me too but its getting old with him thinking he's 5 inches taller than he is to finish in the lane hes got easy baskets for his guys
that was a nice basket by hunter though, he knew to use the basket as a shield
except he passed it to the black hole
Mason instead of the easy pass to ellis for a dunk gets blocked yet again and then we lose the ball. man your a PG do your duty
thats a shooting foul are you serious
Greene is so lost on defense he gave up 2 open 3's you take him out
and then dont even come close on that FT
now thats the selden we need
come on wayne
offense flows much better without him in there, he doesnt dribble with purpose so the defense knows hes just spotting up
mason is as cold as winter but i will take the lobs its their every play
playing fine just have to make shots. defense has been stellar besides guarding chery make him go left he cant score going left
that 3 is on traylor you kidding me
well the lead was nice while we had it, we have to penetrate the zone
oh my lucas that is horrid d
you know chery is going right why cant you stop it
well that was a crap play bailout
so we got more turnovers than points yet??
wow baylor missed a gimmie
graham again
you can tell they fired the refs from yesterday lol
wow graham you cannot do that
what a rebound for mari
gone cold
i was like oh what are you doing mason to yeahhh selden moment
great D so far
lucas wow
Chery sucked yesterday but he always shows up against us. hope his shot is off again
will ellis struggle early as he gets the rust off? a good start from him would be infectious
we are gonna have to hit shots outside of 3 feet today. Although Baylor does play out on shooters. They also in the last game stopped the ball from getting into the middle which we exploited the first match-up. So it will be interesting to see what happens with our bad ball offense.
We need a good start, we need shots to fall, and we need to play like the season depends on it. It's going to take basically the best game we've played all year to pull this one out. You know Baylor doesn't want to go 0-3 against KU.
Funny how nobody has really tried to take you off the edge. I think part of it is that we all understand that this version of a basketball team is just not that good. Not that good to the standard we are accustomed to, and not that good to watch right now.
We are playing down to the competition, and have completely abandoned any offense that involves shooting a jumpshot. We might as well re-name bad ball "ugly I can't watch ball". Oubre flat out saved our butts yesterday. You would think with Ellis out, Mason would assume a scoring role, nope he was trying to go 5 on 1 again. 7 point lead at halftime, you knew that was "fools gold" lost it in 45 seconds. For the life of me if we had another Shooting Guard option you relegate Selden to the bench. Those turnovers were like watching a High School game. If I'm Self I'm recruiting over him with Newman you just can't rely on his extreme Jekyll and Hyde routine. Greene, well what can you say its hard to imagine he was shooting 50% from 3 the way the last few weeks have gone 1-17 last 7 games.
The good is that hopefully Ellis plays today and restores some order to this ugly ball we've been playing. Lucas has really played the best ball of his career since given the minutes. Oubre might have taken the snub for Big 12 Freshman of the Year as he attacked fearlessly in that hackfest of a game. When was the last time someone shot 19 FT attempts for KU.
What can we do about it? We can just pray that somehow we find a way to make shots and play good enough Defense to steal wins..
Hopefully it's joy don't expect the Hawks to win it easy tho we have seen all year how fast leads disappear
It's clear he can't make a 3 anymore and his bonehead drives to the hoop other than that 1 basket just killed momentum
We don't put games away my friend. We make our fans pull their hair out
If your smart you don't play selden he just looks hurt and he's playing like he wants to wear a purple jersey
And that goes to tell you the maturity that BG still has to go through as a player, especially on Defense. If you can't follow a simple Scouting Report telling you this guy can't make a shot outside the FT line why would you guard him like he can. Honestly if Self was a more open defensive minded coach you go zone because they can't hit shots outside with any regularity. Rebounding is still a factor when you zone but if you neutralize their attack game you can live with rebounds
Baylor/WVU foul happy fest so far. 23 fouls and counting in the first half...
I would think BG would cover Williams when in the game or Parrish. Whoever is covering Zeigler is waisting his time outside. Drag off and seal if he attempts to drive, we have to clog the lane as much as possible today without Ellis. Rebounding also becomes a huge problem today as our next best rebounder is Oubre..
The thing with Ziegler is scouting report says he couldn't make a 3 if the basket was 10 feet wide. Seriously yet he scored 12 and 20 against KU this year. He's gotten double figures in 7 of 8 games. I don't see any reason to get within 3 feet of him if he gets the ball on the perimeter. He makes a shot out there, live with it but he makes his killing driving and making layups. It will drive me absolutely bonkers if he gets easy shots inside today, there's no excuse for it.
I'd like to be confident in our chances but trying to beat a team without your best offensive player and for the third time is a tall task for any team. Hopefully the collection of players can make up for a huge huge hole we will have today without Perry
Wisconsin is losing way too much especially if Dekker jumps. If he stays they probably will stay a top 25 team. They certainly won't be as talented as the last few years have been. The value of Kaminsky, Jackson, Gasser, Dukan can't be replaced. They only play 2 other guys who will be back next year in Showalter & Brown but they get less than 8 minutes a game.
On LSU
I'm thinking one of the Mickey/Martin combo goes pro because of Simmons. Somebody is losing minutes to him and I'm not sure either of them will want that. I could be wrong, they could both want to play with him and Blakeney & possibly Newman. They would seriously challenge Kentucky with those guys.
No he didn't score and he looked like he was on his way out in the game. Weber sat him in the 2nd half again. I don't see any way that he stays willingly, I'm thinking he's got his bags packed already.
We need Perry to play today. Our previous matchups with TCU didn't go that well while we won they were both ugly games. There's just no confidence in playing without him especially when TCU's strength is inside and rebounding.
We should pack the inside after watching them play last night against K-St. Anderson is their only outside threat, Ziegler wouldn't take a 3 point shot if the game depended on it. We have to pack the inside and make them shoot jumpers. Will we do that? probably not..
Look for a good game from Devonte, he played well at TCU and had his career day at home against them.
Those 3 players from UK is big thing to lose. Your basically talking about their 3 best players. They will have a deep backcourt if the Twins return, Briscoe is good enough to start, Matthews will be good in time and Ullis should be back. Front court you can expect they will have Lee, Poythress, Labissiere. I think either of Johnson or Lyles returns which would be a huge benefit to them and to anyone recruiting players UK is. Regardless when you lose 3 and maybe more pro's maybe all lotto picks your not going to be as good.
UVA- they will still be a great team. Everyone comes back if Anderson doesn't test the waters now that he was hurt. Honestly if he does return they should be #1 to start the season.
ISU- Niang will be back and they could have 4 senior starters with Niang, Mckay, Long, Nader. Morris is only going to be a Jr. They have 2 transfers and maybe more after this season ends.
UNC- Kind of like KU, they could have nobody leave or maybe 1 player but for the most part a huge part of their nucleus figures to be back.
Duke- Actually think this could be one of their down years. Think about it they already play with just 8 players. Okafor, Winslow = pro's & Cook is a Sr. Tyus Jones has the hardest decision because he's a pro but he could run the team as a Sophomore. If he leaves Duke they don't have a single point guard on the team. They are trying to reclassify Derrick Thornton if Jones goes pro that's how bad it could go for them. You can't replace any of the 3 or potentially 4 players. They have Kennard & Jeter plus transfer big man Obi but the barrel is thin otherwise. Just Matt Jones & Grayson Allen are back with Jefferson & the worst Plumlee of the 3.
Gonzaga- They do lose a bunch. Pangos & Bell have held down the backcourt for years. Wesley is gone, Sabonis is getting some looks in the first round. They could have only 3-4 rotation players back if that happens.
Syracuse- Can play in the tourney next year for all I've read. Bring in 4 top 100 guys and could have 4 starters back. Should have depth to play with for one year.
Nova- Will still be good and adding Brunson is huge for them. Will have to replace scoring of Pinkston & Hilliard but they have guys who can step up.
WSU- Baker & VanVleet aren't first round guys. They will finish their career and win many more games. Frankamp joins the frey to give them 3 shooters.
Zona- Likely to lose a lot to the draft. I think maybe 1 or 2 will stay behind. They bring in a great recruiting class Trier will score the ball in bunches. McConell will be very hard to replace. Zeus should be back for a Sr year.
A&M- Dynamic recruiting class with a bunch of players back puts them right up there for battling if the team has good chemistry.
Louisville- A lot depends on if Rozier goes pro. If he does I don't see how they are even a Top 25 team. Harrell will go, Jones is gone, Blackshear is gone.. Rozier would cripple them.
I personally think that we are at least 1 or 2 recruits away from saying we will be a #1 seed next year. Heck we don't even know how this season is going to finish but if I had to say right now if I though KU would be a #1 seed in the tourney next year I'd say no.
In my opinion we are a Malik Newman or a Jaylen Brown, or if you think we still need another big we are a Stephen Zimmerman or Diallo away from being possibly a great team.
We should be better, we will have Seniors, up to 9 guys who have multiple years in the system. The summer games should give some guys an edge in development and in the fall practices should go smoother because there won't (hopefully) be a roster full of kids who haven't played in the system.
Don't get me wrong I think we will be a top team like every year but for this team to truly be one of the best will require some Self recruiting magic. With Oubre all but gone, you have to think getting Jaylen Brown jumps right up the list. I also think a prolific scorer such as Newman could be just as good. Selden could slide over to the 3 and Self could play Mason, Newman, Selden at the same time. If you get Brown, you have another plug in athletic freak who can score and use the same way Wiggins & Oubre did. I don't buy giving Greene the keys to start yet and Svi might be another year away from the impact we all expect.
Any big other than Zimm won't fix our 5 issue. Maybe Lucas will really turn the corner. Diallo will play bigger than his size and id be happy to get him.
It is a good step forward, next I'm wondering when they plan to do something about the 1 and done rule. I know that has a lot of talk still and at some point needs to be addressed.
The only drawback I see with this proposed change is the in-limbo status college coaches will be in again waiting to know whether their player(s) is going pro or not. I know the rule pushing the deadline forward was intended to help coaches know their roster changes earlier.
But for the first time it looks like the NBA will actually give these kids some real advice and help on whether they should have stayed or not.
Your right they should have known. They should have known if they did take a benefit that this would affect everything. I'm troubled by the whole thing to understand exactly why.
Self knows he's not getting back Cliff. He's seen the reports, he's probably got first hand knowledge of who's cooperating and who's not and so he's come out with the statement how they can plan for the tournament differently knowing he's not apart of the plan. JoJo must have really had a timeline they thought he could hit and missed it, and with the early exit made it look even worse.
I'm okay with not having him honestly. At least we can roll with a 3rd year Soph. & and 4th year Junior. Cliff might have a talent edge on both but at this point of the season talent doesn't always win. Hunter & Lucas give effort all the time and that's something Cliff hadn't learned consistently.
What bothers me even more about this whole situation is it took place before the season even began. I don't buy the ignorance in this day and age that the whole Alexander family/ Cliff included didn't know that meeting an agent would raise red flags. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that you can be deemed ineligible for taking a bagel from someone else. So becoming public record for getting a loan from a agent firm or whatever it is they are being investigated for is basically going to end your eligibility for that year. They all know what they got involved with. It's a dumb NCAA rule but a rule until its changed.
I have went back and forth with that scenario. Should we sit him Thursday and possible until next Thursday/Friday. What if he's not ready tomm, but Friday he's able to play assuming we win. I think he should play if he's able to. Our post season success solely relies on his ability to play.
We won't win the Big 12 tourney without him so if we are okay of losing this tourney to rest him for the next then rest him. Right now before we learn how he will do at practice today we are in a similar position as last year with our most important post player in limbo
We might not make the Friday game if Ellis doesn't play.. He's now questionable after practicing on limited basis Tuesday. Today we will know more if he can go a full practice. Even if he tenderly plays what impact are we expecting if we don't get our normal Perry back. I'm not sure how these sprained MCL's go and the good part was their was no structural damage done which will speed the recovery.
Coach says it shouldn't mentally impact him but we know Perry is fragile dude, he takes missing shots hard and his end of season confidence and high level play has now been taken by an injury. I cautiously hope he's able to play back to that but what's the odds?
