About half their makes have been pure luck
Oh my that's a bailout call
Refs giving Kev the Jalen treatment this yr
Showtime!
Hangover a bit from Maui. Self said they were still a very tired team on Saturday. Eastern Illinois is weirdly slowing this game down with all the ball screens and working the clock. Probably more deliberate then weird
That Shelton is jacking a contested shot every time he touches it
It's crazy how much more natural Nick is shooting the ball off the dribble
Nice passing
Kev never had a foul he wouldn't mad at and I can appreciate that
Yeah sure
Felt like energy left with that lineup.
Camera work is awful
Omg nick
Yes normal
Hunter certainly can rebound like few bigs that have come here. A very pleasant surprise tbh
Very overmatched team tonight but an important tune up at home before a huge one Friday night.
Would really like to see Timberlake have a good game. Self said he's good to go. Some coach speak in his presser yesterday regarding him. He needs to see the ball go in.
Jank sick so we may not see him raining 3's tonight?
I'm not even sure what you can describe the upcoming Big-12 schedule as anymore. So far the Big-12 has won 83% of their games. The newcomers to the league are a combined 22-2 so far, 9 teams have 1 loss or less. Of course, it's early and some of these teams haven't played anyone but sisters for the blind but it certainly looks like this league could be even more difficult.
It will be interesting to revisit this before conference play starts.
Update Post Maui
Kenpom- #5 overall, Offense #26, Defense #3.
Torvik- #4 overall, Offense #17, Defense #5.
Kenpom rank in Self Era- Currently 10th best team. Rating in range of 2012 Title Runner-up & 2022 National Champs.
PER's took a dip. Hunter leads at 35.5, McCullar still strong at 23.4. Timberlake still last at 3.6 for refence. Guard play must improve a lot according to this analytics stat.
Applaud him for doing that
Well written stuff our Fearless leader!
Great to see you back with a few posts! Your insight on the team and game itself has always been some of my favorite stuff I've seen on here. We will need your wisdom as the season wears on. Glad your well
Happy turkey day everyone
Big time win
Kevin needs to start valuing the ball. 5th year guy just olaying the ball out there
There is no hope for officials anymore.
Give up more points self.
Wow ref your so blind
Missing layups by the dozen
3 yrs in and still can't make fts
Yikes
So sick of vescovi
Whatever
I hope so. He's got game
That jumper by Furphy was really good. Love the confidence
Wow hunter your 7'2 no excuse
Are you kidding me kevin
Omg kj
Omg what foul
What is that pass
Much better start then yesterday. Hopefully we can sustain it. So far we have taken Tennessee out of their pick and roll game but can't let Zeigler impact the game off the bench for him. He's fast and has no fear. Keep these guys off the paint
Come on kj draw a foul. Stop being cute
Was about to say the same
Nice job kj
At some point elmarko you have to actually make a shot bud
Nice d there
Not even close. The adjustment for him is taking a while or it's something else. May not be the fit we needed on either end, so far his output is concerning. You'd think some law of averages is coming with him as we play more. Seems to lack confidence currently. Hopefully he is like many that overcome
We'll see how they close the gap on things as the season goes. Yesterday was a bad game and we won't play like that a lot during the season but who knows. The KJ situation certainly has had an impact.
Today, Tennessee is not only a very physical but athletic team as well. This one could be ugly if they don't shake the game off and come focused and prepared. Last night's game felt like a game that will carry over into today though, 24 hours doesn't give you the time to refresh. It wasn't like KU played well against Chaminade either outside of two guys. The pieces around Hunter and Kev have to step up or we'll have these nights.
I'm not going to stress too much about yesterday's game because the loss didn't expose anything new about the team as far as weaknesses go in my eyes. All our warts when we play poorly are easy to see and it's why the margin for error with this squad is as low as it's been under Self. They got rattled by defensive pressure, made careless mistakes and couldn't make a simple play like catching the ball. Defensively the rebounding effort was unacceptable, and we couldn't stay in front of their guards at all. The double-digit turnovers and offensive rebounds in the first half told the whole story and it's not a Surprise the 2nd half didn't get any better.
Bigger picture, Marquette looked the better team and it was noticeable even before the first tv timeout. Marquette is a good, experienced team that is playing to its scheme and player development really well. Kudos to Shaka for what he's built there but I'm not a fan of Shaka so that's all he's getting from me.
One noticeable issue on defense I've seen is that Kentucky & Marquette has exposed KU's lack of team quickness & speed at the guard position. We have seen guards get to spots at will so far even against Dejuan, we just don't seem to have the athletes to match there. We have been slow on fighting through screens and staying in front of guys with the ball. It's good film to have for Self but I'm not sure this issue will go away either as the season goes along. The loss of Morris continues to show it's ugly head.
All I pray for today is no injuries. If Anyone watched Tennessee they you know what i'm talking.
12 turnovers. Really bad
