway
Not having a final roster and its almost June has to be exhausting. I can't see this being a sustainable thing every year.
Elijah Fisher. 5 star SF in the 23 class commits to Texas Tech and will reclassify and play this season. Tape is scary
Self hinted the banner could be staying permanently

Wasn't a slight to Self. Actually it was a slight to Tech's coaches for being what they are.
Wasn’t thinking it was a slight. Just thought it was maybe an interesting perspective on how people perceive Self.
He's certainly among the best defensive minded coaches in the game. I also think he's equally as good on the other end which I why I didn't want to label him one or the other while I think Beard/Adams are clearly better coaching one side then the other. Self is the total package even if I'm slightly biased
Wasn't a slight to Self. Actually it was a slight to Tech's coaches for being what they are.
Agree McCullar from what we've seen of him in the last 3 years isn't an ideal 3 in Self's lineup. Again I don't know how much of his offensive game was held back by two defensive minded coaches he played under (Beard, Adams) but it crosses my mind they didn't develop him this past year as much as you would have thought. I recall seeing he was injured some last year as well? Anyways I think he comes here and has a big role but I do agree I don't want him being the focal point of the offense or playing the 3 primarily. That's unless he has a leap in him we cannot project right now.
If Jalen does leave I have no idea who the offense will focus around. He'd easily be a preseason POY pick & 1st team Big-12 guy. Harris will be the highest scoring returning player & we know the offense isn't flowing through him for 10-15 shots a game. If Jalen does leave then I think Self needs to get a lot more real about roster moves. Your 12th and 13th guys aren't helping you win this upcoming year but you can go get guys in the portal that can.
Official CB staying in the draft

If Jalen had a change of heart at the combine I wouldn't hate KU getting involved.
Funny he said going back to school was unlikely, didn't even want to talk schools involved and days later 360!
KU wasn't listed among those interested
I hope there's a few more moves left but at this point I don't know what's going to make a meaningful impact.
I just don't understand the Cam Martin situation from redshirting to still being here.
I'm also surprised Cuffe is sticking around. Personally I'm high on him but I expected him to look around.
If Braun does leave that really hurts the upcoming squad. Leader, scoring option, proven winner among many other things. Makes J Will returning of paramount importance.
McCullar is a nice get for what he provides. Perhaps he flourishes here and steps his game up offensively.
Young team with a lot of unproven pieces that will have to play.
Want Wilson back more then any transfer. Way more important
Good for J will. Still not getting drafted. One performance changes little
