Did Self get in their ear at the break?
Hey a call. Guess they were forced to
@KUSTEVE We've got 2 HD tv's, upstairs/downstairs. I'm downstairs and rest of family upstairs and about 3 seconds faster than me.
@JayHawkFanToo Koch's are Libertarian market guys...not buy influence with Gov't /Authorities guys.
@Crimsonorblue22 Time to get T'd up...7-1 and some of them have been ridiculous.
@Eric Or we have no one to play because we've all fouled out.
6-1
Refs NOT our friends
Pitiful Seldon
@KUSTEVE I hope so.
Jesse picked againt the Hawks.
Foul disparity is ridiculous out of the gate.
Too much pressing by individuals
Would like to see Mason pass that to the big for easy points.
Mason 17 points to lead all scorers; tied for team lead with4 assists and 9 (yes, 9) rebounds.
Back to work!
Like the substitutions to close out the game. Manage the tournament. Build confidence in the whole team.
@Bwag Was a little weak on the loose ball but a block there. Like it.
@Crimsonorblue22 Like to see Hunter come in and disrupt the flow (in a positive way).
Yeah, maybe put more of the bench in slowly, rest and have them bring tons of energy to finish out.
Very balanced scoring. Everyone but Mason 6-9 points w/ Mason out in double figures with 16. Maybe that will help everyone play a little looser going forward.
@brooksmd Me too. Hope that helps us balance out our offense. Cause us not to labor so hard.
9/13 almost 70% from 3 today (.692). Love it!
Has Greene now finally broken out?
@dylans Always pick against the Big 12 (except for KU of course) and then if they bust your bracket, you'll be "happy?" that someone finally helped carry the banner!
Another year for the big 12...they nearly always disappoint. Now someone has to go out and get the Final 4 or win the whole damn thing. Not feeling good about it though.
Every year I hope for a great showing from the Big 12. Usually I'm very disappointed.
Signed,
Charlie Brown
@JayHawkFanToo @HighEliteMajor HEM didn't attribute success or non-success to anything in particular. It is what it is. Find another way if you're not successful was his point.
Whether is nearly 7' front line or Richard Scott at 6'6 or 7" putting his butt on bigger players and scoring anyway...it's success or not.
@joeloveshawks We're not Northern Iowa or Bucknell or any of those smaller directional schools.
Can Cliff go to court and get declared indendent from his family? Would NCAA be forced then to remove that from the equation? Of course, won't happen before the tournament is over.
@HighEliteMajor Don't disagree in principle but not sure where Svi's head is exactly at the moment. My only point about BG is that I don't ever remember him driving like he has since Fools Gold comment. Happenstance or coached-value strategy?
BG is still a defensive liability too often. Made progress for a while but haven't noticed him sustaining it.
Completely like your analysis and I think, like you, that leadership matters. Get the good with the bad.
I'm a big Thomas Kuhn fan and his explanations of how paradigms both make us successful in problem solving and also hinder us from even seeing reality differntly or the accumulating weight of counter evidence to our paradigm. We heard Self from his own mouth say this is best 3 point shooting team, but his paradigm for successful basketball caused him to not accept that reality and problem solve appropriately for it. He forced the team into an alternative approach resembling a poor dribble drive offense that relies on high FT% attempts and makes. When combined with stingy and effective defense, we broke the odds and won...when we had a breakdown of any sort in any part of the game, we didn't.
I like that your point out the early record/late record...that's the proof of the effectiveness in the change in offensive strategy. He was as effusive in his praise of "bad ball" as he was dismissive of the Outside-In game that had been showing success but was counter to his basketball paradigm for success.
Most paradigms aren't changed until they suffer total collapse under the preponderance of counter-evidence weight. Here's to hoping for an intervention for a great coach. Perhaps an Asst Coach change or someone that he respects can speak truth to him.
@DoubleDD Or adjust to the new environment.
@sfbahawk Even BG's game has changed since the FG comment. He's driving to the basket more than he ever did.
@drgnslayr I believe ISU led our league in 2pt FG%. Outside-In same effect as Inside-Out potentially. As has been mentioned, need to play to the current players/team's strengths.
Inside game is probably a more consistent force and partly responsbile for Self's better success (total picture) than his currrent coaching peers as far as consistency, and probably reason for the Conference win streak since it wins road games, but not sure that it has proven itself on the big stage getting to the winner's circle in the final game.
@ajvan Agree 100%. We shot 90+% FT's on high volume and lost. We beat the percentages in a couple of our ugly wins down the stretch counting on 90% FT% and ugly drives to collect fouls.
@ajvan That said though...some of our shots driving and or mid-range jumpers would certainly have been as good of shots passed out or taken from 3 pt range.
@ajvan 5/12 for over 40% versus 2/16 for ISU for 12.5%. 3 point shooting wasn't our overall problem.
And we shot over 90% from FT with higher than expected attempts based on ISU foul history. Percentages caught up with us. Can't play piss poor offense and expect to win consistently.
@Bwag Or does Graham take on more PG duties next year...not there yet, but makes me wonder how that plays out.
@Crimsonorblue22 didn't consider that.
@brooksmd we really need for Mason to improve his PG skills. He doesn't make the pass when and where it needs to be consistently and with accuracy. Off center a little and the receiver needs to adjust and loses any advantage he could have had as the defense adjusts. He doesn't hit trailers on breaks consistently and then too often still drives to shoot versus drive to pass.
pulling for Notre Dame now...not due to the passion of the year's immediately following the last coaching change, just NC has home "court" advantage and is too close to us in all time wins.
So why do the NC teams seem to always have home area advantage in the post season tournaments?
@cragarhawk Agree.
@DCHawker Jesse's insight in pre-game breakdown is that they lead the league in 2pt shot %. Isuppose that's how an Outside-In game can accomplish the same as Inside-Out. It's why you should play to your team's personnel strengths...
Bill Self needs to study Bruce Lee...don't let the forms constrain you.
@cragarhawk Well we did start with a 17 point lead
So what is the implication for the next games/tournament? Does ISU perform better in NCAA to help carry Big 12 weight? Does this make us hungrier or introduce even more doubt into our minds as we go forward.?
He likes the quick 3...brilliant...there are 4.1 seconds left.
I'm really torn on Mason. His PG skills just not there yet. Not sur ehow I'd feel if he'd hit taht layup?
