Yea in so many ways I would agree in what you're laying down ;)

That UK was most impressive. Yet I don't think it was the UK overwhelming talent that one that game. It was indeed the Unibrow that just took over. It got so bad that KU guards were passing up easy layups for fear of being rejected. Not a fond memory by any means.

Yet I would debate the taking the foot off the pedal a little bit. Yes I know it does happen, hell we've seen KU do it. Yet I would make the argument that UK played lights out in the first half of that National Championship game with no hope of repeating the results in the second half. Think about it is quite a rare thing to see a team play lights for two halves. Meaning and my point there was no way UK could duplicate the numbers they put up in that first half.

I firmly believe if given another 5 minutes KU wins that game.. Alas that is not how it works. Yet I stand by my guns. UK in all their greatness got rocked in that second half and were grasping for anything to hang onto the lead they damn near lost.

Yet what do I know? ;)

@JayHawkFanToo

If you can't see the big change in how Coach is game planning this year then I don't know what to tell you? Last year had so much promise as the team and fans got a taste of what things could be. Sadly Coach went back to his tried and true and the season ended in a disaster. No a conference championship though nice didn't not save the season. As we all know KU and coach win it every year.

The fact is coach is embracing a new style of playing the game. Take a minute and give him some props. This team last year was barely a top 20 team. This year they are quickly becoming the team to beat. Even media types are saying the MSU lose was indeed a fluke. This isn't happening because Coach is playing his tried and true High/low scheme. No he is embracing the trey and the midrange jumper fully knowing at some point the ball will go inside.

Give Coach some props. It's not easy to change what you've always done.

@jaybate-1.0

Yet UK's OAD era greatness is that 2012 team. Yet put another 5 mins on the clock and UK's best OAD team loses.

Disagree?

No what Coach is doing this year is far from what he's ever done. Coach has never allowed free rein from the 3 line. I've seen this year were there are no bigs in the paint. Never happened before.

No sir Coach is reinventing himself, and no he's not playing bad ball. Not even close.

KU wins Because? • Jan 04, 2016 07:39 AM

@jaybate-1.0

There you go? Dissing the midrange jumper. My friend the game and Coach are changing. I'm so disappointed in you. Your knowledge of how the game has changed over the years and decades is unmatched. Yet you can't see the change happening right in front of you?

KU can hit the trey and the midrange. The days of forcing the ball inside at all cost is an ancient relic.

The game is changing my friend take notice.

@jaybate-1.0

You forget one key ingredient? The era that you play in. The Wizard coached in a time when kids played 4 years of basketball. Coach does not.

Whether we like it or not the College game is in the OAD era. Until the NBA players union decides to change the rules of the game.

Meaning as we have already seen the UK's and Dukes and other schools with stacks are starting over every year. Maybe this is why Coach is taking a different approach? Think about it?

If KU wins it all this year they will indeed be setup for another great run for next year. As Coach isn't just recruiting for this year but next..

The key is Coach is changing how he coaches. He is indeed stepping outside the box.

Something to think about.

I don't want to be that guy?

Yet I guess I must. In some ways I think Coach is the very reason we don't get the stacks that Duke and UK get. Coach K and Duke are kind of new to the stacks if you ask me. Up until last year and this year I really didn't see the uptick about Duke. Good recruiting classes but not the stacks that K is getting now. Kind of makes me wonder if Coach K has sold his soul to the Devil? We already know Cal has. Excuse me if I don't call him or reference him as a coach. Just don't feel he is one.

Coach seems to be at ease with his recruiting classes. Never upset about losing this kid or that kid. A gentleman's coach if you will. Is it a master plan? I don't know but for some reason I think Coach scares off just as much talent as he gets to commit. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it's a bad thing. Especially with this season as he his reinventing the concept of coaching in the college game. And he is.

Something tells me Coach is about to embark on a national dominance that hasn't been seen since the Wizard. Don't ask my why, because I don't know. It's a gut feeling I have. That MSU loss really woke up Coach. I guess sometimes in life even coaches a key loss can break lose the stagnate of ones career and unleash a whole new approach to ones craft. It seems these days Coach is in a whole another realm of coaching that all but a rare few ever really get to taste.

KU wins Because? • Jan 04, 2016 05:34 AM

Sure KU pushes the pace and are the best in transition basketball. Sure KU can launch the 3 ball with the best of them. Notice how they don't just chuck 3's yet take legit trey shots? Sure KU can handle and drive the ball. Having two point guards on the floor at one time is just sic. Sure KU might just have the best player in one game. Selden has ice in his veins and means business. Yet what make KU really go?

The Inglorious Bastards. We might as well throw the Designer in that group too. No not one of them is the best big on the court. No not one of them is the fastest on the court. No not one of them is the strongest on the court. No not one of them is the tallest on the court. Yet collectively combined they create an inside game that is a monster that no team can game plan for.

Greatly the Inglorious Bastards will only get better. As the saying goes you're only as good as your weakest link. Well the weakest links of the Inglorious Bastards are Bragg and Diallo, yet their potential far exceeds any in the group. Trust me they will get better, and better, and better, and better.

With so many teams trying to play inside KU has like 4 aces, or more like a Royal straight Flush. KU has bigs that can run, KU has bigs that can bang, KU has bigs that can block shots, KU has bigs that can shoot. Most of all KU has bigs with fouls to give.

Yep Coach ride the Inglorious Bastards. Ride them hard. In fact coach don't be afraid to play Svi, Greene and Vick. "Yes I said Vick" a little more. Play this right coach and you'll have not only the best team come tournament time but the must healthy and rested team. Not to mention a bench with not only talent but that is also battle tested.

Play to your strength Coach. Play to your deep bench Coach, and the tournament will be a cake walk.

Rock Chalk boys and girls.

If you were KU MBB coach... • Dec 31, 2015 06:29 PM

@pa_grape

Welcome aboard. Glad to have ya.

I couldn't be the Head Coach at KU. I would get too emotional and ruin the greatest college basketball program ever. It would be like me walking around an art gallery only suddenly to find my head or arm sticking through a Mona Lisa type painting.

No it's better that I stand at a distance and just lob my arm chair points of view as if I know what I'm talking about. It's safer that way.

:house: :arrow_left: :bowtie:

@drgnslayr

I would think for the most part you're spot on. Now I'm not going to start bashing on players. I just believe KU is better when coach plays the C5. I just do. I know it goes against all logic, and any real basketball fan well tell you can't run that many bigs. Yet I say why not? Why not think outside the box?

See I think you misunderstand me? I'm not talking about sending Traylor and Lucas to the bench. Why would I? They may not be superstars but they trained like ones, they have practiced against ones, and they played against ones. Their seasoned leadership will be needed this year. No sir I'm talking about playing the Inglorious Bastards. KU has to many reasons not to. It keeps Diallo and Bragg in that growing mode, and rewards Lucas and Traylor for the loyalty to KU.

Play the Inglorious Bastards and come tournament time KU will be one of the scarcest teams ever going into the tournament. They well have BATTLED TESTED DEPTH. Meaning they'll be rested, and for once in so long they will be healthy.

PS Just for the record I disagree that KU can and will win the Big 12 conference with Lucas and Traylor carrying the bulk of paint minutes. Coach tried that at the end of last year. Remember ??? That when KU starting playing Bad Ball.

Anyway I digress my vote is for playing them all.

Just pleading my case for the Inglorious Bastards

Coach and fans read:

Irvine coach Russell Turner said most nights his team, which features Ndiaye as well as 7-foot-2 Ioannis Dimakopoulos and 6-10 Mike Best, has a clear size advantage against its opponents. And while that proved to be true again against Kansas, the Jayhawks had a way to level the playing field.

“Kansas has more big guys that they can throw at our big guys and that wore us down,” Turner said. “Good strategy for a team that has the kind of depth that Kansas does. Not many have that.”

Some times paying attention to what an opposing coach's has to say is worth it's weight in gold.

Coach don't change a damn thing and play the Inglorious Bastards.

@JayHawkFanToo

Yea but I'm kind of worry of these conference networks. Lets not forget the ink was dry on the Big 12 media deal before Big 10 gets it's new deal, and the SEC creating the SEC network. I don't know but Yes I like the Big 12 at ten but I'm not against adding worthy teams.

I have to agree with you. @Texas-Hawk-10 is kind of coming off as?? Well you know.

You know @Texas-Hawk-10 instead of acting like @wrwlumpy is just making this stuff up and some how your calling him on it. Why not try using a little more kindness. After all @wrwlumpy takes the time to do this for all of us on @kubuckets, and he's about the most easiest poster on here to get along with.

I guess what I'm saying is take a chill pill. @wrwlumpy does his because he wants too. Besides it's not like we are building a nuclear bomb here.

@JayHawkFanToo

Sadly the TV money doesn't think so.

It would seem and uneasiness is settling over KU nation with Coach's recent quotes about shortening the C5. Flashbacks of last years failed campaign are making fans like me cringe. Some are saying coach is just playing games, yet what if he isn't?. What if he does really try to run with Lucas, Traylor, and Hunter? Thereby leaving Bragg and Diallo to ride the pine. That my friends is FOOLS GOLD.

Playing the best players is no doubt a wise thing to do on Coach's part. After all he gets paid to win, and win he does. Yet long term it would be foolish for Coach to do what he intends to do. Kill the Inglorious Bastards. Lucas and Traylor are fine players. They have paid their dues. They have toiled behind better players for the bulk of their KU careers. They have earned the right to play. However they are not show stoppers, the cats meow or the type of players that can put a team on their back and carry them to victory. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Bragg and Diallo are by far the most talented big in on this team. Let me rephrase that they are the most untapped talent on this team. After all the Designer is a pretty talented fellow. However sadly and truthfully they are not quite ready to command the paint as past bigs of KU lore. Yet in the same breath they are the key to any real National Champion aspirations.

KU and coach have a big dilemma on their hands. As KU has both talented and the best players. Coach is about to make a change that could very well make or break KU's season. Run with Hunter, Traylor, and Lucas and yea KU will win some games. Yet leaving Bragg and Diallo on the bench will cost them some serious game time and may up costing KU big time in the long term. YES I'M EVEN TALKING TO YOU KU FANS THAT ARE JUST HAPPY WITH THE CONFERENCE WINNING STREAK. Ask yourself this question? Do you think KU can win the Big 12 Conference championship with Traylor and Lucas manning the paint? Think about how tough the Big 12 is this year before you respond.

My personal beliefs are as followed. To often in our world, or societies patterns are developed. Over time these patterns become some imperial law of the land. As even more time passes people or persons don't even question why it is, the way is. If by chance someone steps outside that tried and true belief, then we just dismiss it as a nice story or anomaly. We start up the so called common sense, and law averages arguments.

Why not shoot the three? Why not shoot the midrange jumper? Why not play multiple players. Coach is on the verge of being the next Wizard. He's at a fork in the road. Will he go right and play it safe? Play the tried and true way of playing the game? or will he go left and step outside the box and go against the folk lore?

Actually playing to his team strength.

No coach play the Inglorious Bastards. And history wont have your name written in it, but you sir will write the history.

Interesting view • Dec 31, 2015 12:56 AM

@JayHawkFanToo

Also think about this. Only in the Big 12 do they play home/away.

I'm calling it. • Dec 24, 2015 05:52 PM

OU is a fine team that can shoot. Yet that's all they can do. Is shoot.

KU is redefining how an Offense should be played. There is no one way KU plays or runs it's offense. They are becoming a hybrid on many facets of the offense side of the ball. Able to change on a dime in the flow of the game with out missing a beat. I really marvel at what Coach and KU are doing.

KU is always looking to attack. Unlike some teams that come down looking to run their offense to feed the ball to their point monster in specific spots. The Jayhawks are like sharks, always looking to attack. Even on fast breaks they are looking for the open shot. This KU team can be so fluid on offense that Doctor Naismith would just shake is head and clap his hands, as KU can play the old concept Naismith had when he created the game. SPACING AND PASSING. We have seen this KU team come down on offense and then pass the ball and score without the ball ever touching the ground.

I'm even more impressed with Coach. For to change or at the very least adjust his concepts to fit his current team is no easy task. Yet he has and is now getting quite creative with the offense. I few times last game Coach and no man in the post. Creating confusing for the opposing team and opening the door to what this KU team can do. It's almost scary how good this team can be come March. With the addition of Diallo and Bragg getting more experience and more minutes as the season progresses. What do you want me to say? I Called it.

PS. KU will curb stomp OU.

Sorry sir this topic is for that believe. I don't want to hear how KU isn't the best team this year. Yes I stepped on that taboo line, and I don't regret it.

This KU team has everything to win 3 championships.

If you can't see that or can't get on board. Then this topic isn't for you.

I'm calling it. • Dec 24, 2015 05:23 AM

If Coach continues to let the Jayhawks play. Shooting the three, pushing the pace and going to the bench early and often. KU wins the Big 12 conference championship, the Big 12 conference tournament, and the National Championship.

I know I'm stepping on that taboo line. It's bad luck. Yet I don't care. No more wishing and praying for me. This KU team has everything a Jayhawk fan could want. Depth, the ability to shot the three, and the ability to shoot the mid range jumper, not one but two point guards, a designer in the paint, and the Inglourious Bastereds

Yes I'm drinking the Kool-Aid. Hell I'm pounding the stuff. ")

Can we rename the C5? • Dec 24, 2015 04:08 AM

@HighEliteMajor

Also think about it like this. If Coach plays his bench Bragg and Diallo don't get into foul trouble. Meaning as they progress and get better. If a tournament game comes down to the wire. Bragg and Diallo can be on the floor.

Maybe I'm wrong, just my two cents.

Can we rename the C5? • Dec 24, 2015 04:04 AM

@HighEliteMajor

We are seeing crazy things these days? Who would of thought that Coach would say we need to take more threes or jump shots? In years past you be spot on. Yet this is that magical season. All the tried and true thoughts are going to the way side.

I'm for playing the top talent. Damn near got run off KUbuckets for my stance on that. Yet I'm also a believer in playing to your strengths.

If your strength is a deeeeeeep bench then why not use it? In fact I'll probably get banned from KUBuckets for this statement. Yet I believe what I believe. There is no reason Graham and Mason should be playing the minutes they are..

Maybe I'm wrong but I believe that KU is the best when they tap into that deep bench. Traylor played a great game. Not sure we win with out him?

A Well Oiled Machine • Dec 24, 2015 01:14 AM

In this day in age when very few teams want to play a true road game. KU did. Sure the Aztecs are rebuilding, but their arena was rocking and the their players were feeling it. Yet KU said bam no thank you man. Layman's term they slammed the door shut.

That my friends is what champions do.

Can we rename the C5? • Dec 24, 2015 01:08 AM

@HighEliteMajor

Play the best player.

What if the best player is having a bad night? Why not go to the bench? Why not use the depth KU has? Why not keep cycling our bigs in so they are always game ready. Why not send a message to future recruits KU is about winning conference, conference tournament, and national championships? Why not send a message to future recruits that KU is a team?

Besides if KU is going to push the pace we need bodies and not just bodies but bodies that can do something. I always hate and never understood why coaches with a deep team always want shorten the lineup. Then when a game goes the wrong way and bodies are needed? Then coach goes to the bench expecting no drop off in performance even though the kids haven't played all year.

For the rest of KUBuckets

I'm kind of liking the "Inglourious Bastereds" too.

Maybe we should take a vote?

I haven't had this much fun since 2008 • Dec 23, 2015 06:28 AM

Yet something happened and coach is buying into his team strengths again. KU and coach are going to be hard to beat.

Ok @JayHawkFanToo and @BeddieKU23 explain World Wide Wes?

Something is going on ↗

Ask yourself how does LSU all of sudden get one of the best recruiting classes?

By the way @JayHawkFanToo I wouldn't even begin to argue that Coach is way better than Cal yet for some reason he gets more talent that any other college.

If I'm wrong please explain to me why a stud projected OAD kid would go to UK and not start and see limited minutes?

Chaundee Brown/ Andrew Jones • Dec 18, 2015 08:53 AM

@BeddieKU23

I guess I don't know what you mean or what you want me to explain? Wiggins was far from a KU lock. Yet more like a surprise. There is not a KU fan on KU buckets that knew Wiggins was coming to KU. I'll take a step further and say coach had no idea Wiggins would chose KU.

Prove me wrong.

Chaundee Brown/ Andrew Jones • Dec 17, 2015 04:12 PM

Hey @BeddieKU23 and @JayHawkFanToo

If you guys want to believe that shoe companies don't play a part in where these kids go. Then I guess there is nothing more I can say.

You're mind is made up.

Chaundee Brown/ Andrew Jones • Dec 17, 2015 03:12 AM

@JayHawkFanToo

I don't think it's that simple. Ask yourself why would a top recruit go to a school like UK where you'll be playing behind somebody else? versus playing for another school and you start and play? I get it in football as these kids have to stay for 3 years, but in basketball it's just one year. It makes no sense.

I'm a firm believer somebody led Wiggins to KU.

How do we explain that LSU out of nowhere has a top basketball recruiting class?

Like I said there is more to the story.
