@JRyman I live in AR where Razorback fans fly their SEC flag like an earned stripe or star. I too like to laugh at their pretensions to greatness...that said, Nebraska has a more consistent history of success that I'm sure is disheartning to the Red.
@JRyman I just don't see people on here being put down for being uneducated or blind in a categorical manner. Sure there are a few times posters can get personal or criticized on a particular issue, but it seems you've taken it to a new level of being categorically offended.
I personally like the back and forth especially when it is supported by facts, figures and strong analytical breakdown of the relevant issues. You seem to dismiss that form of argumentation for the eye-test and the sanctity of the all-knowing insider.
Self is a hall of fame coach but that doesn't mean, like any successful leader that he doesn't have blind spots. That's the nature of success with an paradigm: solves many issues very successfully within the paradigm and doesn't see or discounts counter facts. The beauty of sports is we all get to see those approaches to the game played out in front of us over the course of a season or multiple seasons. Different coaches approaching the game differently with different levels of success. We also get to see those who adapt well: in game, between games, across the season and changing personnel.
That is the type of breakdown that I love this site for, the quality of the posters, many of whom bring a ton of knowledge about the game that I don't have. It's the difference between your run of the mill sports reporter who only relays what we all see with our own eyes and the little more detail they get from increased access to someone like Jesse Newell who brings stats and analysis of the game that raises all of our awareness of the game within the game.
Not sure who or what in particular got the burr under your saddle outside of strong opinions both ways around Jamari, but shake it off. Bring your argumentation...I for one enjoy the give and take w/o the personal animus with an understanding that it will happen from time to time around a particular topic. Shake it off then. Next play!
@Statmachine if Self uses your approach, then he's not rational. Hunter should start at beginning of season with Bragg off the bench as he progresses. Perhaps Diallo if eligible with those 4 (Perry included) splitting majority of minutes with Traylor/Lucas spot minutes.
Seldon is the starting 3 with combo of Svi/Greene backing up the combo of Seldon & Graham with Graham rotating Mason's minutes at point.
@Crimsonorblue22 nice touch on passes. A little savvy. Needs more reps with receivers it seems to bring more consistency.
Has KU found a QB?
@Statmachine I hope not. Love the kid and the story, but as HEM points out, 2 pt jump shooting is a great skill to have in Arsenal, but is worst shot on the floor. Hunter brings that skill too and he provides extra touches consistently from getting rebounds and tipping ball in routine play 50/50 balls.
@Statmachine is Traylor going to be able to rebound. I'd rather see Hunter in there.
Sitting here at the Bentonville HS Football game...Where's Monk going to go?
@ParisHawk I was headed out the door early this morning, but I think you captured my concerns. He pre-commits to a number for rotation and then hesitates to make a change based on his early player determinations. It's fine for Self to say it now, but don't think I've seen him ever commit to a change.
New players come in, show some rust and get the quick hook instead of opportunity to play through and get in a rhythm. Mickelson, in my mind, is case in point. He showed glimpses of what he did this summer last year, but never got any extended time to get in rhythm with the A-team. He didn't just get that much better between March and July.
I hate that he precludes a different rotation and style of play with extensive depth on the team. Realize it could be motivational technique at this point, but I don't think so.
This predetermined approach hurts us. I think it can be agreed that, for example, he's played Seldon too much in last couple of years based upon on the court performance. One might argue that he didn't have the depth, but I don't buy it.
@konkeyDong very nice way to bring some sunshine into a rough go. Thanks!
What no one has addressed is what the article pointed out was Cliff's superior stats to our other bigs on a per minute basis. Believe this was a constant point of discussion here during the season, with if I recall HE,M leading the charge, especially in regards to JamTray PT vs Cliff.
Why did Self not coach him through his mistakes, choosing as the article charges, to 'sit him after one blown close out'?
This is not to dismiss the shortcomings we all saw like Cliff not knowing where to be. To me this is the Self paradox - why some players play through repeated bone-headedness and others get the quick hook? See Seldon's Soph season.
Good night and RCJH...lets win another.
@Lulufulu We defended well but they also missed some open shots...not sure if it's the cumulative effect of defense or conditioning advantage.
@Lulufulu Thanks everyone for the correction but right now his made FT's are seldom.
@Bwag NO, 1/6 from FT
Will we see Seldon hit some FT's?
That was not a pretty move by Hunter there in the lane
16 point game
Refs have found the travel call.
Ellis undersold that last play on our end but flushes a dunk with authority to cleanse his soul
Big 3 by Seldon there! Measured it and let it fly.
Why couldn't Ellis hang on to that.?
Back up by 10. Great run to open the 4th. Good defense and hitting some shots.
Only 8 points scored in 3rd Qtr. I think Mason has half that already in the first minute of 4th.
Lucas is going to go postal here at some point and throw someone to the floor...
Fouls called we have 2 more at 14-12, actual fouls not called...who knows..
@Lulufulu Not when you throw the ball away...but now foul calls???
7 Turn Overs in 3rd
6 to
5 TO's in 3rd Qtr so far. 3 in each of the 1st 2 Qtrs.
Mason picked the pocket and almost flubbed the dunk, no, I'll lay it in...
Missed dunk, second chance after strong rebound and another TO...maybe 5 in 4 minutes of play...
How was that not a foul, over the back, and push in the back
2 TO's to start the 2nd half and now it's down to 2 point game.
Have 5 players with 3 rebounds each, no one with more. Bragg managed 3 in 6 minutes, but at least one of those he immediately threw to the other team and maybe another pulled away for 2 turn overs.
@Lulufulu My browser just shows a number over a bell in upper right.
Shooting 52% from 2 and 44% from 3 for overall 50% from the field.
Seldon filling up the stat sheet with something in every column except a Blocked Shot.
DAMBRAUSKAS Paul.. leads all scorers with 12
@Lulufulu Yep. 37-30
Mason &Ellis leading scoring with 9 each..several with 6. No one in double figures yet.
Bragg having a tough game...
And 1
@Crimsonorblue22 I understand that, but his pt has been so sparse, hard to get in a rythym and have confidence.
Time for Bragg to sit for a minute. He got the other rebound taken away and kinda hung his head, gave up.
Bragg's gotta be stronger there with that rebound
@bskeet One of the raps on Hunter down here in AR was that he wanted to be an outside shooter. I think he's got that shot.
@wissoxfan83 28-18
